( BRIANNE HOWEY , 33 , SHE/HER , CIS WOMAN ) - have you seen IMOGEN BARTOWSKI?  they’ve been living in everwood for THEIR ENTIRE LIFE and they still don’t know the truth. people say that they’re GENUINE but i heard they’re WILLFUL. you can always find them at LEO’S GARDEN or working as an OWNER OF NANA’S KITCHEN. rumor has it they are a SHIFTER (FLYING SQUIRREL) and MEMBER of the SHIFTER COMMUNITY but i wouldn’t dare to ask them. a few things that remind me of them are … fresh cut flowers in eclectic planters, dreams of soaring through the air, the familiar hum of a country classic, family recipes and secrets written in polish, a strong woman raised by other strong women

Since Leo is your fav what your opinion on the rest of the boys? If you don’t mind my asking I am just curious I been trying to find blogs that don’t act like Leo raph hate each other because they have differing opinions on stuff. They are siblings siblings be like that like ya know?
Hello! When it comes to 2k3 and Rise, I love all the turts very dearly. I just tend to fixate on my top blorbos, haha. I assume you're specifically asking about the 2k3 turtles, so I'll talk about them! When thinking about Leo and Raph's relationship, this extract from Leo's bio usually comes to my mind.
Tumblr media
(Transcription: While I often disagree with Raphael, he is my brother, and I enjoy the times that we spend goofing off. I just wish that he'd try to see things from some other perspective than his own (something he no doubt says about me as well!)) I think it was originally showcased on some official 2k3 tmnt website. You can read the whole thing here. I'm super fond of this bit, because I think it sums them up very well. It's just very down-to-earth and peaceful sentiment. Leo acknowledges that yes, Raph can frustrate him a lot, but he loves him and spending time with him anyway.
AND the "something he no doubt says about me as well!" Has kind of stuck with me since the first time I saw it. Leo's like; "Yeah, I get it. I can be a pain in the shell too." And I don't think he vocalizes this sentiment, in these kind of terms in the show.
The 1st season sets up a lot of Leo vs Raph rivalry, with Leo being the responsible one and Raph rebelling against that. They have the big clash in 2nd season City at War arc. In SAINW universe they're basically on "It's On Sight(however impaired)" -terms. The 2007 movie with it's Leo&Raph drama often bleeds into 2k3 fanworks. So I get where the fanon interpretation of them hating each other comes from. I just feel like it often gets blown out of proportion. Most of the time those two get along well and rely on each other.
And since you asked how I feel about the other turtles, I'll try to summarize here what I love about them, haha! I adore 2003 Raph, because he's so damn hilarious. The gruffiness, deadpan sass, feral troublemaking, the " oh for FUCK'S SAKE!!" -energy. He has this special flavor of being so done with everything, all the time. It's so funny. And then there's his calmer side. When he's mature and reliable, a fierce protector <3.
2003 Donnie is hands down my favorite Donnie ever. His gentle, soft-spoken nature, patience and kindness are so special. He's such a sweetheart! A silly boy! But he won't let you walk over him! He'll sass and shoot you with a lazergun!
I'm a huge fan of 2003 Mikey's portrayal. Because he's the classic fun-loving imp, who loves to cause trouble and goof around, but he's also very down-to-earth. He's really resilient, competent and mature when the situation calls for it. Despite his own dramatics and his brothers often teasing him, he feels trusted and respected.
Overall I appreciate how well written the turtles are in 2k3. They are very grounded, complex and multidimensional, with a lot of depth to them. And the way you get so many different dynamics with different brother combos, is endlessly fascinating.
Anyway's hope you enjoyed my ramblings. Thanks for the ask!

Me: "I've made a few Ghost OCs, but not a lot... wait..."
Me, looking back: "Uhhh..."
Tumblr media
Actually that's quite a few... A lot of these are initial and/or introductory sketches to the characters/more recent redesigns, so they've changed a bit here and there, but I would say Lamb and Bea are the ones who have changed the most from their original designs.
Out of the lot of them, I've done the most with Quincy, Jeremy, and Lamb, with an honorary mention of Vespera, because she doesn't have a proper design.
You can very much see what shapes I lean towards when drawing/doing sketches, but I feel like you can more or less tell who is who/that these are all different people, so that's a win on my part I suppose.
Their mini bios under the cut, since it's a little long.
Bea: One of the abbey's groundskeepers, comes from a rough home situation, and doesn't trust others easily.
Jeremy: A custodian at the abbey, who was turned into a ghoul against his will by another branch of the church.
Klee: A resident ghoul of the abbey who has lost most of his memories.
Quincy: The abbey's newly hired librarian, who may or may not have a thing for monsters.
Timeo: Like if you turned a cat into a ghoul, he's a very anxious guy.
Alluvium: An axolotl, plain and simple, she doesn't really have much to say.
Raphael: A priest who may be a half demon, either way he's kind of weird.
Lis: The kind of guy who would give you the full up and down glance, huff, and then walk away if he didn't like you.
Lamb: Like if you gave a glowstick emotional trauma and they just sort of went, "Yeah, that was crazy."
Brother Elijah: The father you needed growing up, smells like graham crackers and gives warm hugs.
Guy: Have you ever been filled with rage, but you can't scream, so you act out impulsively instead? Yeah, him, too.
Alma: Barbie with religious trauma who can swing a shovel faster than you can run away.

MIDDLE AGED MUTANT NINJA TURTLES MASTER POST!!!
Table of Contents:
Synopsis
Line Ups
Protagonists Bois
Other Major Characters
Mini comics (in chronological order)
Other Links
Okay cool now that that’s out of the way, I’m putting all of this under a cut lol.
Synopsis
Middle Aged Mutant Ninja Turtles (MAMNT) is a tmnt au created by @hamburgrr and myself! The premise is simple:
After a brutal attack from the Shredder, resulting in both his own and Splinter’s death, the Turtles drift apart. They go their own seperate ways— Mikey traveling the world, Donnie perusing academics, Raph retiring to a quiet life, and Leo moving in with (a happily married) Casey and April to continue to protect New York. However, nothing can last forever, and after nearly thee decades of silence, a new evil has begun to threaten the Hamato Clan yet again.
Can this family heal its broken relationships? Or will do many years of Turmoil prove to difficult to heal from? What have they even been doing this entire time? Find out in MAMNT!
Line Ups:
Tumblr media
Time period: Mid 90s ish
Tumblr media
Time Period: Late 90s ish
Tumblr media
Time Period: Late 2010s - Early 2020s ish
Protagonist Bios (in order of Age):
Tumblr media
April O’Neil
April O’Neil isn’t exactly what you’d call normal. She’s got four turtle brothers, a vigilante spouse, a genius of a daughter, and isn’t exactly human herself. April is an empath— able to feel other people’s emotions through touch. This, along with a few other psychic abilities (minor telekinesis and VERY minor mind reading abilities)— while useful— can be very overwhelming. As to why she has these abilities…. Honestly, she’s not sure. Just was born with them. April is charismatic, kind, and very rambunctious. When it comes to her family, there’s nothing she isn’t willing to do.
Check out April’s design notes here!
Tumblr media
Casey Jones
By night Casey Jones patrols the street, taking down anyone that has the nerve to cause shit in their city. By day though? They’re a stay-at-home-Dad/building mechanic with a mean recipe for mac ‘n cheese and the most supped-up car on the block. Just the way they like it. They may be a little trigger happy, but at the end of the day they are a creative, scarily loyal, and fun-loving dude who’s maybe alittle too proud of the family they’ve found for themself. They’re a meathead with a left hook you do NOT wanna mess with, but a good person.
Check out Casey’s design notes here!
Tumblr media
Hamato Michelangelo
Mikey is a little bit lost, to be honest. He’s been for most of his life— but usually pretty happy for it. He’s been traveling so long without direction that actually having a mission is a little bit….. scary. In general, Mikey is a very chill, level headed dude just looking for a good time, and even better company. He’s charismatic, maybe a little immature, but very brave when it matters.
Check out Mikey’s design notes here!
Tumblr media
Hamato Donatello
Donnie does not have time for this. Between his job as a Biologist, raising his own unruly teenager, and hiding the fact that he is a giant mutant turtle from just about everybody in his life, saving the world isn’t that high on his list of priorities. That being said, if it involves his younger brothers… he’ll go along with it. Despite his cold disposition, Donnie is a genuinely kind, loyal, and deeply caring individual. He is very hard working (sometimes detrimentally so) individual, and enjoys gardening, good music, and minor biological warfare.
Check out Donnie’s design notes here!
Tumblr media
Hamato Raphael
If there’s one thing Raph wants, it’s not to be here. Over the years she’s cooled from a spit-fire youngster to a tired, kind of grumpy lady. She has a life she’s made for herself that she genuinely enjoys, and being dragged away from it to save a city she doesn’t even live in anymore is…. Tough. But once you get past that wall she’s put up, you’ll find a deeply compassionate, laid back, and protective person. You’ve just gotta get there first.
Check out Raph’s design notes here!
Tumblr media
Hamato Leonardo
Well…. He’s holding on. A lot of bad shit has happened in Leo’s life; but he’s made a point to get through it all with a smile and a shrug. Even if it has left him a touch lost in the past…. This is not to say that everything in Leo’s life is doom and gloom though! He’s got what remains of his family close, a job he loves, and a boyfriend who helps keep his head above the water. Despite it all he’s a genuinely optimistic, passionate, and clever dude who will do anything if it means keeping the people he loves safe.
Check out Leo’s design notes here!
Other Major Characters
Oroku Karai (the Shredder) - To put it simply: Oroku Karai is a vengeful bitch. She’s got a strong sense of fairness in the world, and once she feels she has been slighted she will deal it back tenfold. Unfortunately for her enemies she is also calculating, precise, patient, and incredibly loyal to those within her inner circle. All the makings of a very VERY dangerous woman.
Baxter Stockman - Stockman can be described simply as a bastard. As head of EPF (a position he wormed his way into and dumps the intense work off onto his personal assistant Dr. Chaplin) he is in an annoyingly decent position of Power. He is vain, cocky, and admittedly, very intelligent and determined.
The Kraang - The Kraang are a pretty massive threat, if not a slow one. Not much is known about them, as they are a very recent threat, other than that they are very, very dangerous. And they, for some reason, seem REALLY interested with April.
