Not what it seems

Have you ever encounter someone who you think needs their space? Maybe you’ve seen them battling conflicting emotions or dealing with personal problems and you think to yourself “I should give him/her some space”. I know the sentiment is a good one, you are a nice person and you want to do the best for that individual/friend because you care for them. But, sometimes, that person that’s hurting doesn’t want to be alone, maybe that person it’s not looking for space but rather is looking for something to stand on because when everything else is crumbling you look for something stable and that might be someone to lean on.

I know some independent individuals would prefer to be alone in some periods of time to figure stuff out because they cherish those moments of self reflection and getting to know themselves. But it’s not always the case, even the stronger ones break down and open up, and they will need someone of trust to do so; if you are not there, who are they going to turn to?

We should never assume by looking at someone, that that person is doing fine on their own, maybe they are maybe they are not. It’s not always what it seems. After all we are humans, and interacting with our surroundings involves having interpersonal relationships with others; so we need to learn how to stablish a healthy one we someone needs us or when we want to reach out for help.

Communication is an awesome muscle we need to exercise more. Maybe, just maybe, the world would be a better place if we did.

Reflectionday op Bonifatiusschool

De gemeente Asten deed dit jaar met het programma ‘Asten maakt verkeersveiligheid zichtbaar’ mee aan het provinciale verkeersveiligheidsthema ‘Zichtbaarheid’. De laatste activiteiten vonden op donderdag 21 november plaats op de St. Bonifatiusschool in Asten met een reflectiedag en verkeersquiz. Samen met Jan van Schijndel van Van SchijndelAdvies deelde wethouder Theo Martens namens de gemeente en als MRE-verkeersveiligheidsambassadeur gele verkeershesjes uit aan de kinderen.
