These Fan theories have been released from after EOS as that is when I joined Tumblr, I lurked for a long time in the fandom, only liking and not re-blogging, then I started adding comments to other people’s posts, eventually re-blogging them. I was a serial lurker. haha. There is some amazing theories out there especially if you look for ‘tog6 theory’ in the fandom on older blogs - a time before we knew “Tower of Dawn” was going to be a full book. 

I have tried to source other Url’s in my theories if I expand on a point or want to give credit for the fact that they also had this type of theory, coz it's not cool to take other peoples ideas if you know they are out there (same ideas unknowingly being shared are ok because we can draw the same conclusions - I’m just sharing how I work and I like to give credit where it is due).  

As different books came out my theories changed.

As I re-read for the third or fourth time, my theories changed.

Some of my Theories I like.

Some I have drifted away from, like a friend you no longer see because you’re too busy.

Some I think might still be valid - if only a small proportion of them.

I write theories with an open mind. I put them out into the world with the hope that people will discuss them with me when I do that. Some of my theories weren’t really seen by others because I was/am a small blog and I’m ok with that. And some theories blew up because a few big blogs shared it and i’m ok with that too.

If you disagree with the Erilea post I have written, I keep an open mind to all possibilities.

And The reason I choose not to fully believe SJM’s tweet about ACOTAR and TOG being linked is because of three reasons. The first is that she said they could live in the same multi-verse (so a “sliders” style parallel universe perhaps?). The Second is that she used a winky face! A winky face in the tweet. What does that mean!!!! And the Third is that I read another book series by Terry Brooks and he said his series were not linked for the longest time. Then years later he said -oh yeah, they are linked and this series is kinda a prequel but I couldn’t tell you that at the time, because “spoilers”. And I think Sarah would twist the truth to keep us from looking too closely and ruining our own enjoyment of her books. Also it is just a theory. Does it really matter? Pretend its an AU type of thing :P.

However some of them I really really am invested in (e.g. my Truth Teller theory because it just feels so right to me and the Weavers Lament because it feels right too). And I just really really want to be told that I have something right!

I’m making a Masterlist of my work. Mostly Theory but I dabbled in some fic writing as well, it just depends on my mood. So I have also included some of those pieces. Theories tend to come thick and fast when a new book is released and discussed. Or when we all re-read before the next book comes out - as you will see by my published dates. Have a browse - I’ve left the this as Url’s rather than hyperlinks because it makes it easier for me to keep track of what I do and don’t have listed. I may change it later if I feel like it. :D

I hope I found everything, sifting through my long ass blog is annoying.

Some of my Older Theories below have the assumption that ACOTAR is based on a bible based world or at least some of the characters are. However my thoughts have changed since writing these theories. I didn’t understand how much from all mythologies and religions around the world cross-over, so It's possible this is still true, or that SJM drew some ideas from it; but it's equally possible that she drew from greek/ roman/ norse/ egyptian/ jewish/ christian / folk tales etc etc. it is very hard when theory is an ever evolving process involving lots of discussion and viewpoints. So I still love these theories but I do recognise that anything is possible. Also comparative theology would be freaking amazing to study and I kind of wish I was still at uni.

First Appearance: Chains of Melody

History: Alaine spent her childhood helping her parents with their livelihoods. She gathered alchemy ingredients with her mother and picked salvage from the swamp with her father.

But Alaine’s parents wanted a better future for her, so they began saving money to send her to school in Zareen Empire. Unfortunately, Alaine fell victim to an undine’s song when she was just 8 years old. Alaine was turned into a mermaid and spent the next decade brainwashed by the Aquarian Alliance, serving as a soldier in their military.

At some point she suffered a head injury in battle. This injury seemed to give her a moment of clarity. However, the Sovereign did not appreciate this clarity and send a battalion to attack her village as punishment.

Helpless to stop him, Alaine slipped in and out of clarity for the next several years. At the Battle of Driza, she escaped the Aquarian Alliance with the help of a rival force, the Oceanic Resistance. She encountered the great ocean divines, Salina and Marina, who pointed her towards her village.

But when she arrived, the people rejected her, for she was a mermaid. She then moved to Driza and worked as a lowly entertainer, at least until she was approached by the Freelance Good Guys. Alaine proved her worth after helping them destroy an Aquarian Alliance base and soon joined the crew.

Personality: While she’s no longer brainwashed, Alaine’s time with the Aquarian Alliance has left lasting scars upon her. She is compulsively messy, promiscuous, and attention-seeking, as she feels she spent too long being an obedient drone.

Emotionally she is childish and often volatile. However, she’s considered the most skilled combatant of all the Freelance Good Guys. Alaine hates being alone and prefers to spend her free time dancing, partying, and playing music on her lute. She is warm, protective, and loyal to those she loves. Her persistence is her greatest strength as well as her greatest downfall.

But it is awesome.

