[BEHIND THE RECORD - Elvis onstage from 1969 to 1977] "I Can't Stop Loving You"
Tumblr media
Written and composed by country singer Don Gibson, who first recorded it in 1957, RCA Victor released "I Can't Stop Loving You" in 1958, and it became a country hit single. The song was covered by many artists over the years, most notable one being Ray Charles, in 1962, due to how he turned the tune into a No. 1 single on the Billboard chart.
Elvis Presley performed the song in many iconic concerts of his career - from 1969 into the 70s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first time Elvis Presley was recorded singing "I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU" was during one of the American Sound Studio sessions, on February 1969. It wasn't an official recording tho. A jam version of the tune was recorded while EP was warming up with his musicians so they could cut the songs that would be released in his LPs for the times following — "From Elvis In Memphis" being the album this recording session was intending to create at first.
Not long after this recording session, "I Can't Stop Loving You" was worked up as a number to Elvis' concerts. Rearranged, the song gained a more dramatic tone than we can listen to from how it originally sounded in Elvis' voice at the recording taped at the American Sound Studio previously, so from this moment on Elvis would perform the tune in quite a few iconic concerts of the latter era of his career, the very start being during his comeback to live performances on July/August 1969, onstage at the International Hotel's showroom in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Soundboard audios with "I Can't Stop Loving You" recorded during his concerts, including in 1969, were released on some his live albums throughout the years, such as "FROM MEMPHIS TO VEGAS (IN PERSON)" [recorded in 1969], "ELVIS AS RECORDED AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN" (recorded in 1972) and "ELVIS: RECORDED LIVE ON STAGE IN MEMPHIS" (recorded in 1974).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Live performances of Elvis singing the song were also officially taped, and they are very known to the fans for obvious reasons because they are part of some of the most notable moments of Elvis' history as a performer.
First official taping of EP performing "I Can't Stop Loving You" live took place during one of his engagement seasons at the International Hotel on August, 1970, as released on "Elvis: That's The Way It Is" documentary, then again on April 1972, filmed for "Elvis On Tour" documentary, and not long after that another performance of this tune was filmed during the "Aloha From Hawaii via Satellite" concert, on January 1973.
BUT, BEFORE WE CAN GO TO THOSE FOOTAGES, HAVE YOU LISTENED TO THE JAM VERSION RECORDED IN STUDIO IN 1969?
— NOTE FROM AUTHOR I love sharing Elvis' performances of the same song over the years, but what I would really love you to listen to now is the 1969 jam version of the song we're talking about, for it sounds so different from the live performances the fans are already very familiar with. I didn't knew about this recording until a few days ago and I loved it so much that this track is the reason why I needed to talk about this song. You will read about the moment EP was recording this song soon after.

Album: American Sound 1969 (2019)
It was an American Studio tradition: paying tribute to the chief with a rendition of “This Time,” a Chips Moman-penned hit for Troy Shondell in 1961. Elvis had heard about the rite, and he serenaded his producer at the start of the February session with the few lines that he knew, segueing into Don Gibson’s “It’s My Way,” a song he had asked Freddy to check out the year before. Plunking along on his acoustic guitar, laughing at his own mistakes but singing his heart out, he drew the band into another Don Gibson number, “I Can’t Stop Loving You,” which he would transform into a dramatic show-stopper six month later in Las Vegas. Excerpt from "Elvis Presley: A Life In Music" by Ernst Jorgensen and Peter Guralnick.

I can never get enough of how Elvis' history is so amazing. ♥
What are your thoughts about the jam version of "I Can't Stop Loving You" by EP? I'd love to hear from you.
By the way, do you like this track-to-track-history posts? I've written some so far but I have some others I'd like to share too. If you have any requests, any Elvis Presley songs you'd like to know more about the recording sessions or comparisons of the times a same tune was performed live by Elvis over the years, feel free to hit me with it. I sure will have great fun researching it for you.

