Close to 10am. A white sky, a pale sun. Most of today flooded with the various sounds and tones that meld into one dense, comforting noise so close to the sea. Touching base at the lighthouse. Wondering how residing up there might feel like, always between the waves and the coastal forests, always with both and always keeping a reasonable distance.

Good morning lovely people! Oh my god I'm having the best introvert day at work ever 😆 this HUGE building, that is always packed to the brim with rowdy chaotic people and keeps me constantly overstimulated and overwhelmed, is SO empty I can hear the cars driving on the rain soaked road, someone's JBL something connecting with their signature chime, and someone eating something crunchy on another aisle.

Calling it quits way early today so I can be fresh at church tomorrow. My home is reset, tidied, and swept. Bread has been made. For a bonus, I got the ironing caught up and sprayed my living room curtains down with a linen refresh spray.

Simple, quiet days are my favorite, the kind where I can quickly see the fruit of my labors. Speaking of fruit, I was inspired today by Homemaker Chic to think about decorating with fruit and vegetables more before we eat them.

I was sitting and feeding the baby, with my feet in my husbands lap and he had his head tipped back and his eyes closed.

"You know, you can wake me up to take care of her in the morning instead of being tired as fuck all day."

His eyes stay closed, but he reaches for one of my feet to squeeze it lightly.

"Research indicates that it takes 18 months to two years to fully recover from pregnancy and childbirth. You need the extra rest."

"Research indicates?"

He opens one eye and side-eyes me with it. "Yes...what? I've done my due diligence...I needed to know how I could help."

This fucking guy.

"What did they suggest, these researchers?"

He raises my leg up to his lips, and kisses the inside of my ankle. "I had to draw my own conclusions but I think I have it down to a science now."

He sinks his teeth into my calf, just enough to make me jump a little, but not as hard as he usually would were I not holding the baby.

"Talk science to me, nerd boy."

"It's quite simple really...and not much different from how I'd care for you any other time. Lots of attention, affection, occasional vigorous activity..." he winks at me when he says that last part. "The only thing different is the extra mac and cheese."

"What's that for?"

"Healthy bones? I don't know, science is a living thing."

Lyra gets the hiccups then, and I sit up a little more to drape her over my shoulder and pat her back. "Oh no, big hiccups for such a little nugget!" He leans over, politely helping my boob back into my tank top before giving me a kiss. "Thanks for the assist."

He stays just a hair away, our lips almost touching...eyes closed again, until he clears his throat and moves. "Yeah, no problem. I got you. Thanks for the baby."

Last summer I was on a very expedited acid come up at a music festival and my entirely unaware mother thousands of miles away was at costco and texted me incredulous at how they already had halloween stuff out for sale in the summer but all I saw was a message preview of a giant 10 foot tall skeleton with glowing eyes and "can u believe it??"

Anderes Streckenmaß, heute. Treiben lassen mit den Stunden. Der milde Vormittag zieht Menschen an den Steinstrand, etwas weiter am Kutter trifft man sich zu Kaffee und Backfisch. Milchig leuchtet der Himmel. Das Licht wird wieder stärker, wärmer. Blühende Haselnuss, Schneeglöckchen, einmal mehr schimmert Frühling durch den fadenscheinig gewordenen Winter.
