One and Two went so smoothly. He’s gotten more than a little overzealous, overconfident,overly relaxed.

He stands at the heart of Reactor Three as it pulls the first of the mako up from the earth, the acrid scent filling the room, and his eyes shine with pride. Pride that wells up inside of him, In his chest. It bubbles, it, it burns, it’s-

It’s mako.

The realization strikes Reeve so sudden and sharp he gasps and falls backwards. He lands on the metal floor as a few of the workers shout and crowd him.

Reeve stares upwards at the metal ceiling. The mako surged upwards, the lights are blinding, the electrify hums and sings and greets him like a puppy. It is full of life he had meant to deny it.

But his pride has become too much. It had overflowed out of him and into this grand machine of progress.
