I'll admit I'm a little curious, who did you end up choosing to romance in CS4?

Also, have you seen this before at all? (No, Crow, Vivi, Rosine and Claire are not in there)

I am very much about Rean x Laura since CS1 and 2, so she was my choice. I just felt that she and Rean had the best chemistry back when I was going through CS1 and 2 due to having major common ground in their interest in swordsmanship and their similar personalities and that stuck, especially their Bonding Events in CS4.

But she did have some strong competition from the options, that being:

Fie (I just really love all of her Bonding Events in all of the games with how she just opens up to Rean, which makes her developing feelings for Rean understandable and really sweet),

Sara (I wasn’t 100% onboard in CS1 and 2 but her and Rean’s interactions and Bonding Events in CS3 and 4 really convinced me of their chemistry as a potential couple and that Sara really developed feelings for Rean now that they’re equals and no longer teacher and student),

Towa (just all of their Bonding Events in all 4 games are really sweet together),

Emma (for their Events in 2, 3 and 4, because I was a bit biased towards Emma when I was going through 1 because I thought she knew the full picture of what the hell was going on in 1 but didn’t tell anyone which frustrated me but in 2 it was explained that she only knew about the Old Schoolhouse being a trial to become Valimar’s Awakener and it would not have mattered if she told us or not which got rid of my frustration)

And Juna (admittedly she was frustrating at times in 3 but I found it understandable considering what happened to Crossbell, the SSS and her backstory for being kicked out of the Crossbell police academy for speaking out against that Erebonian instructor smearing the SSS, but her Bonding Events in 4 where she was slowly coming to realise that she has in fact fallen in love with Rean was really cute to, student-teacher thing aside)

Plus, I know she isn’t a romance option, but I just really love Rean and Claire’s whole relationship throughout all 4 games, that scene of meeting in the bar in 1, 2 establishing that whole using Rean as replacement for her little brother in their Bonding Event, how their interactions became awkward at the end of 2 and throughout 3 transitioning Claire to no longer view Rean as a replacement for her younger brother and their very complicated relationship in 4 where they are enemies because Claire is sided with Osborne but they still very much care for each other.

Plus, I found Rean’s interactions with Rosine really cute too.

Gift to… @iloyd-bannings! Happy birthday Aponi! I’m sorry this is so short and that it’s not a full fic ;-; Still, I hope you enjoy this despite how rushed it is! ^^; (This is Zilver’s writing account btw, in case you didn’t know :D)

Trying to balance teaching and saving the world left Rean very stressed out. Luckily for him, he wasn’t alone. Towa made sure to help out and fill in for him every time he was too tired to teach.

This backfired on him though, as the swordsman eventually noticed the growing bags under her eyes. He tried to confront her multiple times about it, but the constant nauseating headaches he’s been getting always made him backtrack. After all, he didn’t want to worry the already overworked Towa more.

It took New Class VII’s intervention for the couple to realise how much they were straining themselves. They were smart kids—maybe a bit too smart sometimes, but they weren’t about to ignore the sickness their instructors pushed themselves into (even Ash was worried, but he’d hunt you down if he ever heard you saying that).

Juna convinced (more like forced) them to share their workload with New Class VII. They gave in to her demands but tried not to give too much work. The deal ended the moment Ash and Altina snatched and dashed off with big piles of paper from both of their desks. They sat in pure shock and silence before chuckling it off together.

The couple eventually decided to work together with New Class VII and made a plan to make things more efficient.

“Good job out there, Rean! I’ll take over for now, if that’s okay?” Towa says, walking over to his desk while carrying a stack of paper. It was her load of work for the day and she had finished it all.

Rean puts down his pen as he yawns, stretching his arms above his head after a few hours of constantly writing in the same position. He turns to Towa and lazily waves a hand at her. She chuckles and returns the wave.

Gently putting the pile on his desk, she puts a hand up to her boyfriend’s forehead to check his temperature. He stares up at her with an eyebrow raised.

