Fuck it, Ben and their friend group/bandmates (Fangs of Pearl)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From left to right:
Benjamin "Ben/Benny/Ben-Ben" Cross (Bassist, Backing Vocals, Songwriter)
Emily "Em" Tamblyn (Drums)
Tae Watson (Guitarist, Songwriter)
Pamela "Patti" Michaels (Guitar, Keyboard, Other sound effects, Backing Vocals)
Lina Ramirez (Lead Singer, Songwriting, Guitar, Other Sound Effects)
Lina had been dreaming of starting a band long before high school. In 2005, she transferred high schools, where she met, Emily, Tae, and Patti. Ben became friends with all of them in May of 2006. In August of 2007, Patty and Lina began to date.
Fangs of Pearl as a band formed in the summer of 2006, and spent most of their early years playing in Emily's newly renovated garage. In the beginning, they didn't exactly record a whole lot of music, as it was too expensive. They mainly played covers of their favourite songs. During senior year, they didn't play together as much due to the stress of exams, and (unbeknownst to the Fangs) Ben's involvement in the Kira investigation. Fast forward to June of 2016, Fangs of Pearl releases their first album, the cover of which was photographed by Emily, and edited/stylized by Ben and Tae. They are now quite popular in Chicago's punk scene.
Their sound is reminiscent of bands like Hole, Meet Me @ The Altar, Paramore, Bikini Kill, and Lunachicks, with elements of gothic rock.
(I'm definitely going to draw them all soon, just wait)

Don’t shoot me but i honestly feel like those tshirts were a coincidence. We know that all the bts members have alot of similar clothes maybe because they shop from the same places or because of stylists plus they are in the same band so i have honestly never seen why those tshirts were such a big deal deal. Plus i have never wanted to acknowledge that as much because we also have an instance where Jk and JM wore the same custom rings on the same day to the same event on the same ring finger. (D’festa) Plus when Jk performed at Jimmy fallon, he had on a dior ring. So i feel like when we start giving too much meaning to stuff like similar clothes and jewelry, we get disappointed because imagine us waking up tomorrow and seeing other members with the exact same kappa sweetheart tshirt? Also, i really don’t believe taekook are out there trying to give us clues about their relationship.
I totally agree. Usually.
They have same stylists, definitely get gifted a lot of stuff, etc. Jewellery especially is likely to match because stylists bring trays of same brand jewellery for them to choose from.
Plus some of the analysis of "matching" rings is comically bad.
The D'festa rings were confirmed to be the same by the actual jewellery designer on Instagram which suggests gifting to me. According to the website, they're from one of the lines that isn't custom. They specify custom for other items where Hangul characters or names are involved. Again, easily could be gifted which also could explain ring fingers. Sizing unconfirmed, etc.
Ring finger on left hand is unremarkable to me for an official schedule and they've been styled together.
So yeah, I can think of many reasons they'd match.
Sweetheart tees feel a bit different. They were from ERL. JK wore ERL in his punk outfit for Vogue and Namjoon has worn one but it's not a brand that regularly appears like Maison Margiela, Fear of God or Acne Studios, for example.
But let's assume JK was styled that way for Seven. Very likely. It's still less likely Tae was styled for Bruno Mars, a private outing.
Combined with the idea JK was supposed to go, it just feels like the coincidence is a bit too coincidental to be coincidence.
If I wake up tomorrow and I find out Jimin was wearing the Sweetheart shirt on same day in a different country, I would survive. It's not the foundation of my Taekook house.
But it doesn't seem like coincidence to me.
Thanks anon 💜

the members losing their virginities?
Under the cut bae🫶
Aaron T., in a club’s bathroom stall, with a total slut, when he was 15, on drugs he took accidentally☠️☠️
Tae’s first time was actually when he was 17, the band was already a thing when he got a gf. You could expect me to say that it was with his gf, but no. They broke up on a party, he got sad, drank himself to the ground, so one of his now ex gf’s ex friends took him home with her bf. Yep, his first time was a threesome and he was totally topped thru the whole thing.
Jesse was 16, in his Rodrick Heffley lookalike phase when he got drunk and let a completely random punk girl take him home. Then after they finished, he immediately left😭
17 year old Robaire had a gf, had sex. Sadly it’s nothing special and he was even good at it so I can’t connect an embarrassing story to it like I want to☠️
Aaron Z. was 19, on a plane’s toilet with a girl he was looking at thru the whole fly☠️☠️ he got up, she went after him, he walked out of that bathroom as a new person.

