honestly the deltora quest books are so good and hold up so well like my brother literally borrowed shit from it for his dnd group recently it’s SUCH a perfect series

oh my god i 100% agree with you anon, i just finished a complete reread of the three parts of the series and they truly SLAP. like yes the target audience is obviously kids so the writing is not as "sophisticated" as adult/high fantasy but like. the worldbuilding in it ALONE is phenomenal. her characters are all so brilliant, like every single one has such depth, strengths and weaknesses, and she isn't afraid to show how flawed the heroes can be?? and like, for a kid's book series, some of the themes and stuff that happens is SO dark... like in the third series especially, every book is SO intense but the stuff especially with verity and the bone point lighthouse and laughing jack is so!!!! jesus christ. talk about traumatising kids but also! educating them because the themes are so important! and not just rah rah clumsy allegory for racism that i'm writing as a secret racist and not so secret transphobe cough jkr cough. and idk like despite all the death and darkness and literal tragedy of the series it remains so freaking uplifiting?? and you're absolutely right it is SUCH a perfect series. deltora quest you will always be the moment <3
