@jupiterlion @mownocom L’influence du krautrock allemand des années 70 n’aura épargné personne, pas même l’Espagne que l’on rattache souvent trop facilement à une musique plus ensoleillée et festive que celle interprétée depuis 2011 par Jupiter Lion. Mais, avec désormais trois albums sous le bras, DJs Sai, Gonzo Vegas et José Guerrero (guitariste de Betunizer ici à la basse) ont déjà démontré qu’ils ne sont pas que de simples rejetons des Can, Neu! ou Kraftwerk tant post punk, post-hardcore, et jazz sont aussi chez eux régulièrement sur la brèche. Après quatre ans de silence, le trio revient donc avec We Will Lose Gracefully, troisième opus alignant une grosse poignée de compositions s’inscrivant dans la suite logique de son approche originelle, à la différence près qu’elles se révèlent plus piégeuses que jamais. Ainsi, une fois Rebellion sur ses rails, l’auditeur embarque vers une transe électrique dont il ne s’échappera que lors des rares moments où le manque de relief, voire de gimmick, se fait sentir. Car Jupiter Lion a beau maitriser impeccablement son sujet, il marque avant tout les esprits quand il abat la carte d’une intensité efficace (façon Maserati sur Un Sol Extrano, Capital Devotion), plutôt que lorsqu’il est à deux doigts de s’hypnotiser lui-même (Past Is Today, le final éponyme), notamment en lorgnant vers le shoegaze avec plus ou moins de brio. I cannot sort anything in my place without coming across something given by my late #ronkane friend. He was a #dj and #producer among other stuff, but chiefly he was a #recordscollector , the craziest #collector I have ever seen and when I say crazy, I mean that I have never seen so many #records #cd #k7 (mostly #vinylrecords ) in someone’s place. He printed this #booklet for his #50thbirthday in #2008 - We were invited in #dtla where he rented a space for his #party - I remember that he drunk too much that day because he started speaking a very good French, he was always speaking French when he was drunk even though he was a true American guy! He knew more about French music than I do. When I was still in France, he was asking me for finding some French records that I had never heard of. But he was always right, they existed. We (my ex and I) met Ron through #gillesyepremian and #thedoors in #1997 and I remained #friend with him all these years. He helped me so much when I moved to L.A. by giving me very useful information like the address of my tissue papers and shopping bags supplier, and much more than that! He was the one who created my artwalk concept. Since he has not been with us anymore, the artwalk have not been the same anymore and I stopped organizing it, because nobody can replace Ron. Big fan of #frankzappa - when I think of Ron, I think: Frank Zappa. I had prepared a magazine with Frank Zappa on it that I found and kept for him. He never came to pick it up, he died before having the time.
