Rainbows are actually... circles. The centre is directly opposite the position of the sun in the sky this is called the antisolar point. A full circle is visible from a higher vantage point, usually a plane and is sometimes called a ‘glory’.

COTLTOBER DAY 6 - "Ritual"
You get what you give, you reap what you sow-
I just think using a dance to trace the blood runes for a ritual would be pretty~
#Random note the smaller circles have the alchemy sigils for Water and Earth-the lamb is doing a Harvest Ritual! I wanna talk about the toe
You know, the scene where Fujisawa squeezed Sei's injured toe!
In the first episode, Kaori stated that a broken nail was actually a simple fracture and really just needed a little care to strengthen it.
Which is exactly what she did for Sei
But just like everything else in this show, this discussion isn't about a toe. The toe could be about the embarrassment we feel, so we continue to suffer even when an easy fix exists.
And it could also be about the true source of pain.
Kaori and Fujisawa are not bad people, and the show hasn't presented them as such, but Sei questioned if Kaori was aware of how upset Hagiwara was about the growing distance in their relationship.
Then the show immediately answered that question through Ayako's testimony. Kaori isn't just aware; she's happy about their situation.
Sei also asked what Kaori didn't like about Hagiwara.
And the show answered that as well. Kaori doesn't like that he is a man.
They aren't broken. It could just be a fracture. And there is an easy fix. But instead, they continue to suffer.
Then there is the actual toe, which is Sei's toe. He hit his foot on the table, in the house of a man who designs furniture.
Yet Fujisawa is rarely home.

Sei hurt his foot after Fujisawa avoided their conversation, and Fujisawa hadn't been home or spoken to Sei since, which is why he barely found out that Sei had hurt his foot after dinner. Then, he immediately squeezed the toe.
Regardless if Fujisawa designed the table that Sei accidentally walked into, he was part of the reason Sei was in pain. And at first, I felt he wasn't to blame and thought he didn't even notice. But just like with Kairo, he is aware. And he keeps doing it. He squeezed Sei's toe. He just heard the story about how it was hurt. He was looking directly at the toe. And. He. Squeezed. It. He wasn't even gentle when taking off Sei's sock.
Sei excuses the behavior and tells him it doesn't even hurt anymore, but this is the basis of their entire relationship it seems. Fujisawa does something that hurts Sei, and Sei lets it go. It's a vicious little cycle.
Once again, the show hasn't painted anyone as the villain, yet Sei has specifically stated multiple times who he thinks is a "good man," and it isn't Fujisawa.
During this scene, Hagiwara questions Sei about what Fujisawa does for him that makes Sei want to be nice back to him, and the only thing of substance Sei offers is that Fujisawa agreed to live with him.
He states Fujisawa is patient with him, but Fujisawa also demands he never meet up with his pen pal. Sei also states that Fujisawa concedes often, yet the friend they just encountered stated that if anyone wanted to speak to Sei, they had to go through Fujisawa.
It's all very normal behavior due to the circumstances. None of it seems malevolent. And yet Fujisawa wasn't interested in Sei's foot until Sei mentioned that he spoke to his co-worker who asked his girlfriend to look at his foot. Then, he squeezed the toe, which is an odd reaction. Or is it all very normal behavior due to the circumstances?
Sei doesn't have friends. He never attended the work dinners before. Yet now he is going out for dinners, has a co-worker whose girlfriend helped him, has another co-worker who is a bit afraid of him and he finds it funny, and a pen pal who has a girlfriend who he chats with through an email account that just happens to be Fujisawa's name and birthday.
Which reminds me of this co-worker and her wild story.

The woman is in a bad relationship. She is aware that she is in a bad relationship. There is an easy fix. But she doesn't leave.

