And we’re judged like hell for it, or people look down their noses at us because romance novels are somehow not reputable books. Here’s the deal though.. you watch love stories on the screen, and you thoroughly enjoy and embrace them, but if a writer describes it on a page, it’s deemed cheesy, porn, inappropriate, or even taboo.. when all they’re doing is writing out what you would eventually watch (and love) on the screen anyway. Throw in the fact that romance novels usually tell the story of strong women or every day women finding their voice and their strength, embracing the fantasies or desires, and calling the shots and having the power.. then I don’t see the issue or understand the eye-rolling. August is Read a Romance Month (RARM).

Gag me. I've never been a fan of this genre, but my mother sure was. She loved historical romance novels...a lot. So in honor of her and RARM, in August, I've decided to read/reread 6 of the most popular historical romances ever written.

In order to make my quest more palatable, and because it's so freakin' hot, I've included the ice cream flavors that were inspired by these classics. Who can resist Mr. Darcy's Dairy Confectionery, inspired, of course, by Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice?

I hit a roadblock in my #quarantinereading for a minute. My focus has been shot lately. And then #GIRLGONEVIRAL came along and broke the stall. Things are scary in the world currently. And we're all trying to find ways to cope with being distant from each other. Human contact and interaction are necessities. But social distancing doesn't have to be emotional distancing. Books for me have always been more than just something to occupy my time or to escape into. Books truly do connect us.
