Hello Tumblrs it is I, your favourite.
So because I am a thundering dumbass who apparently enjoys pain and suffering, this year I have signed up to the Ration Challenge. The idea is, during National Refugee Week you try to live off the same rations as a Syrian refugee living in a camp in Jordan – so a bit shy of 2kg of rice, and then small amounts of flour, chickpeas, lentils, kidney beans, fish and oil. And that’s it. It is Bleak, Tumblrs. I am an entire moron.
Obviously, it is a fundraising activity, and they encourage fundraising quite cleverly – if you can get certain amounts, you “earn” certain extra rations (reflecting how refugees can sometimes get little extra amounts from volunteers, or NGOs, or finding work locally). I set a target of maybe £100, thinking that would be a fair amount. What I did not realise until after I’d signed up and locked myself into the whole thing – and what a happy memory this discovery was – is that YOU DON’T EVEN UNLOCK SALT UNTIL YOU HIT £125.
Anyway, I am currently on £290, thanks to some incredibly generous friends and family. This has earned me one (1) spice of my choice, salt, and 170g of a vegetable. If I can raise another £110, though, I can have 170g of protein! Like... An Egg.*
So... please sponsor me for my egg. PLEASE sponsor me for my egg. I am desperate for more flavour, and indeed nutrition, since the coloric content of the rations is 1700 per day, which is, you know. Too low. Also, the money goes to real refugees, which ultimately is considerably more important than my comfort for one week.
The link is here; I will let you all know how I get on (whether you want me to or not.) Thank you all, pray for Elanor.
*It will not be an egg, because I hate them. It will be a single chicken thigh (so I can boil the bones for stock) or half a handful of lamb mince (so I can make “koftas”).

During Refugee Week in June, I will be taking part in the #RationChallenge. For one week I will be eating the same rations as a Syrian refugee to raise awareness and fundraise to provide food, medicine and education for those who have fled and are living in camps in Jordan.
If you or anyone you know is passionate about this cause, please share this post and jump onto my fundraising page - any contribution no matter how small will help.
I also have an Instagram where I will be posting updates and meals made with the rations - @tmrationcchallenge

Hey, guys.
I asked awhile back if anyone could donate and I understand that maybe it isn't in your budget so if you can reblog that would be great.
I'm doing the ration week challenge to raise awareness for refugees who have fled their country and now live with the bare minimum of food rations.
I will spend the next 7 days eating the same rations to hopefully raise awareness, that not only have these people lost everything, they also have barely enough food to feed their family.
Thanks.

I’ll explain the photo in a moment. But first, I have something else to say. At this point I have raised over THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS for people who deserve better. I am number four in the world for this organization. That’s sad. $3000 isn’t a lot of money. We have so much more work to do. I can’t force you to give. I can only make you *want* to. After this week, I can tell you what hunger is like. I can tell you what food insecurity is like. I can tell you what the lack of nutrients is like. It’s terrible and no way to live. I’m not a praying woman. But I pray that something gets fixed. Because this world is really, really broken. . . This isn’t going to look delicious to you. I assure you, it’s EXTREMELY delicious to me. It’s all I had the energy to cook. . . This is the first dinner I’ve had at the end of the @cws_global #rationchallenge - I have a long run tomorrow, and I really can’t keep functioning on rice. Especially the day after a race. So I chose to end my challenge a meal early. This is black bean pasta, sautéed cabbage with onions, cashew cream, and sautéed soy protein (soy curls, for my UK friends!). . . This week was unspeakably hard for me. I am someone who eats as whole-food, plant-based as possible. I felt AWFUL. The more I ran, the more yoga and strength work I did, I felt worse. . . So although this looks HORRIBLE, understand it’s damned tasty compared to plain white flour and white rice. . . While my personal ration challenge may be over, the fundraising isn’t. Refugees aren’t living a one-week challenge. Many of them have been living on this food for a decade. A. Decade. That’s a quarter of my life. That ain’t cool. I cannot stress this enough. . https://my.rationchallengeusa.org/suzannenelson https://www.instagram.com/p/BzCKgrdpOdi/?igshid=12qg6vpx31vs5

I've just kicked off my fundraising
I’m taking the Ration Challenge and eating the same rations as a Syrian refugee living in a camp for one week. I’ve just kicked off my fundraising with £34 to publicly show my own support for refugees and this cause. Will you consider supporting me? I’d love your support! You can support me at this link: https://my.rationchallenge.org.uk/verityjohnston.

