Seriously, I think this is my most canon depiction of Dark Ace, even if he does spend most of the fic as a cat. 100% murderous intentions towards Storm Hawks. Asshole to the core. But kitty.
Okay more like AU thoughts that if you did it right could still follow canon and make for a huge twist.
Lightning Strike and The Dark Ace are actually the same person.
Now before you say "no that's not possible they look nothing alike in the flash back." Or "that's not right, he was like 16 and tiny" or "Aerrow is Lightning's son this isn't possible." Bare with me. I have explanations.
First and foremost being this scene right here. It never happened. This is Aerrow's narration of what happened to Lightning Strike and the original storm hawks. He is 14 and was not there, he is an unreliable narrator. He is repeating what he's been told happened that day.
Aerrow would have been 4 and he had no idea he was related to Lightning. And they never said Aerrow was Lightning's son. The show says Last "Descendant" of the original storm hawks. Later changed to specifically Lightning Strike. Descendants aren't always directly related.
So Aerrow takes this knowledge and weaves together the scene in his head. Lightning has the generic idealized skyknight build. The dorito body. Actually very similar to Carver, the skyknight that the team idolized before meeting him. Aerrow's been told hes a descendant so Lightning gets red spikey hair like him.
He's been told that Lightning was betrayed by his co-pilot. The assumption being a co-pilot is younger, smaller and inexperienced. Also, he's been told that Dark Ace killed the old team so logically we get a much smaller and younger Dark Ace.
Now what if all of that was made up by the council to hide the truth. That golden boy Lightning Strike, the greatest skyknight to have ever lived, betrayed all of Atmos. They tell the public that his nobody co-pilot betrayed him, struck him from behind and then used a powerful crystal to wipe out the rest of the team and cripple the other squadrons. He later became the Dark Ace.
At least that's the story
He didn't kill Lightning with his own sword. He is Lightning, that's his sword to begin with.
And if you want to follow the idea that the daggers were his then how did they end up on the condor?
Also here are Aerrow's daggers. They weren't a matched set like how he wields them but two separate weapons for two separate members of the team.
I don't have any motivations at the moment but we were never given any motivations for a betrayal to begin with. And Carver's reasoning was "...see which way the wind is blowing. The future is master Cyclonis." That's all we're given.
What do you Y'all think. Is Dark Ace actually Lightning Strike and the betrayal story a cover up?
Okay, I'm on bedrest because some brats dropped a ceiling on top of me. My friend suggested this 'blog' thing to me so I wouldn't die of boredom while I'm recovering. I guess if anyone's got any questions for me, then fire away?
This is a horrible idea.
OOC - Hi! @far-side-skies here, I decided to make an ask blog for my version of Dark Ace, centered around the AU for my current main fic, Buridan's Storm!
Another doodle dump, this time of just Raven's Revival, in which it will be about Raven and the kids recovering from the events from the previous fic, as well as getting the chances to explore themselves and their surroundings.
Next chapter is up for Mirrored Gold! I finally finished drawing the new Red Eagles… I have so many regrets tracing Dark Ace/Aerik, the shows style is a nightmare for me to replicate.
From left to right: Axel, Earl, Ferne, Aerik, Vasha, Imogen and Sean (he’s introduced in chapter 7).
Okay, I had a completely different part 3 planned, but I'm still working on it, so that's gonna be pushed to a part four.
Part 3 is now about the episode Velocity (my favorite episode)
There's a few details we learn in this episode that I realized help with this theory. It seems to be the episode that spawned the very common headcannon that Dark Ace is a racer and was the racer for the old team.
We're told that the old storm hawks always won the great race, but that it hasn't been run in ten years.
Now, here's the little hiccup.
The great race is for the skyknights.
There's several suggestions throughout the series that there can and are multiple skyknights for certain squadrons. So that explains why Burner, who is assumed to be the skyknight for the third-degree burners, isn't racing, but the other guy with the weird voice is. They could be co-skyknights for Saharr.
That would mean though that if Dark Ace was the co-pilot, then he would not have been in the race.
We see in his confidence and familiarity with both the course and the races rules that he has run it before.
"I thought you were all supposed to be good." Is not a taunt someone throws out on a race course they're not familiar with. No matter how skilled the racer.
He was hoping for at least a challenge. It's the first time he's raced in ten years.
He would have had to be the skyknight. He is Lightning Strike.
