something something please learn the actual historical & cultural roots behind the Wheel of the Year, not the appropriated Wiccan versions
Irish paganism is still very much a living practice, if you are going to celebrate its holidays take the time to learn about the traditional history and knowledge
one source I've been enjoying reading from lately is the works of Lora O'Brien, link below
just because you see the same information copy & pasted 30 times into different Aesthetic Witchy Posts does not mean the information is accurate.

Cu Sidhe (faerie hound)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Black Dogs
In Irish and Scottish folklore, the Cu Sith or Cu Sidhe (faerie hound), is a fearsome black dog with supernatural powers. They are always large- sometimes described as being as big as a calf or a small horse.
The Cu Sidhe are completely silent on the hunt but sometimes they would give three blood curdling howls that could be heard over a great distance. They are said to have the power to appear and disappear at will. In Irish witchcraft its said that there is a certain phrase a Draíodóir could say to call to the dogs to aid them in workings. However, the phrase itself is not given out lightly, making it rarely known.

Does anyone here know any good resources on Irish mythology, the pantheon, and what an Irish practice would entail?
I wanna connect with my ancestors (who were mostly Irish) and just my roots in general in some way, but it’s really difficult to find anything on that particular subject.
So yeah, anyone who’s got any info, I’d really appreciate any advice and/or recs you have! 😭

Every December - January the old woman of Winter is celebrated. For the past 3 years I have been teaching a class about these woman of myth and folklore. My fascination started with connecting to the ancestral spirits of my heritage La Befana and The Cailleach, and learning along the way the connection they have to the other fascinating woman of Winter and the land. I hope to see you there.
To check out my upcoming class and my other on demand and upcoming classes, go to Zinzeudo University at zinzeudo.com
The holiday season is a time for many things, family, food, and magic. The time between early
December until Mid January is full of spirit activity and stories of Witches, Ghosts, Goblins, and
Elves, some of these stories are terrifying in there own way and some are heartfelt and warm.
Most of these stories and traditions came from pagan beginnings, the legend of La Befana is no
different. The traditions of The Christmas Witch in Italy are old, full of pagan symbolism, and
goddess worship. Looking deep in these legends we open up a different side to the old woman
of Winter and relation to the Old Hag from many cultures. We will touch on the similarities La
Befana has with other Crone and Hag Goddesses as The Cailleach, Baba Yaga, Berchta, Hulda,
and Ragana. As well as similarities to Abundance Goddesses like Strenia, Abundia, and Feronia.
Join me as we travel with La Befana The Christmas Witch.
In this class we will learn
- Lore
- How to build a relationship
- Creating a shrine
- Offerings

Smells Like Home
We’re in Wyoming, something that often happens around Lughnasadh I’ve noticed. It’s been much greener this year than it’s been within recent memory, and the smell is phenomenal. I took the opportunity to gather some of the most fragrant plants in the hopes of making Wyoming incense/smoke cleansing bundles!
These include
Sagebrush
Yellow Sweet Clover
Ponderosa Pine
Juniper
All of these are excellent for clearing and purifying the air, and also they just smell dang good. I save trimmings for sachets which can be put in any small space to provide freshness and clarity.
Scent is a wonderful way to evoke memories and reconnect with our past. Wyoming has always been a second home for me, and putting things together like this really helps me feel connected even when I have to go away. Finding local (safe to burn) flora is a great way to both connect to your environment and to practice witchcraft without contributing to the overuse of white sage!

i have a question to put out into the interwebs in hopes that someone will have a thread for me to grasp at.
i am an American who has been very invested in reconnecting with my Irish roots for a long time. I've been researching my genealogy and ancestry, but I've also been studying the history and language very actively.
separately, i am also a practicing witch who's practice is largely focused on divination and ancestor work. recently i have been feeling a pull towards Celtic dirty work, which is interesting because my spiritually has never been very religious, if that makes any sense. but i have been struggling to find genuine sources to look further into it.
there are plenty of sources on history and language. lots of resources on political intricacies. and i have learned so much about those things. but i am struggling to find information on prechristian Irish deities and religion. about the folk magic that is traditional to my ancestors. what i am able to find runs into one of a few problems.
one is a small group of white supremacists in my country attempting to twist Celtic folklore like some of them have done with Norse folklore. those i report when possible and avoid at all costs.
a much smaller but related problem is the amount of resources where i can tell it has been misappropriated somehow but i can't tell exactly how badly. the people who write entire books about fairie circles and leprechauns but can't quite seem to agree on the stories and don't understand the language that said story came from. there's also the handful of academic things i have found but they have a habit of conflicting each other and having fragmented info with no source.
which leads me to my final problem, the primary sources that do exist being written at best by Catholic Romans trying to cram a pantheon into their religion, or by Saxon/English invaders who thought the stories were neat enough to butcher.
i understand that that is how a lot of info about prechristian Irish beliefs and culture exists, but i feel like there has to be something I'm missing. I've spent so much of my life researching and learning about parallel topics and it feels like there has to be something with the answers I'm looking for. someone somewhere who at least has a place for me to go looking that i haven't yet, or maybe who knows of a person or community i can talk to that I've been missing who can help me learn about this properly.
if i had the financial resources and physical ability to travel to Ireland and dig deeper myself i would in a heartbeat. but i have hit a wall and if anyone has suggestions for how i can get some clarity in how to move forward with this, that would be so helpful. if i am able to learn more i want to document what i find and how to help anyone else who is looking. does anyone know what it is I'm missing? or is anyone on a similar journey and willing to collaborate in looking?
Go raibh míle maith agat as do chabhair