(Tyrionyork) in your kuwtb / modern au who do you think listens to what music? Doesn't have to be artists (cause thats a lot of artists) just general genres etc
YAY love thinking of this stuff. ok i have a post from 2021 w some of my opinions i still broadly agree with:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
quick disclaimer. my main opinion forever is these motherfuckers would NOT listen to mother mother or tally hall or cavetown or jack stauber or AJR. sansa MIGHT. but not a single other character would. im sorry to break the news to you. there is a HUGE difference between 'song that reminds you of character' and 'song character would listen to' and im sorry but robb stark is NOT listening to the oh hellos no matter how much you think soldier poet king fits him. doing the starks + theon send asks if u want a specific character :^)
ROBB he likes kanye west do not even fucking try and claim otherwise. he likes UK drill and all kinds of rap and 90s r&b. he listens to the top 40 when working out. the gayest thing he listens to is beyonce. i also think he likes country music (sorry.)
THEON oh everything. lots of electronic and if he's in charge of the aux cord he puts on whatever it most annoying and bad for the vibe. i do think he's a little bit lana del rey especially post-ramsay. definitely a barb just to be annoying. would never be honest about his music taste. is a dj :)
JON teen jon listens to paramore mcr etc but older jon likes tame impala and king gizzard. def an arctic monkeys/snow patrol/strokes/kooks kinda guy. im on the fence about mitski on the more dubious side. beach boys pet sounds. WEEZER AND NIRVANA.... lots of grunge. he and robb listen to wu tang and NWA together. can play guitar and did wonderwall oasis for ygritte to impress her and she was like ach canae ye listen tae good music even?
SANSA swiftie all the way. i may not like the blonde devil's music but it is undeniable that sansa is a swiftie. i think she likes pop and folk. lots of female artists :) goes to pop concerts with margaery and gets vip backstage passes cos margaery is kind of a starfucker name dropper and uses it to impress sansa on dates. can play piano and maybe also flute or violin...
ARYA everything that gives you tinnitus. heavy metal industrial noise. bonds with jon over grunge. punk and grindcore. every kind of metal you can think of. and yes she is a juggalo. she likes insane clown posse (argue with the wall) her and gendry + lommy + hot pie are in a terrible band together. plays drums FOR SURE
BRAN beatles :) psychedelic rock.... i still see him as pretentious about music 😭 listens to pink floyd The Wall high with the reeds. makes music in garageband its actually pretty good.
RICKON he is also a juggalo

