✦Zed, the Master of Shadows; taking his mask off.

Only with you Zed doesn’t mind taking his mask, that usually stays on him, off. In every long and exhausting mission that he participates in, in every training with adepts of the Shadow Order, he prefers to keep his mask on. He does that not only to appear more professional for his students nor to stay quite anonymous, but secretly, deep inside, what only you know, he does not desire to be identified with the majestic yet murderous figure he has created. His armor is both his shield on the bloody battlefield where many dies, but also something distancing him from other people. He is there for them physically, but offers none of his simple humanity. But with you and only you, he - with a lot of effort (a little help with opening up from you was always appreciated by him) - lets his guard down. Though he seldom does that, mostly when all his problems eventually overwhelm him. The moment is always intimate, in his private room, when he takes his mask off, his sharp gaze fixed on you or the floor. That was not the first time you saw his face, but you couldn’t help but admire him. You gently took his face in your hands with a delicate and slow move, as a hidden for so long tear rolled from his eye. Besides his mask, in those rare moments, Zed tends to take off his armor too, so you can see his bare back, sculped with scares and black, sinister-looking tattoos - a painful memory of his past and the power that the unmerciful shadows wield in themselves.

✦Shen, the Eye of Twilight; devoting his time to you.

Shen is a kind man to everybody. With his esteemed reputation as a defender of Ionia, the keeper of balance that everyone lurks for in this land, everyone respects him. He is a patient teacher to every person, his student or not, and he is always there for them. That’s why he is a trustworthy leader that everyone can find comfort in - and you know exactly about this. As much as he is an anchor for his loved ones, you are so, so special for him, that he obviously treats you with a different kind of respect than others. Shen tries to be always by your side, usually sliding a reasurring hand on your back if you are comfortable with it, to make you feel that he is there for you, ready to both protect and give himself fully - either to open up or just comfort each other, rest and appreciate the others’ company. Shen lets his small moves that he only gifts to you slid when you are both alone or when he thinks nobody sees you two - not because he wants to keep your relationship a secret, but he feels like these moments with you are only for you two. Nobody should bother or distract you - that’s the irreplacable time he dedicates to give you his full attention.

✦Kayn, the Shadow Reaper; letting himself be vunerable around you.

As the successor of the Shadow Order and Zed’s mightiest student, Kayn carries on his back expectations of both his surrounding and himself. And, in addittion, the Darkin, a curse that lives in him. But when alone, only you two, disturbed only by Rhaast and his presumptuousness, he lets himself be just him. Gentle and quite lazy, as he tends to lay with his head on your lap while taking almost all the space on his own bed. Kayn secretly enjoys you taking care of him, letting you see his vunerable and sweet side. When far from ubiquitous gazes, where you can get some privacy, the Shadow Reaper feels no longer like being forced to challenge everyone in his sight or proving them that he is worthy of becoming the next Master of Shadows. You put no pressure on him, you understand him as no one else does, and he appreciates your every move, when you show him how comfortable he can be around you. And you, the only person that treats him gently, see him as a normal human being he is. So even when you stroke his silk, dark hair with slow moves and soft hands, that next slide down to hold his face in them, he is not disturbed by Rhaast muttering about Kayn’s weakness. Because he is not weak when with you. He is just himself.

✦Thresh, the Chain Warden; sharing his story with you.

Because how obsessive Thresh is and how he can push himself to manipulate everyone and everything for his beloved one, some might think this man is actually not capable of love, at least not a healthy kind of it. And maybe it is true; maybe the connection between you two is none of an exemplary illustration portrayed by others, but there’s one thing that assures you Thresh’s intentions are clear and, actually, lovely. This man of course would never admit this willingly, maybe only to make you flustrated, but he has showed you his gargantuan collection of souls not only to impress you. He wants you to understand why are they trapped there, where he can toy with them, forcing them to face their merciful owner. They are in here not only because he is a sadistic soulkeeper - which was a surprise for you - but because they heve to suffer like he did. You are the only one, only one alive, who has been priviliged with the knowledge of his past - how the whole Blessed Isles betrayed him and how he has sworn to bring retribution on those who dared opposing him. He shared his story with you while walking past the cages, countless souls screaming inside for justice. Thresh appreciates what a good listener you make and how you seem to not judge him, based on the person he was long way before.

✦Pyke, the Bloodharbor Ripper; assuring you with simple words.

