stay with me
Tumblr media
an isaacwhy fic
she/her prns, uses of [name]
kinda based on the song:stay with me by miki matsubara
a/n:hii! I'm back with a slightly different vibe fic, finally smth not besties to lovers ik ik. it will be returning I'm just saying c: anyways this is just a comfort type fic, so basically all fluff so enjoy <33
* . °•★
It was rather quiet in [name's] apartment. The sun was setting, allowing the golden colors to seep through the windows, filling the room. Numerous candles were lit as she sat on her couch waiting for a text from her boyfriend. She had known Isaac, her lover, for years before realizing she was in love with him. It started out sweet and soft, marking just over six months with the label. The relationship is still soft, but you can most definitely tell you're comfortable with each other. She was bored and felt like seeing him despite him coming over just a few days ago. You looked around your living room, spotting the fresh Statice flowers he had gifted you one night. A soft smile formed on your face, glancing over at your phone from a buzz.
'I'm on my way, and we're gonna go for a little adventure, hope you're up for it :3 I'll be there in ten <3' -isaac
The girl giggled to herself, and blew out each candle around her place to get it ready. No matter how many times they've seen each other, it still sends her heart racing.
After what felt like an eternity, a knock was heard on her front door. Immediately opening it, Isaac's arms were found right around her, melting in her touch. It felt so intoxicating to him, yet not bothersome. Letting go, you had invited him in, wanting to ask where the two of you were going this lovely evening.
"It's a surprise, but it's something you love. Aside from me, obviously," he teased dramatically.
Teasing the girl was something Isaac took much pride in, to see her reactions, to see just how she'd respond to loving him. No matter how many months pass, he still cannot get over the fact that he's with you. After fighting with himself, and finding himself longing at her and everything she did, he's finally with her. Isaac can't help but smile and tease when he's with the girl, he's in fact still swooned as if it's day one.
In response [name] rolled her eyes playfully. Just because you're together does not mean you don't banter with one another, but she took the latter's word as she walked up to him. Grabbing his hands softly, she placed a gentle kiss on them and Isaac couldn't help but feel weak in the knees. How can this girl, still, have an effect on him? He giggled softly, grabbing her hands back and leading her out the door they were once at.
➶ 。˚ °
The two of you were in his car as Isaac refused to let you get the aux on this lovely evening. He had a specific idea in mind, japanese city pop, despite her fussing she was about to play that. Isaac smiled widely and playfully winked in response at the girl in his passenger side of his car. The melodic songs played softly, filling up the car as Isaac drove to his very secret location. That was until someone wanted to banter with him once more,
"What if I recognize where we're going?," [Name] questioned as she looked out the window, trying to get something out of the guy.
But he refused to budge, "Nuh uh, if you do, just um," he paused, "–close your eyes?"
The girl laughed, causing Isaac to softly grin to himself. She shook her head but complied with the latter, and decided to push him just a bit further.
"What if I don't wanna close my eyes, mr. why?"
"Baby, I will turn this car around and take myself on this date instead," he threw his head to the side to stare at her briefly. You couldn't help but giggle proudly at your work of pushing his buttons, not in a serious way of course.
The sun was settling down more than earlier as you've reached atop a grassy empty hill. Your eyes lit up and immediately looked towards Isaac, who's finding a place to park. The area is filled with trees and beautiful greenery, looking over a majority of the city. The sight was breathtaking, making it one of your favorite spots to decompress.
Isaac turned the music up as he rolled down all the windows so that they could enjoy a little something while sitting outside.
[Name] got out of the car and leaned on the hood of it. Joining her, Isaac pulled his girlfriend closer towards him, snaking his right arm around her waist. The atmosphere was calm and quiet, with the music softly playing as you watched the sky's color fade and bleed into one another.
"It's been so long since I've watched the sunset, Isaac" you said while taking his hand into your own.
Isaac smiled gently, "I know and I thought maybe you'd like to see it again, for fun, and with me," he replied just above a whisper. The air felt so intimate between the two of them, so surreal. [Name] leaned back to face him while smiling sweetly.
"Thank you love," she leaned back in and gave him a kiss. It was a gentle, sweet kiss, to show her appreciation for the idea. And Isaac ate every bit of it up. He loved doing things with you, simply being in the same room gives him all the joy in the world. But being sat next to you, in this atmosphere, doing something you love, made him fall twice as hard as he was before. He couldn't stop himself from smiling when he was around you as he smiled into the kiss, and placed his forehead on yours before placing a light kiss on it as well. Isaac’s eyes lingered on the way the pinks and oranges reflected on your skin, basking in the welcoming sun. If he knew that the golden hues complimented you so well, he would have done this ages ago.
Not to mention how he looks as well. His eyes were glittered and the sun rays bounced off of his brown curly hair, causing a slight blush to appear across your face. His choice of outfit didn't make the situation any better as he wore a black tank with a black short sleeved button up, opened, over it. It was one of his best fits, in your humble opinion. His skin was kissed by the setting sun, and god was he something. [Name] laid her head on Isaac's shoulder, breathing in deeply as his hands played with the hem of your shirt. Giggles were shared between the two of them, along with quiet confessions and lingering touches.
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷
As the sky began to darken, you got up and offered your hand out towards Isaac. Confused, he takes it and you start playfully dancing with him. Getting the hint, Isaac giggled and spun her around. Stay with me played aloud in the background as the two of you messed around. Isaac couldn't help but softly laugh as he enjoyed every second of this, dancing like you're the only ones in the world. Normally, he wouldn't be keen on dancing, especially if anyone saw, but he loved it with a certain someone. She made him feel alive in a sense, the same way he made her feel. It felt so cliché and silly, but it warmed your heart hearing him enjoy himself.
