BALSIMORE, Windenburg (SNN) - Queen Katherine is back at one of the biggest social events of the year; Royal Ascot!
The monarch, 31, arrived at Royal Ascot on Saturday after missing the horse racing event last year due to maternity leave. It is the first engagement to go into her diary at the start of the year.
We were all waiting to see what color the Queen would wear and, for this year's outing, the monarch wore a yellow Bea dress by @theroyalsims, with a matching Princess of...IX hat by @rustys-cc — and arrived to cheers from the crowd of racegoers.
Tumblr media
Easton Racecourse is rich in history and heritage, hosting one of the world's most prestigious race meetings, Royal Ascot, as well as 13 of Windenburg's annual Flat Group 1 horse races, and numerous Grade 1 Jumps races. Designed by @albanyroyals, it is a popular Windenburg venue!
Tumblr media
The Queen, who adores racing and loves Ascot, is scheduled to bring guests, and members of her family with her on each of the three days of the event. We will be excited to see if yellow will remain Her Majesty's color theme.
Tumblr media
Missing from Her Majesty's attire is a brooch! The new Queen has already become quite synonymous for adorning many of the pieces within the Jewels of the Crown.
Rainier, Prince consort looked dashing in a @melonsloth morning suit and top hat. As Chair of the Queens Coronation Committee, His Royal Highness has been quite busy. Invites were released last week confirming May 18th as the day of the Queens Coronation.
Tumblr media
Riding in the first Carriage with Her Majesty and the Prince consort are the Grand Duke and Duchess of Glimmerbrook.
Tumblr media
The Grand Duke and Duchess were elated to accompany Her Majesty on Day 1 of the Ascot. Considered a prestigious honor, it symbolizes a strong bond between the two nations.
Tumblr media
Glimmerbrook, less than two years ago ceded from Oasis Springs and regained sovereignty, in a deal many believe His late Majesty George I was a strong supporter of.
Tumblr media
The Duke and Duchess of Kent, and the Earl and Countess of Boykins followed in the second carriage.
Tumblr media
The Duchess of Kent looked chic in a vintage 1960s Audrey Hepburn dress and white cocktail hat.
Avid equestrians, the Duke and Duchess have attended Day 1 of Royal Ascot for the past 24 years.
Tumblr media
The Earl and Countess of Boykins were equally chic, while the earl enjoyed his first Ascot as a member of the royal family. The Princess looked classic in purple wearing a Cordelia dress by @sentate, and another gorgeous cocktail hat by @melonsloth.
Tumblr media
Everyone is waiting to catch a blimps of the Queen. Despite the fact that we've had some showers, it hasn't dampened Sims spirits. They are all in, keen to see her!
Tumblr media
You'll notice the carriages are open and, unless it is pouring down, the monarch will keep the carriage top open to be seen. For many, this is the closest opportunity they will get to the monarch.
Tumblr media
Having become close with the foreign royals since becoming Queen, it's speculated that the Duke of Glimmerbrook is on Her Majesty's short list to be invested as a Knight of the Order of the Garter in June.
Tumblr media
The Queen will take a right, the same way the winners of the race this afternoon will take, under that tunnel to end the royal procession; but not before passing the Wayne Roof where a reception for Her Majesty will be held.
Tumblr media
The Queen arrived, welcomed by Gary Baumgartner, Her Majesty's representative here at Ascot, Alvin Duvalton, the Chairman, Richard Paxton, Co-Chairman, and four trustees of the business.
Tumblr media
Her love of this sport just glows ever strong! Journalists, Anderson Crooper said this week, "Racing is so lucky to have Her Majesty the Queen continuing the legacy of Ascot started by her great-grandparents in this sport." Sentiments we here at SNN echo!
This concludes SNNs coverage of Royal Ascot: The Royal Procession Day 1.

My Dramione Evil Author Story "A Clock With No Numbers" has been updated! Get out your Omnioculars because it's time to go to the Thestral Races at Inkspot Downs.
CHAPTER 14: "Thestral Races, Part One"
------------------------------------------------
EXCERPT:
Harry looked around, frowning. They were standing under a wide black canopy set up for Apparation. Well-dressed racegoers kept popping up around them and then joining the line to show their tickets.
“I feel like I’m at a weirdly happy funeral,” he said. “With canapés.”
“You’ll need to change your robes, Harry,” Hermione said in a low voice. “We need to look like two friends at the races.”
Nodding, Harry drew his wand and Transfigured his robes to plain black ones while continuing to scan the crowd. This place is crawling with dangerous characters. Why won’t Hermione admit she’s in over her head? Ron should be here, helping protect her.
Hermione rolled her eyes at the echoing thought and wondered if it was safe for a Head Auror to be so delusional.

