It responds to a call to change models of thought, habits and patterns that lead to the depleation of nature. I think that most often, change is happening when different mindsets meet - this is why the books aims at creating connections and conversations between scientific concepts or findings and art and artistic practice. Exposition "les ombres errantes", un dialogue entre la littérature et les arts visuels sous la direction artistique de Yijun Chen à l'Université Paris VIII.

Je tiens à féliciter Yijun Chen pour la réussite de son premier projet d'exposition et à remercier Alya Ben Amor qui a augmenté  les  relations de mon travail avec ce lieu et son environnement. 

"En mettant en relation des graines de semence extraites du livre «les ombres errantes» de Pascal Quignard et des oeuvres multimédias de la plasticienne  tunisienne Souad Mani, l’exposition qui porte le même titre que l’ouvrage  représente  un terreau fertile dans lequel fleurit le dialogue expérimental entre littérature et arts visuels. Comme dans un jardin, les textes littéraires et les formes visuelles parsemés entre le sol et les murs de la salle d'exposition offrent au spectateur un entrelacement de signes et de mouvements du regard. Les bourgeons imagés et textuels de deux intensités s’y répondent comme des branches, des  feuilles et des fruits qui dévoilent une diversité de langages et d'écritures. L'exposition se veut une errance entre la fiction, la science et l’abstraction. Elle donne à voir une pluralité de formes et une variété de thématiques : poétiques, philosophiques et scientifiques qui esquissent une cartographie sans frontières autour des récits sur le temps et l'individu. Les thèmes du passé, du langage, du désir sexuel ou de la mort qui traversent l'œuvre littéraire de Pascal Quignard se connectent et font « capture » avec les multiplicités de la pensée nomade et  en réseau de Souad Mani et son processus de création relationnel. Dans cette exposition, elle propose de voir une sélection de ses projets dont la majorité sont des fragments d'œuvres-lignes engagées dans le temps, réalisée seule ou avec d’autres artistes avec qui elle dialogue. Sa sélection va de la vidéo de la photographie, de la trace de ses expériences dans la nature jusqu’à la datavisualisation. La quête poétique de Souad Mani dans la vidéo « Souvenirs du présent» trouve son ombre dans la série d’images «Immanences», une collaboration en cours avec le photographe algérien Hakim Rezaoui et aussi dans ses actions land art  «points d'ancrage».  Elle continue avec cette dernière forme par un acte de semence physique, abstrait et métaphorique qui renvoie au rapport à la géographie de son être, à celle de l'univers et aux relations multiples qu’elle a créées à travers le temps via son processus pollinisateur et relationnel. Du poétique elle oriente son regard vers les transformations écologiques en explorant les propriétés de l’air de Paris lors de son intervention land art  «Point d’ancrage » réalisée en Forêt d’Armainvilliers près de Paris en Août 2019, qu’elle traduit par des datavisualisations sous forme de points parsemés selon un ordre  soumis à des valeurs purement  scientifiques  et des mesures des taux de carbone, d’humidité et de température pendant un instant  sur un point géographique bien précis. « Impressions embarquées», est une des représentations des «motifs» d’informations qu’elle extrait de la nature en collaboration avec le collectif Apo33. Ou encore, il s'agit d'une plaine illimitée. Arpenter l'exposition « les ombres errantes » et sa scénographie c’est être dans un milieu où poussent des signes et des mouvements irrigués par les régimes de pensées de l’écrivain et de l’artiste multimédia. Décentrés, la littérature et les arts visuels franchissent la limite de la discipline, se croisent, renaissent, miroitent et s'augmentent. Visiteurs et lecteurs s’emparent de l'exposition et augmentent ses orientations diverses par présences ou traces. Leurs traces laissées, continueront en dehors du champ de White cube. Cette exposition nous invite à entrer dans un monde polyphonique, un monde de dialogue également repartit entre des voix multiples. La multiplicité, le dialogue, l’ouverture et l’inachevé de cette « pensée polyphonique », représentent aussi la multitude et la fragmentation du monde réel. "

There is a gap between the black and white fantasies that swirl around in my head and the grey that materializes in reality. Sometimes this leads me to entertain thoughts about the practicality of a time machine, even if just to be able to go back, slap some sense into myself, then disappear back into the future.

In the song, Rockfour sings, “in a twisted maze of alternate reality, thoughts are light and knowledge is a value.” Honestly, if I could, I would go back to shake myself up a bit and then evaporate. To shed some light on the trains of thought, to prevent mistakes and settle doubts. Maybe this chronicity is predetermined, like the tastes I imagined for the time machine. I wanted to reinvent, to change it up a bit, but in the end I stuck with the same tastes I thought of in the beginning: timeless tastes in any reality, even an alternate one.

*a career highlight* its 2016 winter afternoon in Central Library Cape Town, dj Dr Mojo plugs into the sound system of library announcements and plays a set that was tailored for the place. it started with a rooster crow, continued with abdulah ibrahim, and ended with nina simone's baltimore. // public spaces re-imagined, softly, smoothly, in style and in peace // some folk came asking for the playlist later // that was one of the features of the programme i co-curated for Public Art and the Power of Place conference, in tight collaboration of African Centre for Cities, led by another Dr - Rike Sitas, and the welcoming library management. a truly open gathering that i am proud of & grateful for a long list of contributors, like my good friend and dj Joanne Corrigall of Dr Mojo Films & Music <3 here's to many more such happenings!

Rirkrit Tiravanija’s, “Pad thai”(left) and “The land Project” (right). One of the most well known and also maybe first as an artist to inhabit the term “relational art”. Tiravanija is a big influence for me, he finds ways to involve and to create discussion with in the audience. being cautious of his impact and how to live a sustainable life. The Land Project is an ongoing thing where he looks at the sustainment of a farm in thailand and how the growing community can live a sustainable life with very little and how they can feed off it and grow as a whole.