You snuck a laugh when Isaac began to sing dramatically as he swung his hips slowly with the song. It was ridiculous but it was a sight to see. He grabbed your left hand, spinning then dipping you smoothly with your free hand landing on his chest. His face was barely two inches over yours, as a rosy tint spread across his cheeks as he smiled. There was a brief pause in time, that's what it felt like at least, before he gently kissed her. It was rather more passionate than before, but it was endearing–until his stomach rumbled causing her to giggle.
"Someone's hungry," she teased as she fumbled her phone to check what time it was.
"Uh no, I'm Isaac," he joked as he was embarrassed, gaining a look in response.
"That was lame, come on I'm also hungry," she grimaced teasingly.
"Lame or not you loved it," he teased back, pointing his finger at her.
"Oh be quiet, I'll leave you here to starve," she laughed as she pushed him into the car. Isaac laughed with her, waiting to see what else the night held for them.
*☆•° . *

FORGOTTEN.
husband!nanami x wife!reader wc:1.3K contains: angst w/ nanami, afab!reader (she/her prns used), bit of fluff @ the end, slight mentions of drinking a/n: this is my first fic so im sorry if its a bit... ass...... ya... LOL ermmm hope u enjoy <3
Tumblr media
nanamii<3:
8:30. drinks, snacks, movie. You + me?
y/n:
is that even a question?? ofc baby :)
y/n:
dont be late, ill be waitinggggg
nanamii<3:
I wont be, I promise.
i set two glasses down on the coffee table, with the best wine set alongside them, a bowl of popcorn, and some candies i went and got earlier. everything looks perfect. oh- and lets not forget, our favorite movie, La La Land. he should be here any second now so i sit, waiting patiently, trying to contain my excitement.
8:45, phew, trafic must be bad. ill just shoot him a little text
y/n:
“hey sweetie, everything alright? miss u!!! got our movie ready for us!!!”
9:00, a sinking feeling settled in. maybe he's just running late, I thought, trying to hold on to hope.
the minutes dragged on, 9:30. 10:00
10:50.
i’m tired. i walk up to our room with trembling legs and my- already bad vision- is clouded teary, blurry eyes. half from the wine i’ve guzzled down, the other half from crying.
he promised. promised. he said he wouldn't be late and here i am, left with dissapointment. i crawl into my side of the bed sobbing, until sleep, finally overcomes me.
````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
meanwhile, nanami is rushing and rushing to get out and into his car, speeding to his wonderful wife.
"shit. shit shit shit" he mumbles looking at his watch which reads 11:30. "i got carried away with my work god she’s gonna be so disappointed. i promised i’d be home early today for our long-awaited date. drinks, extremely unhealthy snacks,but most importantly, her: the perfect time."
i race to the door and quickly unlock it. “sweetheart?” i call out. i walk in to see a wine glass spilled on our coffee table, her phone, and a black tv screen.
fuck.
shes been drinking.
i run my fingers through my hair, guilt just running through my veins. i loosen my tie and walk up to our shared bedroom, finding my beautiful wife curled up into our blankets.
“sweetheart, i am so so sorry-“
i pause as i notice the pillow stained with tears and her beautiful face, looking like she’s been crying. which makes me wanna cry. i look over at our clock. 3 hours. i hate to wake her but i need to see my baby.
“baby..?” i gently shake her awake and i hear her voice. breaking. i wrap my arms around her body.
“‘min..?” she says with sleep coating her words.
“yes sweetheart it’s me. look, i’m so sorry i just got caught up with-“
“just *hic* save it. don’t ’wanna hear it anymore nanami.”
she uses my full name.
“ baby please please i’m so so s-“
“‘said stop it. hic ‘don’t love me *hic* ‘don’t care about me. just get off me and *hic* stop.”
my heart drops. don’t care about her? how could she ever think something like that?
“ love you know i care about you okay? you’re just a bit tipsy and-“
“‘s always my fault isn’t it? *hic* how could i know you care when *hic* all you do is work work work.”
“don’t wanna be your *hic* wife anymore.”
what?
she doesn't.. what?
“stop it, don’t you dare say that” i respond with not only a breaking voice; but a breaking heart. she doesn’t mean it she’s just- tired. right? i mean, how could she?
right?
“tell me you don’t mean that doll, tell me now. baby please. please.” i say while peppering wet kisses on her damp cheeks. my voice is breaking and you could hear me on the verge of tears.
she doesn’t respond. why isn’t she talking. does she mean it? this is all my fault. i’ve been prioritizing work while my real priority has been slipping away from me?
i look over and she’s asleep. her beautiful eyes are closed and she’s breathing softly. i quickly get undressed and slide into bed with her.
there’s no way i can leave my baby alone in bed.
i wrap my arms around her, only for her to turn her back towards me and out of my touch.
she was awake.
tears threaten to fall from my eyes as i kiss her “i love you. so much baby.” and with that, i grab my stuff and walk out.
she’d probably want me on the couch anyways.
``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
fuck. my head is pounding and i feel like absolute shit. i sit up holding my head reaching my hand out to his side of the bed.
oh.
he isn't here.
whatever. didn't want him here anyways.
i think.
i step into our large bathroom and start a shower and as i’m rinsing the disappointment off my body, i almost miss the soft opening and shutting of a door.
was that in here? is that him?
he hasn’t said anything yet so neither will i. i turn the shower off and wrap myself with a towel and yank open the curtain shocked seeing him sitting on the toilet. waiting for me. i lock eyes with him.
mistake number 1.
he looks like shit.
eyes swollen and heavy with guilt, slight, no- very obvious red flush across his face, and tear-stained cheeks.