Last MotoGP post before i literally die to monaco-induced stress but is it bad that I’m actually surprised the catalan crowd were cheering so loudly for martin given his interesting (at best) views that he displays after every race win with *that* flag. I know other racegoers probably don’t care that much and just want to see a spanish rider win but I was surprised that they were as loud for him as they were acosta.

I’ve always rolled me eyes a bit at the “Kate doesn’t get along with Beatrice and Eugenie!!” Because they first cropped up around 2007-2008 and I’m the same age as Eugenie, I doubt my older cousin’s girlfriend would be all that keen to hang out with a barely legal teenager. It makes more sense that as they’ve all grown older that age gap doesn’t matter as much anymore and they’re in more similar stages of their lives.
thank you! and you raise a good point because I'm not even friends with my cousin's girlfriends who are my age but that doesn't mean I hate them or that I bullied them when they came into the family

The Beulah dress you just posted was worn in a longer version by Sophie Winkleman at Ascot! And another patron (not a royal, just a racegoer) also wore the shorter version you posted, so you might have seen her picture too.

Thank you guys for reminding me! I knew I saw someone in it! She looked fabulous, too.

Duchess Catherine and Prince William Make Their Royal Ascot Debut for 2022 Amid a Heatwave!
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made their first appearance at one of Queen Elizabeth’s favorite events
SIMON PERRY, June 17, 2022 09:31 AM
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge led the royal family in the carriage processional at the iconic horse race. Dressed in a top hat and tailcoat, William and Kate — who wore a brown and white polka dot dress by Alessandra Rich paired with a hat featuring floral details on top by Sally-Ann Provan — rode in the first carriage that appeared at the top of the course and traveled along the famous track.
Kate also accessorized with the South-Sea pearl earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana. Diana wore the jewels on many occasions during the 1990s.
Joining Prince William, 39, and Kate, 40, in their carriage was William Vestey, the current Lord Vestey and his wife, Violet. William Vestey inherited the title when his father Samuel Vestey, who was close to Queen Elizabeth, died amid the COVID pandemic in February 2021 — just nine weeks after his wife.
Tumblr media
In the second carriage were Prince William's cousin Peter Phillips and his new girlfriend Lindsay Wallace, who had made her royal debut at another famous horserace, the Derby, during Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee weekend.
big topic of conversation at the race track on Friday was the sweltering heat. With temperatures predicted to be close to 90 degrees, it was perhaps unsurprising that the 96-year-old monarch skipped Royal Ascot for the fourth day in a row. (There's still a chance she'll make an appearance on Saturday.)
Amid the soaring heat, men were allowed to remove their jackets and ties as the Ascot authorities relaxed the dress code (it's the first time men have been able to go tie-less!). All spectators were also permitted to bring water and soft drinks into the arena.
However, all racegoers were expected to arrive at the course dressed in the full attire of jackets and ties. In the Royal Enclosure, that also means a top hat and a vest or waistcoat and tailcoat. Women still had to wear hats and make sure their dresses were of modest length and complied with formal day wear.
William and Kate are gearing up for a busy summer. On June 21, William celebrates his milestone 40th birthday. The Cambridge family is also planning a big move this summer.
The couple is planning to relocate from their London home at Kensington Palace to a new residence some 30 miles west in Berkshire, the county that houses the Queen's primary residence, Windsor Castle.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte will leave their London prep school, Thomas's Battersea, at the end of the current term, PEOPLE confirms, and will enroll in a school in the Windsor area. It has been widely reported that the family will occupy Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate, but that is unconfirmed. The palace had no comment.
For the fourth day in a row, Queen Elizabeth was absent from Royal Ascot, which is one of her favorite events of the year. As with all of the monarch's public outings, palace sources aren't able to say if she will be able to attend until the hours beforehand due to her ongoing mobility issues.