The Dark Turtles - The Dark Turtles a new threat. They are made of up of Four members: Venus De Milo, Jennika, Slash, and Tokka. Their exact motive is unknown, but for some reason they seem to really, really not like the Turtles.
Agent Bishop - Agent John Bishop is EPF’s local conspiracy nut. Despite their low ranking (their office is litterally in the basement), they will do ANYTHING to learn the truth of what happened to them. Even if thst means taking matters into their own hands….
Baron Draxum - Baron is just a formality really. Draxum these days is a stuffy old goat who wants nothing more than to sit in his library and catch up on some reading. Honestly the dude needs a break considering the heights of his career include ‘disgraced biologist’, ‘villian of the week’, and ‘owes a lot of child support’.
Casey Jones Jr - Casey Jones Jr has a lot to live up to. But!! She’s well on her way to becoming just as great a hero as her parents and uncle (even if they won’t let her go on big missions yet)! Right now she’s functionally the team’s ‘man in the chair’ thanks to her skill with computers and robotics!
Miyamoto Usagi - Miyamoto Usagi was once on the track to becoming his world’s greatest Samurai. Key word: once. These days he just does odd jobs and is working his way towards a degree in history. It’s ok though, he’s learned to be much happier than he once was here.
Splinter - Splinter was a loving father, and someone with a lot of secrets. He lived a hard life, and because of that was maybe a bit to over protective of his sons. While he certainly had his issues, over all Splinter was a very loving, kind, and funny guy. He was very loved.
Oroku Saki (also the Shredder) - Oroku Saki was a spiteful, cruel, ignorant man. He cared little for the tradition of his clan, ruling over his faction of the Foot Clan purely for the power it gave him. Little can good can be said of him, aside for that he was smart, resourceful, and genuinely loved his daughter.

For the KC Ask Game!
Raphael: 8, 10, 11, 29
Lazare: 2, 5, 10, 20
Ziel: 10, 12, 14, 19
Nym: 19, 26, 27, 29
Damn spyri, that's a lot of asks hehe. Thank you so much ! (Since there's no universe were I could picture Nym being the KC, I've chosen to answer his questions on other characters :))) RAPHAËL :
8. What do they desire the most?
Answered there!
10. What would be the meal that give them a little ability bonus?
Hmm... Though choice. Raphaël enjoys good food, but he's not very picky. Anything well cooked and tasty enough will please him. However, I'd say the spicy pastry will be one of his favorite as he really likes anything spicy really. And because it's funny: The Demon Slayer Soup, something he refused to eat as a kid because soup=yucky ... Until his mother started calling it "Demon Slayer Soup", then he was sold, and he's still into it as an adult. "Eat your soup to grow big and strong to fight demon" He remembers his mother's words every time he eats one.
11. For martial KCs, favorite weapon? For spellcasters, favorite spell?
Answered there! (short answer: scimitars of course)
29. What would their domains be after a potential ascension?
Answered there! (short answer: Martyrdom, Self Sacrifice, Duty, Devotion)
26. Did they separate from any companions? Why? (Consider killing a companion too for this question)
Wenduag and Camellia. RIP to both but Raphaël doesn't have time for your bullshit.
19. How did they feel during their time in the Abyss?
Out of place. He was miserable. Being Lawful Good in the Abyss was hard enough like that, but Raphaël is a hell-spawn, his tiefling heritage coming from Devils and not Demons. At best, he has ties with a Lawful Evil plan, and being in a Chaotic Evil one was hard for him. His Lawfulness his natural to him, and his Goodness is an ideal he sets from himself, striving to become a better person everyday. Being in the Abyss was a challenge for him as he was trying very hard to not just lash out at every scenes, actions, events he deemed terrible.
LAZARE :
2. How do they feel about Areelu Vorlesh?
Answered there!
5. Do they have a family? If so, what kind? Do they miss them? Do they still have hope to see them again?
Lazare is the son of a noble Chelish man of the Jeggare family and an Andoren half-elf prostitute.
Of course, he wasn't really planned. His mother was even in denial of her pregnancy until his birth. Not being in the right state of mind to raise a child, but still not wanting to abandon him, she and her colleagues decided to raise the child together.
So... Lazare was raised in a brothel by 12 women, all of them being his mother in his eyes. He's very closed to them, and he misses them dearly. Despite his surroundings not being a suitable environment for a child to grow up, he considers his childhood to be a happy one as he was loved and cared for, and he longs to come back to see his peculiar, not-so-little family again.
By the way, he only learns as a young teen which one of his mother was his biological one, and he didn't take it very well at first, feeling like he's been lied to. However, he has long learned to accept the truth, and understand his bio mother's choices, and he's just glad everything turned out well in the end.
10. What would be the meal that give them a little ability bonus?
I really think Lazare has a special feat called "sugar rush" that gives him bonus when he has just eaten sugar. He's really into anything sweet, so I'd say the Blazing Parfait and the Skullberry Pie!
20. Which event of the crusade traumatized them?
Answered there!
27. Favorite animal companion?
All of 'em! Lazare has place in his heart for all kind of animal companion… But he can't help but have a bit of a soft spot for the pipefox. It's just so goofy.
ZIEL:
10. What would be the meal that give them a little ability bonus?
I'd say a good Midnight Soup as it would make him feel all cozy, and an Acorn Pie as it would remind him of his father bringing him a lil pastry after his Church's office.
12. What is their alignment, and why? How do they feel about it? Do they change alignment at one point?
Chaotic Neutral. Ziel's very focus on his own survival, and he's just hoping to manage to get through his problems unharmed. He stopped believing in justice, laws, institutions and government when he was a teenager, and he's now often purposefully and almost out of spite causing chaos around him just to piss off guards and all. A "No gods, no kings, fuck you all" and "fuck it we ball" kind of mentality. He starts out very neutral, not very keen on helping people unless it really doesn't ask much. But really, he's just trying to survive in a city that's very hostile to him, and despite having been raised an Abadarite, he grew very bitter, even hating the church of Abadar after what they did to his faithful father.
He will not change alignment, but will go from very neutral to good leaning. I can't portray him as switching to chaotic good as he's still very much interested in the well-being of his closest friends and companions more than in the fate of the world, but he grows softer and more ready to help, leaving his older bitterness behind him and starting to embrace being a nicer person overall.
14. Which companion is their closest friend?
Ziel has always been quite a lonely boy as a whole. Not much friends as a kid, even less as a teenager as he was purposefully acting like a prick to push people away ("They can't hate me for what I am if they hate me for what I do"). It will probably take time for anyone to bring the tiefling out of his spiky shell, but I could see Sosiel managing to. Offering to paint his portrait would just make him laugh at first, thinking the cleric is just messing with him, but when he understands he's just being honest, he'll realize Sosiel just sees him as anyone else, and it's nice for a while. Sosiel would be like a big brother to him... And Seelah would be the big sister. He's essentially a little brother going through a phase, just needing a bit of help to become a better version of himself. He'd go along well with Woljif for OBVIOUS reason, as he would be the one endorsing his terrible ideas. Oh, and despite the lack of formal education past a certain point, Ziel's a very smart and curious lad, and he LOVES pushing Nenio as far as he could, ready to make things explode for the sake of "science".
19. How did they feel during their time in the Abyss?
Not good at all, and it's mostly because they're a pitborn tiefling. Ziel constantly felt like the Abyss were bringing the worst of him, and driving him crazy. Also, Ziel doesn't have much answer regarding his heritage. No one really does, anyway, or they never told him. His birth was a surprise, albeit an unpleasant one, but still a surprise. He doesn't know why he's a tiefling, and why he's ... Quite peculiar even among his own kind. He just settled for the explanation of being some kind of residual product of the corruption of the WorldWound despite feeling like it couldn't be just that. Like Woljif, being in the Abyss brought him the answers he never had and was desperate yet scared to have. Ziel learned his peculiar appearance and lack of information was due to the fact he's merely an experiment of some abyssal scientist who was messing around with demonic blood, mixing them before forcing it into an unborn infant to see what such a weird combination would produce. Ziel will kill them out of rage, and will be very close to lose his mind at such a revelation, feeling like he's nothing more than some messed up experiment, barely a mortal, and not even really his father's child.
Eventually, the only one who will be able to get him out of this state will be his father who will assure him that he really, really doesn't give a shit about it all, and that no revelation could erase the years they spent together and the fact he raised him.
29. What would their domains be after a potential ascension?
Misfits, Self-Determination, Individuality, Standing up for yourself, Perseverance. Ziel's journey is mostly about becoming proud of who he is and stopping to self-sabotage himself. He stops hoping for acceptance among people who will never accept him, and instead embraces who he is. He stops pretending to be someone he's not, both accepting his qualities and his flaws, and he learns to accept his more vulnerable side. After ascension, he'd be a figure people cast aside from society for any reasons could look up to, encouraging them to not look down in the face of adversity and to never settle for less, as well as pursuing their dream, fighting back, demanding to be shown respect, and reclaiming their place in the world

ROTTMNT x SR:US Crossover Human AU: Basics Intro
Bruh I keep making drabbles and oneshots within my own rottmnt x samurai rabbit human AU but never post any actual info or “lore” but it’s cus idk how to start?? Soooo I guess this’ll be like the concept plan? Idk I’ll just try to make this look organized so I can introduce the world I’m always writing about ε-(´∀`; )
AU Name: Crazy Little Thing Called Life
AU Summary: Take Rise TMNT and Samurai Rabbit into a crossover world where they’re just normal human people with no magic or mystics, just living and experiencing this crazy little thing called life (hehe) and just go through normal human things.