This man knows better than anyone else how is it like to be betrayed by others. Well, he paid his life for understanding that trust is a powerful weapon; that it should not be given so easly to people. Pyke struggles with something that you might call trust issues, though he would never admit that something so trivial might affect him so much. Neverthless, you were the first person after his, well, death, to hear from him that he truly trusts you. As straightforward as he is, Pyke frequently mutters to you something about how much he trusts you and how important it is to him. It would be almost adorable to hear such words from a ruthless killer with a soft spot for you, if it wasn’t just upsetting how a betrayal can break a man. Eventually, nothing says more than simple and particular words which come with honest intencions; he does not hide that he wants you to feel special about being able to read him like a book. You earned this man’s trust and he show that in such simple acts, like just letting you around him, which is not a priviledge every mortal may possess, as Pyke is know for his… strong reputation in Bilgewater.

Lucifer - Reinhardt + Sigma

- He does not find video games appealing at all. But for you he’s willing to give it a try. He learns pretty fast, and after a while in his very little free time he ranks up to Master.

- For some reason he can’t manage to get to grandmaster or higher, and it HURTS his pride so much 😭

- He’s a Reinhardt main, a true classic. But he frequently also plays Sigma! The tank role is his favorite. It’s the most important role in his eyes, so it makes sense that he takes control and shields the team.

- Is pretty good callouts wise, slightly toxic if you go against the plan though. 💀

Mammon - Baptiste

- rank ~ Gold

- I KNOW Baptiste is a support but Mammon DOES NOT use him as one. Maybe that’s why he’s hard stuck gold (and the fact that he rarely gets a kill) 💀 The only person he’s supporting is himself (and maybe you too if you praise him a lil)

-Gives terrible callouts too, that is if he even joins voice chat 😒

- He’s spent days trying to get to at least diamond but he just can’t. Levi makes fun of him hardcore for it too. Please reassure him that it’s okay for him to be in gold ☹️

Leviathan - Dva + Genji

- I could see him rank 1 but I can’t decide for what role. 🧐

- Levi is a flex role. He prefers tank or dps, but he has no issues with playing support either. If you give him puppy dog eyes he’ll be your pocket Mercy.

- He is the only Genji main in 2024 history to get a team wipe with dragon blade 💀 He also really likes Dva because she’s fun and a gamer like him 🥹

- SO GOOD WITH CALLOUTS A LITERAL PRO

- does Overwatch League take applications from hell?

- He isn’t too toxic but if anyone is toxic towards you he’ll be as mean as possible. Also challenges assholes in 1v1s and makes you a spectator. Just so you can watch him kick their ass 😎

Satan - Kiriko + Brigitte

- Satan could easily be higher if he really wanted to but he doesn’t really care.

- Cat girls enough said. Okayyyyy I know Kiriko ultimate is a kitsune but close enough.

- You’re probably sitting here like “vee brig isn’t a cat girl though?” Yes you’re technically right but she has a cat and that’s all that matters.

- Satan is a toxic brigitte/kiriko main, how iconic of him 🤩

- He’s good with callouts, but his account has been suspended multiple times for roasting the hell outta his “incompetent” teammates.

Simeon - Mercy

- This man is TERRIBLE with technology. Did you really expect him to be anything higher than the lowest rank?

- Yes he mains Mercy cause she’s a “guardian angel.” Also because as an angel he believes it is his duty to protect you. He is 100% your pocket mercy, even if you’re also a support.

- Callouts? What are callouts? Someone help this man. Even if you’re giving out the best callouts it doesn’t matter because he will still die. He does NOT understand a single thing you’ve said. Poor guy 😭

Thirteen - Ashe + Widowmaker

- Why those characters you may be asking? Because they serve cunt and so does Thirteen. It only makes sense for her to play the baddest bitches in the whole game 🥰

- She did not intend to get so high rank wise, she barely even plays the game 😭

- If you’re a Mercy main she expects you to pocket her. What about your other teammates? Nah don’t worry she’s got head shots for days. Your Ana can handle the rest of the team.

- She really doesn’t gaf about rank, she prefers quick play honestly. Her being a reaper takes up a lot of time so quick play is better for her time wise.

- She does pretty good callouts, sometimes she’ll make a passive aggressive remark to one of her teammates. But nothing too toxic.

ToShiro jealous of Karin headcanons?

Oh, wow! 😮 Let's see...

This all takes place in my HK spin-off sequel ideas when they're in the teen stage...

I can imagine him being the type to brood over it, like if he witnesses Karin getting hit on, but it's not necessarily his business to butt in, then he'd just pretend not to care. He'd busy himself with something while his internal feelings of jealousy simmer underneath the surface. Anyone who comes across him will notice something seems off, but don't know why & would rather not bother him. Maybe there's an aura about him 🤭. He doesn't realize why he starts to feel this way initially, though.

