week two progress
I’ve been collecting letters from the outside world for the upcoming assessment and have sorted what I’ve found into two categories; organic shapes, and geometric shapes. Neither set has a complete alphabet yet, and I’m not happy with all the letters I’ve found so far (the “j” in the geometric set, and the “c” and “p” in the organic set)

Geometric Alphabet

Organic Alphabet
I’m pretty taken by post-modern design, and I think if I were to look at someone like Carson or Fella as inspiration for my poster design I could comfortably mix and match letters from both the alphabet sets I’ve been building (although so far I think the geometric set is much stronger- and more complete)

Human Power
There may be many who do not know and will now know that man is endowed with natural power. Power in which we are free to make decisions in our lives. Power with the ability to change the course of our lives. And sometimes power that is hard to stand up. With all man power the decision is probably the most sensitive. Simply making mistakes in deciding the good cycle of life o can be overturned and lead to miserable life. One thing to watch when making decisions is the emotion because it has a great impact on the potential outcome of the decision. However we must appreciate the power we have because it is a privilege to choose what we do and act in a particular situation. Esparar, Shenna Mae A. ABM 11- Integrity Group 6

This project was harder for me to work on because for the last two weeks I have been sick, but through all the demos and videos provided I found it easier to produce this poster. At first I was worried that it would be hard to figure out indesign since it is a new program, but there was a lot of options to teach me how to use the program.
Going to the poster, the sketches that I started with were all over the place. When we were first assigned this project I didn’t know which of the quotes I could see as a poster. In my original sketches I had chosen three different quotes to sketch ideas too. Even when I was sketching I still didn’t have a clear picture in my head about the overall poster design. After a few sketches for each quote, I decided I liked the Helen Keller quote, “Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.”

“What has struck you most in the presentation on Filipino Religiosity in class? Which points do you agree with most? Why?”

Based in the presentation on Filipino Religiosity, I agree with all of the points. Why? Because, the points are passing through every generation. My experiences while I’m growing up, by these points the one who taught me was My Mother and Teachers who taught us about these stuffs. When I was in elementary, I studied in a School full of nuns there’s one subject that we would go to Church to identify the belongings also what would we do. Before our holy communion, our nun sister said that we should know and remember all the things that they taught us so we can use once we grow old. Living as a Filipino, I will say that I’m proud to be one.

Give an example of how you've worked with other people during the project
I have worked with other people when I was interviewing them whilst they were shooting during shoot week.
Why were you working/communicating with them?
I was communicating with them because I needed to have some talking scenes in the BTS film to explain what was going on better, other than just having tonnes of silent footage.
What did you want to achieve? Did you manage to achieve it?
I wanted to make the film more lively and funny, I think we did achieve that but we also had a mix of more professional and serious footage of us in shoot week.
Did you have to resolve any issues you hadn't previously thought about?
No, I had prepared interview questions before hand whilst doing my BTS plan so I knew what I was going to ask and I just went with the flow.

These are the interview questions I had thought of a week before shooting.

This is a screenshot of the part of the BTS film where I was interviewing our actor before filming the first shot.

Truth daw
As a Person we always commit a mistakes, lies. But the lies that we make sometimes depends on the situation we are at. Avoiding the truth will not make you feel at ease, sometimes knowing the truth will make you feel satisfied and will make you feel at ease.Knowing the truth even if it means that you will get hurt.

Reflection
Once again Batch 2018 experienced another “first”, this time however took it to the next level as Batch 2018 students have been transferred and enrolled to an entirely new campus in Cavite currently known as De La Salle Zobel-Vermosa.
Despite the adjustment to a new campus, Research 2 had been a lot easier to manage considering that there were more feedback, help and output than the previous Research subject, as I was able to work with classmates who I also consider to be my friends. Research 2 was somewhat similar to Research 1 in terms of its flow, so the data collection & analysis part and/ or the overall process of Research 2 was much easier to handle as it was already familiar to my group mates and I.

The Yes Men Need an Information Designer
The film Yes Men is a great film and I highly recommend the watch. I laughed, I fumed with anger, and yes I even cried... a little. It is within the films creators and stars that you find a level of moxie that most of us will never experience ourselves. Their focus and determination to gain attention for mistreatments and injustices in the world of big business was inspiring. As an information designer I wonder about the intended messages and the messages that were actually received. Did they have a true understanding of their audience? Did they take the opportunities to effectively educate and inform about the issues at hand? I will try to address these questions as we take a closer look from the information designers prerogative.
The Yes Men hold great power in their ideas and perhaps need to focus their designs to achieve greater success in their messaging in order to bring light to some major violations and injustices. Based on the scenes within the fill, I do believe that most of their messages were not received as they had intended. Many of the scenarios that they found themselves in produced unforeseen praise of their ideas, no matter how ridiculous they made them. This can be seen in the human life saving pod farce and the golden skeleton ideas. Could this be attributed to a lack of understanding of their audience? This is perhaps where the Yes Men fall short on their delivery.
The Yes Men took every opportunity to educate and inform people about the issues at hand. It is the effectiveness that was lacking. Good information design is to help users be well-informed and develop a deeper understanding of the world. The men did have strong resolve in their endeavours and followed through with educating themselves and through the film us as well. They did this by investigating some hearsay that arose. Using the example of the false hope given to the people still suffering after the pesticide plant disaster in India. The fact that they flew to india to determine if they had in fact caused such pain to the people shows true spirit of an information designer by seeking the facts. It is important to seek out what is true and to never knowingly cause hindrance or harm.
As an information designer, it is engrained within us to educate, inform and create awareness to make thing better. The Yes Men have many of the qualities held within information design, while they do not hold the specific talents that myself or my colleagues do. I see this as both a good and a bad thing because the Yes Men have important messages to relay, but at this time no information designers to help them achieve the full potential of their goals.

