7 Different (& Unusual) Teas You Must Try For A Healthier Body And Mind

Do you love your Earl Grey morning tea with shortbread? If yes, then you are a classic tea lover. The history of tea dates back to China about 5000 years ago, and tea was later popularized worldwide by the British empire. Today we see multiple variations of teas. The classic leaf-based teas have evolved into herbal teas with flowers, fruit extracts, herbs, and spices. Tea is no longer just a recreational beverage but has numerous health benefits for the body and mind. This article will take you through seven special teas that you must try for a healthier body and mind.
Image Source 1. Kratom Tea: According to Hopkins Medicine, over 10 million Americans drink Kratom tea by brewing the Kratom leaves. Kratom is a tropical plant found in South Asia and is extremely popular in Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar. The leaves of Kratom contain a chemical called mitragynine that can influence the brain opioid receptors to bring positive emotions. This tea can give energy-boosting, pain-relieving, and mood-uplifting benefits. The kratom canada strain has long-lasting effects, giving you a clear mind for a longer duration and hence, is excellent for high concentration activities like studying for an exam. 2. Chamomile Tea:
Image Source According to recent research, chamomile tea effectively improves sleep quality and reduces depression among postpartum women. Chamomile is a herb extracted from the daisy-like flowers of the family Asteraceae. You can prepare the tea by infusing dried flowers in hot water. It has a sweet taste and is rich in antioxidants that can lower the risk of cancer or heart diseases. A Healthline article also lists out chamomile tea as suitable for diabetes control by boosting insulin production, a hormone that controls blood sugar levels in the body. 3. Ginger Tea: Ginger tea is a popular herbal tea that infuses dried or fresh ginger in hot water or a classic hot tea. This tea is a popular household remedy for treating common colds and coughs in India and South East Asia. A BBC article lists several benefits of ginger tea. Ginger has phytonutrients called gingerols that are anti-bacterial and reduce inflammation. Ginger tea can also mitigate nausea and improve digestion. It can also be effective in relieving pain caused by headaches or migraines. Finally, if you want to shred some pounds off your body, ginger tea is an excellent choice to control appetite, increase metabolism, and control obesity. 4. Green Tea:
Image Source Green tea is the most popular tea when it comes to a healthy beverage. Green, black, or oolong tea all come from the same parent plant Camellia Sinensis. You can prepare Green tea by infusing steamed or dried leaves in boiling water. Green tea originated from East Asia and has been used for medicinal purposes in China and Japan. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health defines Green tea as a dietary supplement that promotes mental alertness, relieves headaches, aids in weight loss, and is rich in antioxidants like catechins that can protect against cancer or cardiovascular diseases. 5. Kadha Tea:
Image Source Kadha is an Indian Ayurvedic tea that gained prominence during Covid-19. It is a concoction of multiple herbs and spices like Tulsi (Indian Basil), black pepper, cinnamon, turmeric, and cardamom-infused in hot water. Technically not described as a tea, but this healthy beverage has many benefits. According to the Times of India, Kadha has anti-viral properties. Tulsi, present in Kadha, helps reduce mucus and fights against cold, cough, and infections. Kadha also soothes the throat and has anti-septic properties. It is also effective in treating kidney stones. However, it would be best if you consumed this beverage in limited quantities in a day as the presence of so many spices can cause heartburn and nausea. 6. Peppermint Tea: Made by infusing peppermint leaves in hot water, this beverage is one of the few teas with no caffeine content. Peppermint tea is famous for its fresh, calm, and minty flavor. According to BBC, peppermint tea is effective in reducing bloating and alleviating pain during irritable bowel syndrome. Because of its caffeine-free content, peppermint tea helps improve sleep quality. The menthol smell in peppermint and the steam from the tea open up nasal flow for block noses. If you suffer from bad breath and frequently resort to sugary chewing gums, then you can take peppermint tea to counter bad breath with its natural anti-bacterial properties. 7. Hibiscus Tea: Hibiscus tea is made by infusing parts of the hibiscus plant in steaming water. The tea tastes like cranberries but has several medicinal benefits. According to Healthline, hibiscus tea has powerful antioxidants that help lower blood cholesterol levels and control systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The articles also stated that hibiscus tea could help weight loss and lower the risk of fatty liver. Hibiscus tea may also be effective against several bacterial infections. Conclusion: To summarize, there are several varieties of herbal tea available in the world. Different cultures have their recipes of herbal tea with their specific body and mind benefits. Apart from above-mentioned, there are other teas such as lemongrass tea, echinacea tea, the African Rooibos tea, sage tea, rosehip tea, fennel tea, etc. Before trying out any new herbal tea, check with your local dietician or physician to check for any allergies. have i gone posiTEAvly insane?
In honor of this insane cookbook project, I decided to take it upon myself to test out one of the craziest inventions I stumbled upon: rice made using pearl milk tea. I found this on the internet, where a small noodle shop owner (Mr. Sato) in Taiwan decided to combine both products that he sold into one creation. I figured, why not? It seemed to work in principle, why not attempt in reali-TEA?
Instructions:
1. Purchase milk tea: I decided to go to RareTea and purchase the Brown Sugar Okinawa Milk Tea for this experiment. I figured the brown sugar would match the coloration that I noted from the link that I found from reporting the original phenomenon.
2. Purchase rice: I decided to go for a sushi rice, a short grain rice, and use a white rice because it was the most absorbant, as opposed to brown rice that would be difficult to absorb with the milk and cream sugar.
3. Measure out about 3 cups of rice. Wash the rice well. Then pour in the milk tea. Since I conveniently lost my measuring cup during this critical time period of needing to create a cook book, I used another method that I learned from my mother on how to measure the amount of liquid to put in making rice: place your index finger right on top of the rice’s surface. Then add in enough liquid so that it reaches the second line.

4. Press cook and pray you didn’t create a sugary monstrosity in your rice cooker
5. Final result:

WOW this actually looks really good! I tried it and verdict: 8.5 / 10
The tapioca balls are especially chewy and soft, and the sushi rice was a perfect complement to the brown sugar - not too sweet and concentrated as is the original drink, but just right. I will say it was a big plain tasting, as it was just rice, but it tasted like a good rice dessert to finish off the end of the meal!

@kamikatsu_teamate always so cool to see innovation in the tea industry. Daichi Hyakuno moved from Wakayama to the small village of Kamikatsu, Tokushima, and began selling the region’s famous folk tea, Awa Bancha…now he is experimenting with the roasting of Awa Bancha himself producing micro batches of tea with a delicate flavor profile… (we’ll get some for Yunomi soon!) #raretea #japanesetea #tealife #teapeople #teafarm #awabancha #kamikatsu #tokushima (at Kamikatsu-TeaMate) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj92W_GLjuF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
