“Taissa! Catch!” She’s whirling before her brain can catch up, her hand shooting into the air. A cold can of beer smacks into her palm with all the power of a line-drive. Natalie flings both arms above her head, whooping. “Fuck yeah! Told you she’d do it!” Tai bestows upon them all a broad smile, cracking the tab and pounding half the can in a single pull. Nat makes a noise like Taissa’s just delivered her first-born, pain-free, and Tai laughs. It’s a bold sound, brassy over the whump of music, and she doesn’t really feel it at all. Not down deep in her chest, in her belly, where the best kind of laughter lives. Not in her head, which is pounding. It, like so much of this evening, is a lie.

Hometober Day 6

Just trying to catch up, I'll try to get day 7 done by the end of the night so wish me luck! This one is about homes outside of homes, I call it "New Signs" based on a memory of my aunt Lorena making me a milkshake at her new place. This was a sweet little apartment home for her and her son, I wasn't there too too often but I remember feeling safe and happy whenever we visited. As usual, more under the read but otherwise have a great day!

My aunt Lorena had some complicated relationships during the time I lived in Calgary, but she loved her son more than anything in the world-and still does! At some point early on she managed to find this basement apartment by a man I called uncle Julio who had a cool ass parrot, and it was small and quaint but it was everything they needed and they seemed happy. We had some birthdays there, we had some family reunions there, and despite the few years between her son and I we got along like a house on fire. He was the cousin who played with my playdoh back in the second picture, and they both visited often at the house we rented for a year [we were always an inch or two off in height but he eventually beat me haha]. Reason for the name here is that we were watching that awful movie Signs about aliens, I remember being sHOCKED at that scene where the alien shows up on the news at a Mexican party it was so scary to me at first. I don't think they live there anymore, from what I could gather back in May but I know they're doing better and my cousin works hard for both of them. I love them dearly, and they always had each other so their home was peaceful for me. Another fav memory was walking to a closed-off driving entrance with a chain and using it as a swing where he flexed his french at me-I didn't know much french yet but I got better quickly. oh man a bunch of people are picking the SCP universe on that poll i made.

One person even said something like, "The SCP universe is just like ours but with a higher chance of cryptids!"

Ah hah.

NO?

If you want a world that's like ours but with a higher chance of cryptids, you want Grimm. Or Supernatural. Or Buffy even. All of those even on their highest danger mode are safe for normal people compared to the SCP universe.

SCP universe is the one you want if you combine all of those with a bunch of unending cosmic horror and also pinata filled with poison candy that attacks and beats children to death while also turning children into copies of itself. Or an indestructible spider legged, tentacled cow heart that kills and kills and kills if it breaks containment. Or the Not!Deer. Or Bread Jesus. (These are a few SCP off the top of my head).

Like SURE there are neat SCPs. I would LOVE a copy of Miss J's Whiz Kidz Schoolhouse (CD that can teach you anything)! I'd love to use SCP-294 (vending machine that can dispense anything you want as long as it's a liquid). There are other neat ones too!

But like, I don't think those make the possibility of SCP-1128 worth it... (The Aquatic Terror. A giant sea monster that, if you know it exists, it can hunt you via ANY water. It has eaten people via leaping out of a cup of water, or a water droplet. It does NOT give up). This is a random and fairly tame threat in the SCP files tbh. There's WAY worse ones.

The choice could be between the SCP verse and getting dropped naked and alone in any of the others I listed and I would choose naked and alone. Better chance of survival.