Let's say he's pretending to be a student again in high school (like in the OG Bleach), & he starts to notice the attention Karin gets from other boys. The stares, the praises for her athleticism & high academic scores, whispers about them wanting to shoot their shot with her, etc. Some might even see her as a challenge & want to be the ones to win her over. Hitsu would start to feel a bit bothered by all this the more he gets to know her, but thinks, 'Hmph, as if she'd give a second thought to those bozos.'

His opinion of her is rather high, so he trusts her better judgment. Though, that still doesn't stop him from feeling a little worried every time he overhears a boy planning to ask her out at the back of the school. It isn't until she meets him at the front gates so he can walk her home, when she says she had to politely reject yet another guy, that he feels an internal relief. He doesn't really know why but it feels like another silent victory of sorts.

He may or may not notice how other boys look at him whenever he's with Karin. Maybe at times, he feels a little smug, especially when her attention is solely on him, & other boys glare at him resentfully.

This can also apply to the scenario in which she's a Soul Reaper in his division. She's fairly new, but obviously she's leagues above most others. Hitsu admires her tenacity & the way she radiates whenever she's focused. He's not the only one who's noticed this; he's caught his men once or twice looking her way interestedly. It didn't bother him necessarily, only made his eyes roll. But one day, when the recruits are training at the dojo, Hitsu comes by to check on them & once again witnesses Karin excel. She really does stand out among the rest. And it was here that it finally hit him just how much attention Karin gets from his men. Glances, praises, & asking for tips.

He knows she's popular in his division (as well as the others, if he's being honest) but it isn't only because she's continuing the legacy of the Kurosaki-Shibas. There's more to Karin & he isn't the only one who's noticed. She's friendly & willing to help. Intelligent, brave, & fun to be around. She... was not unpleasant to look at; he's not blind, for God's sake.

And yet, the sudden bout of knowledge that he's not alone in his thoughts irritates him for some reason & decides to step in. He offers to help those recruits instead, deciding he will not go easy on them. It isn't often that he leads a training session, since as the captain, he has more important duties. But he decides that he doesn't have much work due until tomorrow & gives the dojo instructor the rest of the day off. During training, he's a little stricter than usual with the men in particular & Karin can't help being secretly mesmerized by his teaching mode. She is oblivious to his internal conflicts & to her own feelings for that matter.

All in all, I think Hitsugaya may be the type to be oblivious about his feelings at first, & won't realize why he feels irritation by other men approaching Karin with intentions beyond friendship & camaraderie. When he does realize it, he'll try to be in denial, but his discomfort may still be obvious to some even if they can't pinpoint why.

I hadn't thought much about this before but this is what I was able to come up with for now. Hope it somewhat answers your question, anon! 😄

I'm kinda productive lately, so here!

20 min sketch challenge​ with​ my​ discord​ folks. Featuring Genji (Overwatch)​, Caitlyn (Arcane/League Of Legends) and Reaper (Overwatch) 🌟

Got any other teams or positions laid out for that AU? Error, Nightmare, and Cross, perhaps? Potentially Frisk, since they’re the main character? I adore Pokémon AUs, so you’ve caught my interest!

Oh yes! I have! A lot of team ideas in mind!

Error and Nightmare are both members of the Elite Four, with the final member being Reaper. Cross's role is a lot more unclear right now, but the idea I have as of right now is that he's the Director/Headmaster of the academy where Frisk, Aliza, Shamrock, and Stripes are enrolled. Aside from their jobs in the Elite Four, Error is a programmer & the owner of an electric company, Nightmare's an author, and Reaper's an archaeologist.

Again, as a reminder, the inclusion of Mythical Pokemon is subject to change.

Error specializes in Electric-type Pokemon. His team consists of Magnezone, Toxtricity, Alolan Golem (this is also subject to change), Eelektross, Zeraora, and Mega Ampharos. Don't be fooled; even though he's in the Elite Four and owns a whole company, he's still lazy as hell. If you remember Caitlin from Black & White, he's like her- he's literally napping when Frisk goes in to challenge him.

Nightmare specializes in Dark-type Pokemon. His team consists of Hydreigon (pls tell me I spelled it right), Bisharp (might upgrade this to Kingambit), Krookodile, Honchkrow, Drapion, and Mega Tyranitar. As I said, Nightmare doesn't use a Mythical on his team- however, he does still have one. He has a Darkrai.

Reaper specializes in Ghost-type Pokemon. His team consists of Golurk, Chandelure, Mimikyu, Trevenant, Marshadow, and Mega Gengar. Funny enough, since the Elite Four's battle chambers are stylized to reflect their specialization and personality, many challengers mistake him for being a Ground or Rock-type specialist.

Cross is a bit undecided, but since I don't have anyone who specializes in Ice-type Pokemon yet, that's what I'm using for him as of right now. His team consists of Galarian Darmanitan, Mamoswine, Weavile, Aurorus, Cloyster, and Mega Abomasnow.