THE PRETTY RECKLESS Has 'A Lot' Of Music Written For Upcoming Fifth Album
Tumblr media
During an appearance on the May 6 episode of SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk", THE PRETTY RECKLESS singer Taylor Momsen was asked about the progress of the songwriting and recording sessions for the band's fifth album. She said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I don't have [release] dates for you, but we booked — we've locked up the studio for eight months. It takes us a while to make a record. But it was going amazingly [before we paused the sessions in order to hit the road]. Hopefully when we pick back up in September, it'll be the same kind of flow and everything will just jell. But a lot of it's written. I'm sure that more will be written when these experiences happen and then new songs [arise] out of them. So I'm sure that there'll be some more songs coming. But I don't have dates. But it was going great, and we had just started; we really haven't started at all, but there's written stuff. So that's a start, I guess. But as far as recording, we hadn't really gotten into it yet."
This past January, THE PRETTY RECKLESS shared a photo of Taylor in the studio with Jonathan Wyman, who co-produced THE PRETTY RECKLESS's latest album, 2021's "Death By Rock And Roll", apparently confirming that Wyman has re-teamed with the group for the upcoming LP.
In a May 2023 interview with Ronni Hunter of the 99.7 The Blitz radio station, Momsen revealed that she and her THE PRETTY RECKLESS bandmates had commenced work on the follow-up to "Death By Rock And Roll".
"We're in a great headspace," she said. "We're just having fun with it, and wrapping up the tour cycle of 'Death By Rock And Roll'. And then new record — and it's next chapter. We've already kind of started it… We've gotten into a studio; we've stepped foot into a studio. So that's saying something for us."
THE PRETTY RECKLESS will support AC/DC on the legendary hard rock band's spring/summer 2024 European tour. Momsen and her bandmates will also open for THE ROLLING STONES this coming Saturday, May 11 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In November 2022, THE PRETTY RECKLESS released a new collection of music, "Other Worlds", via Fearless Records. The effort saw the group delivering its first proper acoustic recordings, unexpected covers and other reimaginings.
"Death By Rock And Roll" was made available in February 2021 via Fearless Records in the U.S. and Century Media Records in the rest of the world.
Upon release, "Death By Rock And Roll" topped multiple sales charts — including Billboard's Top Albums, Rock, Hard Music, and Digital charts. The record also yielded three back-to-back No. 1 singles — "Death By Rock And Roll", "And So It Went" (featuring Tom Morello of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE) and "Only Love Can Save Me Now" (featuring Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron of SOUNDGARDEN). The band has tallied seven No. 1 singles at the rock format throughout its career.
"Death By Rock And Roll" was THE PRETTY RECKLESS's first album to be made without longtime producer Kato Khandwala, who died in April 2018 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
THE PRETTY RECKLESS formed in 2009 and consists of Momsen, guitarist Ben Phillips, bassist Mark Damon and drummer Jamie Perkins.
In 2021, Momsen — who rose to fame portraying the character of edgy little sister Jenny Humphrey on The CW's "Gossip Girl" — described "Death By Rock And Roll" in an interview with ABC Audio as a "battle cry for life and for hope."
"I think that that's something that we can all use a little bit more of, especially right now," she said. "We could always use a little more hope, and we could always use a little more rock and roll."