When Carmo eventually closed down his touring circus, Laura Knight was forced to find new subjects for her painting and on the suggestion of the artist Alfred Munnings painted the racegoers at Ascot and Epsom as well as the gypsies, who would circulate the meetings telling fortunes.
The gypsies liked Knight so much that they invited her to paint them in the privacy of their camp on the Common at Iver in Buckinghamshire, and it was probably here that she painted this work of Gilderoy Smith.

The Fascinating History of Fascinators
Fascinators are a Must-Have Accessory!
In the world of fashion, certain accessories have the power to make a statement and elevate an outfit to new heights. One such accessory is the fascinator. With its intricate designs and whimsical charm, fascinators have become synonymous with elegance and sophistication. Join us as we delve into the history of fascinators, explore the appropriate colors to wear during the day and night, and discover the perfect occasions to showcase this delightful accessory. The Fascinating History of Fascinators: Fascinators have a long and storied history, dating back to the early 19th century in Europe. Originally known as "cockades," these ornamental headpieces were worn by women as a symbol of wealth and status. Over time, they evolved into elaborate creations adorned with feathers, ribbons, flowers, and even small trinkets. Fascinators gained popularity in the 20th century, particularly in the United Kingdom, where they became a staple at formal events like weddings, horse races, and garden parties. Daytime Fascinator Colors: When choosing a fascinator to wear during the day, it is essential to consider the overall ambiance and the outfit you will be wearing. Soft, pastel colors such as blush pink, light blue, mint green, or lavender are excellent choices for daytime events. These colors exude a sense of freshness and femininity, perfectly complementing a springtime or summer ensemble. Opting for neutral tones like beige, ivory, or light grey can also create a sophisticated and understated daytime look. Nighttime Fascinator Colors: For evening events, fascinators can take on a more dramatic and glamorous flair. Deep jewel tones like emerald green, sapphire blue, rich burgundy, or royal purple can add a touch of opulence and elegance to your outfit. Black fascinators are also a classic choice for nighttime events, as they effortlessly blend with any attire while exuding an air of sophistication.
Where to Wear a Fascinator: Fascinators are incredibly versatile accessories that can be worn to a variety of events and occasions. Here are a few occasions where you can showcase your fascinator: 1. Weddings: Fascinators have long been a popular choice for weddings, particularly in the United Kingdom. Whether you are a guest, a member of the bridal party, or even the bride herself, a carefully chosen fascinator can add a touch of glamour and make you stand out on this special day. 2. Race Days: Fascinators and horse racing have a strong association. Many racegoers don fascinators as part of their race day attire, creating a sense of elegance and tradition. 3. Garden Parties: Embrace the whimsical charm of fascinators at garden parties, where you can showcase your creativity and individual style. Floral-inspired fascinators are particularly fitting for these occasions, complementing the lush surroundings. 4. Cocktail Parties: Add a touch of glamour to your cocktail party attire with a sophisticated fascinator. Opt for darker hues and embellishments to create a striking and fashionable look. Fascinators have come a long way since their inception, evolving from simple cockades to intricate and eye-catching headpieces. With their rich history and versatility, fascinators have become a go-to accessory for a range of events. Whether you choose a soft pastel fascinator for a daytime affair or a bold jewel-toned piece for a glamorous evening event, these headpieces are sure to make a lasting impression. Readers Up #20: On Swift Horses
I decided to post some of my old newsletter, since it's been in a holding pattern for some time now--some favorites, now and then, as I turn over whether I want to revive it or take it in some different direction. This one is about On Swift Horses by Shannon Pufahl.
...
From the liner notes to my ongoing collaborative art concept with Jessica Chapel, The Secret Life of the American Racegoer: “[The term terrain vague] made me think of you and the Stretch and racetracks as potential spaces and places within racetracks that have form but no longer function.”
Can I get a holler from my fellow psychogeographers? For place obsessives like myself, racetracks are not only a treasure trove of living (sometimes calcified) history, but also the map to the hoard. Depending on your aims, a map is often more fascinating than gold. Consider Suffolk Downs, now defunct; imagine a day-drunk Bostonian lecturing all who will listen on the wave-like dips and hills of the concrete, his hand moving sinuously to mimic the rushed construction job. Consider the Stretch at Saratoga, supplanting much-mourned sections X-Z, and in the process attempting to streamline the Spa experience into something marketable and above all moneymaking. Consider Hollywood Park, not just defunct but destroyed: Citation’s million-dollar win has no basis in material reality, only in memory and media--notoriously unreliable formats.