I actually have all of the Gym Leaders figured out, but this might get a bit long if I add all of them at once, so I'll move onto Frisk. Frisk is a bit difficult to talk about because they're also like a player-insert; they're always changing their team according to whatever strategy is best. So really, it's hard to say they have any set team because they really don't. They're kinda like Ash in that regard.

Shamrock is a trainer, but they're actually aiming to be a performer/contestant, like Dawn, May, and Serena. So their team is built more around beauty and cuteness than battling; it consists of Furfrou, Swanna, Frosmoth, Pawmot, Meowscarada, and Altaria.

Aliza is aiming to become more associated with studies related to Pokemon, like a professor or a nurse. Her team consists of Blissey, Roserade, Mismagius, Rotom, Primarina, and Audino.

Stripes's role is very undecided at the moment, so they might be more of an ordinary rival for Frisk (though, with Frisk's lore, saying they're rivals is a bit of a stretch). Their team consists of Klefkli, Froslass, Flareon, Morpeko, Sylveon, and Lopunny.

I also have some characters who aren't involved with the League or Gyms, such as Mettaton (idol), Napstablook (streamer), and Ccino (cafe man).

warning: the following contains spoilers for pokémon scarlet/violet

aether and i actually had some errands to run, so instead of doing our usual “let’s walk everywhere on our journey!” routine, we switched it up a bit! after finding a flying taxi, we headed to the town of cortondo, a lovely little place in the south province that we’d briefly visited. and while we were there, we thought, “hey, we can do the gym challenge here while we’re in the area!” sooo, we did!

it was a big surprise to run into nemona again! she swears she isn’t following us around, but it’s getting a little… weird? uncomfortable? sorry nemona! this is a rural area that’s big on farmland, so we didn’t expect to be seeing her here. she seems so… suburban? either way, that aside, she insisted she wasn’t stalking us to beg for a battle, and then sort of let really quickly after?

and so, we are introduced to a neat little tidbit of cortondo culture! the olive roll is both a gym trial and a tradition! by doing completing the challenge, not only do you receive the opportunity to battle the sugarbug of cortondo, katy, but also, you invite good luck for the upcoming olive harvest! and that’s amazingly cool, in my opinion!

the olive roll itself takes place north of town, in a field specially designed for it. you have to push a giant, olive-shaped ball through an obstacle course and into the field at the end! there’s neat ramps and trainers you can battle to take shortcuts, but despite how heavy the olive ball is, i opted to take the long way!

after a good bit of struggling, i managed to get the olive ball to the goal! nice!! i hope the luck between both my and my boyfriend’s challenges yields a fruitful olive harvest! next stop, battling the sugarbug! i hadn’t heard too much about katy other than she specializes in bug-type pokémon, but with a title like that, she sounded quite sweet!

and sweet she is! when i met her, she was feeding one of her vivillion a nice treat. she introduced herself as katy, owner of the soapberry patisserie… but quickly realized she was giving me the wrong introduction. apparently, she’s both a gym leader and a sweets maker! i often forget that gym leaders are just powerful trainers with strong bonds with their pokémon rather than unapproachable, intimidating people known only for their prowess. with both katy and brassius, i’ve been delighted to learn otherwise!

i brought in reaper alone for this battle, confident that he was strong enough to defeat any bug type thrown his way! katy’s nymble and tarountula both fell to him before i knew it. i knew it was a good idea to teach him flamethrower! her last pokémon fit her quite well: a sweet little teddiursa! defeating the terrastilized bear was not as easy, but reaper handled it well!

after the victory, she presented us not only with a sparkly gym badge, but also cupcakes! i’m not usually a big fan of cupcakes, but her sweet treats were absolutely remarkable! also bonus points because i absolutely love cherries, haha! she wished us luck on our travels before she sent us off. i hope we’ll get the chance to talk more in the future!

and then i met this guy. his scary atmosphere is um… very off-putting? now, that could be because he’s part of the pokémon league… or he’s part of the elite four… or because he’s a teacher at uva??? this very intimidating guy is actually the art teacher of uva? he’s got a stern face and a way of speaking that makes me want to avoid going to his class in the future, even if i really love art.

like… is this guy really one of my teachers?? yikes! he followed up promising my defeat with, “it’d be a pleasure to see you in my class” and i am so not sure how to feel about that! :/ yeesh, how scary! he’s also got this weird little cape on the back of his jacket that makes him seem a liiiiittle less serious, but i’m absolutely terrified to attend that art class!

I felt terrible. Dissemble. Worse. Inconstant. Uncomfortable. I don’t know. Name any words rhyme with down to almost shatter, it’s me right now.