IN THIS MOMENT Announces 'Godmode' Album, Shares 'The Purge' Single
Grammy Award-nominated act IN THIS MOMENT has released a new single, "The Purge", from its upcoming studio album "Godmode", due out October 27 via BMG. The song is accompanied by the official music video directed by Jensen Noen (ICE NINE KILLS, FALLING IN REVERSE, HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD).
"We are thrilled to unveil 'The Purge' to everyone," says IN THIS MOMENT vocalist Maria Brink. "I am so grateful for how everything flowed to bring this song to life, both sonically and visually. Kane Churko and Jensen Noen helped to create this musical and cinematic experience with us and we could not have done it without them. The underlying message of the song is to not fall too deeply into the rabbit hole, everything is about finding balance. I had a lot of emotions building within me when I approached the song for the first time and after years of holding it all in I finally got to let it out! Enjoy."
"This song came from our time in lockdown. We all had our own personal experiences during the pandemic, and we all saw the social unrest unfolding daily tearing us apart. It was such a crazy time," says IN THIS MOMENT guitarist Chris Howorth. "Our band, like everything else, was stopped in its tracks. During the lockdown I was sending Maria musical ideas I was working on, and this one really resonated with her. She even said, 'This is gonna be our first single.' Fast forward a couple years and all the pent-up frustration and angst came pouring out in Maria's lyrics and performance, creating this crazy visceral song."
IN THIS MOMENT has also shared details for "Godmode", marking the band's eighth studio album to date. Recorded at Hideout Recording Studio in Las Vegas, Nevada, the 10-track opus was produced by Kane Churko (OZZY OSBOURNE, PAPA ROACH, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH) and Tyler Bates ("John Wick" movies, Jerry Cantrell, BUSH).
"We absolutely cannot wait for everyone to hear what we've created," adds Howorth.
"Godmode" track listing:
01. Godmode 02. The Purge 03. Army Of Me 04. Sacrifice 05. Skyburner 06. Sanctify Me 07. Everything Starts And Ends With You 08. Damaged (feat. Spencer Charnas) 09. Fate Bringer 10. I Would Die For You
IN THIS MOMENT debuted "Sacrifice" and "The Purge" at the opening concert of "The Dark Horizon Tour" on July 8 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
"I Would Die For You" previously appeared on the soundtrack for "John Wick: Chapter 4".

