A beautiful Hawaiian hibiscus turns on the charm. There are over 200 species of hibiscus worldwide and seven of them are native to Hawaii. I can imagine a hula dancer in a grass skirt with this gorgeous flower, tucked into her hair.

Two highlights of the Wairarapa, the stunning scenery of Castlepoint, and native animals and bush at Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre.
Castlepoint was named in 1770 by Captain Cook. It’s home to a small coastal community and is an understandably popular holiday spot, with a stunning beach and views of the famous Castlepoint Lighthouse, built in 1913.

A beautiful spring morning at Queen Elizabeth Park with this lovely family!
It had been awhile since I had seen Jen and her family for a photography session so imagine my surprise when she emailed to say that they had a new addition to their family! You’d never guess that for…
Shaughnessy is one of Vancouver's oldest neighbourhoods. Some of Vancouver's largest homes and most expensive real estate is situated in this historic neighbourhood. Shaughnessy is located near Queen Elizabeth Park, which is home to an indoor conservatory with an aviary.
Interestingly, some of the Shaughnessy neighbourhood is even zoned differently from other parts of Vancouver. These lots are designated as "FSHCA" zoning. This zoning refers to First Shaughnessy Heritage Conservation Area.
The princess flower is native to southern Brazil and is usually considered a subtropical plant. In addition to its lovely royal purple flowers, it is also valued for its attractive pink flower buds. In warmer climates it can become invasive and it’s considered a ‘noxious weed’ in Hawaii. I don’t see them often in Vancouver so maybe it’s appropriate, given its royal title, that I took these photos in Queen Elizabeth Park.
A lightly populated rural region, the Wairarapa is a popular escape for Wellingtonians, being only an hour’s drive away on the other side of the Remutaka Range. This post covers four of the main towns in the region, starting with Masterton, by far the largest town in the Wairarapa, home to ~29,000 people.
Henley Lake Park is an attractive place to start, particularly a still day when there are…