Those *other* Conrad Veidt films of queer interest

Now, almost everyone who’s heard of Conrad Veidt has also heard that he played the first explicitly homosexual character in cinema in the gay rights film Different From The Others, in 1919, and perhaps also that he was bisexual himself. But fewer people would know he starred in several other films of queer interest, some in which the queerness is merely a hint, some in which it’s so blatant it emerges out of the subtext into the text, and some where the queerness is a major part of the text. So I thought I’d list the *other* surviving/available Veidt films of queer interest (all available from veidtveidtveidt ) for your perusal.  The categories are more than a little fluid and I’m sure that someone else might categorise these films differently, but this is how they appear to my eyes when I move the queer/slash fangirls goggles aside–except for the “slash” category, of course. So, here we go:

Films with actual queer text: -Der Geiger von Florenz (The Violinist of Florence, or Impetuous Youth), 1926

A Freudian tale from beginning to end. At the time, Freud was at the height of his success and there were several films being made that took his theories quite seriously indeed–in this case, the exploration focuses on the Electra complex (the female version of the Oedipus complex) and its relation to sexual/gender variance. 

Renee (Elisabeth Bergner), a feisty young girl, has severe daddy issues. To the point where she cannot bear it when her widowed father (Veidt) remarries, and she keeps on trying to sabotage her father’s relationship with his new wife. Her father sends her to a Swiss boarding school, but she soon runs away, dressed as a boy, across the border to Italy. In Florence, she poses as a violinist and becomes quite a success on the streets. Soon, she is spotted by a young artist (Walter Rilla)–who lives in a romantic relationship with his own sister (Grete Mosheim), like they were husband and wife. He finds the young violinist so beautiful he wants to paint “him.” He invites the “boy” to live with himself and his sister, and they both develop crushes on her–the artist offers to wash “his” back in the shower and the sister realises Renee’s actually a girl in drag, but that just excites her. Tension mounts until the painting the artist made of the young violinist makes it to international newspapers, and the girl’s father recognises his daughter, immediately travelling to Florence to be reunited with her. Her secret is discovered and at the end of the film, we see her (still in drag) embracing the artist–and as she’s just been shown being groped by the sister (and enjoying it), it’s basically implied that she will now be living together with the artist and his sister in a happy, incestuous bisexual threesome. Not joking. And it’s a happy ending, too, in case you were wondering.

-Die Andere Seite (1931)

This is a German talkie version of Journey’s End, a World War I play by R.C. Sherriff and originally filmed in English by James Whale a little earlier. The story is a bleak, grey and heartbreaking glimpse into the brief lives of a company of doomed English soldiers in the trenches. It shows men, old and young alike, at their most raw and vulnerable, clinging desperately to alcohol, duty, their memories of their girlfriends–but most importantly, each other–as they fall apart mentally and physically, hurtling towards inevitable destruction. Veidt plays Captain Stanhope, whose men look up to him, but who is falling apart and sinking into the bottle himself. Grim viewing, but with superb acting performances, and it’s hard not to weep as you watch these doomed souls snatching but tiny pieces of comfort and tenderness from each other as the shells come down and everybody dies. Connie’s drunk, broken, despairing whisper of “Küss mich?” (“Kiss me?”) to his superior officer whom he idolises–it’s dark and we cannot even see his face–is gut-wrenching. Edited to add the fact that we now have engsubs for this! I ripped them from a rare (unavailable or not easily available to the public) copy and you can get them on the masterpost.

Renee’s Fan Theories for SJM (ACOTAR and TOG)- that she still likes...

So I’ve written a few theories and now I’m not sure I completely agree with my first thoughts for some of them. Especially as I look further into it. But I thought I would put a small list together of my current theories - the ones I still like. haha. So if you are interested in this sort of stuff it’s easier to find with Tumblr’s lovely new updates and such. I will put them in the order that I have posted them because I think you will see things change in my thinking as I have discussions with people in the fandom. For example I now think Erilea and Prythian are parallel worlds not the same world, which I initially thought in my Erilea post.

This series of posts I did might still have merit - But I am not as invested as I was when I wrote them. Since seeing the crossover possibilities in My Erilea post (which came after these posts) I think the parallels are still possible, but I don’t particularly think Prythian or Erilea is based on a “bible stories” but rather other Mythologies. E.g. Prythian - Greek and Erilea a different Mythology. 

However if you view another world (not Prythian or Erilea) as having a bible type of mythology - and certain characters being taken from that world aka Amren, The Bone Carver, The Weaver, and Koschei, then my theory could provide background information for these characters. Because the Bone Carver mentions that his world has most likely “turned to dust” it is a possibility that he came from a place based on the bible.

We know that Sarah J Maas has used fairytales for her inspiration e.g. Beauty and the Beast, Hades and Persephone

My Theory has more to do with World Building, and Histories

I don’t know much about the Bible - and I don’t mean to Offend Anybody. 

So please understand that I have looked at the bible/other bible stories “just as another story” to compare its parallels with ACOTAR, ACOMAF and ACOWAR.

I have never read or studied the Bible previously, and I have only just looked into it this week.

It is a super long book/books/compendium so I won’t have all the parallels that are possible because it is just huge! (Maybe if you do know the Bible you might see more and share with the class?).

I Feel that my Theory overlaps the stories that Sarah has “picked parts” from previously, so they work together.

I have not written this as an essay, but presented what I have in the easiest way for me. If I was at Uni I would write a beautiful essay on only one component… but I’m not. I don't have time for that, and I wanted to look at as many aspects as possible.

Remember it is just a theory - It will give you more questions than answers (it has for me). :)