I’ve been on and off with this feelings ever since starting this new year. I’m still confused and searching for whys and hows, it’s still in progress.

But this week it’s kind off elevate me a bit, my emotions. I felt all the emotion I’ve been missing. Excited, fun, enjoy, ecstatic, sharing happiness and stories.

First, on Wednesday I video called with Saila. So maybe that also one of the reason my energy got add up. Quite awhile we chatted and shared our internal issues. But honestly, it doesn’t enough to sooth all the darkness I’ve been feeling lately.

Next, I guessed maybe because I got close with the boys. I’m close with Darwin because he always share his problems and stories about his partner with me so that was inevitable, but the other boys? I’m not quite sure we’re that close. But then this week, Aniq and Darwin have been kind and patient enough to taught me how to play ping pong. Like they’re on another league of me; top notch, but willing to bear with me? Woah. I’m hugely grateful for that. I’m not superior now though on the game, but I still can pass the ball when it reaches me. Aniq also seems have been more open up to me, like we chatted together with Darwin at the front of aspuri. We talked about lot of things, and of course it revolved around Darwin issues and stories. But good enough he just stay along with it, that’s such anak sulung behaviour. But there was a time which I want to take back. When I laugh hysterically, I’ll tend to hit while laughing, so that happened. I hit him while laugh. I’m sorry for that. Muhriz also seems approachable now. The trio asked me to join the challenge of Carolina reaper. Their face are deadly hilarious; by dead I mean truly dead. Like suffering. There was also a time which I did regret by my action. When Muhriz genuinely concerned and offered me his fried fries (because all students know how badly my love towards fried fries) because I was late, but I declined it quite frank. I mean I could just say “thank you for the offer but it’s okay” kinda, instead just overwhelmed with sad and disappointed to recognise people’s intention.

Ezzah, Aleya and Ain also have been more open up with me. They share about their concerns, stories, experiences on their life such as about Allysia, Maira. But mostly about negative stuff, and honestly? I love bawang stuff hahaha. They’ve been comfortable around me, enjoying their last moments together, and still included me. It’s my pleasure and such privilege. I love it.

All in all, I think foremost, I didn’t feel like I’ve been disregard. They hold the same respect and value me as their members. Maybe that was what it was. The things that did elevate me a bit. As now I’ve been come back home, I suppose to return to my usual routine but truly I feel a bit disregard. A lot of things happened in this house but I missed all of em. I want to ask, for them elaborate what did I missed, to get me join the conversation, but I didn’t have the energy to be the starter, the first to engage.

And now, I’ve return back to the square one.

While SSF is currently only enforced through choice, GGG recently announced they are adding a SSF mode to the game with the next league release, which means new challenges and achievements for those who are willing to go it alone.ĭue to the scale and complexity of PoE, SSF is much more challenging than it sounds. Due to the scope, challenge and difficulty of in-game trading, many players are beginning to embrace Solo Self Found (SSF), a gameplay style where a player never trades or groups with other people, only using the items they find. Path of Exile has become one of the leading ARPGs by growing at a steady rate with each new league, the most recent Breach league bringing in a record number of players. You can also view the results of a survey that shows the first builds players are planning for the Legacy League.

I was originally going to league-start as a Necromancer and use the new Reaper minion gem, but after tinkering around with Path of Building (a build-planning tool), I think I’m going to go with the new Explosive Concoction flask-throwing gem.This guide stands solid for the 2.6 patch notes. And as someone who spends most of his time brainstorming and creating new builds, my mouth is watering at the 19 new skill gems added to the game. The acts, in particular, might actually be less braindead than normal and I welcome that. Personally, though, I think I’m kind of excited? I don’t agree with and outright hate some of the changes GGG continues to make to the game, but I am pumped to experience something new. I am genuinely excited to see what the numbers look like for this league, since the vocal side of the Path of Exile fanbase is, well, quite upset.

They have certainly screwed over movement speed in just about every way possible (my least favorite series of nerfs), but my fear is that Expedition will have just as poor of retention because players will get frustrated too soon. GGG has said they want to slow the game down, and that the previous league, Ultimatum, was too rewarding and lost player retention as a result. It will be a league of many, many new deaths.

