Mael's leaves are based on the tillandsia air plant, which is a type of epiphyte (occasionally aerophyte) which grows in moderate to hot climates - from what I read, the metallic silver sheen isn't a product of a pigment, but a form of structural mechanism to bend and reflect light. That can be attributed to a waxy outer layer and specialized trichomes, miniscule hair-like appendages that are more efficient at water intake and subsequently keeping the water, which makes Mael further resistant to heat and drought. His skin and bark also possess a similar silvery shine under most light, which is a pretty fun explanation to why ingame, he appears green-ish in darkness, but gray under light!

I'd also imagine he'd turn greener when soaked, like the real plant, and then silvery white when exposed to the sun for too long and dried out.

And then there's the funny thing.. Mael doesn't even do fire magic or really anything fire-themed, he does ice magic as part of necromancy, and is more magically resistant to cold than he is physically resistant to heat.

i need more sylvari headcanons that are based directly on plants/fungi tbh

succulent sylvari being able to go days without drinking anything

sylvari that are based on specific trees which can’t stand the cold having problems with injured bark/limbs in shiverpeak mountains due to winter damage

sick sylvari getting all sorts of leaf diseases / losing their leaves

some poor sylvari having (perhaps chronic) problems with excessive sap dripping

just tree diseases in general

specific mushroom and tree sylvari being friends because of symbiosis (even if just on a sort of metaphorical level)

sylvari that lose all sorts of pollen (I know they don’t reproduce but.. just imagine) upsetting all the allergic people around

imagine a corpse flower sylvari…. poor thing doesn’t have any friends. apart from perhaps noseless sylvari.

I think that if Dante had named Vergil's demonic half, he would have chosen Nimrod.

The mythological figure was a king, said to be the first to wear a crown. Urizen famously has horns in the shape of a crown, that are also reminiscent of Vergil's unique hairstyle.

The mythological figure led the people who built the Tower of Babel, and is even depicted as a giant who went to hell for this act in Dante's Divine Comedy. Urizen is a giant who raises the Qliphoth, a towering tree, and of course Vergil is also the name of someone who appears in the Divine Comedy.

The mythological figure was said to have inherited garments from Adam and Eve, which made him invincible. Urizen shields himself with a crystal containing Yamato, a sword that Vergil inherited from his father.

And, of course, a nimrod can be someone who is stupid. It seems fitting to me that Vergil would name himself after a god of reason and logic from his childhood hyperfixation, while Dante would call him a fucking moron in the most layered way possible.

Bringing my ancient lil baby, the Dragon of Ice and Love (as well as the so-called "Cuckoo Spirit"), Numen! Pictured here in their adolescent form, Elder form, and norn form. (Elder portrait commissioned from the lovely DiesVitae!)

As a scion of Jormag, Numen doesn't really have a gender nor adhere to any labels, but as a shapeshifter with cyclic amnesia they've lived many lives as mortals of various races and genders. The current avatar, Arnfinn, usually goes by he/him due to habit and a male upbringing, but doesn't mind being called other pronouns and eases into they/them as a default post-awakening.

They love to sing, both as a norn and as a dragon. Their true form's voice, which is a combination of all their previous voices, leans slightly feminine. Though they don't really remember their prior awakenings, one other notable avatar of theirs was a female jotun, Freyja.

anyway this is her fit for the quest!! I've tried on the other dress and I really hate how skinny it makes her 😭 also she's not really a tight dress kind of person she likes having room for movement. This one had the same space as the suits but had more shiny bits :3 of course she lost her slippers almost immediately after the Iron Wheel busted everyone LMAO she had to throw Silver-Claw over a wall and then climb it and she needed traction and the dogs were BARKING

Likes: Quenanya likes the tea she used to have in Cheydenhal – Dunmeri teas like Canis Root tea, she prefers it to the floral teas common in Summerset).

Dislikes: Quenanya is a picky eater, she’s the kind of person who can’t stand certain textures – such as slimy textures and the textures of grapes and tomatoes, they make her gag).

Caliathmo:

Likes: Due to Caliathmo growing up quite poor, there aren't many foods he wont try at least once. Caliathmo likes jellied eals (a dish I headcannon is eaten by Summerset's poorer citizens, Quenanya thinks they are a crime against all merkind). During his time in Skyrim, Caliathmo found that he really likes Nord cooking, he really likes their stews. He loves a good meaty stew with some crusty fresh bread.

Dislikes: Caliathmo can't handle spicy food at all, but he's the type of person who refuses to admit it and suffer through it anyway.

Quenanya can’t cook a decent meal to save her life (due to being raised with household staff who made all her meals for her). She will literally burn water.

It’s lucky then that Caliathmo is an excellent cook, Caliathmo has made it his life’s mission to broaden Quenanya’s culinary horizons, he thinks its ridiculous that Quenanya has had access to some of the best ingredients available yet likes so few of them.

If I were called upon to explain why Dante's Quicksilver and Doppelganger styles do not appear in most games, I would suggest that Dante simply released those demons' souls, for the same reason that he chooses to use Force Edge over Rebellion after Devil May Cry 3, and the same reason that he later switches back to Rebellion and entrusts Devil Sword Sparda to Trish. Dante is uncomfortable with power, and I think he felt that most acutely after watching his brother be consumed by his pursuit of it.

At the same time, I don't think Dante would simply release two potentially dangerous demons into the Human World. Instead, I like to imagine he imbued these souls into mundane objects, which he pawned to Enzo along with his weapons. A mirror, for the Doppelganger, and perhaps either a clock or a saddle for Geryon.

To take things one step further, I'd suggest that Dante's aversion to demonic power became so acute after the end of Devil May Cry 3, that he did the same thing with Trickster and Royal Guard, which is why he doesn't use them in the original Devil May Cry or Devil May Cry 2. Perhaps a pair of boots and some kind of shield respectively?

Perhaps it's after his own time spent in the Underworld that his views toward power soften a little, and he accepts that it can be useful in his hands. Perhaps it's simply due to seeing so many threats that the Underworld has to offer, or maybe seeing the land that Vergil chose to fall to maybe helps him understand his brother a little better.

I don't see this applying to Swordmaster or Gunslinger, simply because those are more representative of Dante's learned skills than his innate powers. I'd sooner tie this into the fact that Dante repurchases his skills from the Idol Of Time And Space in every game, as though he's forgotten them (this does extend to the levels of each Style, after all).

Maybe Dante simply has a poor memory? Maybe he doesn't train all the time, once again because he doesn't want more power than he needs? Or perhaps he sells his knowledge back to the Idol, thinking they might serve other devil hunters in the past and future?

A friend of mine has suggested the possibility of Dante, at least in his youth, shooting himself in the head recreationally, and having gaps in his memory because of it...