American racing resists popular narrative, and American narratives typically have little interest in racing unless a bow-wrapped happily-ever-after is available. It’s hard to imagine Seabiscuit getting greenlit these days; anyway, the true proving ground of any medium is ubiquity, not singularity. In this way, Shannon Pufahl’s debut novel On Swift Horses arrived as a stunning gust of fresh air. The Del Mar of the mid-1950s is both central and tangential to the book, at one point the fulcrum on which the plot turns and elsewhere an everyday backdrop. Not all secrets are illicit, and protagonist Muriel’s gradual absorption into the racetrack embraces the notion of the private life, the fundamentally solitary nature of railbirds, the quiet bestowed on the solo racegoer among a packed apron of screaming bettors. To a reader not born to the track, the way Muriel learns and moves feels like a gift. The eavesdropping, the cadence mimicked after people who know what they’re about have moved out of earshot; the matching of gleaned knowledge to physical evidence, the half-fearful thrill of the first brush through the turnstile, first drink, first bet. Muriel’s experience in 1956 mirrors mine in 2015, the discovery of a gate to forbidden country and then the discovery that there are no gatekeepers.
The first time is a transgression, Pufahl writes. The second is a strategy. Her novel is many things, but above all a story of essential gambles, sleight of hand and betting against the house and handicapping from every angle and snatching information both hidden and plain as day, all of it necessary to queer women and men in the not-so-distant past. Protagonist Julius’s perspective is an inverse of Muriel’s, yet both halves of the story employ gambles and the peculiar codes of cards and horses as analogy, poetry, and plot drivers in pursuit of the true self. If we can learn the new language of the racing form, what other languages might be out there for the speaking? Muriel’s bildungsroman refers to itself throughout: the cloaked bywords used by queer men in San Francisco call back to the horsemen’s vocabulary she picks up at her waitressing job. The celebratory kiss she receives from a fellow female horseplayer at the track foretells her affair with a lone homesteading woman neighbor. As in another classic of belated coming-of-age, On Swift Horses is concerned not only with the moment of awakening, but the reality that we never stop awakening.
A treasure map leads from point A to the final X, marking the spot of reward. Julius and Muriel’s stories are deeply concerned with maps, as Julius drifts across borders in search of his fled beloved and Muriel follows the inadvertent trail laid by the horsemen who frequent her workplace. All great California writing is place-writing; Didion and Babitz, Steinbeck and Solnit all understood the state as a map continually rewritten, the sort of Borgesian map that is to scale with its uncharted emotional territory. Julius breaks his own ground, seeding the earth from Nevada to California to Mexico with clues that he hopes might come back to him. Muriel’s map is written across bodies--her own and her husband’s, those of the men who dance with her in the Chester Hotel and the women whose lives portend something her own might become-- and its treasures are those which hide in plain sight. Wealth is knowledge, in love as in racing, passed between those with shared language. As we say in libraries, sometimes seriously, information wants to be free. The flow of love in a cellar where Julius meets a man he knows and doesn’t nestles against the flow of luck in which Muriel swims at Del Mar. The physical evidence of men’s love shows itself in graffiti, names and hearts, while luck appears in green stacks with near-endless utility. To be recognized, to have words to describe experience, is to be rich. The culmination of Julius and Muriel’s treasure-seeking is a life writ larger, more real, closer to exact, nearer the divine.
Seeing the racetrack and its denizens serve a larger story is rewarding, as Pufahl is concerned less with one singular big-ticket affair than with the mosaic and continuous. I’ll always err on the side of the mundane, versus the stellar. Seabiscuit was one in a million, Citation the first to crack a million, but around the country races go on every day. Racing is a micro-sport which is at its most beneficent and rich when experienced through the macro. When you get down to it, luck can’t be bucked; the joy of handicapping is in its endless permutations, or maybe in fooling yourself, but in either case there is always something larger at work, impassive as evolution. The great joy of Saratoga sections X-Z was their formlessness, their potential to be shaped to each racegoer’s inclinations, a terra nullius waiting for its cartographers. On Swift Horses is an echo of American racetracks as civic and integral, a love letter to finding new words for old impressions, groundbreaking, intimate, and hopeful.