Btw, just letting everyone know that I am very much able to hex and will do. I will hex your abusers, I will hex your ex, I will hex the people who hurt you when you were too young or too scared to fight back.
I have wards woven with years-worth of protection, and nothing can get through them. Drop me a message and tell me the story and I'll see if I can do a hex for it.
It's okay to be angry, but if you can't be, I sure as fuck will be angry for you.
Welcome to Ruírabhe's Grudgery.

Ogham reading 🇮🇪 🇬🇧
(VF en-dessous 🇫🇷 )
Saille. 🇮🇪🇬🇧
Ogham of the willow.
Listen to your intuition, follow your gut, pay attention to buried feelings. They are trying to tell you something. Plunge your roots into your subconscious, into the collective unconscious, into the spirit world (or whatever it is you consider to be greater than yourself). Do not resist the changes that, however unpleasant, you need to help you grow. Be strong and pliable like the willow : go with the flow. Trust the process.
🇫🇷 Saille.

The time of death and ancestral reverence is here. Even though the time of honoring your ancestors is all year round, the fall and winter seasons are the time of death, and as the earths foliage dies and transforms we can see the change more and more each day.
The changes to the earth at this time of year are just like like the changes to the human body as death prepares you for your long journey.
Death and the dead are topics I have always been fascinated with. As a medium and trance channeler, I have always had a close connection to the dead and my ancestors. When my Gigi passed away a few years ago, I felt even closer to the spirit world than ever.
The pictures above are of my Grandmother, it shows the stages of her life until the end. How the slow but inevitable decline changed her form, demeanor, and personality.
My grandmother was a strong loving and caring Neapolitan American Woman, and she is the one who taught me how to love.
Working with the Ancestors is a huge part of my practice and life. If you are new to working with ancestors or you would like to get and idea on how an Italian American Folk Witch honors and works with her ancestors then join me for my new class Saturday October 21 at 7pm.

Week one of black raspberries is coming to a close! Five weeks to go if we’re lucky! The elderflowers are starting to shed, and the gooseberries are slowly but surely ripening for us to look forward to!
Black raspberries are an excellent source of vitamin C and have more antioxidants than blueberries! There’s even been some indication of them reducing the risk of colon cancer.
The raspberry leaf is also a diverse and useful part! Magically they are also useful to represent things such as healing and protection, and medicinally they can be used in teas to assist in the treatment of things such as cardiovascular disorders, intestinal distress, or uterine/menstrual discomfort and irregularities!
From a magical perspective black raspberries (like standard raspberries) are useful for spells focusing on healing, protection, wealth, and prosperity. I wouldn’t use these as a key feature in anything romantic (as I might with red raspberries), but when it comes to health related witchcraft I would absolutely choose these over their red cousins! Taking their strong dark hue into account these berries can also serve as a yummy energetically neutralizing agent in any spell structure. I also find they make excellent offerings for any land based spirit or deity! Additionally, if you work with a sovereignty deity and live somewhere where these are native I highly recommend trying them out as an offering!
Things black raspberries can be used for: syrups, ice cream, cookies, cake, cake or pie filling, juices, jams, and so much more! Keep in mind these have a much higher seed to flesh ratio, so they will leave a lot of seeds in anything they’re left whole in!
Something to consider when enjoying any variety of raspberry is the concept of patience. Of long term development and growth. A first year raspberry cane produces no flowers or fruit, it simply exists to grow as tall as it can and help absorb nutrients to strengthen its roots and structure so that it can produce fruit in the following year. That tasty little berry took a long time getting itself ready so it could develop just right, and that’s something we can take into account when serving, cooking, or otherwise utilizing these happy lil friends in any form of craft.

Tumblr is being dumb so I message from sapphicvampirenerd Will still follow and like from this one but will message from the other one
***************
Hi, I'm Ruíra. I'm an Irish non-binary witch.
This is going to be a weird mix of witchy musings (I follow the Olde Ways, so if that's an issue, I'd leave), me being horny (hence the 18+ warning), and me being a gay mess over vampires. And probably some mix of the three.
I'm 23, I use any pronouns, but prefer she/them.
Seriously, this blog is 18+, I'll block ageless and underage blogs. I'll also block bigots, ageplay blogs, pro-ana blogs, incest stuff (🤮), scat, and bestiality blogs.