Chapter 8. Tell Me No Lies, Make Me A Happy Man
*Warning*
*Sexual Content Ahead*
Somewhere near Las Vegas Nevada, February 16 2002
"... ok favorites," Tommy says, exhaling the smoke from his cigarette towards the drivers side window of his deep red Porsche 911 turbo with the tinted windows.
"Favourites? Like, what kind of favorites?" I ask, glancing at him in his black Black Sabbath band T-shirt -  the exact same one that I have - and his usual ripped distressed jeans, his hair perfectly shaggy with some tray locks falling across his eyes, and his small silver hoop earrings poking through.
"You know like... ok, ok, favorite band - and not something you mentioned before - like your earliest memory - that favorite band," He says quickly glancing at me then back out the windshield.
The entire drive we had been just asking each other anything and everything that we didn't already know about each other.
I flew in from Seattle last night and Tommy picked me up at the airport. I stayed the night with him at his house and right now we are  on our way to The House Of Blues in Las Vegas for sort of like a practice run for the upcoming tour. I finally got the updated schedule sent over to me from his lawyer and it looked like a pretty full bill starting at the end of May. This show in particular was a one night stay in Las Vegas with a radio interview in the morning before the show.
That morning when Tommy unexpectedly decided to show up at my hotel and convinced me to spend a few more days with him, we ended up spending the a couple of weeks together. It was so amazing to just be with him and let myself fall into him. I'm completely in love with him. I of course haven't told him yet since he doesn't need to know that right now but I know for sure, I am in love, and it's so strange to feel this way so quickly and so intensely even when we are still getting to know each other.
We mostly hung out at his house, spent a lot of time by the pool and the pond that he has in the backyard. The majority of the time though was spent in his bedroom, exploring and playing, laughing and just being together in that big bed of his was just the perfect way to be with him.
When we managed to finally come up for air, we spent some time in his studio while he recorded a few demos of songs he was working on. It was such a familiar place for me and I loved being there every single second. He told me he's never had a girl want to be around when he's doing his music thing. Neither of his ex wives or anyone has ever taken an interest at all. How could you not want to be around that? I mean, my absolute favorite times with Chris was when we would hang out in his studio writing and recording.
He told me about his boys, how Brandon is about to turn 6 and Dylan just turned 4 and that they are just little monkeys and so much like him. I haven't met them yet since it is still way too soon for that of course but I'd love to meet them at some point.
There is one thing that I still haven't told Tommy yet and I'm afraid to. How I lost Lily so many years ago. It's not exactly an easy subject to bring up. I'll tell him eventually, I just need the right moment.
When I eventually went back home he called me almost every day, wanting to know when he could come and see me, wanting to just hear my voice, saying how much he missed me and I couldn't help but miss him too. I hadn't felt wanted by anyone in such a long time that it was a little scary to think that we were both so intense for each other so quickly. I've never felt this intensely for anyone so quickly, ever - and I thought I moved fast when I was with Kenny.
Oh Kenny, I guess I should talk about that too. Ok, so hmmm where do I even start with that? Alright, ok, ok. I was with Kenny Hickey for just under a year. It wasn't supposed to be anything serious since Chris and I just broke up the first time and at that point I didn't give a shit about myself or anything. Kenny was supposed to just be a one time thing, but of course it never seems to turn out that way for me. I ended up falling in love with him, and as much as I did love him, it just wasn't our time. When he proposed to me on new years eve in '94 I wanted to say yes, believe me I did, but there was something stopping me. I wasn't ready to. I wasn't over Chris and I knew in my heart that if I did say yes and marry Kenny that we wouldn't last. I didn't want to do that to him. He is such an amazing soul and deserves to be loved by someone who can love him back the exact same way. I hear he eventually did get married to - Bonnie I think her name is? - and I'm so over the moon happy for him.
Anyways, I had planned to move to Ohai and into the house that I was supposed to keep as per the divorce agreement with Chris. Chris and I had bought that house in '98 a few months before we ended up breaking up for good and we just ended up renting it out until we could figure out what to do with everything. I wasn't strong enough emotionally to be able to be in that house on my own yet so I had purchased a decent size condo in downtown Seattle close to my office that had no memories of us and I was able to have a fresh start.
Our divorce wasn't actually finalized until July last year though we hadn't actually been together since early '99, and without telling me, Chris had actually sold the house out from under me, buying out my portion just after our divorce was settled.
To say I'm stressed is an understatement, and now I have even more settlements to deal with and somehow need to find the time in between working and going on the road in the next few weeks. But I really don't want to think about that right now. I still haven't even told Tommy the entire situation. I will though, but it's just so complicated.
Anyways... um, where were we? Oh right, favorites...
"Hmmm... can it be more than one?" I ask.
"Yea," He chuckles. I look out the windshield thinking about all the bands I've fallen in love with over the years and didn't realize how hard it is to just pick.
"Ummmm Black Sabbath," I say, leaning my head back on the head rest and turning to look at him as he takes another drag of his cigarette. "Then of course The Beatles, Zeppelin, Killing Joke - "
"Killing Joke? Really? Shit," He chuckles, exhaling a cloud of smoke and quickly glancing at me then back out the windshield.
"Uh huh, Bauhaus too... ummm...but yea, there's so many but the first band I just fell in love with is Black Sabbath," I say and then I add " What about you?" as I continue to lean my head back on the head rest and look at him.
"The first band I fuckin' was just obssessed with was Led Zepplin. John Bonham is like, such an influence for me, Van Halen too. Fuckin' um... Cheap Trick, David Bowie... " He says in that excited tone he gets when he tells me things he's passionate about. I love that tone, and I love that look he gets when he's passionate about something.
"You wanna change up the tunes for a bit?" He asks nodding towards the car stereo as he exhales a cloud of smoke and butts out his cigarette
"Do I?" I say excitedly and he laughs and I lean forward and open up the glove box and take out the CD wallet to start flipping through the CD's
"What do you wanna hear?" I ask.
"Anything baby, you pick," He says. I flip through a few pages and find Fear Factory's Demanufacture album and instantly get excited. I hadn't heard this album in so long. I eject the CD that was playing and switched in Fear Factory which  immediately blasts through the speakers.
"Nice," He says.
"I can't believe you have this, I didn't know you liked Fear Factory," I say.
"Fuck yea, of course I do," He smiles at me.
"I fucking love this album, it's like the perfect blend of them still being like death metal but so much more machine like and industrial. And Burton's voice is just like... oh my god.  It's so good," I say, leaning back in the passenger seat, resting my head against the headrest and letting the music flood my ears. After a few moments I turn and look at him grooving to the sound which makes me smile, my curls falling across my eyes. He then glances at me with that charming smile biting his bottom lip and taking my hand to place his lips on the back of my hand.
I want to tell him that I am so in love with him. That I never thought I could ever feel this way again, but so completely different at the same time. He's so different from everyone else I've been with before. He's impulsive and intense, sweet and romantic, everything that I never knew I wanted until I met him. It's that kinda love that makes me want to scream it from the rooftop.
As he focuses on the highway, placing sweet kisses on the back of my hand, I shift myself just a bit and let go of his hand, reach up and run my fingers through his hair, placing my lips to his temple. He moans a deep growl as I move my lips to his ear, nibbling just a little, then I pull away at just the right moment with a sly smirk on my face as he flicks his dark eyes to mine.
"You are gonna get it you know that," He chuckles.
"What am I gonna get?" I ask playfully.
He turns back to focusing on the road, his hand moving to my bare thigh and slowly sliding up to the frayed hem of my light wash ripped denim mini skirt. Leaning my head back against the headrest, I watch him as he checks the rearview mirror then continues to focus on the road as his hand makes its way higher.
He revs the engine a bit, changing lanes as his fingers discover I'm not wearing any panties at all. He glances at the stereo on the dashboard pressing a button on the steering wheel to turn up the volume and I close my eyes, biting my bottom lip while his fingers softly massage my clit.
I couldn't believe the focus he had on the road as he gently played with me. This was like something out of a movie or something. All I meant to do was just tease him. Apparently he really wanted to tease me too.
"How's that baby?" He says low and deep and I couldn't even bring myself to say anything. All I could do was just try and breathe. I didn't know if he was looking at me or the road but as he began to circle at just exactly the right pace. I let out a whimper and he revved the engine again and it was all I could do to not cum right there.
This is crazy! This is absolutely insane! Is this even happening right now?
"Oh my god, Tommy," I breathe.
"Yes baby?" He says in his low and husky voice, his fingers still playing with my clit effortlessly with perfect circular motions unlike nothing I've ever felt before.
Still resting my head on the headrest, I exhale, turning my head and slowly open my eyes to look at him. I wanted to cry out how much I love him, how much he makes me feel so fucking alive but all I could do was whimper once more.
"You gonna cum for me baby?" He says looking at the road.
"Yes," I managed to get out.
"Yea baby?" He says quickly glancing at me then back at the road.
"Yes," I say again.
"Let me hear you baby, let me fuckin' hear you," He says glancing back at me again and I couldn't hold back any longer.
Closing my eyes, feeling the warmth from his fingers and the sensation deep inside me starting from my toes all the way up to the top of my head, I grip his forearm with one hand and the side of the car seat with the other and cry out as my orgasm reaches an intensity like I've never felt before.
"Fuckin' jeezus christ you are beautiful when you cum like that" He says.
I slowly open my eyes as we pull up to an intersection to stop at a red light. He then looks over at me with the most sly mischievous smile he could give me while I try to calm my breathing down.
"I told you, you were gonna get it,"