4⭐ Town Headcanons : Song for Each Member's Solo Career
Tumblr media
Now im sure im not the only one that considers 4Town ever disbanding to be a nightmare that should never come true, but, in the hypothetical that it did (WHICH IT WONT EVER) these are the songs I think each would write and perform:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
⭐Robaire : Leave The Door Open by Bruno Mars, Anderson.Paak & Silk Sonic
Robaire fully embodies the charm and velvetine swagger of this song to a degree where its almost annoying, but I can't deny he's perfect for this vibe. I can just see that stupid perfect smile of his as he sings it. UGH !!! no matter how many times i hear this song, i cant help but get carried up in its energy and that is exactly the effect Robaire has always had on 4Town fans and the new ones who will enjoy his more mature turn at music.
youtube
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
⭐ Jesse : Stick Season by Noah Kahan
Ok maybe I'm a little biased because Jesse is my man and I've been obsessed with this album lately but i really think Jesse would strip everything back and become a really homey, heartfelt to the point it breaks, tender and honest music. I just love the image of him in a flannel with a guitar just strummin away and sat on the hood of his old car, singing about whats on his mind and in his heart. gosh i love my sweet man (and go check out this artists whole album its soulcrushingly good)
youtube
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
⭐Taeyoung : Promise by Jimin
i know its very on the nose to say that Taeyoung would do kpop after 4Town disbands, but i have a theory about this. I think after 4Town ends, Taeyoung would "retire" as an artist, bidding his farewells to the limelight and settling into a normal life where he can focus on his passion for animal rescue, maybe even setting up his own sanctuary and going to school to learn more about caring for and studying animals. but then, after maybe a decade of nothing, Tae would drop one final song, maybe on the 10 year anniversary of 4Towns end and it would flood the world. and this song i think is perfect for how he would feel if he made a song alone.
youtube
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
⭐Aaron T : In The Heights
Now, maybe I'm jumping a bit but this kind of Lin Manuel Miranda style broadway, started with his take on Hamilton, where its got alot of hiphop influence just SCREAMS Aaron T to me. his energy, expressiveness and being known for being the fast-talking, bounce off the walls member i think lends to modern broadway so damn well, and for this song especially, he would be Usnavi obviously, and would have so much personality that he carries the whole show by himself.
youtube
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
⭐Aaron Z : Cracker Island by Gorillaz
okok hear me out on this one, similar yo Taeyoung, i think Z would take a break from performing after 4Town splits up just to have some downtime and fihure out life outside the band, but then, he'd come back not to sing but to PRODUCE songs. he'd be one of those artists who releases a song once every 4-5 years and it takes the world by storm so hard the hype lasts til he comes back. anf for me, this electric synth-punk is something i could see him making. very grungy and dirty electro/retrowave sound that would set the world on fire. he's got the same cool and funky swag that this song especially i think just glows with.

Dear Peppertaemint,
I sort of think of you as an expert when it comes to K-Pop, media literacy and topics that deal with queer themes, given your writings on Taemin's work for example. I hope my inquiry won't be considered a waste of time because I know you don't deal with silliness in your inbox, but I will try my luck.
I will admit that I keep up a bit with the BTS members, albeit scarcely. I happened to read on twitter (known as X now) that through his artistic expression, Taehyung is either indicating he is queer or perhaps a suporter (an ally just like Valentina) of the community. All that is supposedly apparent in his first solo music video, with references to queer cinema or the clothes he's wearing for a photoshoot. Of course, this is not the first time this has been speculated in online circles. I'll post a link at the end of this message so you could get an idea of what I'm trying to explain.
What I would wish for is a more unbiased opinion from someone with vast knowledge and a cultural background and who doesn't feel the need to prove anything about their bias. At least I think he's not your bias. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm looking forward to your response. As always 🩷
Sincerely
Lady A. Assante

