Cacotre workshop studio, in Ravenna the home of some of the best mosaicists in Italy, still working in this ancient 2D art form steeped in tradition , yet now delivered with a contemporary touch. These guys are legends in their field and their work is awe inspiring. Hours and hours of hand cutting and tesserae placement with the three of them working together over the past ten years. Like some cool rock star group... or more like a shared pain therapy trio... the back and shoulder and neck aches not to mention the thousands of tiny cuts from glass shards... I wonder how much blood ? Fingerprints have been changed apparently due to this!! This is what it takes folks to be an artist ....blood,sweat and tears day in day out, but look at that pretty sculpture, that perfect contemporary mosaic in blue, I'm in love with it. Twinkling away with beautiful colour and movement. Well worth all that physical torture 😂. Great mentoring session with Giusseppe that day, with me pestering him with endless questions and I was so proud when he saw my little matchstick and plasticine Marquettes and approved it with a , "brava". Quick word to the wise it is Marquette in Italian too and not marquetta which apparently means money you give to a prostitute ... good to know!! Uber chilled session and to make the acquaintance of baby Ada and her Mum Mona.
