#remember to appreciate the fic writers

hi. hello. it’s me, everyone’s favorite mochi /j. I have a little thought for you all.

I hold my hands out to you, a gentle reminder to send some love to your fic writers. it’s easy to read a fic and go “that was great!” and close out of it. but it’s not easy to write said fic.

some writers spend hours agonizing over their writing. some take weeks or even months to write due to reasons out of their control. and some completely give up because they lose the motivation.

a lot of work goes into the fics you read. work that’s free. so here is your gentle reminder that while you aren’t obligated to, it brightens a writer’s day when you leave them something nice. a comment, a kudos, a message of some kind. it’s a way of saying “I see this. And I enjoy it. Please keep doing what you’re doing.”

some writer’s get lost in their head, they get a little insecure. so just… go on and give them some love, yeah? let them know you appreciate what they do <3

Can I bitch for a second? Like, I just want to understand why, in the past few years, comments and reblogs on fics have gone the fuck down. Like why? What fucking changed?

In 2020 and 2021, I used to get comments all the time on almost all my fics and now it's like...I'm lucky to get any. I also know that I write for small fandoms so like, that's a contributing factor, but still. Even with my latest multichapter fic, there are no subscriptions. Like, everything has just gone down.

And while I realize that the pandemic happened in 2020-2021, the decline has been happening for a while, especially here on tumblr. Comments and reblogs and asks about fics are just...not really a thing anymore.

And people wonder why writers don't wanna continue. Yeah, yeah, that whole thing of write for yourself, we all write for ourselves, lets be honest. We do. But we also want to share our creations with you because that's the whole fucking point of art. You want to share it with others and have them appreciate the work and time you put into it. And we'd like to hear feedback! It's literally not a bad thing to want comments. And people need to stop making writers feel bad for saying they want comments. And reblogs. Likes and kudos are great but they don't do anything. They just tell us that you liked the fic/work. But they don't tell us what you thought, what moved you, what rewired your brain, what made your heart thump or flutter or clench. That's what comments tell us. That's why we want comments. We want to see our fics through your eyes.

Writers shouldn't have to beg for interactions, so please. Reblog and leave comments on fics. Please. It's really the least you could do

Sometimes it's a weird feeling to miss an art, post, fic, or comment I read months before that I really loved but lost track of.

It's nostalgic but I will always love that piece of thought a person wrote and left for anybody to enjoy.

Fanfic Writer Appreciation Day!

Alright, I'll admit that I completely forgot about this day until I saw the post about it yesterday.

Happy fanfic writer's appreciation day to all fanfic writers readers out there! You work hard to provide people with entertainment and I know sometimes we get a lot of hate and don't feel appreciated but that doesn't stop you. Carlos felt suddenly cold all over. Strand- "you're Chief Owen Strand's kid?" Carlos asked, tense and watching the other man closely. Cops were the worst gossips, or the best, depending on one's definition, so Carlos had unwillingly heard about the new guy quite a bit.

Strand pursed his lips, jaw tightening, and swallowed. He seemed to recover fast enough though, and merely nodded. "Will that be a problem?" He asked, and it seemed like a challenge.

That Carlos was saddled with the pretty boy rich kid, who probably only got this far because of his dad's connections? Yeah, that was a problem.