Panic! At The Disco Try A Different Tack For New LP: Simplicity
After trying out 'weird' songs, the band decides to go to a happier place.
8/6/07
Notice to those hoping to catch a sneak peek of Panic! at the Disco's new album during one of their upcoming festival gigs: What you hear might not ultimately be what you get.
Case in point is a song tentatively called "It's True Love," which the band unveiled last month at Summerfest in Milwaukee. The way things are looking now, it's probably not even going to make the cut for album number two.
"We hadn't played a show in a while, and we wanted to play something new, but that song's probably not even going to make the record at this point," guitarist Ryan Ross told MTV News at last weekend's Virgin Festival in Baltimore. "We've changed a lot of what we want to do with the record. And I feel like we're happier with the new songs we have so far than we ever were with any of the old songs on the last record."
Change seems to be the theme these days for Panic, who made waves earlier this year when they announced they had retired to a cabin in Nevada to begin writing the follow-up to A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. Then in April the band forced the WTF-meter into the red with an open plea to land Dr. Dre as a producer for the new, yet-untitled album.
Through all that, they were still working off the template Ross laid down last year: to create a "modern fairy tale.” And while that's still the case, it looks like things are -- you guessed it -- changing yet again.
"We wrote a bunch of songs that we were happy with, and we liked 'em a lot, but we just weren't having as much fun as we should've been, you know?" bassist Jon Walker said. "Things are pretty good for us right now, and we're pretty happy, and I think that is gonna come out more in these songs. We spent the past year and a half playing a bunch of songs that have weird melodies and weirder phrasings, [and] long words that Brendon [Urie] still can't pronounce all that well. We're just trying to write songs that we have fun playing."
And it turns out that means adhering to a heretofore un-adhered-to concept, K.I.S.S.: Keep It Simple, Stupid.
"We wanted to approach these songs in the most basic form," Ross said. "We wrote them all on one acoustic guitar and with someone singing. I think that we kind of skipped that part of songwriting on the first record, and this time we're sort of paying attention to that. We moved into a cabin in the mountains, and then we went to L.A. and worked there for a while. And then we came home [to Las Vegas] a month ago and got into our old rehearsal studio, where we wrote the last record -- and we've written a bunch of songs since we've been home. I think it's the most fun and the happiest we've been since we started."
While there's still no firm date for just when we'll get to hear the fruits of those happy labors, Panic said that they're in no rush to get album number two out there, despite some of the pressure they're starting to feel from their most ardent fans.
"We haven't any problem with our label at all. I don't think we've talked to one person from our label since we started writing," drummer Spencer Smith said. "I know a lot of bands have issues with their label, but we don't.
"A couple of my mom's coworkers are pissed, though," he laughed. "They want new songs."