Individual Reflection2: Define Phase
Our 10 “HMW”: 1.How to ensure sufficient entertainment expenses to enrich the life of international students and make more friends? 2.Whether it is necessary for schools or other institutions to provide part-time opportunities for students with financial difficulties? 3.Need to create and recommend the use of accounting software to help students organize and classify expenses? 4.How do we help international students manage and use living expenses more reasonably, so as to explore the rationality of the consumption structure and spending power of international students? 5.Provide services to help students save on unnecessary expenses. 6.How to make students understand the benefits and importance of having a spending plan? 7.When the actual expenditure exceeds the budget, what are the correct and safe borrowing methods to use? 8. How to maintain rational consumption and avoid unnecessary expenditure? 9. How to control the desire to buy and give up what students want? 10.When the international students choose to borrow money due to lack of funds, how to relieve the economic pressure, and how to choose to repay the debt. How to solve the negative impact on study and life.

Brainstorming:
In this assignment, we created a mind map around our objective - the cost of living management - and the four main areas proposed were rational use, consumption structure, the ability of consumption, and consumer psychology. Further discussion of specific issues through these four areas resulted in a final mind map as follows.

AEIOU:
A is for ACTIVITIES, which is a set of planned actions. From the last questionnaire, we learned that some students manage their money well and have enough money to live on each month. Some students are unplanned and overspend, so some of them choose to work part-time to earn money. E is for ENVIRONMENTS. There are many students at Auckland University who do not pass through nationality, but not every international student's family is wealthy, so when parents are unable to control their students, there can be a climbing mentality that leads to uncontrolled spending. I refer to the way students interact with each other or the way students handle things. In interactions with other students due to different family conditions, it often occurs in their interactions, leading to massive overspending by students. In dealing with things, international students are basically far away from their own country and when one is in an unfamiliar environment, high spending can occur. This is because of the need to differently buy household items and essentials that one thinks they need. O is for objects, which are an integral part of the environment. Some international students keep track of their expenses in different ways, such as notepads and mobile phone software. Such are ways to learn and recommend, and these actions allow international students to better plan and manage their living expenses as well as control the money they spend on what they need. U is for USERS, the people being observed.
Questionnaire:
Our group counted fifty-five questionnaires. Although a lot of thought was put into this questionnaire and we had many enthusiastic students helping us to complete it. However, there were still a number of critical issues that arose.
Through the questionnaire, we found that 88.2% of people choose accommodation and food as their most expensive items in a month.

13.7% of people’s living expenses are between 0-1000 NZD. 37.3% of people’s living expenses are between 1000-2000 NZD. 27.5% of the people’s living expenses are between 2000-3000 NZD. Only a small number of 9.8% of people’s living expenses are between 3000-4000 NZD.

82.4% of international students are financed by their parents. 27.5% of international students their living expenses come from a part-time job. 3.9% of international students their living expenses come from scholarships. 5.9% of international students their living expenses come from student loans.

We learned from this and after discussion decided to build on the original and develop a detailed questionnaire and to focus on the expenditure, characteristics, and factors of international students. This will give us more clarity of thought.

Halima - Silver - Unit 1 Part B - Reflection 2

How are you skills developing?
Today was my third day in editing the behind the scenes footage and I am working with another participant who is in charge of BTS editing. My skills are developing as I am slowly learning how to use proffesional editing software over the course of edit week.
Is anything going particularly well?
We have made progress however the editing can be a very lengthly and tiring job. We had to look through many videos, select the best ones, cut bits out, control the sound and add the titles.
Is there anything you find challenging?
The hardest thing is trying to stick to the time limit and choosing which videos we will have to cut in order to do so. I have learnt more about using premier pro in the last few days which I had never used before, I am also going to edit the main film which should be interesting as the approach to BTS and the main film is very different.
Do you need to adjust your action plan?
I don’t need to adjust my action plan, however I didn’t plan on editing the BTS film originally I thought I would be focusing more on the main.

This is us editing BTS.
These are all the files we had sorted all the footage into so we could find and access the footage easily while editing.
This is the timeline of the beginning of the BTS film, we had to adjust the audio volume for a few clips as some were louder than others and we had to balance out the volume between the audio and the music.
Here is the timeline for the whole film, the pink rectangles are all the titles, the blue ones are all the clips and the big box below is the audio which took very long to level throughout the film as we had to keep changing it to get it at the right volume in contrast with the music.
