Regrann from @boricua_spirit - We as a people must unite so change can happen for our people here and abroad..United we must stand or else we all fall... Individually, we are one drop, together, we are an ocean!!!! As we speak..we are seen as wounded animals..are we mi gente? Go follow @nuestra_patriapr if you dare..he speaks truth with no filter.. @nuestra_patriapr - Great victory of the young lords! The city ignored the community so the community fought back. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ But for weeks, sanitation service in East Harlem continued to be poor. Frustrated, the Young Lords took the bags of garbage and built five-foot-tall barricades across Third Avenue, halting traffic. Then the group’s members set the garbage on fire, which brought out police and firefighters (though not sanitation workers). As a result, the garbage service improved, though it was never what it was in wealthier neighborhoods. #nationalistparty #nationalist #jayuyauprising #quevivapuertoricolibre #puertoricanindependence #puertoricanactivist #boricua #nuyorican #boriken #indigenous #puertoricanpride #boricuadiaspora #PuertoRicanDiaspora #diaspora #pedroalbizucampos #lares #oscarlopezrivera #elgritodelares #independence #waragainstallPuertoRicans #puertoricanflag #puertorico #puertorican #IntentonadeYauco #yauco #money #currency #GarbageOffensive #eastharlem #harlem #PrFlagsUp #puertoricanflagsup @puertoricanflagsup https://www.instagram.com/p/BoFiIxOh6_V/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1q50piaaef6zm

I can't get in touch with any of my family members. Please send me updates if you know what's going on in Vega Baja, Dorado, Toa Alta, and Guayama. I believe all cell towers are down. There's no electricity. Some houses are basically under water. All I can do right now is pray. • I'm going to start a drive for money, toiletries, clothes, supplies, etc. Please hit me up if you want to collab on something or be involved. Also please send me any reputable organizations that help the people directly. The diaspora needs to come together and take care of our own. We cannot let the banks take the homes and turn the island into a privetized vacation/fracked island for the rich. It's going to be tough but I believe in the strength of the people. Siempre pa'lante. • Follow @nuestra_patriapr if you want to see some of what's going. ✊ • • • #PuertoRico #HurricaneMaria #HuracánMaria #MariaPR #PuertoRicanDiaspora #NYC #NJ #VegaBaja #Dorado #ToaAlta #Guayama

"We should not look at the matter as a source of competition and tension among our peoples, but as a chance to further the historical projects of liberation we have been committed to as Caribbean neighbors."

Café on Cass and Veteran's Day Healing: BeLive Monday 700PM - November 11th 2013
Café con Cass at Cambridge Community Television, Channel 9. Café con Cass brings dialogue alive on all issues related to healing, diversity, and the arts with a cup of coffee, occasional guests, and videos. Mondays @ 7 PM (https://www.cctvcambridge.org)
As I battle a cold and hope for less sniffles I wish the local community of Veteran's and their families a healing Veteran's Day. Historically, I explore memories of family veterans including my late Grandfather who fought in the Korean War and share wisdom from past veterans and Mami Julie who told me growing into womanhood, “If you know where you come from, you will know where you are going.”
According to Wikipedia and my own oral family history, Puerto Ricans have participated in many of the military conflicts in which the United States has been involved. For example, they participated in the American Revolution, when volunteers from Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Mexico fought the British in 1779 under the command of General Bernardo de Gálvez (1746–1786), and have continued to participate up to the present-day conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
To bring the episode to a contemporary setting and use the arts, I play a clip of “I want to be in America” from West Side Story.
The lyrics offer a power representation of the attitudes of Puerto Ricans who migrated, returns, long and create anew in America. Today’s emotional check-in was joyful when I reminisce on the second island I was born on, New York City.  Somedays I feel like there are not enough emotions on my emotional check-in sheet!
For local resources, I also talk about local homeless newspaper, Spare Change: www.sparechangenews.net
Within this episode I do of course talk about PTSD and trauma. Accessing support and making the recommendation of a landmark book, Trauma and Recovery by Judith Herman which as also brought a lot of healing to my life.