PATH OF EXILE 2 COST MODS

Their uptime has been reduced in most cases, and the effectiveness of many mods has been slashed. To fix this, flasks have been nerfed across the board. Path of Exile suffered from something called “flask piano” until now - players at higher levels would essentially just mash 12345 (the default flask hotkeys) every four seconds or so since their builds were able to kill monsters very fast and gain 100% uptime on flasks (except during boss fights). Utility flasks are another victim of the patch and have been reduced to a small fraction of their power from before. Support gems across the board will add more mana cost to their attached skills, and it will now cost mana to trigger skills with things like “Cast on Critical Strike” or “Cast when Damage Taken.” This change is on top of game-wide damage nerf to all damage-focused support skills, so if you browse the patch notes and notice a lot of main skills having their damage numbers buffed, just be aware that this is to counteract the support gem nerfs. I’m honestly not even sure where to begin? I guess with mana - players will absolutely be more mana-starved than ever before in the upcoming patch. The long and short of it is: the game is going to be harder in every way possible, and that often includes removing “fun” interactions and mechanics.

PATH OF EXILE 2 COST FULL

They went into further details on the reveal stream but really went full speed ahead during their balance manifesto (the longest one yet) and patch notes. From the beginning, the developers at Grinding Gear Games (GGG) said this league would shake up the “meta” of Path of Exile and to expect a lot of nerfs. So I wrote all this up earlier this morning and Tumblr ate it when I tried to post. My Instagram photos are still not syncing up. So I may have to do some photo dumps from time to time until it gets working again.

Yesterday I got a lot done for the Reaper Challenge League, 3 minis finished yesterday then the bonus owl I finished on Wednesday.

The owl is from Reaper Miniatures Familiars 2 (SKU 07049) as well as the bunny directly below.

The gargoyle and undead wolf are from the Bones 5 Kickstarter and as far as I can tell are currently not available for purchase yet.

The gargoyle is painted only with the colors shown for the limited palette category.

I've now realized my wolf isn't totally finished. I need to paint around the rim of the base. Not a big deal but a small oversight on my part.

Day 29: A Player That Has Disappointed You This Season: Justin Grimm

Um. All of the first half Cubs except probably Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo. Literally all of them. Even the love of my life, Kyle Hendricks, was disappointing in the first half. However, I think I’m going to go with Justin Grimm on this one because he was bad all season when he was great from what I remember of 2015 and pretty dependable last year. He’s got nasty stuff when he’s on, but he very much was not for this whole season

An Introduction

Why hello there! I'm Ceci, but you can call me Echo or Billie or Corr or anything that speaks to you really! My pronouns are she/her/hers or they/them/theirs, and I'm an Irish-American witch who's been practicing to various degrees since I was a tiny child! My parents and extended family raised me on folklore and fairy tales, and while I wasn't raised by pagans I sure did become one pretty quickly!

I started working with An Mórrígan sometime in 2010/2011, and I haven't really ever felt the need to look elsewhere! I occasionally work with Brigid and am getting ready to start my studies on An Dagda and Cailleach in the near future! Still, most likely you'll only hear me talking about Herself as she and I have gotten pretty used to each other.

Learning and understanding lore is something that is very important to me, anything I mark as a UPG is NOT intended to be thought of as truth for all. I also make rather a point of not discussing my relationship with Herself with people, as in my philosophy most people's experiences will be rather different and you should develop your own relationship and not try to model it off of mine. I ask that you do not try to talk about your own personal relationship with Herself with me, but I am ALWAYS happy to talk lore or just general experiences and practice!

Some of my devotional practices include not lying and always (kindly) correcting misinformation whenever I can! Just a heads up, if we start chatting and you claim something Irish as "Celtic" or say a UPG that's been mass produced (i.e. the idea that An Mórrígan is a sex goddess) I am gonna correct you! I'll even provide sources if you like! Please do not interact with me or my blog if you're not ready to be challenged on appropriated beliefs. I mean any and all corrections only with the greatest love and care.

I am also becoming educated/practiced in journeying/astral travel, I practice kitchen witchery and herbalism, and I'm getting into foraging via my companion Duir who is teaching me!

Essentially I am a draoí in training (via the Irish Pagan School which you should check out) with leagues to go! Come study with me!

Now, moving on, I work with several spirits. Two of which (Addison and Amara) are pseudo-headmates, though we've balanced out a lot in recent days and I currently think of them as something more akin to what most in the pagan community call "spirits"! You'll see me post quite regularly about the two of them, and also will likely hear a good deal about my three main spirit companions Duir (a puca-adjacent creature who I have known a long long time but only recently reconnected with), Roxie (a juvenile raccoon), and Orias (a kind of reaper from another world, related to Addison and Amara).

Orias, Addison, and Amara are all part of what I will tag as my personal pantheon! They (in addition to several others) come from a very different place with very different practices! I learn from them and they learn from me, it's a great time! If you're ever curious about them PLEASE don't hesitate to ask! I love talking about them and having more info in the tags will likely help anyone else trying to figure out who the fuck The Magdalene is!

All my companions' posts are tagged with their names, so it won't be too hard to find out more on them as I get more posted, but in the meantime I'll consider this their brief little introduction.