“Lukewarm… doesn’t seem to be hot enough for a fever,” she mumbles, “maybe you should take a nap for now.”

Rean’s eyes widen after her words. He pushes her hand away hurriedly, but gently. “No no no! It’s okay, Towa! I’m fine—“

A stern glare from the short instructor causes him to stop talking. A cute pout slowly makes it way to her face and his rushed expression softened to a smile.

Towa sighs and takes off her instructor’s coat. She drapes it across his arched back then nudges his head towards his desk.

“Wha—?”

“Sleep! You need it after working so hard everyday!”

“I should be saying that to you!”

Rean puts his arms up in surrender as his head is squished against the desk, courtesy of his girlfriend. She relents and ruffles his hair up—no doubt revenge from all those times he did the same to her.

He crosses his arms on the desk and lays his head down on it. He takes one last look at Towa before closing his eyes.

“Mmmm… goodnight, Towa…”

He’s fast asleep before he even knows it, and misses the hug Towa gives him from the side.

“Sweet dreams, Rean…”

Sometimes I feel like one of the reasons for replaying this game is simply being angry at this boy for choosing to use those powers in situations where it might not have even been necessary.

(By the way, I did play Dragon Quest Builder 2 yesterday, but nothing happened that was worth mentioning as I was mostly... well... building and gathering materials ^^’ Just for your Information.)

Him. Just him being himself is worth replaying this game again and again and again. And who would not have missed the bard Oliver Lenheim? XD

You know... I’ve watched the Northern War Anime yesterday and one thing is for certain when it comes to Rean. He will ALWAYS protect people, no matter who they are. Seeing that here once again, is just one more reason to replay this game.

Hearing people talk about Rean like this, knowing all his good and bad sides, makes replaying this game worth your while too. Never hurts to understand that the character you love, is the way he is.

This scene XD I do not like Musse as you know, but I love how she knows to push peoples buttons.

The fact that this scene is a complete plothole if you go back to the train and actually listen to new class 7 listen to Reans recording. Because no one was standing infront of that door, shortly before the message was over. Not to mention afterwards, I talked with Musse outside of the train. BUT finding things like that can also make it worth replaying that game XD

You might want to tell me that I have a questionable tendency to like characters I shouldn’t but seeing Vita again is also something I am happy about and so once again, its a reason to replay this game. (And like the rollercoaster of emotions that is this chapter.)

That is another plothole. You may have noticed that Crows body and face has matured, which would make sense given its been roughly two years and everyone else has matured as well HOWEVER Crow is dead, he is an immortal and the Steel Maiden has been “alive” as an immortal for a VERY long time and has not aged one bit. Meaning that as an immortal, you should stay in the state you were in when you reawakened, which is basically the state you were in when you died, given that your body won’t age anymore after that. So Azure Siegfried here, should look exactly the same way he did at the end of CS2. If you replay games a few times, just like with Final Fantasy X you have more time to think about stuff like that, which is, once again, a good reason to replay it.

The fact that Towas heart immediately knew that it was Crow, even tho it obviously doesn’t make sense at this point that he is alive.

With Olivert, it took a few people A LOT longer too recognize him, even tho he barely changed anything but his outfit and his hairstyle (not that he never has his hair open in public either) so the only reason to not recognize that Olivier is prince Olivert, is the fact that you would doubt that he would run around with some seemingly random people in Crossbell without any guards around while he should have been leading the inspection-team. When it comes to looks tho, he barely has changed. Crow on the other hand, has matured, his Hairstyle is different, his voice is deeper and he is wearing a Mask that on top of the fact that he died infront of our very eyes, should be enough to make sure no one would believe its Crow, despite the still obvious similarities and the hints thrown in from McBurn and Vita. However, everyone immediately felt that it was him. Makes you wonder if it is simply because the people dealing with Olivert missed the connection class 7 had with Crow. However it is a interesting observation to make in an replay of the game.