“baby please” is all he says when he rushes infront of me, blocking the exit.
ignoring his presence seems to be impossible.
“what do you want nanami” i say coldly, my gaze not daring to meet his.
“i am so sorry beautiful. i am so. sorry. there’s no excuse and no other way to express how sorry i am." he starts. "sorry can’t and won’t cut it. i love you and i do care about you. just so much. i’m so happy you’re in my life and i never regret marrying you, i only regret the mistakes i’ve made." he stops and takes a small breath. "you should be my number one priority. i’ve been terrible to you. i will do anything and everything for you.” he says desperately and tears streaming down his face. he’s crying. he’s sobbing actually trying to apologize. i finally look up at him with water-filled eyes.
before i can say anything, he pulls me in tight and is breaking down. “i-i’m so sorry sweetie i’m so so sorry-“ he can’t barely speak without sniffles. i’ve never seen him like this before. i wrap my arms around him and when i do he releases a sigh of relief.
“oh thank god” he says quickly before pulling me in even closer.
“did you mean it?” he asks, his voice quivering. “w-what you said las- night”
i take a second to think before answering. what’d i-
oh.
my heart drops.
“plea-please tell me you didn’t. r-right? you didn’t ’mean it?”
i look up at him, his lips are trembling and his face is red.
“no, i didn’t. i shouldn’t have said that. i’m sorry ‘min.”
“o-okay because if you did i- i wouldn’t know what to- to do. i’m sorry you can get changed n-now ill be waiting for you in the living room, okay love?”
“okay.” i whisper as i watch him turn around and shut the door.
i finally finish my post-shower duties and walk out of the bathroom.
is that.. apple pie im smelling or am i going crazy?
i must’ve taken forever because by the time i get out there, he’s knocked out. but he’s knocked out on a cute blanket laid across the floor with a box of my favorite donuts, a bottle of orange juice with 2 glasses, and-
an apple pie cinnamon candle buring away.
he set this all up as i was sleeping?
as if on cue, he slowly opens his eyes staring at me staring at him and the cutest set up ever.
i sniffle “did all this for- me?”
he stands up and softly grabs my hand to come sit with him, “of course doll. look”- he says grabbing the TV remote
“we can even watch our favorite movie.”

“Ready Mi Amor” “Always”
they/them prns but reader wears skirts and stuff  this is for: @kitybur
Tumblr media
A checkered flag was in each of their hands as Yn stood between a green and a navy coloured car, clothed in a black leather skirt and checkered cropped top.  "ready" Yn asked the green car, which revved in response, "ready" Yn asked once again, and the navy car immediately responded with a rev of the engine. Yn whirled around on their heels and raised the flags above their heads before letting their arms fall behind them.
Yn felt as the cars raced by them, sending the flags flying in the wind. Yn walked off the track, their heels clicking on the pavement, and  shot a peek over to an orange car, the driver leaning against it, a somewhat taller boy wearing leather orange shorts with fishnets, an orange cropped hoodie, and an oversized leather jacket with the letter S on the shoulder,'must be the drivers flagboy,' Yn thought.
"Hey, you're new here, right?" Yn didn't have a driver yet, which is why they were dressed in black and white. Whoever won this race was your driver, which is how it worked here. "How'd you guess?" Yn questioned, turning slightly to see a male with short wavy brown hair dressed similarly to the other flag boy, but in green and with a D on the sleeve instead of a S. "you're wearing black and white even I could tell that and im colorblind." Yn couldn't help the giggle that fell between their lips.
"Look, I'd start cheering for my driver, but I don’t believe you'd want to share," the boy continued, Yn could clearly tell he was British. The cars started to returned. "So Green's your driver?" he nodded "Oh, I'm George or Gogy," the man said with a smile. "I'm Yn or Yn," Yn smiled. George laughed, "no nickname yet?" "Not yet Gogs," Yn said, shaking their head and smiling. "Quackity's in the lead," George remarked, glancing at the track, making Yn look to see that the navy car was a bumper ahead. "Quackity?" Yn inquired, glancing at the male who nodded "Alex Quackity and my Driver is Dream."
"Does Quackity have a flagboy or girl?" George shook his head, "always turned them down." Yn dropped their shoulders, "but he won't turn you down." Yn raised an eyebrow and looked at George, who had a slight grin on his lips. "How do you know that?" Yn inquired as both cars accelerated. "He didn't start off well since he was looking at you," George continued. Yn rolled their eyes and mumbled, "yeah."
At the finish line, the navy car circled around and parked just where it started, with the green car close behind it. "DREAM!" George exclaimed as he dragged Yn to the car. As the car door slammed open, George giggled. When Yn turned around to look at the other car, the door was still shut. George and Dream (DNF ;) ), who were flirting against the green car, didn't notice Yn approached the navy car, knocked on the window, and stepped back as the door opened.
A man appeared in combat boots, black jeans, a navy shirt tucked in, and a chain dangling from the belt loops. "I guess I'm your flagger now," Yn remarked, their eyes fixed on his boots. "Well get in then," Quackity said, leaning on his open door. Yn dashed to the opposite door and slipped in.
Quackity rushed in and slammed the door shut before speeding away, just in time as sirens began to vibrate around the track. "So what's your name flagger?" As he drifted around a bend, Quackity asked, making Yn giggle. "Yn," Yn said quickly, loving the speed a little too much. Quackity slowed down beside a building, where the orange and green cars, as well as a red, burgundy and purple one, sat. Quackity parked his car and got out, causing Yn to trail closely behind him. Quackity stopped causing Yn to collide with his back, telling them "head up" Yn nodded and straightened their back.