Characters (Older Adults): Splinter (Hamato Yoshi), Big Mama (Adeline Desir), Baron Draxum (Berry Powell), Usagi’s Auntie (Shimada Noriko), Hueso (Jacinto Gerrero-Vazquez), Foot Lieutenant (Fukunaga Kenji) Foot Recruit Brute (Tsuchida Kazou)
*sidenote that bc I’m making all the non-humans, well…human (:p) I’m giving them full names bc I’m extra like that so what’s in parentheses is what their names will be in my fanfics*
Characters (teens/young adults): April O’ Niel, Cassandra “Casey” Jones, Sunita (Sunita Modi), Gen (Murakami Gennosuke), Chizu (Ogawa Chizu) Kitsune (Shimada Kitsune), Yuichi Usagi, Frida/Venus (Frida Hamato), Raph, (Raphael Hamato), Leo (Leonardo Hamato), Donnie (Donatello Hamato), Mikey (Michelangelo Hamato), Mona Lisa (Mona Keke)
Race/Ethnicity
Bruh so this is kinda embarrassing but my brain got scrambled really bad every time I tried to organize it so I’ll just tell you guys in paragraph form (´ω`)
Starting off on the ROTTMNT side, the Hamato kids are blasian but only Raph, Mikey and Frida are half Haitian since I’m making Big Mama Haitian but Donnie and Leo aren’t since their bio mom was born in the U.S. Splinter is still Japanese lol and Draxum is Native American, specifically Cherokee. Hueso is Mexican and born in Yucatán (I will not elaborate any further or else I’ll never post this thing bc I’ll over complicate my answer), Casey is wasian with her mom being Japanese and her dad being a white American and Foot Lieutenant and Brute are her gay uncles and they’re Japanese too but Brute’s been in the US way longer than Lieutenant, April stays the same as a Black American and Sunita is blasian as her dad’s also a black American but her mom is Indian. Mona will also be in and I’m writing her as Polynesian Hawaiian.
Now with the Samurai rabbit side. This is pretty easy since they’re all Japanese BUT Chizu is half Filipino, Gen has Polynesian roots from his dad’s side and Kitsune is Ainu which is a small indigenous group in the north side of Japan. Usagi, his aunt, Hana and Kiyoko are mainlanders so they’re pretty “average” I suppose you can say even though it feels icky saying that given Japan got their issues when it comes to people they don’t deem as Japanese
Relationships
*adding deets on Splinter and his relationships bc it’s relevant for my new fanfic so I’m his is the one I’m only gonna reveal for now. But also I have another fanfic that’s set within this AU brewing in my head actually so what I wrote for Lieutenant and Brute is for future use*
Yoshi/Big Mama (past)
Legally married for nearly a decade but close to the end of their marriage they (more so Big Mama) opened their relationship so they could see/be with other people if they wanted to (Yoshi only saw 1 person and it led to Leo and Donnie to be conceived lmao)
Biological parents of Frida, Raph, and Mikey
Met the same way as they did in canon
Few years down the road Big Mama would later became Splinter’s boss for a bit since she got a huge promotion to be his manager (she’s just that girl ✨💵✨)
Were on bad terms for a while but for the sake of the kids learned to be civil with each other so they could healthily co-parent
Yoshi/Draxum (Current)
Started off as just a professional relationship as Yoshi hired Berry to be his personal chef since he was pretty much on his own taking care of the tots and cooking wasn’t really his specialty (spoiler, Berry wasn’t good at it either) and one thing lead to another and somehow Berry just stuck to the Hamatos since the tots saw him as their 2nd dad
They don’t want to label what they got going on but they do be cuddling each other most sometimes in bed
Homosexuals indeed
Yoshi/Dona (Past)
Had a rough introduction at the library after accidentally bumping into her and making her spill her coffee onto her shirt. She didn’t like that at all that it took nearly 2 months for her to forgive him
Started as just library buddies until she invited him out clubbing and then after series of events ended up in a friends with benefits type relationship
They were 30 and 29 when they had Leo and Donnie; Dona would’ve also been 30 if she hadn’t died a month before her birthday :( (yes I’m evil)
A lot of their hangouts consisted of them staying inside Dona’s studio, drink wine or smoke herb and vent about their childhood trauma with Depeche Mode or The Cranberries playing in the background
Yoshi didnt know Dona was pregnant until five months into her pregnancy when she finally confessed to him because she initially didn’t want to keep them but had no choice because she didn’t know she was even pregnant until she suddenly felt really sick and after a trip to the doctors found out she already close to her 2nd trimester already so she couldn’t get an abortion even if she wanted to.
There’s a lot more drama with them but I’ll just reveal that stuff in my future fics
In conclusion. Yoshi just has a thing for pretty and intelligent people who are mean to him and I think he’s so real for that 👍
Foot lieutenant/Foot brute
Met at a underground rock show in New York, (brute made the first move lol)
Moved into a studio together 3 years down the road and dated a year later
Initially took Casey in for a bit when she was 6 due to her and her parents rocky relationship but would officially gain guardianship over her 2 years later she threatened to run away if she went back with her parents
Younger couples included in this AU so far
April/Casey/Sunita
Raph/Mona
Donnie/Kendra
Donnie/Jonathan
Leo/Usagi
Kitsune/Chizu
And that’s pretty much it for now, geez I can’t believe I had this drafted for a whole 4 months :;(∩´﹏`∩);:

NeonLeon: I'm Hamato Leonardo and Donnie if you let him die Im going to take drastic measures against you. Also gay.
Magic_Mike: I'm Hamato Michelangelo! I like to do art and sometimes do commissions! I'm also the strongest magic user compared to my brother!
14 Casey Jones: I'm Casey Jones, I guess you can call me Case and I'm a cop.
Several people are typing...
A/N: I am picking up where I'm leaving off lol, also I'm messing with the timeline a bit so might make Raph 16, Donnie and Leo are 15 and Mikey is 14. Yes the Kraang shit has happened already. No I did not do this oldest to youngest (on purpose) so it's not accurate. And expect my short for my Peepaw project tonight.

TMNT Code 59
My original TMNT story.
I wanted to share the bios for the turtles real quick. Maybe next time, I’ll share bios for their allies.
Bios under the cut.
Leonardo is the 16-year-old oldest son and pupil of Splinter, as well as the older twin brother of Raphael. Despite his discipline in martial arts (his frequent clumsiness notwithstanding), he has a rebellious streak and longs to see the world and all it has to offer. Optimistic, stubborn, and hopeful, he wants to see the best in everybody, which worries both Splinter and his brothers. Despite these flaws, he still wants to be a good leader to his brothers, but struggles with balancing all their wants and needs. His biggest fear is letting them down, or even worse, losing them because of his own shortsightedness … and snakes. To his family’s everlasting annoyance, Leo is prone to sharing the corniest one-liners he can come up with, and he and Raphael like to compete in who can make the worst puns (unfortunately for Leo, Raph is winning). In his downtime, he enjoys sci-fi and samurai movies, gardening, reading, writing, calligraphy, and playing video games (Raphael won’t beat his high score if he can help it).
Raphael is the 16-year-old second son and pupil of Splinter, as well as the younger twin brother of Leonardo. Raphael has has a very bad temper. He often acts on his negative emotions before he has the chance to think. To his credit, however, Raphael has a strong moral compass, knowing exactly what he believes is right and wrong. Due to this, Raphael often plays the “straight man” in the team, calling out his brothers for their downfalls. Raphael is also very protective of those close to him, and even learned first aid to better look after them. Due to all this, Splinter believes that Raphael has the ability to take up the role of leader if something should happen to Leonardo. Out of all his brothers, Raphael is the least interested in human culture and has grown comfortable being a mutant turtle. He strongly believes that there’s nothing wrong with being different, and as a result has a soft spot for the outcasts of New York City, humans and mutants alike. Though he likes looking after others, Raph’s biggest fear is being alone … and bugs. Raphael is very sarcastic and enjoys cracking jokes every now and then, so much so that he and Leo have a “pun contest”. Raph is winning. In his downtime, Raphael enjoys working on vehicles, painting, boxing, playing video games, and spending time with his pet alien tortoise, Chompy.
Donatello is the 15-year-old third son and pupil of Splinter. Don knows he’s smart. Practically an expert in engineering and computer science (and he dabbles in other sciences too!), Donatello is the one to thank for the turtles’ neat gadgets. Leave it to Donnie to be prepared for every possible roadblock. With all his knowledge, it’s left Donnie a bit … shall we say, overconfident. He loves to show off his work, and refuses to see any shortcomings as true failure. He does wish his brothers would act more interested, however. When he’s not talking about science though, Donatello is very insecure. Unlike his brothers, he is painfully discontented with his mutanthood, wanting so strongly to be a human. Despite his generally kind and polite behavior, he has a slight disdain for other mutants, and wants to create a retromutagen. Now if only he could find actual fresh mutagen to study it … Deep down, Donatello wants to feel loved and accepted, and his greatest fear is to be shunned (or worse) for what he is. In his downtime, Donatello enjoys designing new inventions, listening to old musicals, perfecting his latte art (he swears he’s improving), playing video games, and watching bad reality TV with his best friend, April.
Michelangelo is the 14-year-old youngest son and pupil of Splinter. Everyone’s go-to traits for defining Mikey’s personality are fun-loving, friendly, and mischievous. Though perhaps the most skilled of his brothers, Mikey has a bad habit of avoiding his training, as he’d much rather be out having fun or preparing a prank for his unsuspecting brothers. Despite his lack of discipline, Mikey has a big heart and collects friendships like he collects comic books. All his brothers are very protective of him, and he knows how to take advantage of it. Mikey has a strong dislike for being pushed aside, and often takes it upon himself to handle missions without his brothers to prove he’s just as capable as them. This can put him in all sorts of trouble. Though on the bright side, this has also landed him several chances to make new friends. Mikey’s biggest dream is to become a comic book artist, a dream he gained after finding Raphael’s stash of artwork for the first time. Michelangelo’s biggest fear is his loved ones turning against him. In his downtime, he enjoys skateboarding, sketching, reading comic books, playing video games, and cooking (especially pizza!).

BIOGRAPHY
TL;DR
Inias is one of the youngest angels that God created and is in Castiel's garrison. Never fond of the destruction being a loyal angel sometimes entailed, many of his siblings believed him to be too weak. Still, Inias was loyal and always did what he was told. After the Winchesters thwarted the plan for the apocalypse, Inias was at a loss of what to do with himself without any direct orders. He was uninterested in participating in Raphael's destructive ways. When much of the angel garrison was destroyed by Castiel, he still valued his brother from all the time they had spent together. After he nearly was killed by a Leviathan while protecting the prophet and the fall of the angels due to Metatron, Inias settled onto a farm in Sonoma, California. He was done with the death and destruction now so intimately tied with Heaven.