Day 5 of the Ration Challenge
So I was adding up how many calories I am on average consuming a day this week... the most I’ve consumed is 500 in a day! That’s crazy to me, I’m definitely feeling it. I’ve been moody, sleeping light, and hangry.
The meals I’ve had so far are:
Lentil soup (disaster)
Rice pudding (yum!)
Plain rice w/ tuna
Falafel w/ garlic powder
Flatbread w/ sugar
I can’t wait to have some eggs with avocado 🥑

Ration Challenge: Day 1
Breakfast was plain congee, which is to say, rice that I turned into wallpaper paste. It was Not Good. Lunch was mujadara, and BOY HOWDY am I glad I unlocked a vegetable, because that onion tasted incredible but as I only have 170g of it I basically had about one cubic centimetre of it.
Tea was rice. Just rice.
Also I worked all day today, and I got hungry, I have to say; that was the biggest problem. Shame, because it meant my tolerance for idiots in escape rooms dropped through the floor. By three games in I think Jade could tell. "Can we let seven people in a room?" she asked brightly. "Get fucked," I graciously replied.
Thanks to all my sponsors, the extras I've earned have made today possible. I've made paprika oil and lemon oil, and those have been precious mana from heaven worth their weight in gold, frankly, because wow there is no flavour without them and the food offers such little pleasure I wish I was in a coma. I also saved a small amount of congee for tea, and added a teaspoon of sugar and the juice from a sixteenth of a lemon, which gave me a sort of rice pudding to have something sweet, which I devoured with the voraciousness of mould on wet bread.
This is Bleak. Concerned I am going to have lemon- and paprika-based trauma by the end.

Tumblr, hello!
I'm doing the #rationchallenge to raise awareness for refugees.
I have been given a box of food that must last me a full week. I will leave a picture at the bottom of this post of what I have to eat.
Each donation I receive will earn me rewards in the form of spices and veggies and possibly even meat for the week.
This is about learning what people are given to eat and how they survive after fleeing for their lives.
This is to show refugees we are with them NOT against them.
If could donate that would be great, if not please show your support and reblog this.
Thank you.
Food for the week:

As I sit here working on this meager lunch of bland chickpea-rice patties masquerading as falafel, I am proud to say that I can easily power through it. Wanna know why? 🥁🥁:::drumroll, please::: 🥁 🥁 . . I was tipped off today that you guys have made me NUMBER 23 IN THE WORLD for individual fundraisers for the #rationchallenge ! I am awed and humbled by the strength of my family, friends, customers, and fans. I am SO proud of you for helping me achieve these goals! . . I didn’t even know this was a thing! But yeah, there are leaderboards. Given my nature to be a liiiiitttttle bit competitive, it means I am going to work just THAT much harder to see how well we can do. It’s a bittersweet position, really. I’ve only raised $1400 by myself. If that puts me at #23 on a board that caps out at #701, we need to do better. That’s not enough to feed and clothe people. . . Why don’t you be the one to save a life and bump me up a few numbers? . . https://my.rationchallengeusa.org/suzannenelson https://www.instagram.com/p/By5zWN2pAk_/?igshid=1tpup4pt19xlr

Our final lunch of the Ration Challenge! Flatbread, rice crackers and hummus. As many of you know, this week, I've been eating the same rations at hat a Syrian refugee eats in Jordan. It's been tough and a serious education in lots of ways! I've thought of the hopes and dreams of these people and have persevered because of them. The challenge will be over for me tomorrow but for many of these refugees, the end could still be a long way off. If any of you would like to support them by sponsoring me, there is still time and I, and the refugees, will be so grateful! Thank you so much again for all those of you who've already donated. It is sooo appreciated! 🙏❤️ https://www.rationchallenge.org.uk/deirdre-mac-innes I know that when I finish the challenge, I'll still be thinking about all of the refugees around the world who, come tomorrow, will have no choice but to continue to survive on rations and who, unlike us, can't just return home to the people they love, and eat what they want. #rationingfood #rations #rationing #rationchallenge #refugees #service #lovethyneighbor #lovethyneighbour #charityneverfails #charity #Love #helping #helpingothers #survivor #survive #endure #persevere #perseverence #home #challenges #challenge #righttolive #righttolivewithdignity #flatbread #flatbreads #homemade #homemadefood #loveneverfails #bekind #choosekindness https://www.instagram.com/p/CQoU88FrqF7/?utm_medium=tumblr
