🌿BOOK REVIEW🌿 Educated by Tara Westover • Let me tell you a story. I picked this up in July and after 100 pages or so I put it down. I didn’t feel like reading and I knew that if I pushed myself I would end up hating it. I picked it up once more for the NEWTs readathon and started it again. It was the right decision and I flew through it. • This is possibly one of the most harrowing and brutal books I’ve ever read and to think that everything Tara tell us was real makes it even harder to process. She was born into a survivalist Mormon family but as she tells at the beginning, this book is not about religion. The way Tara was brought up is not only because her parents were Mormon but because her dad was mentally ill and her mother just went along with his terrible decisions. Awful things happen to Tara and her family but because of her father things are even worse. However, I found myself angry not at the father (at the end of the day he was mentally ill) but at her mother, whose actions (looking the other way basically) sometimes hurt her children more than anything else. • Tara’s writing is so vivid and thoughtful and weirdly enough, hopeful. I felt such pain reading about her life and by the end of it I was a hot teary mess. This is a book worth the hype. • • Have you read this book?
