New-to-Etsy process art up and ready to ship, folks! In the Linktree as usual. Way back in 2018 I collaborated with the New Gallery Concert Series in Boston, Massachusetts to create artwork inspired by one of the chamber pieces composed for their January 2019 performance event. I worked with Carl Schimmel's piece, "An Illustrated Ontogeny of the Flower Snark" for clarinet and piano. A "flower snark" is not actually related to botany, Lewis Carroll, fetal development or sarcastic Internet commentary. Evidently it’s a name for a specific construct in graph theory, something which I needed to explore in order to really grasp what was happening. And then things just fell into place. One of the images in this post explains the graph theory aspect and also explains a bit about process art. A quick summation: these are process pieces, an art form where the artist composes a set of rules and then sees what kind of art is created by following those rules. Another image in this post has the rules I used to create these drawings. The interesting thing about process art is that the results are secondary to the concept: it's the rules and the process that are important. I would be amused and honored if anyone out there in InstaMETABookland decided to make their own graph theory drawings by following my listed rules. Please share if you do! There are 15 unique drawings, signed and dated, done in pencil and Prismacolor on 14" x 14" Mohawk Superfine paper. The pics show all 15 pieces in four grids; I will have each number listed for purchase separately, and when it's gone, it's gone. There it is... 1.59 grams of home-grown indigo powder. I'm pretty stoked! Of my seven woad plants, three bolted and two looked a bit scraggly, so this is an excellent result.
