Hi, this ask is your excuse to talk about, Helios the Daystalker

Oh boy I have a bit to say about Daystalker. I finalised his design during the September bird challenge last year, but he's existed for longer than that, and has come leaps and bounds in how he's developed as a character. Bro went from an asshole antagonist character to Demigod Dad who aids protagonists from time to time depending on the AU.

As I've said before, Daystalker is a Dawnrunner, a fan-species created by @grimm-the-6th/@ashe-alter. Think of them as the anti-nightcrawlers of Atmos, they thrive in the sunlight, their weapons are often fitted with raystones (sol crystals but sharp), they are a bitch and a half to kill and they terrify me. Thank you for letting me include them in my lore, Grimm.

I detailed a lot of his abilities in this post here, so if anyone's interested in that, check it out.

He's also able to pass on these abilities to his adoptive children and his Disciples. A Disciple is what happens when a Champion forms a contract of sorts with a mortal, akin to the pact D&D warlocks make with their patrons. Daystalker is quite particular about who he appoints as his Disicples, usually they're children of his who've reached adulthood and wish to remain part of the pride with himself and Honeytongue, though it must be earned.

A small quirk of being a Disciple of Daystalker specifically is that in forming a contract, the person becomes a Dawnrunner if they aren't one already, taking on hybrid traits in combination with whatever species they already were. Horns and a tail are always a guarantee.

I love looking back on this guy's development from a writer's perspective. When I first came up with him, he was an asshole. Saw other races as unworthy of his presence, lived for the glory of the hunt and nothing more, hated Syphons (a mage variant that is yet another lore piece Grimm has let me steal), and started off as a major antagonist in my "season 4" of Storm Hawks which takes place after the Hawks get back from the Far Side by accidentally blowing up the Barrier Cliffs and letting loose the apocalypse for Apocalypse 2: Electric Boogaloo. He was meant to try hunting down the team for causing trouble for another Champion and beat the living daylights out of Arygyn for getting in his way.

Now he is a Dad. A potential ally for the Storm Hawks on the Far Side who is constantly at risk of adopting any lost child he comes across on hunts. I love him so much more, even if he would've been fun to keep as a monstrous villain. And all this because when I was designing Cynniris, an Aquinoan-born Syphon, I decided he adopted her because he wasn't keen on hurting children because they weren't as satisfying a hunt. At the same time, Grimm was working more and more on Dawnrunner family dynamics, which I was incorporating into my existing Dawnrunner characters. Now we're here :3

Unexpected move, option #6, tell me about one you haven't worked out fully yet and haven't presented to anyone yet

Ooh, okay. This one is surprisingly tough, because there's not a lot of characters I have that I haven't shared to anyone at all, especially not from my Champions roster. I share a private Discord server with three close friends who I usually bounce all my ideas off of fairly early in development before bringing them up to other people in the larger Storm Hawks server.

I could tell you about Charlotte the Oathweaver, an ancient spiderfolk Champion who is older than Stonebinder and also works in the domain of vows.

Or his two 'apprentices', Cesa and Arnaki the Heartspinners. Twin Champions.

I don't think I've brought up Visage, the identities Champion outside the buddy server.

I'll tell you about Aeolus, who popped into my head the other week because of a song about the original Greek god who is featured in Homer's Odyssey.

Aeolus is a very old, but childish demigod, with a reputation for being fickle and nigh-impossible to please.

This is because they live up to the nature of their elemental domain, which is the wind. To lean into nature is to become more powerful as a demigod built to channel said elements, but it comes at the risk of becoming more detached from the mortals you were tasked with protecting. Everything is a game to Aeolus as a result, and those who ask them for help in certain matters will often find themselves being thrown into further disaster instead.

I don't have a full design yet, but they look like a ferret.

Hi, this ask is your excuse to talk about, Mycellium the Darkwalker

Ooh yes, this'll be fun :3

So Darkwalker is actually named after a video game character. I play a winter apocalypse survival game called The Long Dark which focuses very heavily on realism, but it has a challenge mode called "Escape the Darkwalker" that originally started as a Halloween event. The aim of the challenge is to survive as long as possible while this invisible, horrific force of nature constantly follows you across the frozen wilderness and not even hiding away in a house in the rare remains of civilisation can stop it from getting at you. Either you die from cold, hunger or thirst first, or Darkwalker gets you.

According to promo art it looks like this

Mycelium is slightly less malignant though. As a Champion, they are one of several who embodies death (others include Midnight Son and Wandering Sun). The 'god' of death is known as Decay, and it's the embodiment of time, erosion, fading memories and death. It's technically unfathomable, but I picture it looking like talking roadkill.

But back to Mycelium, they are effectively a nature spirit who focuses on paving the way for new life after death. More often than not they're covered in mushrooms and musty, decaying furs, and they smell like a compost heap. They were rather kooky, but overall quite chill unless you disrespect the sanctity of nature in some way, such as by littering. Clean up after yourself. And don't be mean to possums or raccoons, or any other 'trash' animal.