Rean putting Alisa first, despite the inner turmoil he must be going through himself right now. 

It was funny tho, when you play this game for the first time, you do wonder what hit Alisa so hard, given that her relationship with Crow wasn’t deeper than most peoples. That she had recognized her fathers voice, is something you only get when you play this game again.

Three ships: I don’t really spend a lot of time thinking about that and don’t take it seriously when I do. I guess Inugami Korone X Okayu Nekomata (V-tubers), they’re great friends in real life and have a lot of cute moments together in their videos. Even less serious would be.. Mori Calliope X Kiara Takanashi (V-tubers), it’s a funny thought, a grim reaper and a phoenix getting together. They also play along with it so it’s all in good fun. Lastly, i’d say Rean Schwarzer X Fie Claussell from the Trails of Cold Steel series. Not exactly a canon pairing, but I think the short, awkward, adorable but badass Fie is a great pick for the MC. Unfortunately in the last 3 games they could only be “good friends” so I doubt that will change in the 4th.  (Though if pressed for character that is available to date i’d go Towa all the way. She’s awesome too in a different way.)

Last song: This is very difficult for me because like the person who tagged me, I don’t really listen to music recreationally. I’ll pop on the Doom 2016 soundtrack once in a blue moon.. but hmm.. To be totally honest the last “song” I heard was Gawr Gura’s background music. The last one I purposefully looked up was likely “Powdered Milk Man” by The Aquabats.

Last movie: I just binged a bunch of horror movies the other night. #Alive, The Wailing, The Babysitter and The Babysitter Killer Queen.  #Alive and The Wailing are pretty good Korean horror films.  The Babysitter 1 and 2 were great shlocky horror comedies with lots of blood.

Currently reading: I’m on book 6 of “How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom.” An isekai light novel series where a student studying government gets summoned to a fantasy world and made king. He must solve the food crisis, civil war, war with a neighboring country, and sort out the horrible debt the previous royal family left everything in. It’s a fun series without having an OP hero. (Not that I dislike those.)

Currently watching: Not watching any series at the moment. I have a list of other movies to watch sometime. Get out, Us, VVitch, Train to Busan Penninsula, Atomic Blond, and a bunch more.

Currently playing: Finishing up the Dread X Collection 2, I have 3 games left to beat in the 12 game collection. After that I might finally start up Trails of Cold Steel 4, gotta see if Fie is romancable yet. lol

Currently craving: I’m not really craving any food in particular right now. I think in a few days i’ll really want Thai food. My actual “craving” is a lot more serious, and that is to not be sick with Covid anymore.

So, I’ve finally finished Trails of Cold Steel 3

Um, spoilers. Massive spoilers. Allllll the spoilers.

...What the fuck was that ending?! Like, that cliffhanger was even worse than the one in the first game! Oh god, if they don’t bring Trails of Cold Steel 4 here, I’m going to be infinitely pissed off.

That being said, some general thoughts:

1. Nice to see that the redux of the motorboat incident did not turn to be shit like it did in the first game. I ran into a post asking why folks hated Alisa, but not Juna for the same thing. There’s a slight thing that I don’t think folks realize, and I’m going to bold it for emphasis: When Juna apologized to Kurt, she never brought it up again. Alisa kept bringing it up, even after she apologized. There. That’s the difference. It made Alisa sound like a hypocrite and made her apology worthless whereas Juna’s apology turned out to be far more sincere and meaningful.

2. Gaius finally got some characterization and I am beyond glad for it. He spent two full games just being there, but now, he’s actually faced some change and some growth. I am beyond impressed with how he has changed and it honestly made me want to use him in battle way more.

3. Cedric is the fucking worst. I get where he’s coming from in terms of never wanting to be weak ever again, but he is seriously an asshole and I would’ve loved to kick his ass in this game to take him and his sanctimonious attitude down several pegs. Oh well. Probably next time.