“Help Me”
THE MASTER WAS CONQUERED IN ONE SINGLE TRY. Elvis dropped to his knees while recording this song in studio.

Studio Sessions for RCA, December 12, 1973: Stax Studios, Memphis “Help Me” was the last song recorded on December 12, and they got it in one take; in his book 'Elvis: The Final Years', Jerry Hopkins reports that Elvis dropped to his knees to sing it. "Elvis Presley: A Life in Music" by Ernst Jorgensen. Foreword by Peter Guralnick (1998)
Right during the first 1974 Las Vegas engagement at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada (Jan. 26 - Feb. 9, 1974), "Help Me" was a part of Elvis' live concert setlist.

FIRST OFFICIAL RELEASES
The song was released as a single, flip side to "If You Talk In Your Sleep", on May 1974. It became a great favorite of Elvis for his live performances. Interesting enough, a live recording was released in an album before the studio master could be properly released in an album itself.

On March 20, 1974 Elvis performed at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis, Tennessee, and the live album "Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis" was released with the soundboard recordings from this concert in which Presley performs "Help Me" live. This live album was released on July 7, 1974. Only in January 1975 the studio recording of the song, recorded at Stax Records in 1973, would be featured in an album, "Promised Land".

"HELP ME" lyrics Lord, help me walk another mile, just one more mile I'm tired of walkin' all alone Lord, help me smile another smile, just one more smile You know I just can't make it on my own I never thought I needed help before I thought that I could get by by myself But now I know I just can't take it any more With a humble heart, on bended knee, I'm beggin' You, please, help me Come down from Your golden throne to me, to lowly me I need to feel the touch of Your tender hand Remove the chains of darkness, let me see, Lord, let me see Just where I fit into Your master plan I never thought I needed help before I thought that I could get by by myself But now I know I just can't take it any more With a humble heart, on bended knee, I'm beggin' You, please, help me With a humble heart, on bended knee, I'm beggin' You, please, help me