Everyone, including Kairo and Fujisawa, are very aware of the situation that is unraveling in their relationships, but nobody wants to apply the easy fix. They are avoiding the issues and causing more suffering. Which is strange because Sei and Hagiwara have been shown to take responsibility and fix problems.
So why doesn't Kairo tell Hagiwara that she isn't sexually attracted to him anymore when he tries to initiate sex? Why doesn't Fujisawa tell Sei about his feelings (of jealously) instead of squeezing his toe? Because the easy fixes require communication, and they refuse to communicate, which is why this entire relationship between Hagiwara and Sei extended beyond one email.
Because it was never about the toe.

#when it rains it pours#futtara doshaburi#if someone squeezed my toe like that knowing it was injured‚ I'd kick him#but it was never about the toe#it's about the complete lack of communication#it's about avoiding the easy fix#it's about extending the suffering because they don't want to acknowledge the pain#the show might not be saying anyone is bad#but it is stating someone is good#and that's the most interesting part#because now I'm glaring at Fujisawa as he stands outside of my circle of trust#that was an odd reaction#and I think both Kaori and Fujisawa are a lot more aware then they lead on

It didn't start at the museum....for Hagiwara.
At least I personally don't think it did.
Sei is the one that says it started at the museum.
For Sei, that is true.
They had both been developing an emotional connection through e-mail. In e-mail, they were vulnerable with each other. Hagiwara is the one that turned the conversation sexual, but they both engage.
However, the emotional connection didn't mirror what was happening in their physical connection with each other. In real life, they saw each other very differently before the museum.
Before the museum, Sei thought of Hagiwara fondly. Sei gives a small smile when thinking of him. However, he used the same child analogy that Kaori did. He's amused. He didn't see him sexually at this point.
Sei sees Hagiwara as a coworker. Sei notices Hagiwara, but it always comes back to work. He offers to help, but there is nothing in his words to convey anything more than Sei being amused by a coworker who has a tough job. Sei does recognize Hagiwara's effort. It's why he offers to help.
However, Hagiwara definitely saw Sei in a sexual fashion prior to the museum encounter.
That smitten look he had when he first saw Kaori?
He may not realize it, but he gives that look to Sei pretty frequently. He follows Sei with his eyes. He tracks his movements. He's intrigued. Sei's eyes do not follow him.
He leaves a group of coworkers when the conversation was ABOUT him to follow Sei to the bar. He initiates conversation with Sei.
He's the host (and supposedly a very good one), but he follows Sei around ignoring everyone else for a good while. He tells everyone else to get home safe. He pursues Sei in the rain. He tries to share the umbrella. Sei pops up his own. He's offering. Sei isn't taking.
He offers to send Sei a rain app (symbolism I see you). But even if you are not obsessed with symbols, Hagiwara asks Sei to go with him to another bar. None of the other coworkers. ONLY SEI.
Hagiwara has sexual thoughts about Sei. ONLY SEI (besides Kaori). Unlike Sei, he doesn't relate any of his thoughts about Sei to work.
He thinks about Sei a lot period. There are actually several dialogue points where he refers to things he had thought about Sei. But the most notable is probably during the entire walk with the umbrellas. They only talk about Sei (and Fujisawa). Hagiwara initiating mostly.
Sei answers Hagiwara's questions, because he's an incredibly blunt and straightforward person. Sei never asks Hagiwara any personal questions here. He didn't care to know Hagiwara deeper at that point.
Hagiwara offers to buy Sei a cup of warm, fresh coffee after returning the umbrellas. This is symbolism people. The coffee talks.
Once they are at the museum, Hagiwara reaches the statue first. He's already enthralled. However, it's at this point that Sei joins him. They sync up physically. Their movements begin mirroring each other.
Sei actually mentions sending the e-mail first. They sit on the bench together. They discover that the person they've been e-mailing is the man in front of them, and there is joy in that discovery.
The museum encounter changes how Sei sees Hagiwara. Hagiwara is inviting him to listen to the rain, and he now has the link to do so. He reconciles that the stranger he had been e-mailing was the physical man before him. I've ran out of images, but Sei's whole body posture changes on the bench after getting the link to the rain app.
When leaving the museum, Sei's eyes track and dwell on Hagiwara. It's the first time that happens.
Hagiwara invites Sei to dinner. This is the THIRD time he's invited Sei to something with just the two of them (if you count the coffee).
It's the first time that Sei accepts the gesture. (He refused to let Hagiwara pay for the coffee).
Sei now starts asking Hagiwara personal, sexual questions.
But Hagiwara? None of his behavior with Sei changes. It had already started for him prior to the museum. It just deepens.
That's not to say the museum isn't important for Hagiwara. It's VERY important. It's where they synced. It's where emotional and physical merged. It's where they met in the middle, and that makes it special.
I've now written WAY too much about this show. For those that want to read it, here's a master list. I'll keep updating it as I add new posts.
#the previews tell me#this will all come full circle#that makes me very very happy#my brain will be on nothing else until Thursday#I hit the image limit AGAIN#choices were made#japanese bl#my when it rains meta#futtara doshaburi#when it rains it pours

