Aloha everyone! I just posted a blog about the psychological benefits of bodywork when you're struggling with gender dysphoria, dissociation, and trauma history. It's a bit of my own experience, with some practical, solution-focused advice on how to deal with massage anxiety and self-care avoidance. Just wanted to share :) “Both clients looking for a bodyworker, and therapists looking to recommend them, would do well to ask around. There are probably a few queer-friendly bodyworkers who not only maintain a professional demeanor, but also recognize the chronic pain caused by binders, estrogen-induced cramps, testosterone-induced pelvic pain, and just the stored up tension resulting from minority stress. Personally, my trauma history impeded my ability to enjoy spas given the risk of cis-het stranger danger. My workaround was to befriend bodyworkers. I had the pleasure of working with @rbearkarito yesterday afternoon. Here I’m working on freeing up some tension around the lungs. The towel is covering the other side that already received the work and is now resting and absorbing some lavender mixed with an anti inflammatory CBD oil for the full release and sedation. He was so calmed by the treatment that he fell asleep on the table, I was very flattered.