They entered the building and climbed a set of stairs. Yn was instally hit with laughing and conversation. Yn cast a peek around the room. A pink haired male sat with a blonde boy, a brown haired male wearing a burgundy beanie sat with a girl with firey red hair, and a girl with purple hair sat with a pink haired girl on her lap; the orange driver and his flagboy were flirting in a corner.
Quackity dragged Yn into a room and began tossing navy clothes at them.
----
Yn sat on the hood of the navy car before yet another race, this time with flaggers allowed to join the driver, and the crowd was large today, with people taking pictures of the flaggers and cars.
"Yn" When Yn heard Quackity's voice, they sat up a little. "Get in, we're up," he said. Yn smirked and slid off the hood, brushed off their navy shorts, and adjusted the leather jacket, a slight smirk found its way onto Yn's blue stained lips.
"Ready mi amor," Quackity said as he revved his engine, "always," Yn responded with a huge grin as they slipped into the seat and stared into the mirror as they licked a raspberry lolliepop.

“2020, and with it COVID-19, caused severe strife and strain in many people’s lives. Whether the loss of a loved one or a job, or financial issues, it was definitely a tough year. For some of us, though, 2020 didn’t create any problems that weren’t already there, whether obvious or hidden beneath the surface. It simply magnified these issues and forced us to deal with them. Personally, 2020 was the year that my severe mental illness caught up with me.
“I’ve suffered from severe depression and anxiety since I was 16 years old. Now at 33, I’ve battled this often misunderstood disease for more than half my life. Somehow, even with several bouts of depressive episodes, I managed to power through. I completed a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, 200-hour yoga teacher training, and then two pregnancies. I got really good at compartmentalizing my mental health issues: stuffing everything away, not really dealing with anything, and then just living life in survival mode. No big deal. Nothing to see here.
“Growing up, while most little girls dreamed of having babies and getting married, I fantasized about becoming president, a lawyer or a doctor. By the time I reconnected with my now-husband in late 2014 (we knew each other in high school, and I had a huge crush on him when I was 15), I had resigned myself to being #foreveralone. I had two dogs, and a budding social work and yoga career. I was fine. But life obviously had different plans for me. Really, it’s no surprise that my transition into motherhood and marriage has been challenging.
“Fast forward to February 2020, when I told my sister-in-law and another close friend that I was feeling suicidal. My daughter had just turned 1 in September, and I felt like I was finally coming up for air after a brutal year navigating life with an infant and toddler, and again, living in constant survival mode. Robbyn (my sister-in-law) and Lori (my best friend) immediately came to my house and talked me through what I was feeling, and made sure I was safe. The next day they checked on me and encouraged me to contact my psychiatrist, who had been treating me for antepartum/postpartum depression the last for years. I got set up to see her that week, and she increased my dose of Sertraline (generic Zoloft). After a few weeks, I could sense the darkness lifting.
“Then March and COVID-19 came along. I was working part time for Clear Creek ISD in League City. As the State of Texas came to a halting stop — businesses shuttering, schools closing for two weeks to ‘slow the spread’ and ‘flatten the curve’ — I found myself stuck at home, alone and isolated from family, with a 1 1/2-year-old and nearly 4-year-old. April was grueling, as the virus was still so new and so much was unknown. We were not visiting anyone outside of our home. There was nowhere to go and nothing to do. Finally, at the end of the month, I took my kids on a walk to our neighborhood park. I felt so nervous and judged for letting them on community playground equipment. But my sanity was starting to falter. Something had to give.
“By May, I had to call in reinforcements. My mom and stepdad became my saving grace. Every two weeks, they picked up my kids and gave us a 24-36-hour reprieve. Don’t get me wrong, I love my children. But I was never cut out to be a stay-at-home mom. I am happiest when I’m working and putting my skills to use. So I was slowly dying inside each day, at my children’s beck and call.
“The school district was having us attempt to work from home. That meant I was on Zoom through March and April, while my kids screamed in the background. Then I had to stay up late to answer emails and complete documentation in peace. It wasn’t working for me. It was too stressful, and my productivity was nonexistent. My colleagues and boss could tell. So I turned in my two weeks’ notice and left my position by the middle of May. I began assisting with screening stations at the entrances of the hospital where I also work, as my regular assignment in the case management department was forced to reduce usage of PRN staff. My dad watched the kids so I could go to work two or three times a week, which I looked forward to doing. We powered through the summer months, finally getting used to the ‘new normal’ of social distancing, mask wearing and, for the most part, staying home.
“At the end of August, though, something in me snapped. We had moved into a new home at the end of July (in hindsight, moving in the midst of a pandemic, during the second wave no less, might have been a poor choice). We were struggling with an ant infestation at our new place. One day, as they were marching through our garage, inches from the door to the interior of our house, just a feet from our pantry, I flipped out. My husband and I got into a massive argument over buying ant poison. I stormed inside and locked myself in our bedroom. I was sobbing and struggling to catch my breath. I felt completely out of control. I knew something had to change, and fast. I was either going to hurt myself or someone else. So I texted my best friend, Lori, and told her how I was feeling and that I was contemplating checking into a mental hospital. She encouraged me to pack a bag and go. And that’s what I did. Without saying another word, I packed a bag, got into my car, and drove across Houston to check into Houston Behavioral Hospital. I was shaking and nervous to go inside. But I finally mustered the courage to get out of the car and enter the building.