4. I love all of the new Class VII, with Musse and Ash probably being my favorites. It took me a little bit to warm up to Juna after The Motorboat Incident II: Electric Boogaloo, but by the end of the first half of the 2nd Chapter, I was on board with her and loved her immensely.

5. If there is a negative to this game, I would honestly say that I could nickname it Exposition Dump III: The Final Dimension because... hoo boy, this game’s cut scenes and explanations can go on for-fucking-ever, even with high-speed on. It doesn’t help that what the game explains is important because some of us (like myself) haven’t played the other Trails games and two of those games haven’t even made it to the States as of yet (and those games have everything to do with the incidents in Crossbell), so the exposition is absolutely needed to explain everything.

6. Bless Evergreens, the X-Stregas, the Zeus Gem, and enough Evade gems for turning Kurt into a Fie 2.0 easily. Pair him up with Fie set up close to how he is set up and they’re both lethal and dangerous. Out of all of Class VII, he was my favorite to play with, just because he was built for speed. 

7. What is Musse’s deal? Rean has her pretty pegged as some of skilled player in Xanatos Speed Chess or something along those lines. The fact that she’s actually an heiress to the most powerful Noble family in this game only makes her more dangerous than pegged. But I have to admit that putting the focus on her and making her look more suspicious did draw some attention away from Ash. I was expecting her to be a witch, given her suspicions and knowledge. Turns out she’s not, but damn, well played, Musse. I’m still wondering what your deal is.

8. Osbourne is one evil, rotten son of a demon and I can’t wait to kick his ass either.

9. Fuck George and his evil ass. Please let me kick his ass next game too, for Towa’s sake.

10. When are Crow and Rean getting married? And if not them, I’m expecting marriage between either Rean and Elliot or Rean and Emma, maybe even Rean and Gaius? (No, seriously, that character development made him rise to the top to the point that I kind of ship Rean with Gaius now). Then again, I’m pretty much on Team Anyone Else but Alisa or Elise.

Those are my thoughts.

Fluff, comfort, family found or otherwise and friendships are always a go. Jowd family and extended family--as they absorb the people around them--good times. Spooky ghost shenanigans, mysteries in the night. Holiday fun times. Sissel and/or Missile doing stuff with anyone here is great. I’m a softy for Cabanela and Missile, our two loyal guardians. But what about Alma and Missile? Or Jowd and Missile? Etc.

 Heheh, alright, I get to talk about my ToCS OTP for Rean! Alright, here we go.

4) Do you prefer canon ideas or do you have your own headcanons for them? - I’m gonna have to say I prefer canon ideas. I don’t really delve into headcanons all that much, to be frank. Doesn’t bother me, though, as the canon approach with these two is good for me.

5) Favorite canon moment of them?- Hmm, this is tough since the romance routes for everyone are technically non-canon. So if we’re going with the regular canon, one of my favorite moments would probably have to be when Sara calls Rean after he gets his routine with the Student Council squared away. She basically tells him that she can already tell that he’s trying to find himself and gives him some pretty sound advice for that task. Despite her appearance and not knowing him for that long, she basically already has him pegged and is hard at work at helping him out. Another favorite moment of mine would probably be the *SPOILERS, I GUESS* kiss she gives him on the cheek in CS3… Because it’s CANON!

6) Least favorite canon moment of them?- …Hmmm… Come to think of it, I can’t really think of many canon moments of these two that I would say are my least favorite. I legit can’t think of any right now, sorry! (Though, that might be because I’m tired as all hell at the moment).

14) Is there a pairing that you think rivals them?- In general terms, for the record, I don’t really compare ships from different fandoms to each other. It’s just never been a thing for me. In Cold Steel terms, I’d have to say not really. But Rean x Laura IS a close second. With Rean x Fie being third, and Rean x Towa being fourth, as well.

19) On an estimate, how many posts have you made about them? - Huh. I guess this would probably be the first one, actually.