In the modern day though, they're not quite as friendly. On our side of Atmos, there's a Terra once known as Londras, known for its snowy landscape and beautiful forests. An... incident involving Sky Knights getting into a fight in the crystal mines lead to the whole Terra being split open, exposing the core and causing the land to plummet into a deadly arctic winter. Unbeknownst to anyone there, Darkwalker had been hibernating in the crystal core for milennia, and the sudden rude awakening has left them hostile to people and downright feral. Survivors of this localised winter apocalypse know better than to get in their way, and the storms surrounding this Terra often crash passing ships into its surface, leaving poor unfortunate souls to attract Darkwalker's wrath.

Maybe one day they'll calm down, but until then, Londras is known as Wintermute.

And that's what I have so far. I do actually have an idea for a fic involving Piper, Dark Ace and Darkwalker, but I have no idea when it'll be written.

So a bit of an on-again-off-again project I’ve been chipping away at over the last year or so has been a full map of Atmos that I can use for fanfic and role plays, because we never really got one in canon. It’s been a bit of a tough ride because I kept agonising over how I was meant to do it, but I picked it back up again this week and I think I’m starting to make some progress. I’ve got most of the named Terras in the show down, figured out where to put other landmarks like Polaris Pointe and the Black Gorge. All I really need to do is draw everything and fill in the gaps with a few fan-terras, which the Discord server’s been a lot of help with.

As for the art style, y’all can see from the examples that I’m going for a fantasy style. A bit like what you’d see in a kid’s first atlas, with the major landmarks of each Terra being exaggerated. I always got the feeling that the terras were bigger than what we got to see.

Ref sheet for one of my nightcrawler characters that I made using the amber phantom again bc I really liked that one, and also he's tied to my actual entry, Gossamer. Mostly made to get a hang of the nightcrawler uniform and figure out some 'casualwear' for night elves/crawlers.

This is Glass, the nightcrawler who raised Gossamer from grub to adulthood. Most of his shared background can be read in Gossamer's entry. Like Gossamer, he's rather reserved, but he's part of the fighting ranks of Cyclonia's nightcrawlers and one of the oldest at around a century old.

While he misses having his own wings, he has no regrets toward choosing to save Gossamer rather than sacrifice her to get them back. They remain close to this day.

How about both! Technically I already did Cyclonis a while back but I did it wrong, so take this one.

Cyclonis:

I have headcanons galore for this little brat, especially concerning her family. I also put her through the wringer on the Far Side, including a literal curse of bad luck backfiring on her which eventually leads to her embarrassing capture at the hands of the Storm Hawks.

Overall, I gift her shaking wet rat energy underneath all that Hot Topic edge.

Ravess:

"I will kill anyone who hurts them" also applies to myself. I have hurt her and will suffer the consequences lol. Gave her all the family problems including being forced into the role of caretaker for Snipe at a young age because their mother sucked. Seeing how everyone interprets her and her relationship with Snipe, Cyclonis and everyone else is super interesting to me.

I’m so sorry for laughing at this, this was one of the first things I woke up to this morning XD

Radarr is a lemur. Lemurs aren’t supposed to have money. They’re also not supposed to know how to pilot Sky-rides and ships, but Radarr does know how to do that because why the hell not? So I’d say it’s safe to assume he knows how money and tipping works.

Let’s face it, watching a three-foot-tall blue lemur climb up to the tip jar is adorable, though you’ve got to ask where he got the money from. Definitely not Stork, that’s for sure.

He pickpockets it. But hey, you aren’t paid to ask those sorts of questions.

9/10, points for cuteness but also one point removed for crimes

Hmm, one WIP that I haven't touched in a while but really want to get back to is this one where Aerrow goes out to learn more about the old Storm Hawks. I've talked about it here and there on Discord, so some people might recognise this one.

Taking place just before Payback, it was about Aerrow going from person to person (Harrier, Starling, even Repton) and asking them what the old team was like. Pretty sure I literally only have one chapter left to write, but that's the part that I really wanted to get to but when I did the words just. weren't. happening.

Infuriating, I should take another crack at it honestly. Especially considering how close I was to finishing it.

The last scene was supposed to be Aerrow finally visiting the graves of Lightning Strike and the others, and finding the Dark Ace waiting there. He heard about Aerrow's little 'quest' for information and decided to share his own perspective on things, in his own bastard way.

Whilst also kicking Aerrow's ass and threatening to kill him for good if they cross paths again.

Of course after that, Payback happens and the next time they meet is during The Key episode. We know how that goes.

First rough colour sketch of this month’s character, Harvestman. During the show events, so post-Black Gorge, he’s roughly in his 70s here.

The man is legally blind; the pitch blackness of the Gorge combined with injuries and all the dubious things he wound up eating down there in his efforts to survive have completely ruined his remaining eye. It’s probably warped a lot of his physiology to be honest. There’s Things down there that nobody really understands.

Being blind does not stop him from being a menace. The doctors gave him a white cane and now he’ll make it everyone’s problem by swinging it at their ankles while he walks.

I also decided he’s the man responsible for that map Stork has in the Gorge episode. The reason it was so crudely done is because someone else was making it whilst he tried to remember stuff based on spatial memory. It was a lot of “This cave lead to that tunnel and on the left was the poison rock cave and a pit of death on the right”, which lead to a bit of a mess. But hey, it’s better than trying to go down there with nothing, right?

Yes, I gave him wolf ears. No, I don’t have a reason yet.