“While I was going through intake, answering questions from the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (an assessment tool that I was familiar with as part of my line of work), I started to feel like I had made a huge mistake. Anxiety set in, and my mind starting racing. Did I really want to do this? Was I just being dramatic? Who would take the kids to preschool the next day? Crap! Their nap mats are in my trunk. The mortgage is due, and I’m the only one with the login info. I wanted to tell the staff never mind and just leave, go home, and pretend like everything was OK. I decided to call my husband and let him know where I was and that I was about to be admitted. I told him I would have to turn off my phone and turn it in to be locked away while I was in the hospital. He told me to do what I needed and take care of myself.
“‘Take care of myself.’ What a novel idea. So many times, the needs of women and mothers are placed on the back burner. We take care of everyone and everything else, and we are left with very little energy or time to tend to our own health. It’s a tragedy and an American epidemic. No paid maternity leave, no paid partner/spousal leave, and very little postpartum care/follow-up allows room for a whole crop of issues to arise.
“So 2020 was the year that I finally started taking care of myself again. I can’t be a good mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend or employee if I’m silently suffering, and placing my needs and health at the bottom of the totem pole. It took a pandemic to finally get me to this point. But I’m getting the help, healing and support that I need in order to be the best version of me. I’ve made it my mission to share my story as often as possible to help reduce the shame, guilt and stigma associated with mental illness and with seeking help.”

NASCAR lineup at Atlanta: Starting order, pole for Sunday’s race without qualifying
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The starting lineup for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway was set by applying the statistical formula NASCAR is using for the majority of the series’ races in 2021.
NASCAR returned to the formula after holding qualifying at Road America last weekend.
Drivers’ starting positions for the Quaker State 400 (3:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, TSN, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) were based on four factors:
Driver’s finishing position from the previous race (25 percent)
Car owner’s finishing position from the previous race (25 percent)
Team owner points ranking (35 percent)
Fastest lap from the previous race (15 percent)
NASCAR is conducting qualifying and practice for just eight Cup Series races in the 2021 season. The remaining sessions will be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in August and at Phoenix for the season-ending Championship 4 race in November.
Below is the starting lineup, which was set without qualifying, for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race on Atlanta Motor Speedway’s 1.5-mile oval.

Who won the pole for the NASCAR race at Atlanta?
Chase Elliott will start from the pole at his home track. The Hendrick Motorsports driver is coming off a dominant victory at Road America on Independence Day. The win was his second of the season, both on road courses. The 2020 series champion is searching for his first win at Atlanta; he has one top-five and four top-10 finishes in six career races at the track.
Kyle Busch will be to the outside of Elliott on the front row. Busch came home third at Road America despite starting from the rear. He will be seeking his third win of the season.
Series points leader Denny Hamlin will start third. Hamlin does not have a win yet this season, but he does have 14 top-10 finishes in the first 20 races. His lead is just three points over Kyle Larson, however. Larson will start sixth.
NASCAR starting lineup at Atlanta
NASCAR used a mathematical formula to set the starting lineup for Sunday’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the Quaker State 400 presented by Walmart, without qualifying. Thirty-seven drivers were entered for the race.

NASCAR at Daytona results: Christopher Bell muscles past Joey Logano to win on last lap
Tumblr media
Another week, another blown lead by Joey Logano.
A week after Penske teammate Brad Keselowski wrecked him in the final stretch of the Daytona 500, Logano again led with just laps to go in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 253 road race. There was no crash this time, but Christopher Bell — making only his 38th career start — muscled past him heading into the final lap.
Neither racer had issues with the infield, bus stop or frontstretch chicane, but Bell, who was near the front of the pack for a good portion of the race, was able to hold off Logano for his first-ever Cup Series win.
MORE: Watch today’s NASCAR race live with fuboTV (7-day free trial)
Logano wasn’t the only racer who will rue the way Sunday’s race played out; Chase Elliott, who led 44 of 70 laps, also likely regrets that his run of dominance on road courses ended. The race was his to lose with 14 laps remaining, but he pitted for rain tires; he lost several positions on the restart — Logano stayed out — then had to fight from spinning out in the grass. His race was essentially finished after he spun out fighting for position with five laps left.
It’s his first road course loss in five races.

NASCAR at Daytona live updates, highlights from road course race
All times Eastern
6:20 p.m.: And there’s the final chicane. No problem. Bell wins the O’Reilly Auto Parts 253! It’s his first win in 38 career starts.
6:19 p.m.: Bell gets the bus stop, no problem.
6:19 p.m.: They’re back on the oval. Logano has the bus stop and frontstretch chicane to make his move.
6:18 p.m.: And Bell takes the lead on the frontstretch chicane heading with the white flag waving! This could set up for a fantastic finish.
6:16 p.m.: Bell is aggressive in his pursuit of Logano heading into Turn 6 of the second-to-last lap. He’s .24 seconds off the lead.
6:15 p.m.: The Fox telecast reports light rain on Turn 4. That should make for an exciting final three laps.
6:13 p.m.: Briscoe has some damage and limited visibility. Either way, it’s Logano, Bell, Kurt Busch, Hamlin and Keselowski in positions 1-5, respectively. Logano has over a two-second lead on Bell.
6:09 p.m: Bad luck for Elliott; he had a chance to fight for first place but got hit from behind by Hamlin, forcing him to spin off the track. No caution, but he lost too many positions to truly challenge with just five laps to go.
6:08 p.m.: Elliott, meanwhile, is up to fifth. Logano is way out in front, however.
6:06 p.m.: Now Kyle Busch is in the wall. Lots of action on the front stretch; no caution.
6:05 p.m.: Kyle Larson is the next driver to sustain damage, spinning out into the tire wall. He can drive off but he sustained pretty significant damage by the look of it. Eight laps remain.
6 p.m.: LaJoie’s car is in the pit getting some percussive maintenance. Looks like Elliott may have got a little unintentional comeuppance against him:
Caution is for Corey LaJoie. Haven’t seen a replay yet, but Chase Elliott just said: “Didn’t mean to wreck him. I don’t know exactly what he was doing.”