FULL BIO
Inias is a peaceful, low-ranking angel of the lord. He was one of the youngest angels to be created by God, which allowed him a lot of time to learn under his siblings. A member of the same garrison as Castiel, Inias quickly grew fond of him. He tended to shy away from any of the archangels, their power and personalities could be rather intimidating. From the moment he came into existence, he knew that remaining loyal to God's wishes was of utmost importance. When Lucifer was cast out of Heaven due to his insubordination, it was enough to intimidate Inias to continue on his straight and narrow path, not that he even had any intention of deviation int he first place. While other siblings rebelled as well and some had nephilim, an abomination crossbreed between the angels and humans, Inias continued with whatever orders were passed his way.
The violence that started to rear its head often in the workings of Heaven not much later never sat well with him. The angels were responsible for keeping the universe balanced with the monsters that Lucifer and Eve had created and the humans that had turned evil themselves. Inias hated it and wished for the vision that his father had once had for Earth, idyllic and peaceful, but also understood the betrayal of Lucifer and humanity had broken something in his father. Much like Castiel, however, his memories of these dark times were often erased by Naomi and the others. After a while, he found a few pockets of people’s personal Heavens to spend time in. Whenever he could, he reveled in the peaceful moments so that he could tolerate the violence that he was forced to be witness to or participate in whenever anything got out of hand.
Millenia passed and things remained relatively the same as he and the other angels continued to watch humanity grow and develop on Earth. Disease and natural disasters came and went and Heaven was ever-expanding as faith remained alive and well after Jesus was put on Earth to remind humans of what Adam and Eve had failed to do, to remind them of how they were supposed to live. Direct orders from God ceased apart from a select few and orders in general slowly became less and less frequent until they all but stopped. Inias and others worried about their father, but continued to do their part in keeping Heaven running. Most never questioned that their father was continuing to make plans and look over his universe. However, the birth of the Winchesters started a downward spiral that nobody truly saw coming.
Most of Heaven knew the Winchesters were descended from Cain and Abel and that their line held the true vessels for Michael and Lucifer. Inias didn’t hear of Azazel’s plans for Sam and many other children until he had started his test to find the right person to open the gates of Hell. That action led to the path toward getting Lucifer out of the cage that he was imprisoned in. Talk about the upcoming battle between Michael and Lucifer was running rampant and Inias couldn't be more opposed to the idea. The idea of his siblings fighting like that disturbed Inias, but he knew there wasn’t much he could do but to remain loyal to his orders. Castiel was tasked with pulling Dean out of Hell, which started a long chain of the angels needing to resurrect the Winchesters to keep them alive for the battle.
Truthfully, Inias admired the Winchesters and all of the other hunters for what they did for humanity. He often wondered why angels themselves didn’t take care of the vermin that Lucifer and Eve had created, but knew it wasn’t his place to step in unless asked. Castiel fell as he grew more involved with the Winchesters and less inclined toward his orders. At the time, Inias felt sorry for his brother. His task had led him to a path that had caused him to fall. Others fell around or before this time as the angels were starting to grow uneasy with no guidance from God and the impending battle. When Lucifer and Michael both ended up trapped in the cage with the younger Winchester, Inias falsely hoped that it would be the end of the unrest in Heaven between his siblings. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. Raphael became the leader in place of Michael and fighting continued to escalate.
Inias stayed out of the fighting altogether, perturbed by the inability to follow any orders. He didn’t know how to help. Then, Castiel declared himself the new God and killed many of the garrison that serviced Raphael. While it was hard to imagine that any good could come from that, he trusted Castiel’s instincts and knew that Raphael was eager to push for more destruction. However, Castiel soon became unhinged with power and the souls of the Leviathan he had taken in to gain power to end Raphael’s rule soon killed him. At this time, he stepped up alongside Hester as they were at the top of Castiel’s garrison and took over command for the remaining angels in their garrison.
When new prophet Kevin Tran came into power, indicating the death of Chuck Shurley, Inias descended with Hester to secure the prophet in hopes of getting more guidance from God. Surprisingly, they ran into Castiel. Inias was happy to see his brother, whereas Hester grew angry because she could tell he was out of his mind due to taking on Sam Winchester’s torment from his time in the cage. They were banished by the Winchesters before they can get their hands on the prophet, but soon found them again. Hester beat up Castiel despite Inias’s protests for a peaceful resolution since they had lost so many angels, but also because his brother had been through a lot and Inias cared for him. She was killed by the demon Meg. Inias and the other angels that had accompanied them stood down. After a moment with Castiel to say that he wished Castiel could come with them, he and the other angels took over the duty of protecting Kevin Tran.
He protected Kevin while he deciphered the demon tablet with other angels, but two of his other angels are killed by a Leviathan named Edgar when they go to visit Kevin’s mother. Inias and another barely escape with their lives. Inias returned to Heaven and worked under Naomi, because being a loyal servant of Heaven was all that he had known. However, he fell with the others when Metatron tricked Castiel into banishing all of the angels from Heaven. Once on Earth, mortally wounded, Inias found his vessel to heal in. Everything that Inias had ever known was stripped from him. He knew that he could no longer try to fight through the destruction that had become commonplace with Heaven. Instead, he found a ranch house with a small amount of property in Sonoma, California that he was able to acquire.
Since the fall, he has resided in the angel proof home, gardening and immersing himself in literature and other creations of humanity that he had admired from afar. He still has his angel radio and was briefly conflicted when he heard that Heaven didn't have power to keep it running years later, but ultimately continued to stay in hiding. As time on his own continued on, Inias started beekeeping and has built some on his property to house farm animals that he saves from abusive situations. To make a bit of money with the upkeep and watch humans find happiness in what he has built, his rescue farm and greenhouse are open to the public. Inias enjoys his time with humans, even when they find him rather eccentric while he tries to learn their dialect and customs.

meta time: therapy
aka a ranking (callout) by ferre of who needs therapy atm ( will also feature my two single blog muses too ):
9. ahn yoojin
the way i write him, i think of him as someone who has gone to therapy and has done the work. yeah he still have some struggles and there will be more, but ultimately he has the tools to cope, he'll be fine. probably wouldn't go to therapy now anyways only because he prefers to be on the move.
8. lamon chuphong
surprisingly ranked low on this list, but he's one of the three muses in my roster who has seen a therapist, is the only one currently seeing one and therefore is currently working thru his problems. if this had been before his main verse, he's probably be much higher up in this list, dealing with body dysphoia and also just a ton of repression but he already hit rock bottom and is finally letting all that anger and frustration out now. it's really a matter of just flushing out all the bad things that have accumulated over the years at this point and figuring out where to go from there :'D
7. patrick myungdae grace
you know seeing a therapist probably would do him some good especially in the aftermath of felicity's second passing and of knowing the truth about his bio family. that's a lot of take in all at once...but if we're talking about now, i think he has more or less come to terms with felicity's passing- after all, he's had about ten years to really think about it and process his grief...he really just needs that final push to cross the boundary aka her second passing to accept that she's gone and he can move forward.
6. suki nakamura
the other half of my muses who has seen a therapist. she initially went to get her pyrophobia treated....and it has worked somewhat. her therapist also tried to help her find other coping mechanisms aside from folding paper to deal with the excess energy she has...did that work? no :'D i do think though that once the truth behind her parents' death comes out, she will return to therapy as there isn't really anyone else she can rely on 😭
5. mana huynh
considering her past, yeah talking it out with a therapist might be helpful, but also a lot of the growth, unlearning, and softening mana has done, it's been on her own...sure, therapy might be good for other people, but it might not be as effective for her. she's not very comfortable with speaking about herself with most people, so it would take her a long time to feel comfortable with speaking about that with her therapist....and therapy costs money :/ that and she's had bad experiences with therapists in the past so that already puts a sour taste in her mouth.
4. raphael wei
would probably benefit from grief counseling and then general counseling when it comes to unpacking the expectations and pressure he's carried for years on end. i don't think he even realizes he's been carrying that and it's like?? not normal and no person should realistically feel like they have to live up to a dead parent's legacy?? the therapy might also be good for him to help figure out why he wants to cook in the first place.
3. k ( lee ga ram )
years of repression and a desire for revenge on becoming orphaned and not mention devoting almost two decades to following and helping another person has left them with very little of a sense of self, especially in the aftermath when they wake up from their fall since the one person who had been there all that time is gone, the system they've fought so hard against is back in place, and now they have to pick up the pieces and figure out what they're going to do for the rest of their life. a therapist, aka an unbiased voice would probably be very useful here, just saying.
2. calum hyun-ki reynolds
the final of the three muses who has been to therapy. he went for a period of time after daniel's passing before taking flight permanently as his life got busier and he had all the tools. HOWEVER, nowadays, considering he's mourning the loss of his wife, while balancing taking care of his kid ( who is also equally traumatized and scared af of losing dad as well ), and also is dealing with suicidal ideation. he thinks he has it all under control but with how overly self-sacrificial and isolated he's become, it might be time for him to go back.
1. shin myungdae
i don't even know where to begin with this, but literally myungdae please go to therapy. literally he's living as he was in the past five years. transitioning to a civilian life is NOT going well, why else would he pick up the vigilante lifestyle...yes, there's a reason behind it, but also it's chaotic and requires one to be on their feet at all times...basically he doesn't know how to be at peace and literally again, needs a therapist the most, but he refuses to go, not until the whole ordeal is done...and even then, he's not sure if he'll make it out to the end...

i miss comedian raph and so i'm deciding to do something about it. of course in the 87 show we get his little asides, his bits and quips, the entirety of 'raphael knocks 'em dead' (<3), so i don't have to do anything there thank you for making my life so easy. 87 raph is just so lovely
2003 raph isn't so much of a jokester as he is an insult comic - wouldn't describe himself as such because i don't think he knows what one is, but it's a distinct difference from 87. he really enjoys making his brothers laugh especially in battles or other tense situations - it's that sometimes, because he's so emotional, the drive to do so just isn't there. it's not a defense mechanism or something he hides behind, it's something that comes naturally to him when he's able to be the most himself
2007 raph is just like that. he's too miserable to really tap into his sense of humour anymore but we do see shades of it, when he's by himself or when he's hanging out with casey. i think it's being coaxed out of him again but we shall see
2012 raph is all about pranks babey. his affinity for pranks is mentioned in his official bio and i really like that the most physical form of joke is handed off to the most physical raph so far - '12 is so rough-and-tumble, so hands-on, so in your face, i think it's only natural that he takes to practical jokes rather than to any traditional joke-telling. he, of course, is still full of snide little comments, and a lot of the time they're to amuse himself, but he does play it up on occasion in the hope of amusing his brothers
bayverse raph is NOT funny and this is what makes him funny. this man cannot tell a joke to save his own life and he knows it, leans into it.
rise raph is similarly not very funny <3 bless him. he's more of a sucker for really cheesy jokes, has about one thousand knock-knock jokes that his brothers have all heard before and that's why he can't pull them out as often as he'd like
and to round off mayhem raph, with him being the most modern interpretation we've got, is like. loves his memes loves his references loves his observational humour. he's the type to think of a joke while you're still talking and hold onto it desperately until you're done because he knows it's going to KILL

Merrick/Raphael for 27, "pulling the other one towards them"
modern (professors???) AU, babyyy!! also on AO3 with some silly bonus content i didn't feel like formatting here 🙃
“What about that new girl in your department?” Minna asks. “Grace…something?”