Hello Lady A. Assante,
Despite there being a high probability that this ask is a put-on, I’m going to take it at face value and reply in earnest.
I looked at the link you sent, which was a tweet of a Russian video purporting to tie the films Velvet Goldmine (1998) and Jubilee (1978) to Taehyung’s recent MV and, seemingly, his identity. I can’t read the Russian blocks of text in the video, but I can see the split-screen shots comparing Tae to characters in Velvet Goldmine. I can also see that Taehyung appears to wear a shirt of the film Jubilee in a promotional photo.
Tumblr media
Now, I’m old enough to have been around when Velvet Goldmine came out; it’s a film about sexuality and aesthetics in the glam rock era, and it not-so-subtlety tells, at least in part, a take on the long time rumour of David Bowie and Mick Jagger’s liaison as lovers during glam rock days. In all honesty, I cannot see how this film in any way, shape, or form, has any relation to Taehyung’s “Love Me Again” MV beyond perhaps they both involve sequinned outfits.
“Love Me Again” is a slightly moody, barebones MV of Taehyung singing in a Spanish cave surrounded by retro items. His hair is a golden mess, while his clothes are cheap sequin getups with golden chains around his neck. Tae is moody in his MV, but he’s no glam rocker. He’s a crooner lost in time and confused. He ends the MV practically disgruntled. For me, the through line of the exotic setting, the props and the styling doesn’t quite come through. So, there wasn’t a lot for me to take away from Taehyung’s MV, but when all his MVs are released, I will watch them in order and share my thoughts. Again, I don’t see any meaningful relation between these two works. And certainly I don’t see anything overtly queer about Taehyung’s MV. If someone wants to come with concrete examples of “he said X” or “he did X” or “he wore X,” then I can consider such things.
And about his clothes: Derek Jarman was an important gay rights activist in the UK. But his activism was, more generally, in the 1980s onward, and focused on certain laws that effected education in the UK as well as raising awareness of the AIDS epidemic. These are very important works, especially to me living in Britain as a queer person. However, the film Jubilee is not about that work. It’s a punk film in response to the Queen’s Jubilee in 1977, and it presents a dystopian future of monarchical Britain and features some of the best punk bands of the time, including The Slits and Adam and the Ants. That shirt is about the punk movement - an important movement in Britain to be sure, but it isn’t centred on queerness.
My advice to Kpop fans looking for queerness in Kpop is to start with those who are doing concrete things in the genre: Holland and OnlyOneOf are a great place to start. Then you can look at Taemin, Key and SHINee as a whole, and reach out from there. SHINee’s “My Identity” from the album Hard (2023) was played at Seoul pride this year. I’d really recommend having a listen. And before a critical interloper writes in to say that everything queer must be cryptically coded because SK isn’t safe for LGBT+; I’m very aware of the rights people are lacking in SK. However, there are levels to meanings in art, and every artist has their own comfort zone when it comes to what they wish to share, and what they wish to be “unlock-able,” and what they wish to keep firmly for themselves. What I don’t think is helpful is conspiracy-level theories about art being queer-coded. That’s because art is already meant to interact with its audience; what a piece of art means to you is what is the most important. If you find something that speaks to your queer side in Taehyung’s work, than for you, that’s what his work is. That doesn’t mean his identity matches yours. There’s no need for that. That’s the beauty of art.
As a postscript, this shot here is exactly what reminds me of Key’s solo work: spooky retro style. That’s Key’s signature, which has been a personal extension of certain works in SHINee’s oeuvre (like “Married to the Music”). What remains unclear for me is what this union of elements signifies for Taehyung.

I was tagged by @dwead-piwate-meggers agesss ago to share voice claims and band vibes for my infamous MCs!!
Fair warning, I’m bad at this <3
Tae-yeon Starr
Band: SugarXSpice is a pop band, their music ranges from “middle school girls rocking tf out” to “wait, this is an innuendo, right?? Am I overthinking this??” I’d say it’s like veryyy fun, almost basic pop with a little bit of edge. I think Tove Lo, Dua Lipa, and Blackpink remind me of them.
Voice: Yeah, it’s just Hyolyn who’s her face claim lol <;3 Dally is a good vibe for her voice (I thought she might be a little more mature-sounding tho) and a very good fit for her dancing!
Rosalie “Rosé” Jackson
Band: Rosé + the Thorns is an R&B band, which makes mostly sexy and fun dance or mood-setting songs. I don’t really listen to r&b, but Jorja Smith, H.E.R., and Normani have similar vibes!
Voice: They sound like H.E.R. lol, just a little deeper, maybe with a little rasp? Idk!
Fatima Singer
Band: Human Parts is a softer alternative band, but they can almost hit “rock”ish if Rowan/Jazzy takes point in a song. Definitely made them with Of Monsters and Men and Florence and the Machine in mind haha! Also The Oh Hellos!
Voice: Maybe Dodie? Possibly Florence? I’m not too certain though!
Calliope Smith
Band: Mythology is a hip-hop band based on Greek myths! They make dance songs! I don’t listen to a ton of hip-hop (or at least I’m not really sure what counts as hip-hop 💀) but Diamonds with Normani and Megan Thee Stallion is a good feel, I think. They blend typical singing with rap from Calli!
Voice: Jorja Smith lol. Specifically in Be Honest, too!
Ari “Scythe” Franklin
Band: Bones in the Woods is a dark folk band with some… country imagery influences? Idk. Definitely Hozier vibes, and I think the song that best encompasses them is In a Week!!
Voice: Ari gives me AURORA vibes, honestly! Oh, also Ryn Weaver! (Fair warning, that video might make you cry)
Maximilian “Max” Best
Band: NEON/BLOOD is a punk rock band that focuses on sexy, angry music lmao. I know like two rock bands and neither fit the vibes lmaoooo. But a song vibe for Max himself is, uh…. A song <3 — OH actually Set it Off might be a vibe??
Voice: Okay so it’s this Set it Off song. Either of the singers work well enough, though Max is deeper. It’s the same fun, angry, kinda dramatic tone lol
This was very fun and I tag anyone who sees this and wants to do it!