— Jeff Gluck (@jeff_gluck) February 21, 2021
5:58 p.m.: Scratch that: Caution No. 8 is out. Elliott, who has led the majority of laps today, is now in 10th with nine laps remaining. He has some damage to the front of his car.
5:57 p.m.: Truex Jr. is a little loose heading into Turn 1, hitting Bell and causing him to spin. But there’s no caution as the field manages to evade him.
5:50 p.m.: Looks like Reddick sustained damage from hitting the grass and taking out a sign. Elliott, surprisingly, gained a position.
5:49 p.m.: Reddick and Elliott both have issues heading into Turn 2; Reddick’s car is on fire, while Elliott had to struggle not to spin out after getting pushed onto the grass by LaJoie. Caution No. 7.
5:45 p.m.: Logano, Briscoe and Kurt Busch are in the top three heading into the restart, followed by Chris Buescher and Corey LaJoie in fourth and fifth. Elliott is 15th, and Bell is 12th. Still plenty of laps to race, but will they regret pitting?
5:44 p.m.: Elliott, Bell and a big portion of the field pit for rain tires. Logano is among those who remain out.
5:39 p.m.: And there’s a caution flag — sixth of the day — for the weather. Fourteen laps remain.
5:36 p.m.: There was a brief deluge of rain on the speedway, but no caution yet with 16 laps remaining. Elliott and Bell still lead, but the rain has lightened up considerably. NASCAR may put a weather warning into effect.
Pit crews are preparing rain tires as it starts to rain at Daytona. It’s light, but definitely falling, according to a few reports on the scanner. #NASCAR
— PRN (@PRNlive) February 21, 2021
5:31 p.m.: Now both Elliott and Bell pit with 18 laps remaining. They both exit without penalty and maintain their positions.
5:28 p.m.: Elliott and Bell are playing a game of cat and mouse as neither pit with 20 laps to go. They’ll need to pit here in a few laps.
5:19 p.m.: Elliott is still comfortably in the lead with 23 laps remaining (but Bill in hot pursuit behind him). He has led 34 of 47 laps.
5:08 p.m.: And now Kurt Busch hits Keselowski from behind him, forcing the latter to spin out.
5:07 p.m.: Elliott retakes the lead heading into Turn 1.
5:06 p.m.: Bell, Elliott and Truex Jr. make up the top three after Kurt Busch’s mishap.
5:04 p.m.: There goes Kurt Busch’s lead; he hits the curb coming out of Turn 3, causing him to spin out and slide through the grass all the way to Turn 5. He’s now in 25th. No caution.
5:03 p.m.: And now Kurt Busch takes over the lead position in Lap 38. Elliott moves up to fourth.
4:59 p.m.: Daniel Suarez, DiBenedetto and Kurt Busch take positions 1-3, respectively heading into the restart. Elliott is at sixth; Hamlin and Bell are fourth and fifth.
4:52 p.m.: Good portion of the field pits under caution on Lap 36.
4:48 p.m: Denny Hamlin wins Stage 2, with Elliott coming in sixth. Here are the other top-10 finishers for the stage:
Denny Hamlin wins Stage 2. He has three playoff points now because he swept the first two stages last week.
Others getting stage points:
2. KuBusch 3. Logano 4. Bell 5. Truex 6. Elliott 7. Byron 8. Custer 9. No one (Allmendinger doesn’t get points) 10. KyBusch
— Jeff Gluck (@jeff_gluck) February 21, 2021
4:46 p.m.: Martin Truex Jr. locks up heading into the frontstretch chicane, losing a couple of positions. in the process. No need to pit, however. And now Elliott’s right on his rear.
4:43 p.m.: And there’s Elliott climbing the positions; he’s now seventh.
4:42 p.m.: Bubba Wallace’s car locks up and he’s forced to pit; no caution necessary.
4:38 p.m.: Allmendinger, Kevin Harvick and Kyle Larson take the top three positions in the restart; Elliott starts at 11 but falls back to two positions to 13th.
4:37 p.m.: Chastain’s day is finished.
4:33 p.m.: We’re on Lap 13 of 18 in the second stage; a good portion of the field, meanwhile, pits under caution.
4:31 p.m.: And now Tyler Reddick’s car has slowed to a crawl on the oval. Not sure what the issue is there.
4:29 p.m.: We’re under our fourth caution as Ross Chastain’s car hit the wall coming out of Turn 6. He was 20th at the time the yellow flag waved; he has some damage to his car — looks like his suspension — but is able to drive off. Now he’s trying to get to pit row as quickly as possible without tearing up his car.
4:24 p.m.: Keselowski, 11th, misses the backstretch chicane and had to make a stop. He lost three positions and is now 14th.
4:15 p.m.: No issues for the field in any of the first six turns out back onto the oval; racing’s getting a little smoother.
4:13 p.m.: Elliott, Logano and Hamlin hold the top three positions heading into the restart.
4 p.m.: Elliott picks up right where he left off on road courses, winning Stage 1 handily. Here are the other drivers who earned points:
Chase Elliott easily wins Stage 1 at the Daytona road course.
Others getting stage points:
2. Logano 3. Hamlin 4. Keselowski 5. KuBusch 6. Larson 7. Truex 8. ADillon 9. Harvick 10. Buescher
— Jeff Gluck (@jeff_gluck) February 21, 2021
3:54 p.m.: Christopher Bell is first coming out of the restart but Elliott quickly jumps back out to the lead with just three laps remaining in the stage. Keselowski and Joey Logano — who were at the center of the Daytona 500 crash — are behind him in the second and third positions, respectively.