“Grace Carrow?” Merrick offers dubiously. When Minna nods emphatically, he adds, “Grace Carrow isn’t in my department. She’s physics, I’m bio.”
“Oh, whatever,” Minna says. “It’s all science, isn’t it?”
“So is archeology, for that matter, but you’d never say she’s in your department.”
Minna turns to Clem, who’s been blessedly silent during this whole conversation. “Well, someone’s in a mood.”
“Em is just put out because Grace is younger than Mori’s boy, and we all agreed Mori’s boy is a bit young for him,” Clem replies, looking ambivalent.
“Which makes Grace far too young for me,” Merrick adds.
“I thought we agreed not to call Thaniel a boy anymore,” Minna says, distractedly.
“Did we?” Clem asks, interested now. “How magnanimous of us.”
“Besides,” Merrick interrupts, before this gets too far away from them, “Grace Carrow is engaged.”
“She is?”
“She wears a ring.”
“Oh, that could mean anything. It could be her mother’s, for all you know!”
“It doesn’t matter, really,” Merrick says. “She’s too young for me. And I’m not interested in her.”
“That’s very much the problem, dear. You’re not interested in anyone, and yet you complain about being a third wheel. I’m just trying to help.”
Merrick sighs and sinks further into the overstuffed armchair in Clem and Minna’s living room. The staff mixer for the end of the semester is always a source of stress. It’s important to go and be seen by the head of your department and any other higher ups who chose to attend, not only to come off as a team player who showed up to social events but also to appear calm and prepared, like someone who definitely has all their finals graded already and is looking forward to winter break like a professional and not like a desperate shell of a human.
As long as Merrick’s been at the university, he’s never had a date to bring for this party, and while that’s certainly not a requirement, there does always come a point in the evening where all the couples have clustered together to have actual intelligent conversation while the single faculty members are left to commiserate over the slog to get to the end of the semester and pair off unenthusiastically, if possible. It is not a pretty sight. He recently made the mistake of complaining about this in front of Minna, who has now taken it upon herself to pair him off with any faculty member she happens to know is single. And she knows everyone.
“I wasn’t really complaining,” he says, to head her off at the pass. “Just thinking out loud about how annoying these events are for the singles among us.”
“Besides,” Clem says, reaching over to fill his wife’s wine glass, “if Em’s that desperate for a date, he can just grow a pair and finally ask Raphael.”
Minna perks up immediately, reminding him, both amusingly and terrifyingly, of a hunting dog who’s caught the scent of its quarry. “Raphael?” she asks, with a look that tells Merrick his goose is officially cooked.
Clem, to his credit, looks sheepish. “Ah, I take it Minna didn’t know about the Raphael situation.”
“Well, she does now,” Merrick says, draining his own glass and holding it out pointedly for a refill.
“She certainly does not,” Minna exclaims. “What is the Raphael situation?”
“It’s nothing. Really.”
Minna gives him an unimpressed look that could puncture a lung on a lesser man, and then swivels to look at Clem. “Markham,” she say, firmly, “you know there are no secrets in a healthy marriage.”
“That’s not fair!” Merrick shouts, but it’s a lost cause.
Clem wavers immediately under his wife’s gaze. “Merrick attended that lecture Raphael gave last month at the opening of the Inca exhibit at the museum, and they chatted briefly afterwards, and he hasn’t shut up about him since,” he admits in a rush.
“That’s not totally accurate,” Merrick hedges.
“He also had a dream about him.”
“Clem—!”
“WHAT?!” Minna shrieks at the same time. Merrick debates pointing out that they have a sleeping baby upstairs to worry about, but decides against it. “I cannot believe you kept this from me. I’m way better with this kind of thing than Markham here is and you know that.”
Merrick rolls his eyes. “You two met when you were twelve and have never been with anyone else. Neither of you are an expert on dating.”
“Fine. Just for that, I demand you tell me about this dream of yours.”
“Absolutely not!”
Minna turns in her seat. “Markham—”
“Christ, Minna! It was nothing,” Merrick says, feeling his face warm with a blush that immediately contradicts him. “I just had a dream that he and I were hanging out again and then…it’s stupid.”
“Oh, dear. You don’t have to be embarrassed. We’re all adults here. Sex is nothing the be ashamed of!”
Merrick makes a useless gesture with his hands that he hopes conveys his frustration. “That’s the stupid part! It wasn’t about sex at all! In the dream, all Raphael did was hug me goodbye before he left and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. It’s ridiculous!”
Minna and Clem exchange a look at that, which is not precisely reassuring. When Minna’s gaze returns to him, she reaches out to take his hand across the coffee table. “Darling, I think you’ve been single a little too long,” she says, not unkindly.
Merrick laughs, shakily. “No kidding.”
“Do we need to hug you more?” she asks, and she is, unfortunately, serious. “Are we failing you as friends? Are you completely touch starved?”
“Okay, I’m going to walk into traffic now…”
“Em is fine, Minna,” Clem says, placing his hand firmly on Merrick’s shoulder, so they’re all connected in a tiny triangle. “He just needs to buck up and make a move.”
“Again, you’ve been in a relationship since before you hit puberty,” Merrick says. “I’m not taking notes from you on this. Besides, I can’t believe you’re encouraging me to date Raphael. I thought you two were rivals.”
“Yes, well, I’m an exceptionally generous friend like that,” Clem replies with a smile. “And there’s every possibility that if Raphael were to get laid, he might argue with me less during department meetings, which would suit me just fine.”
“You have enormous faith in my sexual prowess, Clem, if you think I can do anything that might make Raphael despise you less.”
Clem raises his wine glass in a mock toast. “You’re like my own personal Mata Hari, Em. The anthropology department thanks you for your service.”
“I don’t even know if he’s single,” Merrick says, ignoring him. “Or if he likes men. Or me, for that matter.”
“Ah, but these are things we can find out,” Minna says, with a mischievous smile.
Merrick recognizes an uphill battle when he sees one, and resigns himself to Minna’s machinations, whatever they turn out to be, with a very large sip of wine.
*
Grace Carrow, it turns out, is very fun to hang out with at faculty mixers because she’s as unhappy to be there as he is. They spend most of the evening being cranky bastards together at a mostly empty table, and he’s honestly kind of disappointed she turned out to be so cool. She is engaged, though, a fact that he confirms when she abandons him fairly early on in the evening by announcing her intention to meet up with her boyfriend, who’s working on a PhD in Japanese poetry at a university across town, for a late dinner.
“Boyfriend?” Merrick asks, keeping his tone light enough that she won’t mistake his curiosity for romantic interest. “I assumed you were engaged, what with the ring and all.”
“Oh,” Grace says, looking embarrassed. “Yes, I suppose I’m going to meet my fiancé. It’s recent so I just can’t get used to saying it. I never could with Thaniel either.”
“Thaniel?”
“Steepleton. I thought you two knew each other.”
“We do. I wasn’t aware you did.”
Grace waves a hand. “We were engaged very briefly a few years back, before he and Mori…well, you know. It’s a very long story for what was ultimately a very short relationship, and I’d rather not talk out of school, you understand.”
“Of course,” Merrick says, magnanimously, but he’s already looking forward to sharing this bit of gossip with Clem and Minna. Every small piece of information they can gather about Mori’s life is a boon, given how private Mori is with the details now that he’s happily in a relationship. “Have a good night.”
Grace waves again, this time as a goodbye, and heads for the doors. No sooner has she disappeared from the room than Merrick feels someone sit down heavily in the chair Grace recently vacated.
“Dr. Tremayne,” Raphael says, by way of greeting.
“Professor Santos,” he replies, turning to face him, “at what point in our relationship do you think you’d be open to using my first name?”
Raphael’s expression gives away that he has to, with some effort, bite back a sarcastic retort before it mellows out into something genial and vague. “My apologies, Merrick,” he finally says.
“Much better,” Merrick says. “Are you enjoying yourself?”
“I don’t know if I’d go that far. Your first name isn’t that fun to say.”
Merrick feels himself blush. Stupidstupidstupid. “I meant, at the party.”
“Oh, of course,” Raphael says, not looking the slightest bit chagrined. There’s amusement lurking around the corners of his eyes, but he doesn’t seem to be indulging it at all. “Truthfully, I’ve always found these end-of-semester affairs to be a bit of a slog.”
“Really?”
“Don’t tell Dr. Wellesley,” he says, tipping his head in the direction of the tall woman who’s deep in conversation with Clem and Minna on the other side of the room. She’s the head of the anthropology department and thus Raphael’s boss.
“I wouldn’t dream of it,” Merrick says. “Besides, I feel the same way.”
“So, if my secret gets out, I’ll go straight to the head of your department as revenge.”
Merrick snorts, thinking about how Sing left this party after five minutes and wouldn’t care at all to hear anyone disparage it. His boss would probably agree with the sentiment. He doesn’t say that, though, because he has the distinct feeling Raphael is flirting with him and he doesn’t want that to stop anytime soon.
“Mutually assured destruction,” he replies, instead. “What a lovely idea.”
“I’m glad you think so.”
There’s a lull in their conversation, which allows Raphael to look around the room and Merrick to panic about what to say next to keep this possible flirtation going.
“Are you finished with your grading for the term?” He finally asks, after many moments of deliberation, and he really could die of embarrassment. That’s apparently the best he can do for flirting.
Raphael seems to find this offering pitiable too, if the ways he raises his eyebrow inquisitively is any indication. “Yes, I finished grading the last essay this afternoon, as a matter of fact,” he answers, clearly trying to put Merrick out of his misery.
