I just remembered how MotB stole her custom robes at the beginning of the game cause I had just enchanted her starting robes and a well-meaning script went “oh no! this is a starting gear resref! Can’t play MotB with level 1 stuff!” and switched it out with idk robes of the yellow rose +4 or whatever. 

But here’s the thing: This means that, in-universe, she just never got new clothes from the Harvest Festival to the Final Dungeon. She walked into Castle Never on several occasions in these tattered, patchwork, bloodstained robes. They may not have smelled awful, cause I’m sure Sand forced her to stand still and let him cast prestidigitation or similar cantrips for the sake of his own poor nose, but let’s be real: Mending and Prestidigitation can only go so far, and there were nights where he looked over the campfire at her and despaired cause 3.5 doesn’t give you unlimited cantrips and he had to use his spell slots on Khelgar or someone instead.

stg you are the fourth person to ask me what his voice is like. fine. FINE I will ATTEMPT TO DESCRIBE A VOICE (I have no idea how to do this)

1. His VOICE

It is none of the voice sets in ANY of the games I play. This is the first problem. The second problem is elven aging is sort of AMBIGUOUS so I have no idea if smol nwn2 Arizan should have his adult voice yet? Does he have to deal with it cracking during the Trial of Ember? I DON’T KNOW and it BOTHERS ME.

Anyway, it’s not that deep regardless. Wrong fandom, but the vocals at the beginning of this song are a good approximation of how I imagine his singing voice. He’s pretty quiet. Not one for shouting or yelling or screaming. Which is part of why none of the soundsets are any good at ALL (there’s one in one of the Baldur’s Gate games that has a sort of almost-giggly “Your wish?” as a selection sound, and that’s as close as I’ve gotten. But I think I decided nothing else in that set worked. Ari is troublesome.)

man idk. How do you describe voices when you don’t have a nice easy example to point to. I can say with confidence that he doesn’t have the Drow accent, though. If he did have something left over from before he was 5, it would have Ched Nasad’s inflections. Esmerelle dropped her names when she left, but I don’t think she bothered to switch to a different city’s dialect when she had reason to use her native language.

After the City of Judgement, his accent is all over the place. Araman’s influence left a pretty strong Thayan hint to it, though. and depending on how self indulgent I feel, Hallistra might have given him his Ched Nasad Ilythiiri back

9. his theme

Aesthetic wise: Generic doomguide. He latched onto Kelemvor’s faith with a WILL. I actually filled out an aesthetics meme for him, so here, a link.

Music wise: the link has a few songs on it. In the End is my go-to battle song for him post-City of Judgement. Sanctuary is on his playlist, but I go back-and-forth on how well it fits depending on the day. Someday I’ll go through the MotB soundtrack and chose a few that are his, but that’s hard, because Kash has claimed so much of that. Heroes and Thieves is good for nwn2.

25. Why you enjoy him:

He is small and accidentally cute and overly serious and ridiculous. I also like Kelemvor far too much, and he provides an outlet for that.

If anyone’s fought fiends with Arizan and come across one that recognized him and called him the Twice-Betrayer, then. They probably got a fair amount of the story.

Because “I got forced into a crusade against Kelemvor and then turned on the crusade at the first opportunity” really just raises more questions.

Okay, so, question. If it has been that long the NW gang has been together (which is really sad, for Ari :

Hum. That’s a good question. It probably depends on the person? So the short answer is “You tell me what you think they know.” Mine + some general stuff below the readmore

Eladyna was POSSIBLY involved in Luskan’s fight with Ruathym circa NWN2, because lol, aiding the tiny island against the pirate navy sounded hilarious, give her ALL the guerilla naval warfare plz. And then she might have made her way to Neverwinter/Crossroad Keep when Ruathym heard the Tome of Iltkazar was floating around there. So she probably missed Ari that time, but would have heard all the stories before time corrupted them, and probably made the connection within a few days of knowing him.

Angien has an Information Network, and it involves Ari’s conman companion. They figured it out. Ladrian got it confirmed. But it’s Ari’s business, so they don’t do anything (apart from Ladrian occasionally joking that he and Ari should make loads of gold from it somehow. Ari is not impressed.)

Ela and Angi probably don’t know much about Rashemen, though. Just that Thayans were involved in his disappearance, and that he didn’t stay in Thay. Because if he had stayed in Thay, he would have fought Szass Tam or died trying.

Ranthyr doesn’t really care tbh. He knows Ari’s been to Thay and stayed long enough to learn the language and some of the magical theory, and assumes he has/had friends there. He also knows Ari was born on the surface, is from the Neverwinter area originally, and is older than Vel. But his lore skill is not so high.

(Anyone who’s worked on the Dread Ring campaign boons probably knows that Arizan can speak Thayan/has a basic grounding in Thayan magic. Because he is willing to help, which tbh explains how Ranthyr got all the boons)

(Anyone who’s gone to the Shadowfell with Arizan probably knows that he was somewhat familiar with the Demiplane of Shadow before Shar threw the negative energy plane into it)

Eymar… idk. Depends on how self-indulgent I’m feeling. Her parents were not rangers, so she had to learn from someone. It would probably be ridiculous to say Daeghun was involved. Unless I want to say that her mom knew Daeghun from adventuring days. Which would mean she probably also knew Esmerelle, though not necessarily by that name, because Ari’s mom wore names like clothes. But if I go the incredibly self-indulgent route, Arizan’s probably told her a fair amount, because she probably glared at him all “you had so better not be an impostor, explain yourself.”