勉強ログ ー 11/16
Pretty busy day for studying, knocked out one grammar book. Somehow every time I read a linguistics paper I walk away with more papers in my to-read pile though. The folder grows and grows.
Reading:
A Guide to Japanese Grammar (Tae Kim) page 282->300. Finished my re-read of this, and got a lot more out of it than when I read it earlier in the year. The fifth and sixth sections on more literary/formal writing forms were still pretty unfamiliar to me, but I haven't really been reading a lot in this style (...yet)
からかい上手の高木さん chapter 30, 31 Good Words: 占い 「うらない」 ー fortune がっかり ー to be disappointed, to feel exhausted 嫌らしい 「いやらしい」 ー lewd (form: やらしい) 誘う 「さそう」 ー to invite
Open Access Academic Lectures as Sources for Incidental Vocabulary Learning: Examining the Role of Input Mode, Frequency, Type of Vocabulary, and Elaboration (Thi Ngoc Yen Dang, Cailing Lu, Stuart Webb) - Interesting study comparing incidental L2 vocabulary learning with mixed-input modes on academic lecture videos. The most surprising thing they found here is that watching a lecture video with subtitles is somehow less effective than just watching a lecture video (possibly overloads the visual part of the split-attention model w/ 2 competing visual sources of info), which goes against a lot of common assumptions about both ways to learn language (watching videos with subs is generally seen as helpful), and also best practice for accommodating non-L1 speakers in an academic setting. They acknowledge their study is limited and suggest that it should lead to further research, but this is definitely worth looking further in to.
Listening:
SCHOOL GIRL BYE BYE (NUMBER GIRL) - in "Quit your Band!" Ian Martin describes Number Girl as one of the 3 most important bands in a wave of japanese punk in the "The Generation of 97" (22) that had a huge influence on a lot of later j-rock and japanese indie music. This is their first album, and you can tell they are trying to be pretty anti-90s-j-pop: Overblown high-tempo drums clipping microphones, off-key vocals almost completely buried in the mix of distorted guitars, sometimes almost approaching shoegaze levels of noise and repetition. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but a lot of the songs don't quite reach the levels of edge they were probably hoping for, and still end up leaning on some pop composition. You can definitely hear some hints of what will come on their next albums, though. Favorite tracks: Omoide in My Head, 大あたりの季節, Mini Grammer
History of Japan (Isaac Meyer) Episode 53

clare mommyyyyyy (lol sorry...but not sorry...) i would like some music to go along with boy blue. what music were they grinding at in the club on mc and tae's first date, and what music did you think of when they went to the glam rock gay punk show? thank you!!!!!!
"clare mommy" strikes again lmaoooooo.
boy blue club songs: i feel like the faster song they dance to that tae does his own, slower grind to is a fun remix of a Lizzo song. of course, because of his road trip vlog, all i can thing of is About Damn Time! when the beat slows down, i imagine something like Special Affair by The Internet.
as for the glam rock gay punk show (lolol) of course someone did a fun cover of Ballroom Blitz by Sweet, but overall i picture songs from the more modern bands that carry the glam vibe, like The Velveteers (a heavier live version of Charmer and the Snake would be sick!) also, something that sounds like this cover of Ramone's Pet Semetary by Starcrawler would be played for sure.
ask me about songs i would pair with certain fics/scenes!