Reactivated FLYLEAF Completes First Week Of Rehearsals With Singer LACEY STURM
FLYLEAF, which recently reunited with singer Lacey Sturm, has completed its first week of rehearsals for its upcoming shows.
On Friday (February 10),FLYLEAF took to its social media to share a photo from the studio, and it included the following caption: "First week of practice with the full band was beautiful. #flyleaffamily"
FLYLEAF, which hasn't performed live since 2015, will make a number of festival appearances this year, including at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival in September in Alton, Virginia and at the Sick New World festival in May in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Sturm left FLYLEAF in October 2012. She was replaced by Kristen May, who recorded one album with the group, 2014's "Between The Stars", before exiting.
Lacey opened up about her reasons for her departure from FLYLEAF in a video promoting her 2014 memoir "The Reason: How I Discovered A Life Worth Living". At the time, she said: "We were on our second album when I got married. And the album was called 'Memento Mori'. And 'memento mori' means remember you're mortal, remember that you'll die and remember that your life is short and precious and so are the lives of those around you.
"For two years, I toured with my husband and it was really amazing, and then after those two years, we ended up getting pregnant with my son," she continued. "And I recognized that my priorities were gonna change even more and that message of 'memento mori' and remembering how short your life is was really weighing on my heart.
"We toured for ten years. I mean, we weren't home for more than a month, probably, a year. So, for me, I just felt really blessed to be pregnant and to be in a place where I could stay home if I wanted to, and really ask that question: how is this gonna change my priorities? How is this gonna look? We had a few things happen that really brought that message home, but the one that hit the hardest was the death of our sound engineer [Rich Caldwell]. We did one last show with FLYLEAF as a benefit for his wife Katy and their son Kirby. And it was really hard to do a show without him, and it was really hard to think it could be our last show. So I remember looking at my son after Rich had passed and just wondering to myself, if this was the last year I had with my son, how would I spend it?
"It was really amazing to recognize this season changing in my life and the freedom that I was gonna be able to focus on my family. And I'm so thankful for that time. And although it was really hard, I'm thankful. And that's the reason I stepped down from FLYLEAF."
Back in 2016, Sturm was asked in an interview with RockRevolt Magazine if there was chance that she could reunite with her former bandmates after they had parted ways with May. She responded: "Well, you know, I feel like I'm the kind of person that I think so much happened that I never in a million years thought would happen, so I've learned to quit saying 'never.' But at the same time, I'm a really present person."
She added at the time: "I don't have any plans for that, but then again, you never know. I don't know… [Laughs] They haven't called me. And I don't have any plans [to go back]."
At several shows last year, Sturm joined SEETHER on stage to perform the FLYLEAF song "I'm So Sick".
In December 2021, Sturm released the official music video for her latest solo single, "Awaken Love". The track followed the previously released "The Decree" and "State Of Me".

I think there will be rain tonight.
June 2nd, 2009
Tumblr media
This is a difficult announcement to have to write, and one we’d have hoped we’d never need to, but it is with a heavy heart we in Los Campesinos! need to announce the forthcoming departure of Aleks Campesinos! from our number.
After three years of LC!, in an incredible journey that has gone from inaudible student union side room gigs to playing infront of thousands in Caracas city centre; Aleks is now, as she always intended, departing the band in order to return to her studies.
In many ways, it would be great if there had been some falling out in the band and that Aleks couldn’t bear to tour with us anymore, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. We’re all better, closer friends now than we’ve ever been, and this makes the decision tougher on both Aleks, and the other six of us. We’ve always been very pragmatic when thinking about the future for Los Campesinos!, and it is at this point that Aleks has decided her future does not reside in flogging this LC! nonsense any  longer. Though she will remain a Campesinos! for eternity. There’s no escaping that.
It shouldn’t need saying, and perhaps it almost seems insensitive, but it’s inevitable news of this nature will cause tongues to wag, so it’s best to confirm that Los Campesinos! will continue as a band, stronger and more united than ever. Though this news is being announced only now, it’s something we as a band have been aware of, and preparing for, for the past year. The individual joining the band to take on Aleks’ duties, and more, has been a friend of the band for a long time and though we are understandably maudlin, nay, heartbroken, this is coupled with a great excitement for what we intend to go on and achieve in the near and distant future.
In the meantime, we are finishing up Aleks’ final record with the band, and can announce her final LC! shows – a US Tour, taking place in August. Taking in our biggest indoor shows to date, as well as a happy return to the site of our first US show (Lollapalooza), we navigate parts of America previously unchartered by us, before Aleks’ very last shows come with a weekend in the California sun.
The girl will go out in fucking style; we will make completely sure of that.