But uh. ANYWAY. As for everyone else - if the Stronghold is Crossroad Keep, Arizan probably gets mad and frustrated at the Steward on a fairly regular basis, and knows the interior suspiciously well. If Shandra’s portrait survived all this time, he refuses to let anyone discard it, even if it’s (probably) in very bad condition. Same with any books in the library, but Ela’s got his back there. He is very vehement about the Builder not disturbing any gravesites, but, like, he’s Arizan, of course he’s vehement about that.

THAT SAID he’s even more reluctant to come right out and admit he was the Captain of this place for - however long NWN2 lasts - and doesn’t really want to spread his Knighthood around. Because if the Steward has such an issue with names, he doesn’t want to know what he’d do about learning that particular title. And he doesn’t trust Neverember to let him keep running around freely if he learns that Arizan was knighted by Nasher. He REALLY doesn’t trust Neverember if he finds out that Nasher offered him a place in the Nine, even if he turned it down.

So he doesn’t volunteer the information, but he’ll confirm guesses and ask them to keep it quiet. He definitely hasn’t had some sort of guild meeting where announces it to someone.

and for MotB and onward - “I disappeared because a red wizard abducted me to do something for her. And then I served my god away from the Prime for several decades. If it becomes relevant, I’ll tell you.” It became relevant to Shearah, so she knows.

He’s reluctant there because living in the City of Judgement is honestly kind of blasphemous, if less so than setting a soul-destroying parasite free to prey on Toril. Also the less faith/fear anyone has in Myrkul, the better. Also the less people who know how the Betrayer’s Gate is opened, the better, even if the Sword is locked away in Eternity’s End.

He might bring up Rashemen if there’s a reason to reference spirit gods, hags, dreamwalking, or anything in the Ashenwood. And it might come up somehow in the feywild, if that one Shevarashi questgiver isn’t enough to explain his discomfort there. But it’s kind of a hard story to just sit down and tell (and probably even worse if Gann or Safiya have died and gone to the Wall in the meantime tbh)

No but really. Saoirse’s terrifying, but relatively chill when she’s not punching someone or something. Arizan’s terrifying, but also a ball of nerves most of the time. Kash is terrifying and unpredictable, but also joyful and loving and merciful sometimes when she feels like it. Taros is a necromancer who has spent the last decade or so convincing me that he can reasonably be described as an eldritch abomination in mostly humanoid form, but he’d honestly be happy just hanging out in his little out of the way village only devouring people who were stupid enough to threaten it. And I have several children of the dead god of murder. So.

Z: Already tried to answer this, but going off the idea that this can mean “gleefully geeks out over something unexpected”: Aerdeth (aka stoic cleric of Helm) and Marianne (aka wizard and Proper Young Lady) bonding as they both get very excited about the needlework on a tapestry in some ruin somewhere.

Krie (gnomish bard girl) thinks it’s adorable. Dusk (thief, kind of in love with Marianne) is fondly bemused.

Ferrus (huge tiefling fighter with giant sword) doesn’t even notice because there are BOOKS OVER HERE IT HAS BEEN SO LONG SINCE HE HAD A NEW BOOK.

Gardrim (wild elven ranger, also wereowl) is fretting by the door because yes, this is all very nice, but can it wait until we know there are no monsters waiting to stumble across us on patrol?

Donan likes talking to his friends! Donan does not know how to actually get anyone to listen to him, though.

K so actually-an-adult!Arizan might go above Donan because he actually is more socially competent, but nwn2!Arizan would rather hide than talk to new people. NWN2!Arizan would actually rather hide than talk to his friends sometimes. And older!Ari is more used to talking to dead people anyway, which probably makes conversations awkward sometimes.

AHAHA by what standards, though

Arizan gets to live in his god’s City for at least a century so he wins. I even headcanon that he gets to eventually get Akachi out of his soul DESPITE not doing enough to get that ending from MotB, so. Definitely winning. I think.

I remember Verwan being REALLY GOOD at the whole Knight-Captain thing. Like, she had the natural leader background feat. And she has successfully managed to avoid me giving her terrible headcanons, so there’s that.

Saoirse made it back to Neverwinter after MotB to resume fulfilling her oaths and, like, didn’t even leave behind too many regrettable consequences from her actions in Rasheman. Except One of Many. But I’m pretty sure she and Safiya could have taken care of that, if whatever her corresponding Storm of Zehir party is didn’t do that for her.

Kash has convinced me to let her run away and start a community in the mountains somewhere for outcasts of various kinds, and she’s happy with that. So she succeeds, but probably has to fight a bit more for it, cause idk. People are threatened by communities of discontented outcasts.

If Lili has ambitions, I don’t really know about them?? But I think she’d be a bit more sad about not getting to tear down the Wall of the Faithless than Kash was, cause Kash mostly just went into that to fuck shit up rather than to actually accomplish anything. IDK she made it home and probably found cute halfling boys to fawn over her, so she’s happy. Also she has wings.

Donan does not have wings. Donan has two party members that he might be in love with? But Donan has been missing West Harbor ever since Daeghun made him go to Neverwinter, and I really don’t see Safiya permanently abandoning Thay. IDK about Gann. So basically I still don’t know what I want to headcanon Donan doing after the game, but there’s gonna be compromises somewhere and guilt about protecting the damn Wall with no assurances that Kelemvor’s gonna look kindly on his companions when they die.