Remember i mentioned that the unnamed whaleshark scug had an iterator friend that was submerged underwater like a billion days ago in a tag?, this is she!! Her name acronym is DOTS and I think thats so cute for her. (I guess her alias is Drown ;;)
Obligatory sketch page under the break (+ more info on her???)
She was meant to be designed like her alt. Design, as a manta ray but slowly she turned more jellyfish-esque. Maybe I'll turn the draft into another iterator sometime.
Her structure is partially submerged underwater. Drown was built over a large water source. During construction, of which she was almost completed, perhaps due to an error, the legs of the structure collapsed. It caused her entire super-structure, her city and inhabitants above to plunge into the deep sea below. Those who survived were relocated to another city, and while attempts to rebuild/save her were discussed, no plans were ever detailed.
Some part of her still remains above water. She's still alive and does not rain as frequently as most iterators. Because parts of her are underwater, it does a decent job keeping most of her functions from overheating. However there are periods of time where she shuts off activity in some of her chambers to prevent from boiling the water around her. The area in her region is mostly foggy on account that her structure is not above the clouds, and while she may not always rain, she will produce some mist.
Drown is a veryyy late 1st gen iterator. Construction started maybe in early-mid 1st gen iterator era, but was dragged back and prolonged for various reasons (her location above/in water was inconvenient to build upon, for a time there were talks about relocating her entirely. Alongside the fact she started construction around the same time as Starless who was drafted upon ambitious goals and lofty expectations, and held more priority to completion). There had been great plans for her too, but the project was perhaps too big for the time it started in. Around when she collapsed (her almost completion) it would have already been around the mid 3rd gen era(around 30+ years or so).
Due to such a prolonged period of construction, there is definitely an amalgamation of old and new tech mashed within her. Which could explain why some things don't always function the way they're supposed to. The longer her construction dragged on, the less they cared about her... Even when her city was finally constructed, many of her inhabitants had moved in reluctantly. Her sight was already slightly impaired before her collapse but she never thought to ask for it to be repaired as that would just be another thing for them to throw into the melting pot, and she didn't need another reason to be scorned.
After her collapse, her vision is largely gone. She can perceive faint lights and shadows, but it mostly resembles that of heavy visual snow or static. Whaleshark scug brings her pearls and they accumulate in her can for a few cycles before she's able to start some of her functions again and read them.
There's probably a leviathan swimming around her structure...
#rain world#rw#oc#rain world oc#rw oc#iterator oc#raintarts#rw iterator#she has abandonment issues if you can believe it!!!!#whaleshark scug loves her very much#they visit at least once a cycle despite the leviathan circling outside#some of her citizens did love her#but they were a minority and were seen as being delusional or a cult#she doesn't really like Starless because he was everything she was supposed to be#and he got it all so effortlessly#and she hates that
