U.S. Rep. Ro Khanna on Wednesday urged the Biden administration to cut off sales of weaponry and crucial plane parts to Saudi Arabia as the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries—a cartel led by the Saudis—agreed to slash oil production in a bid to prop up falling prices, a move that could inflict more pain on American consumers.
"President Biden should make it clear that we will stop supplying the Saudis with weapons and air parts if they fleece the American people and strengthen [Russian President Vladimir] Putin by making drastic production cuts," Khanna (D-Calif.) told The Washington Post in an interview as OPEC members met in Vienna.
"They need us far more than we need them," Khanna added.
The Biden White House launched a pressure campaign earlier this week in a last-ditch bid to stop OPEC from cutting supply, characterizing such a move as a "hostile act."
But the administration's efforts failed. On Wednesday, OPEC members agreed to slash their combined production by two million barrels a day, the largest supply cut since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
Saudi Arabia is the second-largest oil producer in the world behind the U.S., and the Biden administration has sought cooperation from the kingdom's murderous leaders as Russia's war on Ukraine continues to rattle global energy markets, elevating prices for consumers. While not a formal OPEC member, Russia—the world's third-largest oil producer—often works with the international cartel.
In July, U.S. President Joe Biden held a widely condemned meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss the global oil supply, among other issues.
Tumblr media
The White House has warned an OPEC production cut could reverse the large and consistent declines in U.S. gas prices over the past several months, just in time for the pivotal midterm elections. Expectations of a production cut have already driven oil prices up significantly in recent days.
"We've been clear that energy supply should meet demand to support economic growth and lower prices for consumers around the world and we will continue to talk with our partners about that," White House National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said in a statement Tuesday.
Khanna, a progressive seen by some as a future presidential candidate, is a longtime critic of the Saudi regime—particularly its devastating assault on Yemen. He has been pushing the White House in recent days to respond forcefully to any OPEC production cut.
"It's outrageous. The Saudis need to be dealt with harshly," Khanna told CNN in an interview earlier this week. "They are a third-rate power. We are the most powerful country in the world. I don't know why we kowtow to them."
"They are not our allies," the California Democrat added. "They are hurting the American people. And we need to be tough with them. The President needs to make it clear we will cut off their supply. We could ground their air force in a day."
Sen. Bernie Sanders on Wednesday called for an end to U.S. military aid to Saudi Arabia after the kingdom and other major oil-producing nations agreed to slash output by two million barrels a day, a move that could significantly drive up gas prices worldwide as a global recession looms.
In a social media post, Sanders (I-Vt.) denounced the Saudi-led OPEC cartel over its "blatant attempt to increase gas prices at the pump," which he said "cannot stand."
"We must end OPEC's illegal price-fixing cartel, eliminate military assistance to Saudi Arabia, and move aggressively to renewable energy," the Senator added.
Sanders was one of several members of the U.S. Democratic caucus who responded with outrage to OPEC and Russia's decision, which is set to take effect in November as the midterm elections kick off.
Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) announced Wednesday that he will be reintroducing legislation instructing U.S. officials to "initiate dispute proceedings" against OPEC members at the World Trade Organization for violating the body's price-manipulation rules.
"As we build our clean energy future, we must stand up to the oil-soaked global cartel that seeks to abuse its power to raise prices and boost their profits," Markey said in a statement. "Today's OPEC announcement is a reminder that as long as the United States is dependent on foreign oil and on domestic oil that is priced on a global market, the supply and cost of the energy Americans use to operate our cars, heat our homes, and power our economy is reliant on decisions made by and for hostile fossil-fueled regimes."
"We must hold OPEC and its allies accountable for colluding to hike energy prices on working families," Markey added, "and we must accelerate our transition to clean energy to free ourselves from their profiteering, colluding grip once and for all."
Reps. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.), Sean Casten (D-Ill.), and Susan Wild (D-Pa.), meanwhile, unveiled legislation that would require the removal of U.S. troops and missile defense systems from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), another OPEC member.
"Saudi Arabia and the UAE's drastic cut in oil production, despite President Biden's overtures to both countries in recent months, is a hostile act against the United States and a clear signal that they have chosen to side with Russia in its war against Ukraine," the House Democrats said in a joint statement Wednesday.
"Both countries have long relied on an American military presence in the Gulf to protect their security and oil fields," the trio added. "We see no reason why American troops and contractors should continue to provide this service to countries that are actively working against us."