3:47 p.m.: We’re under our second caution with five laps left in the stage; Brad Keselowski’s car seemed to lock up, resulting in a flat tire. Matt DiBenedetto suffered considerable damage to his car as well.
3:42 p.m.: Elliott, meanwhile, has a notable lead over second-place Hamlin; 4, going on 5 seconds on Lap 10.
3:41 p.m.: Brief moment between Ryan Blaney and AJ Allmendinger as the latter brake-checked Blaney on the oval.
3:35 p.m.: Chase Briscoe falls to the rear after spinning out on the frontstretch chicane; the entire field pretty much had to take evasive maneuvers around him as his car sat idle. No caution, though; he wheels around and continues racing.
3:31 p.m.: And we’re back on Lap 4 of 70. Chase Elliott, Austin Dillon and Denny Hamlin are in the top three positions coming out of the caution.
3:27 p.m.: One lap in and we’re already under caution for debris. Kyle Busch is in the pit getting some work done on his car; McDowell is also getting his car looked at.
3:21 p.m.: Michael McDowell is the first driver — but not the only one — to overshoot Turn 1. The Daytona 500 winner loses position immediately. Kyle Busch seems to have sustained some damage to his front right tire as well.
3:13 p.m.: It’s about that time.
NASCAR race start time today
Date: Sunday, Feb. 21
Start time: 3 p.m. ET (Green flag at 3:20 p.m. ET)
TV channel: Fox (TSN5 in Canada)
Live stream: Fox Sports Go | fuboTV (7-day free trial)
The green flag for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race on the Daytona Road Course is scheduled to wave at 3:20 p.m. ET.
Although NASCAR will race on the Daytona Road Course on Sunday even if it gets wet, there still will be weather-related threats: If the rain is too heavy, if there is lightning in the area or if there is too much water on the course. The weather forecast for Daytona Beach, Fla., on Sunday is partly cloudy skies, temperatures in the mid-60s and about a 15 percent chance of precipitation.
NASCAR at Daytona starting lineup
The starting lineup for Sunday’s race on the Daytona Road Course was determined through a mathematical formula NASCAR adopted late in the 2020 season. The same procedure for setting lineups without qualifying is set to be used for the majority of races in 2021.
The formula produced this starting lineup for Sunday’s NASCAR race on the Daytona Road Course:

Atlanta Thoughts:
While it doesn't make for exciting TV (racing will never be as malleable as stick & ball sports), I enjoyed today's race. It was a classic Atlanta International Raceway-type race. Atlanta never featured much side-by-side racing, especially for the lead, until the '97 repave. There were some classic finishes during the first ten years of the fresh asphalt. Kevin Harvick, Jamie MacMurray, Jeff Gordon, Bobby Labonte, Dale Earnhardt, Kasey Kahne all won exciting races with daring, rim-riding passes out of T4. Old Atlanta was known for cold, overcast races, spread out fields, long green flag runs, heavy tire degradation, and few cars on the lead lap. Today fit perfectly into that mold.
 I watched via NASCAR Raceview which features in-car cameras and a "Battle Cam" that focuses on deep-back pack racing rather than the top-5 along with the livestream from PRN. It was great watching these guys earn their keep, as they were sawing at the wheel all day long. Those cars were thrashed by race end. Not like they were at Daytona, rather the noses looked sand-blasted and smeared from dirt, minute debris, and melted tire rubber.
The past two Atlanta races have reminded me of AMS races of old. Again, probably not very entertaining in the TV model, but that's the medium's fault, not the on-track product. I was happy to see Keselowski prevail. Also glad to see Larson have another good run, as well as Elliott too. Earnhardt, Johnson, and Kyle Busch were absolute junk. Once again Harvick and Kenseth were their own worst enemies. Lastly, depending on what kind of racing you like, there could be good news: "In wake of driver pleas, Atlanta repave to be reconsidered"

NASCAR notebook: Bell enjoys Charlotte Road Course debut
CONCORD, N.C. – Mission accomplished for Christopher Bell.
Sep 29, 2018; Concord, NC, USA; NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Christopher Bell (20) and Cole Cluster (00) during the Drive for the Cure 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports
With a victory at Richmond in his pocket and a berth in the second round of the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs guaranteed, Bell was perhaps the only driver who approached Saturday’s Drive for the Cure 200 — the inaugural race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course — without fear of the great unknown.
Divergent pit strategies handed Bell the race lead on Lap 27, giving him the chance to win Stage 2, which ended on Lap 30, and collect a Playoff point.
“We had one goal coming into here, and that was either to win stages or win the race,” Bell said. “Our bed was kind of made there in the second stage whenever we decided to stay out and win the stage.
“We got our stage point, which will help us in the next round. We didn’t win the race, but that’s OK.”
Bell finished fifth as his close friend, Chase Briscoe, picked up his first victory in the series.
“I really enjoy running the race track — it’s a really unique race track,” Bell said of the 2.28-mile, 17-turn course. “The infield is really slow and slick, so you have to finesse it, and the backstretch chicane is really fast, and you have to attack it pretty hard.
“You get the best of both worlds, and I had fun. I wish it was a little easier to pass — a few more passing zones would be nice — but it was a lot of fun to turn laps on.”
NASCAR TAKES SOME TEETH OUT OF BUS STOP TIRE BARRIER
The barrier at the exit from the backstretch chicane (Turns 11 and 12) at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course was a different type of Tire Dragon.
A far cry from the machine designed to lay rubber on the asphalt during track preparation, the Tire Dragon in the Bus Stop gobbled up cars with regularity during Saturday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series practice sessions at the 2.28-mile, 17-turn course.