“Lucky bastard,” he grumbles under his breath, and Raphael surprises him by laughing. Merrick always finds an odd sort of pride in getting Raphael to smile or laugh, given his no-nonsense, straightforward demeanor. He thinks it’s a reputation he courts, being seen as serious and unapproachable, but he also knows that his classes have waitlists every semester and his grad students are utterly devoted to him. The only professor more popular in his department is Clem, but Merrick chalks that up to Clem being more widely published and outwardly jovial. Once the students see what a brutal grader Clem can be, he loses some of his shine to them. Raphael, on the other hand, seems to only grow in popularity with his students as the semester goes on, so he can’t be a complete tyrant in his classes.
Still, it’s the rarity of his smiles that endeared him to Merrick in the first place. It’s hard to say now, when he’s felt it for so long, when exactly this stupid crush started, but it certainly wasn’t from the beginning. It takes a while for Raphael to really open up and be himself, for all he is notoriously blunt with everyone at all times, and his sense of humor does require some getting used to, in all honesty. That only made it more rewarding for Merrick, though, to realize that Raphael was cracking jokes with him and seeking him out at faculty functions.
And then there was that damned opening for the new Inca exhibit at the museum. Merrick had gone out of general interest—he comes from a long line of academics, though everyone in his family chose disparate fields of study, and some of them had spent considerable amounts of time in South America, which meant he learned a lot about the Inca as a small child—but also because he and Raphael are friends in a vague way and he wanted to hear his remarks for the opening. He’d heard Clem complain enough about how popular Raphael’s classes were getting that he’d been curious to see him in action.
He hadn’t been disappointed. Raphael is an engaging speaker, without trying too hard to be entertaining or relatable. He has a way of presenting even the driest information so that it feels vital and interesting, but he doesn’t speak down to anyone. He assumes his audience is intelligent and interested, and by some weird transitive property, that’s what they become. It had only been a short speech about the subject and the importance of the exhibit, but Merrick had fully understood the fuss surrounding his classes. Even if he hadn’t gone into that situation with a small crush on him, he probably would have left with one. Now, though, it’s anything but small. His crush on Raphael is raging out of control.
“I’m guessing that means you’re not finished yet?” Raphael asks, somehow still maintaining that insouciant flirtatiousness despite Merrick’s unsexy topic of choice.
“No,” he says, flustered in spite of his best efforts. “Not even close.”
“I’m sure you’ll manage. You’ve got, what, 24 hours until they’re due?”
Merrick checks his watch, the one Mori gave him for his birthday a few years ago. “A little more than that, but yes.”
“You’ll be fine. You teach botany, right? Isn’t their final exam just, like, growing a seed in a paper cup? How long could those take to grade?”
“I think you’re confusing my undergrads with third graders,” Merrick replies, drily. Still, he can’t help the smile that’s taking over his face, which ruins the effect a little.
“My mistake,” Raphael says, smiling back, unrepentant. There’s another brief pause where they sit in comfortable silence before he suddenly asks, “Markham says you might need a ride?”
Merrick stares back at him blankly for an embarrassing amount of time before he can form any sort of response. “Markham says—wait, which Markham? Minna?”
“Yes, I only know one Dr. Markham here.”
“That is objectively untrue.”
“No, it’s not. Dr. Markham’s husband also has a doctorate, but given how terrible his syllabus always is, I refuse to believe his degree is from an accredited university,” Raphael says, sincerely.
Merrick rolls his eyes. “Regardless,” he says, “this is another instance where using someone’s first name would be both helpful and appropriate.”
“Two things I always strive to be,” Raphael quips. “The one and only Dr. Minna Markham suggested you might need a ride home tonight.”
“She did? Why?”
“I foolishly assumed it was because you actually needed one,” he says, with a nonchalant shrug. “All she said to me was something about you probably wanting to leave earlier than her and her husband would, and that they’d been your ride to the party, so she felt like she needed to help get you home in one piece. I didn’t realize I would know more about this than you would.”
Merrick looks over to where Minna is now standing with Clem and several other professors he doesn’t know well, and she’s watching him and Raphael with her wine glass held up to her lips. She offers him a small smile—not overly gloating, just vaguely pleased—and makes a point of returning her gaze to her conversation partners—in a bid to give him some privacy, he supposes.
“Now that you mention it, she did say they might be staying late,” Merrick says, not entirely certain he’s even slightly convincing at it.
“Well, I told her I’d be happy to give you a lift.”
“Oh, well, you don’t have to, just because Minna twisted your arm—”
“Christ, Merrick! It’s a ride home, not a kidney,” Raphael says, but he looks amused. Maybe even charmed, though that could just be wishful thinking. “I am leaving now, though, so if you’d rather stay—”
“God, no,” Merrick immediately interjects. “I’d like to leave as soon as possible.”
Raphael smiles again, that stupid, rare smile of his, and nods. “I assume you’ll want to say goodbye to the Markhams, and I need to talk to my boss before I leave, so let’s meet by the doors in five minutes.”
“Alright,” Merrick replies, trying to sound like leaving this party with Raphael isn’t making him incredibly nervous. He reaches for his cane, propped up against the table next to him, with sweaty palms and prays that his crush isn’t obvious to literally everyone.
He makes his way over to where Minna and Clem are standing and tries to capture their attention without completely interrupting the conversation. Minna catches his eye and turns towards him with arms already outstretched.
“How’d we do?” she asks, sotto voce, which saves him only a little embarrassment.
“Well, he’s driving me home, so I’m thinking maybe spring for the wedding,” he replies, with an eye roll.
Minna whacked his shoulder with the back of her hand. “Don’t be absurd, Em! You’d never be able to plan a proper wedding by spring! Summer, though…”
He’s spared from having to come up with a clever retort by a sudden pain in his knee that makes him wince and lean more heavily on his cane. By the time he’s collected himself, he looks up to find Minna watching him with concern.
“Everything alright?”
Merrick waves it off. “Oh, it’s fine. Just hurts worse when the weather’s bad. You know.”
Minna nods. “It’s supposed to be particularly nasty tonight. You’ll be careful getting home?”
“I won’t be the one driving, but I’ll do my best not to distract Raphael too much with my good looks,” he says.
“Don’t joke about that! You know, you’re very handsome, Em.”
“What’s that?” Clem asks, choosing this moment to join the conversation.
“I’m telling Merrick to stop being so damned self-deprecating and admit that he’s very handsome,” Minna replies, without shame. “Don’t you think he’s very handsome, Markham?”
“Oh, exceedingly,” Clem says, in that mild way of his where it’s impossible to tell if it’s sarcastic or not. “You’re not bad to look at at all, Em.”
Merrick is certain he’s blushing furiously now. “Thank you both so much for the pep talk, but unfortunately I must be going now,” he says.
Minna pulls him into a gentle hug, careful not to throw off his balance now that she knows his knee is bothering him. “Like I said, be careful,” she whispers to him.
“Yes, yes. I will be.”
“You don’t suppose Raphael would be willing to carry you to the car, on account of your leg and all, do you?”
Merrick groans and pulls back from her. “You’re a menace,” he says, blushing even more now.
“He’s just so strapping,” she says, with a diabolical look in her eye. “I bet he could do it.”
“Unfortunately, we’ll never know,” Merrick replies, breezily, and turns to hug Clem goodbye.
Clem embraces him, but has the audacity to say, before they break apart, “The entire anthropology department is rooting for you, my friend.”
“You are both terrible,” Merrick says, “and I cannot believe you’re my best friends in the entire world.”
“You’ll be much more appreciative of our efforts once you’ve gotten laid, my dear,” Minna replies, cheerfully, as she reaches out to fix his collar.
“We’re not—I didn’t say—That’s not what’s happening!”
“Keep an open mind, darling,” Clem says, toasting him before effectively ending the conversation by turning back to the other group of professors.
“Safe travels,” Minna adds, “and we’ll see you for the holidays!”
Merrick sighs, defeated. “Yes, ma’am,” he replies, leaning in to give her a kiss on the cheeks before departing.
True to his word, Raphael is waiting for him by the exit when he gets there, and with nothing more than a nod in his direction, heads out of the room. Tonight is definitely not going to end in a win for the anthropology department, Merrick thinks, glumly, as he follows. Once they’ve crossed through the lobby of the building and out into the actual night, the force of the cold, damp air hits Merrick like a wall and he pauses to button his coat all the way up to his neck and readjust his grip on his cane. There are fat snowflakes the size of doilies falling through the air and landing uselessly on the ground where they melt almost immediately. Here on the main campus, the groundskeepers have salted the pathways generously, so it will be a long while before anything can accumulate. He imagines the roads will be just the same, for the moment at least, and he’s glad for multiple reasons to be escaping the party at this particular moment. Driving home any later would likely be a nightmare.
He’s thinking about texting Minna and Clem a weather update and is halfway through pulling out his phone, when he remembers that he’s not alone. Raphael stands a few feet away, waiting patiently and looking amused. It’s neither of those things that truly capture Merrick’s attention, though.
“Is that really what you’re wearing? In this weather?” he asks, instead, gawking at him.
Raphael looks down, as if he’s never considered his own clothing before. “What’s wrong with this?”
“It’s a suit.”
“We were at a party, Merrick. Suits are appropriate.”
Merrick shakes his head, disbelieving. “Usually, in the middle of snow storms, an actual jacket is helpful.”
“This is a jacket,” Raphael says, plucking at his lapels.
“It’s a suit ja—wait, are you honestly telling me you don’t have a coat? You didn’t just forget it inside?”
“This is what I wore to the party,” Raphael says, slowly, like maybe Merrick is the moron here.
“Aren’t you cold?!” Merrick asks, indignant and just barely holding himself back from stamping his feet to keep warm as the chill settles in.
“Not really,” Raphael replies, with a shrug. “You are, though, so maybe we should start walking.”
Merrick reluctantly lets this argument go, and nods. He’ll text Minna and Clem about the roads once they’re on their way, but he focuses now on getting to the parking garage without falling on his face. This part of campus is very pretty, especially in the snow, with its quintessential liberal arts college architecture, big, stone buildings with massive arched windows and cobblestone paths everywhere. But the very things that make it quaint and picturesque can make it harder to navigate with a cane, Merrick finds, as his gets stuck between two uneven cobblestones in the path they’re taking to the edge of campus, where Raphael is parked. He swears under his breath, but not enough to avoid Raphael hearing, apparently, because he looks over with concern.