Tumblr media
The Biden White House has thus far indicated that it is considering a number of policy responses to "reduce OPEC's control over energy prices"—signaling a possible revival of NOPEC legislation—but the administration hasn't specifically said it would target U.S. military assistance to the Saudis.
According to a recent study by the Government Accountability Office, the Pentagon delivered at least $54.6 billion of military aid to Saudi Arabia and the UAE between fiscal years 2015 and 2021, support that included missiles, helicopters, and bombs.
The U.S. has also spent hundreds of millions of dollars in recent years refueling Saudi and UAE jets as they attacked Yemen, sparking a humanitarian catastrophe that continues in the present.
Despite the President's campaign pledge to make the kingdom a "pariah" over its assassination of Jamal Khashoggi, the Biden administration has continued to approve massive weapons sales to the Saudis, including a multibillion-dollar sale of missiles in August. A month earlier, Reuters reported that the Biden administration was considering lifting its ban on "offensive" weapons sales to the Saudis.
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) has been vocally pressing the Biden administration to halt U.S. military support for Saudi Arabia in response to OPEC's coming production cut, blasting the petrostate as a "third-rate power" that is "hurting the American people."
On Wednesday, Khanna co-authored an op-ed calling for an end to "missile and weapons system sales Saudi so desperately needs."
"By siding with Russia in hiking oil prices and sabotaging our economy," Khanna and two others wrote, "the Saudis have really outfoxed themselves this time—it was a time for choosing, and they picked the wrong side."

by Chuck Ross
When two of Rep. Susan Wild’s constituents, a mother-daughter pair, wrote the Pennsylvania Democrat urging her to support Israel in its fight against Hamas, they received not one but two letters in response. One declared support for Israel and its "right to defend itself." The other called for international pressure on the Jewish state and an "immediate ceasefire."
The dueling letters, obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, were both sent on May 21 and signed by Rep. Wild herself. They appear to be stock letters drafted by Wild's office. While pushing out such letters to constituents is standard for a member of Congress, Wild's letters provide drastically different assessments of the war that are now public after Wild inadvertently sent one version to the mother and the other to the daughter.
In the pro-Israel missive, the congresswoman said she was "outraged, devastated, and heartbroken" over the "vicious" Hamas attack. She expressed support for "the Israeli people and all fellow Jews" and reiterated Israel’s "right to defend itself." She also pledged to "do everything I can as your representative to ensure Israel has the ability and capacity to restore and maintain its security and safety of all its citizens."
Tumblr media
In a contradictory letter sent to the daughter, the congresswoman also said she was "outraged, devastated, and heartbroken." But this time, she was devastated about the "unspeakable tragedy continuing to unfold in Gaza," adding that the Israeli military "has inflicted devastation on staggering numbers of innocent Palestinian children, families, and civilians in Gaza." She called for an "immediate ceasefire" and pledged to "always listen and fully consider" the perspective of Israel's enemies.
Tumblr media
The two letters are an embarrassing mixup for Wild, who is running for reelection in one of the country's tightest House races. It comes as she works to moderate her policy positions on immigration, energy, crime, and other hot-button issues in the wake of a redistricting cycle that added Trump-loving Carbon County to her swing district. (Earlier this year, Wild was caught on a Zoom call deriding the county's residents as bigots who "drank the Trump Kool-Aid." In 2022, she was also caught on tape saying she needed to "school" Carbon County residents for their support of Trump.)
Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, which Wild represents, has a substantial Arab population in addition to an engaged Jewish community. For the constituents who wrote to Wild, the conflicting letters raise questions about the congresswoman’s authenticity.
"She tells one group one thing and tells another group another thing," said one of Wild’s constituents, who spoke to the Free Beacon on condition of anonymity over concerns about retribution from anti-Israel activists.
"I’ve never believed when she spoke about Israel that she was being authentic," this person said. "She has definitely favored the pro-Palestinian voters."

book recs: june 2024
it's been a weird few months of swinging wildly between mood reading of new things and needing to reread old favourites. all of these were new-to-me, and * means I read an ARC so they're not out yet BUT keep your eyes peeled/preorder if you like the sound of them.
