RadPower RadMini 4 Collapsable Ebike

Pretty much every bike in North America are Wheel Runner.  They are designed to athleticism.  This is basically the difference between a sport motorcycle and a cruiser.  Commuter bicycles are a lot heavier, with a more relaxed profile.  The heavier weight makes them more robust and more balanced.

The RadMini is an incredibly large bike, but I’m and incredibly large man.  I have trouble finding things that are big enough for me.  Anything, really.

The RadMini weighs 60lbs, and collapses into an incredibly small package.  It has 7 gears, and 5 Petal Assist settings.  There is a throttle like on a motorcycle, but the best way of using it is by pedalling.  Whenever you start pedalling, the power kicks in at whatever setting you have it at.

PAS1 is needed to make up for the weight of the bike.  With 2, I can reach 20-30kph on flats without much effort.  Once I got up to speed, once I was putting so little effort into it that I forgot to pedal.  Not a gliding, but I it was just so easy that I forgot I was pedalling.  3 is good for hilly areas, like around where I live.  4 and 5 are for carrying a lot of weight, or mountain climbing.

This is really nice, as you always have power.  Even if you can’t pedal, like when you are leaning into a turn.  Even when you’ve maxed out your gears, but don’t want to go to the higher gear.  You always have power available.  The gearing is incredibly smooth, and with PAS2/3 you can start in third gear without any issues.

I charged it to full, (though not balance), and 18km down, and I lost about 1 of the 8 bars.  The highest range it lists is 78km.  So, it’s definitely not a long-range bike, but definitely a good commuter.  Ridiculously fun to use.

When it collapses, it gets a lot smaller, which is good for storage, but it’s still pretty awkward to carry.  Weirdly, the collapsable one is cheaper than the other ones, and looks much more balanced.  The break joints are incredibly robust and have redundancies.

The breaks are also incredibly robust, (for a bike), which you really need to a bike this big and powerful.

The biggest problem is how idiotic cities are when it comes to bike.  There’s a path beside the railways, and enough side streets that I can avoid most of the major roads.  They are so eager to add bike gutters, when a single 100m path would let me completely avoid the major roads.  They also want bikes to constantly dismount.

RadPower Mini Follow-up

Don’t try pushing it up a steep hill.  That fucking killed me.

And the fun I’m having while riding is inversely proportional to the time I spend near major roads.  Which is why adding bike lanes to highways just makes life worse for everyone, including cyclists.  We’ll get to the bike lanes actively trying to kill the cyclist later, but for now, let’s make road.

4 lanes in each direction, even though this doesn’t help traffic flow, at all.

So, 7 lanes.  Now let’s add a bike lane.  Bike lanes about half a lane each, so 2 bike lanes would turn it into an 8 lane road.

So, our four lane road is now an eight lane road, and pretty much all of them are a chance to get smashed by a bike, so, you dismount, and walk.  Because making our cyclists dismount and walk half of the time is a idiotic idea in the first place, but now they have to walk across 8 lanes.  Having pedestrians have to walk across 8 lanes is ridiculous enough as it is, nevermind having to dismount your bike to cross a road.

So, here’s our road.

And here’s what we can do with it.  

Far less roads to maintain, which smart traffic controls we can increase the throughput and prevent stop-and-starting.  But, now let’s get onto bike lanes actively trying to kill the cyclists.

Best Electric Bike For Hills: Steep Means Nothing!

I start riding an electric bike 4 years ago when I purchased my first e-bike kit. It was fun at first but later I recognized it’s limitations.

First of all the quality had problems and you need to fix most of problems on your own. Besides my e-bike look ugly like hell.

Those problems didn’t stop me as I already know e-bike is my way of transportation from now on.

Later From a crowdfunding campaign “kickstarter” i purchased my first purpose built electric bike Sondors. The bike look like a beast with fat tires I totally fall in love with it. But gradually I recognized it’s problems such as weak motor and entry level components such as brakes, gear and weak controller.

When I decide to move to San Francisco I feel it is a good oppurtunity for me to upgrade my e-bike. I had several products in my mind such as Tern, Radpower and pedego.

My plan was to sell my car and Sondors e-bike and with those funds I will buy a nice electric bike and start my dream of car-less life in San Francisco. 

Even I love design of Rad power I don’t want to own a hub motor electric bike as they don’t have the hill climbing skills that I am looking for. Anyway I again give it a try and unfortunately in most hills I was disappointed.  I ALREADY MADE MY MIND THAT I WON’T BUY A HUB MOTOR E-BIKE.

At this point things become easier for me because Pedego also automatically get out of my options.  

I give a try to Tern Vektron which was an amazing electric bike. I did several test rides and I was bought. 

Only issue was they didn’t have a brand new one in store in New Wheels and they refused to make a discount to me for their demo unit.

Then I look for other options and Haibike Radius seems a good option. When I was going to place order I saw video of Court on Electric bike review about Ariel Rider m-class.

Ohh man the bike had everything I was looking for and maybe more.

It is mid-drive, hydraulic brakes, internal hub gear, small and lightweight. Perfect electric bike for climbing hills and keeping in my condo. 

And price point was below my budget :)) And I ask for a discount and lucky i got a extended fathers day discount.... It is always good to ask for a discount. Nothing to lose

The difference of hill climbing skills of a hub motor and mid-drive motor is like day and night. You can’t even compare. My Ariel Rider mid motor climbs any hills even when i carry some grocery without any issue.

Will update as i get/use it. I'm sick of my knees giving out on the ride home because my fucking dad decided we should live on top of a hill that's just long enough and at just the right angle for my fucking knees to fucking die.

Thankfully i found a seller that ships for free nationwide called RadPower Bikes. And they are well reviewed.