“Alright?” He asks, eyebrows drawn together.
Merrick feels himself flush even in the bitter cold air. “Yes, fine,” he says, trying not to grit his teeth. He usually doesn’t struggle this much, but the cold and the dampness are making his leg ache and the unfamiliarity of the situation is making him nervous.
Of course, the moment he waves off Raphael’s concern is also the moment he loses his balance. His foot simply slips out from under him on the wet stones and he starts to fall for a terrifying split second until he feels himself yanked back as Raphael pulls him upright by his elbow and into his side, though presumably that last part is an accident. Merrick is trying to catch his breath while keeping his eyes screwed shut to avoid facing the embarrassment of what just happened when he realizes Raphael is still holding him.
He opens his eyes to find Raphael watching him carefully, with an expression of mild terror across his features that Merrick suspects has less to do with fear over his near-fall and more to do with how close their faces are right now. Merrick is a little taller than Raphael under normal circumstances but in their current configuration—Merrick still slouched over slightly and Raphael keeping him close with one hand on his elbow and the other on his waist to steady him—they're eye-to-eye. He’s not sure he’s ever seen Raphael look nervous, although maybe he just always hides it better than Merrick does, but he certainly looks it now.
“Thanks,” is what Merrick manages to say, as faintly as humanly possible. If he’d been actively trying to do an impression of a cartoonish damsel in distress whose heart is racing more from the broadness of her rescuer’s chest than the danger she avoided, he couldn’t have done better. Then again, in his defense, Raphael does have an impressively broad chest.
“Sure,” Raphael says, and it was probably, given his general demeanor, meant to come out breezy and nonchalant, but instead he grits the word out stiffly, as though it takes all his concentration to say it correctly.
“I don’t—” Merrick struggles to find his words. “What I mean is, I’m not normally this…”
“I know,” Raphael answers, without waiting for him to finish. His look has been upgraded from nervous to petrified, and it almost makes Merrick want to laugh. It turns out all he needed to get calm, cool, detached Raphael off his game was to get within kissing distance of him. He wishes he’d thought of this months ago.
Raphael’s eyebrows draw together even further, adding a layer of guardedness to his expression. “Why are you smiling?” he asks, without a hint of amusement.
Merrick hadn’t realized he was. “There’s snowflakes landing on your eyelashes,” he says, because there are and he’s never had the opportunity to view that particular feature of Raphael’s up close before.
“Oh,” Raphael says, blankly. He doesn’t look happy with that answer, but Merrick is.
From anyone else, it would be a letdown, a mixed signal to worry over later when he’s home by himself. But for whatever reason, coming from Raphael, it is a clear sign that he’s doing something right. Nobody flusters Raphael. He might be the first in human history to manage it. All this time he’s been waiting for Raphael to catch on to his crush and make a move or reject him accordingly. It had never occurred to him that maybe Raphael had maybe been doing the same thing, circling around him, seeking him out at staff meetings and work parties, and hoping he’d be the brave one. He took Raphael’s confidence and self-assured demeanor in his professional life for granted as his de facto personality in every part of his life, but maybe it wasn’t. Maybe he’d found the thing that intimidated the otherwise unflappable anthropology professor that everyone admired. And it was him, of all things.
“It’s cute,” Merrick says, meaning the snowflakes and the eyelashes and the swooping in to save him and the fact that he’s nervous about it all now.
Raphael nods, the gesture both absent and enthralled, and clearly tries to think of something to say, but he gets distracted when Merrick wets his lips, which is all the encouragement Merrick needs to lean forward and kiss him. Raphael’s mouth is stiff under his for a long moment, which Merrick attributes more to surprise than disgust and vows to give it a few more seconds before he panics and backtracks. Raphael doesn’t so much burst into reciprocation—the way people do in the movies, like a switch from shock to passion has been flipped—so much as he melts into it. His disbelief and restraint mellows into something more yielding and he kisses Merrick back cautiously. He allows himself to be kissed, following Merrick’s lead and inclination, which on paper shouldn’t be sexy and yet, here and now, it is driving Merrick a little bit wild. After months of thinking about it, the best way to go about pursuing him, Raphael’s submission to him here feels deliriously good.
Merrick tests the waters by tracing Raphael’s lip with his tongue, and he’s rewarded with a small groan of pleasure before Raphael opens his mouth for him. He’s also rewarded with Raphael’s hand coming to tangle in his hair, wet from the snow that’s still falling and probably growing rattier by the second. He doesn’t want to deal with that reality right now, though, or the one where his leg is still bent at an awkward angle and starting to ache. He just wants to be able to ignore all that for another few minutes, to keep this going, because he can feel Raphael growing bolder by the second and he wants to encourage that way of thinking.
Eventually, though, he can’t help making a noise of protest as the pain in his knee goes from an ache to a stab. Raphael rears back immediately, looking dazed and alarmed, but thankfully not getting too far away. His warm breath clouds up the cool night air between their bodies.
“Sorry,” he says, more a reflex than anything else.
“Why are you—?” Merrick laughs. “What are you apologizing for?”
“I don’t…know,” Raphael says, sounding lost. It’s both concerning and flattering in equal measure.
Merrick shakes his head, amused. “It wasn’t you. It’s just my leg. With the weather being bad, it was already hurting and then I sort of landed on it weird. I’m sorry. It’s not normally—”
“Don’t apologize to me. Not for that. I should have thought—”
“It’s not a big deal. It’s just bad luck, with the snow and all. I promise I’m not always complaining about it, it’s just—”
“Merrick,” Raphael interrupts, solemnly, “I don’t care. I mean, I care, but not like…you don’t have to minimize it. You’re not turning me off. Am I—Does that make sense?”
“Yes,” he manages to reply, even though his throat feels kind of dry. He knows that he spends a lot of his time trying to wave off concern from well-meaning people who don’t understand how someone so young and healthy could need a cane, and diverting the attention of less well-meaning people who want to ask a thousand questions about how it happened or tell him exercises that helped their third cousin’s bridesmaid with their mobility after their accident. He finds it hard to believe that this could be the reason someone wouldn’t find him attractive at all, but he’d never actually realized before how much time he spends minimizing his complaints about bad days and the lack of accessibility on campus in order to not come off as a bummer—or, god forbid, high maintenance—to other people. He didn’t realize how nice it would be to have someone give him blanket permission to talk about it, or not, to his heart’s content without the risk of judgment.
“Minna suggested having you carry me,” he adds, stupidly, after a moment. He can’t think of anything intelligent to say, because his brain is too focused on getting back to the kissing part of the evening.
Raphael’s eyebrows shoot up in surprise. “She did?”
“She said you were strapping.”
“I suppose compared to her husband, anybody would seem—”
Merrick shoves his shoulder, though not particularly hard. It makes him feel like a teenager again. “Be nice,” he says, fighting off a grin. “She’s rooting for us.”
“Oh?” Raphael’s eyebrows climb higher, but his tone betrays some amusement.
Merrick shouldn’t have said that part, but it’s too late to backtrack now. “What?” He asks, indignant instead. “Did you think tonight was the first time I thought about kissing you?”
“I guess I hadn’t thought about it that deeply,” Raphael says, pensively. When Merrick laughs at that, he scowls. “My mind was, as you might expect, elsewhere.”
“Oh?” Merrick says, trying to match Raphael’s intonation. “Would you like to elaborate on where exactly your mind went?”
Raphael wets his lips, eyes on the ground. “When you kissed me, you mean?” he asks, without looking up.
“Yes.”
It had never occurred to Merrick before this that maybe Raphael wasn’t haughty or aloof, but rather that he was shy and cautious. He also thought his infatuation had been extraordinarily obvious, to everyone, yes, but to Raphael above all. Now, he’s thinking maybe it wasn’t. The idea he’d had in his head of Raphael as cool and unaffected, as the person holding all the cards in their interactions, might have been a fundamental misunderstanding of him, he now realizes. Because the man in front of him is nervous, is holding himself back out of an abundance of caution. The man in front of him has made it clear Merrick is, in fact, holding all of the cards. That doesn’t stop him, though, from making a move, as he lifts his gaze to meet Merrick’s again.
He smiles, softly. “You still want me to take you home?”

Okay, so I am just the worst. I'm very sorry for that. I will make an effort to stop being the worst. I'm already starting writing for the next chapter. It will be out next week. If it is not, please pester me until it is. If nothing else, the next chapter should be relatively interesting, so.
Chapter 15
“So then I was like, ‘Screw you, man, you don’t know me.’ Because he was being a dick.”
You nod, taking another sip from your straw. “So he was.”
“Well,” Casey continues, gesturing with his pizza slice, “that’s why he gave me a black eye on the ice. And now Annie won’t talk to me.”
With a sigh, you reach up, wincing slightly as the muscles in your back crack. “Well,” you smile tiredly, “that does sound like a predicament. Want me to try talking to her?”
“Nah.” He leans against his hand, taking a bite of his food. “It’s whatever. Didn’t like her, anyway.”
You smirk. “Bullshit.”
“Smartass.” He rolls his busted eyes. “How’s your boyfriend?”
“Nonexistent.”
“Bullshit,” he mimics. “Isn’t he all over you?”
“Hardly.” You wave your hand dismissively. “‘Sides, he doesn’t want a relationship, I bet.”
“You slept together.” He swallows. “You slept together and he didn’t make a pass at you.”
“What does that prove?” You take another drink. “Just because he or I want it to happen doesn’t mean that it should.”
“Bullshit,” he sings once more. “You’re just scared of commitment, I bet.”
Your face flushes. “That’s not it!”
“Then why not ask him?”
“Look,” you fumble for an excuse that was not ‘He’s a ninja,’ “he’s really busy, what with his sports and science stuff. I’m lucky he has time for me at all; what we have is fine until things calm down a bit with him.”
“So never.”
“Pretty much.”
Another bite. “If he’s so smart, won’t he be going off to Harvard or some shit? Shoot your shot.”
“Who are you to give me relationship advice?” You push him, placing your hand on the pizza box between you on the bench. “You just fucked up with Johanna.”
“Maybe the reason you two are still virgins is that you’re both smartasses.”