My asks are always open! Feel free to drop in any time to ask me or my companions a question, or request an ogham reading! I also make ogham sets from sustainably sourced (read: I cut it myself from my own forest property, typically from dead,invasive, or diseased trees) and they can be commissioned from me via ask as well.

The Reader: the Crow’s Eye’s True Nemesis

Lord Rodrik “the Reader” Harlaw is introduced in Asha’s first POV. He is her (favorite) maternal uncle, and good-brother to the late Lord of Pyke (as well as possibly the eponym for Balon’s firstborn son). He is the Lord of Ten Towers, Lord of Harlaw. 

Lord Rodrik was seldom seen without a book in hand, be it in the privy, on the deck of his Sea Song, or whilst holding audience. Asha had oft seen him reading on his high seat beneath the silver scythes. He would listen to each case as it was laid before him, pronounce his judgment . . . and read a bit whilst his captain-of-guards went to bring in the next supplicant . . .  Lord Rodrik Harlaw was neither fat nor slim; neither tall nor short; neither ugly nor handsome. His hair was brown, as were his eyes, though the short, neat beard he favored had gone grey. All in all, he was an ordinary man, distinguished only by his love of written words, which so many ironborn found unmanly and perverse.

Rodrik is indistinguishable as far as physical appearance goes. He possesses neither the muscular frame of a warrior like Victarion, a handsome face like Jaime Lannister or even a disability or disfigurement like Tyrion. He is very unremarkable and uncharismatic, a guy who couldn’t stand out in a crowd as opposed to the handsome, charismatic Euron. 

What truly distinguishes him is that instead of being a hyper-masculine warrior who likes to pay the iron price and has a gung-ho attitude towards the Old Way, he is, as his sobriquet suggests, a bibliophile in an anti-intellectual warrior culture that disdains reading, likely due to its association with greenlanders. 

He also happens to be the guy who is always right: stating to Asha that she won’t win the kingsmoot, the Old Way is dead, that Euron’s plans to sail to Slaver’s Bay and attack the Reach were bad ideas, etc. Hell, his advice to Asha to read Haereg actually provides her the tool she needs to effectively overturn the decision of the kingsmoot.

One must also note his sigil: a scythe. While the scythe is often associated with the personification of death in popular culture, Death AKA the Grim Reaper, one must remember that, unlike the sword which is designed solely for war, the scythe is actually a farmer’s tool used for harvesting grain. The scythe stands in direct contrast to the House Greyjoy words “We Do Not Sow.” It fits with Harlaw being the most fertile of the Iron Isles, and the Reader’s more peaceful, constructive approach as opposed to the Greyjoys’ purely martial approach.

“The Old Way served the isles well when we were one small kingdom amongst many, but Aegon's Conquest put an end to that. Balon refused to see what was plain before him. The Old Way died with Black Harren and his sons . . . his dream of kingship is a madness in our blood. I told your father so the first time he rose, and it is more true now than it was then. It's land we need, not crowns. With Stannis Baratheon and Tywin Lannister contending for the Iron Throne, we have a rare chance to improve our lot. Let us take one side or the other, help them to victory with our fleets, and claim the lands we need from a grateful king."

His attitude towards the Old Way is the opposite of the general revanchist attitude seen among Ironborn like the Greyjoy brothers. He sees it as a bygone relic of a distant past that no longer works in the present. He knows the dream of Iron Islands independence is a pipe dream. Part of it is the personal losses he suffered in the Greyjoy Rebellion. He lost both his sons in that war, his sisters ended up going mad after Gwynesse lost her husband and Alannys lost her two eldest sons and her youngest was taken as a hostage. 

Moving from that, and showing keen political acumen, he sees an opportunity for the Iron Islands to take advantage of to improve their situation. He suggests the Ironborn use their fleets as political leverage to gain some land on the mainland, which for millennia had been an Ironborn aspiration. During the reign of Qhored the Cruel, the Ironborn had an empire on the western coast that extended from Bear Island to the Arbor. The reign of the Hoare kings from Harwyn to Harren Hoare had them ruling the riverlands. These conquests provided the Ironborn with the resources that their small, rocky islands lacked with their holdings in the fertile riverlands and Reach providing them grain and foodstuffs, and even the poor Bear Island providing an access point for timber, the essential raw material in shipbuilding. Even Balon’s plan involved that aspect with regards to conquering the North. The Reader suggests gaining land on the mainland not through conquest, which in Ironborn history has always shown to be short-lived, but through diplomacy, a grant via negotiations with a king on the Iron Throne. This would allow them to have holdings on the mainland, but in a more stable and permanent manner than in the past given their dominion would be state-sanctioned. 