Early in Saturday’s first practice, Bubba Wallace plowed into the barrier, destroying his No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Chevrolet and forcing the team to go to a backup. Playoff driver Erik Jones was another casualty, bouncing off the tires and clobbering the outside wall of the oval.
Another mangled wreck, another backup car.
After NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying, the sanctioning body opted to remove five feet of the tire barrier to give drivers more room at the exit. That doesn’t mean, however, that the corner is now defenseless. The “turtles” (six-inch-high steel rumble strips) at the exit can upset a car that takes the corner too wide.
“It’s less treacherous,” said Martin Truex Jr., who topped the speed chart in final practice. “You’ve got about two feet of wiggle room, so if you screw up, you can just hit the turtles and not that thing.”
SHORT STROKES
In Saturday’s first practice session for tomorrow’s Bank of America ROVAL 400 (2 p.m. ET on NBC, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio), the No. 41 Ford of pole winner Kurt Busch lost power and stalled on the track, requiring a push to the garage from a safety truck. The crew diagnosed and fixed an electrical issue, and Busch, who will retain his starting spot, was sixth-fastest in final practice…
For its 50th anniversary next year, Sonoma Raceway will use the full road course for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race. Instead of running directly from Turn 4 to Turn 7, the NASCAR cars will have to negotiate Turns 5 and 6, including the 200-degree sweeping carousel. The addition of Turns 5 and 6 extends the 11-turn course from 1.99 to 2.52 miles. Mark Martin won the last NASCAR race contested at the 2.52-mile distance in 1997.

Charlotte Weekend Preview
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The magic behind Kevin Harvick’s "magical" season start may surprise some people.
Of course it takes driving talent, a motivated crew and a smart and innovative crew chief (Rodney Childers), but when asked about the secret to the Stewart-Haas Racing No. 4 Ford team’s success, Harvick conceded it was a less-tech and a whole lot more from-the-ground up, good people, deep roots kind of kumbaya.
Like an artist beginning on a blank canvas with a masterpiece inspiring each stroke, the Harvick team was given free will to create a winning operation and it has already resulted in the 2014 championship and put them in prime position as championship favorites this season. Seven times in the past nine years, Harvick has finished first, second or third in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup championship.
The present day team boasts a series best five wins – only 12 races into the 2018 season, collected the Monster Energy All-Star trophy last week and is looking to earn its third consecutive points-paying victory in Saturday night’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway (6 p.m. ET on FOX, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). It would be the second three-win streak already for Harvick this early in the season.
"Our team, our 4 team in general, is a little bit different than probably most teams because Stewart-Haas Racing allowed us to build it," Harvick explained shortly after celebrating his All-Star victory Saturday night.
"We didn’t have anything. We hired a crew chief. We courted Rodney [Childers] for, I don’t know, seems like a year and a half, whatever it was. It was a long time. We got that piece done first. Then it was, okay, now you need to go hire everybody on your team. He was on gardening duty, so he got to go and interview every person that was on the race team to start with.
"We got a brand new tractor and trailer. Every nut and bolt in it, every car was built to the specs that blended together with what he wanted and what Stewart-Haas had, the Hendrick relationship at the time.
The methodical approach, with a huge nod of trust between Harvick, Childers and the Stewart-Haas Racing team management has been nothing short of remarkable. And judging by the success this season, only getting stronger.
Harvick has three wins at Charlotte including two Coca-Cola 500 wins in 2011 and 2013. He has nine top-10 finishes in the last 10 races here, including two wins and three runner-up finishes. His victories at Dover and Kansas along with his win in last Saturday’s All-Star race make him the absolute favorite on the grid Sunday night.
And best of all for this team, they can say they have come by this success by doing it "their way."
"Everything on our team was built around what we wanted," Harvick said. "That’s not normal. I think as you look at a lot of situations, you’re going to have guys that are going to go into a team. You’re going to get a few of these cars a few of these cars, we’re going to give you a couple guys from over here.
"That’s not the case. When you look at it, young owners, we have a group of racers from top to bottom inside and out that love to race cars. That’s all they want to do. They don’t care what color your shirt is, how many buttons are on it. Just show up and do everything you can to win the race. That isn’t normal in this garage.
"I think as you look at that environment that has been created, it’s just about racing. Everybody’s input, everybody’s involved. It’s a special place to work. For me, it’s the same scenario. It’s the right people, right situation. We all have a lot in common. We all have kids, are similar in age. There’s not a generation gap from our ownership group or management or crew chief. If I told Rodney, I’m not going to be at the meeting today, I’m going to watch my son’s baseball game, they would say, ‘Have fun.’ If I’m going to watch my kid play football, baseball, basketball, you have the opportunity to do that, that’s rare. That’s not something we all get to do.
"That’s the type of situation that for me, I just feel like it works. We all respect each other. But we all have a lot in common."
XFINITY SERIES RETURNS
The NASCAR Xfinity Series returns to competition Saturday with the Alsco 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway (1 p.m. ET on FS1, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) after a two-week break in the schedule. Elliott Sadler continues to hold a hefty 38-point lead over rookie Tyler Reddick in the championship standings.
The series is on an amazing string of new winners – a different driver has hoisted the trophy in all 10 of the season opening races and should a new driver win Saturday, it would be only the second time in series history it has seen 11 different winners start the year.
Sadler is hoping he can be the 11th driver to add to the win streak. It’s been over a year – since Kentucky in September, 2016 – since he’s won. Yet the crafty veteran has put together an amazing mark of 10 top-10 finishes to date.
Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Next Race: Coca-Cola 600 The Place: Charlotte Motor Speedway (Charlotte, N.C.)