“We’re like fifteen!” You laugh. “What, you’re a lady killer now?”
“Hey, I’ve made my rounds.” He grins. “You know the blond chick? Jenny?”
You stick your tongue out at him. “She is completely out of your league, Jones,” you huff. “Know your place.”
“And she’s in yours?”
“Did I say that?” You take another sip. “No, I did not.”
He sighs. “I’m gonna set you up.”
You blink at this sudden change in subject matter. “Huh?”
“There’s this guy on the team who has a thing for you.” He takes another bite of his pizza. “I promised I’d try.”
“Out of the goodness of your heart?”
“Surprisingly, yes.” He leans back on the bench, head flopping back. “We’ve been buddies for a while.”
Your eyes trace the cracks in the pavement carelessly, weighing your options. “Where?”
“I’m looking for a yes or no.”
You fiddle with your collar. “Which guy?”
“Carter from bio.”
With bright green eyes, long black hair, you can hardly describe him as ugly. A bit pompous, but not irredeemably so. The idea of going on a date with another man-- another human, no less-- is hardly unappealing, especially given the fact that you are almost completely certain that whatever you have going on between yourself and Donatello is going to go exactly nowhere. It would be nice, you know, to go out to lunch or dinner with a pretty boy.
Your gut tells you it is a bad idea. Your gut also told you to go try and check out Shredder’s lair that one time, and now you could not walk.
“I’m down.” Why not? Life is about taking risks that do not result in your lack of motor functions. “You got his number?”
He nods, pulling his phone out of his pocket and texting you the contact. “He’s a good guy,” he promises. “He’s not gonna try shit, probably.”
“You sound certain.”
“Shut up.” He scrolls through his phone. “Who knows, though? Maybe you’ll like him more than your guy and you won’t have to keep pining over him.”
“And there’s the ulterior motive.” You cross your arms, setting the cup on the ground. “If I get stood up, it’s your ass.”
“Yeah, yeah.” He leans his head back forward, picking at his nails absentmindedly. “Whatcha gonna do? Fight me?”
You smirk. “It’s as realistic as you getting with Jennifer Barker.”
“And that’s my cue to leave.” He stands up, wiping his hands on his jeans and taking the box. “I’m taking this.”
“Have at it,” you follow suit, checking the time. “Don’t eat it all at once.”
“I will absolutely ignore your advice.”
“Obviously.” You wave. “See ya tomorrow.”
“See ya.”
The walk home is long, as always, but with every passing day, you get better at walking with one good leg. Having lost it in the dumpster with little more than reassurance that knowing whoever took it needed it more than you do, you have learned a thing or two about balance, and yet you still quietly long for your other leg. ‘It would be nice to be able to run places,’ you muse. ‘It would make me feel better about walking around at this time of night.’ With all the walking you have to do— you still do not have a metro card because you are foolish— you are still relatively strong, but getting places without hobbling and having the option to run away would be nice.
You unlock the door to your apartment. ‘Just a couple more days before I can walk properly again.’ You pull it open, kicking your shoe off.
Someone is sitting on your couch.
You take a shaky step back— ‘I can’t run’—, tripping on your feet and falling on your back in the hallway, your drink spilled on the floor. It is as if your body is struck with lightning, every nerve on edge as you crawl away, voice caught in your throat as you try and get as far away from the door as possible. Your body drags with you.
Too slow.
A hand grabs your ankle. It drags you back into the room with barely a grunt, and with a slam, the door shuts, and you are locked with a figure whose face you cannot see.
The door locks.
The figure lets go of your ankle, heart pounding in your heart as you try and reach for the doorknob, tears pricking your eyes. You can barely use your hands again, progress gone in an instant. ‘Don’t kill me.’ You pray to stop shaking. ‘I can’t die here. Not after everything that’s happened.’
The light clicks on.
“What the fuck is your deal?”
Your eyes snap open. A rush of embarrassment slams into you, a wave of shame making you hot all over as you become painfully aware of the fact that you look absolutely pathetic, clawing at the door.
You pull yourself to your feet shakily, turning back to look at Raphael. “You,” you mumble, opening the door and grabbing your keys from off the floor, not even bothering with the cup, “are the fucking worst.”
“You’re the one that’s all jumpy.” He rolls his eyes, sitting back on the couch. “Who did you think it was?”
You scramble for another answer. “I don't know,” you snap. “If you didn’t know, I’d like to introduce you to the concept of texting someone before you sit ominously on their couch.”
“You’ll live.”
“Barely!”
He sighs. “Sit. We have to talk.”
You toss your keys onto the counter, shakily hobbling over to the kitchen, hands clenched still. “You talk.” Your voice starts to stabilize. “I’m going to have a drink and wish it was alcohol.”
“Do you remember the first month you were here?” He crisscrosses his legs. “A week or so in?”
You lean down, grabbing a drink container. “When Mikey almost got kidnapped? Yeah.”
“Do you remember what you said?”
“Do I remember what I said over two months ago? No, I do not.” You set it on the counter, reaching into the cabinet and pulling a plastic cup down. You consider a glass one but did not want to clean glass shards off of your floor again.
“Then let me remind you.” He leans back into your couch. “You said, and I quote, that Shredder doesn’t get close to murdering Master Splinter until season two, whatever that means.”
You nod, setting your hands on the counter until they stop shaking. “What about it?”
“Shredder gets close to killing my father.”
You sigh, dreading the ensuing conversation. “Look,” you reason, “it probably won’t get to that if we’re smart.”
“The first word I think of when I think about our group is not smart.”
“It’s one guy.” You lean against your hand. “So long as he doesn’t pull a Leo and martyrs himself—“
He cuts you off. “What does martyr mean?”
“If he doesn’t throw himself in harm's way for the sake of the greater good—“
“So my Leo throws himself in harm’s way?”
“Have you met your brother?” You try and grab your cup. “Of course he does.”
His eyes widen. “So you’re telling me my brother dies too?”
“I did not say that.”
“But you—“
“The point,” you snap, “is that so long as your father values his own safety, he will be fine. There are preventative measures that we can take to make sure he doesn’t kick the bucket, so for now, worry about how you’re going to survive.”
He gets up. “How does he go the first time?”
“I can’t tell you that.”
“Why?” He stands in front of you, staring you down. “Why won’t you?”
“Because you’ll kill yourself over it.” You pick up your cup, taking a sip. “If I told you what happened in the future, you’d pull something to try and defy that, right? Then we wouldn’t even know what it was anymore, and our one tactical advantage would be shot."
“But—“
“I only tell you,” you cut him off, “about certain things so you can prepare to face them, not to try and avoid them. There are very few exceptions to that rule.” You set the cup back down, staring back. “There are things we can do to prevent things from happening, but not right now. Right now, our top priority is to make sure the Kraang don’t kill us all.”
“How come you get to know stuff we don’t?”
“Because.”
He throws his hands up. “Oh, well if that’s the reason—“
“Do you have anything else you wanna say or are you planning on just being up my ass?”
He closes his eyes, hands together as he takes a slow, deep breath. “Yes, actually.”
“What?”
“Karai approached us today when we went to check our Donnie’s stupid signal thing.” He opens them again. “She wants to team up.”
“Cool.” Your voice softens. “That’s good.”
He leans against the counter. “Can we trust her?”
You take another drink. “Trust is a strong word right now,” you sigh. “Aligning with her is a good idea, though. Just trust her as far as you can throw her.”
“What does that mean?”
“Well,” you shrug, “you can trust her to get you things and give you access to stuff. Just keep your guard up is all. Be diplomatic about it and you’ll be fine.”
He nods. “Cool.” He smiles. “Donnie’s been very anti-Karai so far.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.” He chuckles. “No idea why?”
You shake your head. “Thought he’d like having a kunoichi on his side.”
“You’d think.”
“Well, he’s gotta get over it some time.” You take another drink. “Preferably sooner than later, though. Fucking with Karai…” you shudder. “She’s incredibly powerful. If we can stay on her good side, it would make our lives easier.”
“Ours, you mean.”
“I have a stake in this too, you know.”
He scoffs. “How?”
“We’re on the same planet.” You reach down, fixing your pants over your cast. “Plus, I’m a target of the foot by association.”
“You aren’t fighting with us.”
“Would you rather I did?” You look back up at him. “Because when I do it seems it’s in the wrong way.”
“It would be helpful if you weren’t useless.”
“But I am, so it isn’t.”
“I guess.”
You stand back up straight. “Is that all?”
“Nope.” He walks back to the couch, sitting down. “I’m staying here a bit. Leo’s being an ass.”
“How so?”
“Same way as per usual.” He leans back into the couch. “Thinks he’s better than everyone.”
“And you don't have a better place to hang?”
He shrugs. “My brother likes you well enough. Besides, I want to know the person who’s making all of these big decisions in my life.”
“So it’s because you don’t like me?”
“Kinda, yeah.”
You take another sip from your drink. “That sounds paradoxical.”
“So?”
“So,” you lean your head against your hand, “why would you want to talk to me if you don’t like me?”
“Because your brother likes you,” he repeated. “If you’re going to be hanging around a ton I might as well try to like you.”
You smile. “That is incredibly mature of you, Hamato.”
A scoff. “You can’t call us all Hamato.”
“Watch me.” You hum, taking another sip from your drink. “Can I get you anything, by the way?”
“I’m good.”
“Suit yourself.” You reach into your bag— luckily, nothing has fallen out— and pull out your phone. “I just need you out by eleven-thirty. It’s a school night.”
“Even without being involved in our fights,” he shakes his head, “you are a total pussy.”
“Suck me.” You grab it off the counter, carefully carrying your cup to your bed. “And keep the noise down. “My neighbors have been pleasant and I want it to stay that way.”
“Buzzkill. You clearly don’t spend enough time with Mikey.”
“You know,” you grin, pulling out your notes as you sit down, “your brother says the opposite. Donnie, I mean.”
“I figured.”
You glance over at the window as he fiddles with the remote. “How did you get in?”
“The window.”
“No shit.” You look back over at him. “Red button, but I lock the window."
“No, you didn’t.” He clicks the button. “It was unlocked when I got here.”
“Huh.” Another stream of electricity flows through your veins. ‘They know where I live.’ You swallow.
“Must’ve forgotten.”
You did not. You would not forget. There was no way you could have, or would have, forgotten to do something like that.
“Must’ve.”