Also, let’s look at a scene in Victarion’s last POV in A Feast for Crows. 

In the yard Victarion came on Gorold Goodbrother and old Drumm, speaking quietly with Rodrik Harlaw.

-The Reaver

The Reader is noted to be talking with the Lords Goodbrother and Drumm. What do we know of them?

Gorold Goodbrother is Lord of Hammerhorn on Great Wyk. His fief is removed from the coast of Great Wyk, with much of his wealth being derived from his mines rather than the sea. He holds his maester in such high regard that he refused to let Damphair send him away.

Dunstan Drumm is Lord of Old Wyk. He is also one of the failed candidates at the kingsmoot.

What’s more, the fact that they are "speaking quietly” suggests that they are trying to avoid being heard. Just what could they be discussing? After, they were spotted talking, Rodrik and Dunstan voice their concerns about Euron’s taking of the Shield Islands and inviting the wroth of House Tyrell. The Reader was likely making alliances with other dissenting lords, and building a political base of his own.

Then, there is this scene later in the chapter when Euron proposes sailing the entire Ironborn fleet to Slaver’s Bay. Rodrik challenges his plan with facts. 

"When?" The voice was Lord Rodrik's. "When shall we return, Your Grace? A year? Three years? Five? Your dragons are a world away, and autumn is upon us." The Reader walked forward, sounding all the hazards. "Galleys guard the Redwyne Straits. The Dornish coast is dry and bleak, four hundred leagues of whirlpools, cliffs, and hidden shoals with hardly a safe landing anywhere. Beyond wait the Stepstones, with their storms and their nests of Lysene and Myrish pirates. If a thousand ships set sail, three hundred may reach the far side of the narrow sea . . . and then what? Lys will not welcome us, nor will Volantis. Where will you find fresh water, food? The first storm will scatter us across half the earth."

A smile played across Euron's blue lips. "I am the storm, my lord. The first storm, and the last. I have taken the Silence on longer voyages than this, and ones far more hazardous. Have you forgotten? I have sailed the Smoking Sea and seen Valyria."

"Have you?" the Reader asked, so softly.

Euron's blue smile vanished. "Reader," he said into the quiet, "you would do well to keep your nose in your books."

-The Reaver

While clearly not the kind of guy who goes looking for a fight, he is no coward either, given it takes guts to basically call Euron a liar to his face in front of everyone. With a simple question, he manages to be the only person to visibly get under Euron’s skin. It’s the only time we ever see Euron lose his cool as he basically responds by threatening Rodrik. 

"Are we slavers now?" asked the Reader. "And for what? Dragons that no man here has seen? Shall we chase some drunken sailor's fancy to the far ends of the earth?"

His words drew mutters of assent. "Slaver's Bay is too far," called out Ralf the Limper. "And too close to Valyria," shouted Quellon Humble. Fralegg the Strong said, "Highgarden's close. I say, look for dragons there. The golden kind!" Alvyn Sharp said, "Why sail the world, when the Mander lies before us?" Red Ralf Stonehouse bounded to his feet. "Oldtown is richer, and the Arbor richer still. Redwyne's fleet is off away. We need only reach out our hand to pluck the ripest fruit in Westeros."

"Fruit?" The king's eye looked more black than blue. "Only a craven would steal a fruit when he could take the orchard."

"It is the Arbor we want," said Red Ralf, and other men took up the cry. The Crow's Eye let the shouts wash over him. Then he leapt down from the table, grabbed his slattern by the arm, and pulled her from the hall.

Fled, like a dog. Euron's hold upon the Seastone Chair suddenly did not seem as secure as it had a few moments before.

-The Reaver

The Reader is able to successfully get the whole room on his side in opposing Euron’s plan to sail for Slaver’s Bay with Euron effectively losing control of the situation, and fleeing the scene. While Euron was always able to effectively dispatch his fellow Greyjoys from his brothers to his niece, Rodrik manages to succeed in politically outmaneuvering him. He managed to go up against the man who decisively won the kingsmoot and win. The Reader is clearly no warrior, but he manages to be a skilled politician. 

Euron has a formidable rival in Rodrik Harlaw. Unlike Euron’s fellow Greyjoys, Rodrik commands his own seat that can be used to oppose Euron. Harlaw being the most populous and wealthiest of the Iron Isles also effectively makes the Reader the most powerful lord on the Iron Isles. Rodrik’s vast store of knowledge from a lifetime of reading allows him to be the man who pulls Euron’s curtain, with actual facts being the antidote to Euron’s tricks. Not only that, but Harlaw has enough skills as a politician to potentially build a coalition to oppose Euron. 

We shall see where it leads as the series goes on.