SOMEONE YOU CAN BUILD A NEST IN by john wiswell - sapphic monster romance but make it asexual rep (woo!) between a protagonist who is usually a ball of shapeshifting goo, and a woman whose awful family is trying to hunt down the shapeshifting monster. it's both delightfully gruesome and a sweet, angry story about two hurt people finding and saving one another. this book deserves to become tumblr-famous.
LORD OF SCOUNDRELS by loretta chase - an absolute platinum-level classic in regency romance history, and for good reason. jessica trent: best heroine to ever appear on the page. wild hijinks, superb feelings, jessica can we please be best friends so you can teach me all about your antiques dealership.
THE SAINT OF BRIGHT DOORS by vajra chandrasekera - everyone describes this as 'impossible to describe' and they're right. truly original urban-ish fantasy about the oppression of underclasses, magic, identity, the inconvenience of being prophesied to kill your father, and a support group for failed messiahs. it's splendid and will stretch your mind like a muscle.
ALL THE SINNERS BLEED - by s.a. cosby - a contemporary crime thriller about a black sheriff in the american south trying to catch a serial killer in the face of systemic racism and obstruction. dark themes, wonderfully written, extremely gripping: I read it in a day.
THE UNDERHISTORY by kaaron warren - an elderly woman running tours of her infamously 'haunted' family home is confronted with a group of dangerous escaped killers looking for somewhere to hide. half slowburn crime horror and half a fantastic, meandering exploration of one person's history. you all know I love a vaguely fucked-up house, and this one comes with an older protagonist hiding secrets of her own.
THE DEATH OF VIVEK OJI by akwaeke emezi - there's a new emezi book coming out soon so I finally let myself read this one! a brief, bittersweet slap of a novel about gender and sexuality and family and longing, told in emezi's uniquely electrifying prose style. I wish I could write like this.
THE FRIEND ZONE EXPERIMENT* by zen cho - zen's first contemporary romance! inspired by kdrama tropes! a hardworking singaporean entrepreneur heroine in london! I enjoyed the romance itself but even more I enjoyed watching renee fight to prove herself in the face of various terrible men.
THE FORMIDABLE MISS CASSIDY* by meihan boey - if susan sto helit is your favourite discworld character, you will love the hell out of this. no-nonsense magical governess deals with folklore monsters and social drama in 19th century singapore. lively and heaps of fun. I wish it was an episodic buffy-esque tv show.
THE PAIRING* by casey mcquiston - two exes accidentally reunite on a food & wine tour of europe for the sluttiest and most self-indulgent bisexual summer ever. food porn, drinks porn, european scenery porn, feelings porn, porn-porn: this is a book that is 95% Various Vibes and Porn and if that sounds like your kind of thing, you'll love it. warning: will make you very hungry.

Common Dreams
May 15, 2024
"It's past time our leaders take this simple step and stop funding activities that are completely at odds with protecting our climate," one advocate said.
More than 200 environmental and climate advocacy groups sent a letter to Congress on Wednesday demanding that lawmakers stop funding the extraction of fossil fuels on public lands and waters.
The letter argues that Congress' annual approval of taxpayer funds to subsidize oil and gas drilling and coal mining "undermine" the international agreement reached at the United Nations COP28 climate conference last year on the need for "transitioning away from fossil fuels."
"Congress has coddled the fossil fuel industry for decades, scarring millions of acres of public lands in the process," Ashley Nunes, public lands policy specialist at the Center for Biological Diversity, said in a statement. "It's past time our leaders take this simple step and stop funding activities that are completely at odds with protecting our climate."
"Every year that Congress keeps supporting status quo drilling on public lands and offshore waters is a missed opportunity that locks us into a hotter and more dangerous future."
The Center for Biological Diversity was one of 234 groups behind the letter, which was addressed to Senate Appropriations Chair Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Appropriations Vice Chair Sen. Susan Collins (R-Me.), House Appropriations Chair Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) and House Appropriations Ranking Member Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.). Specifically, the letter asks that the lawmakers "zero out funding for all fossil fuel extraction on public lands and offshore waters" in the Department of the Interior's budget for the coming fiscal year.
"Despite the urgency of the climate crisis, year after year, and regardless of the which political party retains control of Congress, Congress continues to direct the Department of the Interior to authorize fossil fuel extraction on our public lands and oceans," the letter states. "This zombie funding continues despite its harmful and lasting impacts to tribal nations, frontline communities, and other groups, as well as its harm to public health, public lands, the climate, and wildlife populations."
The FY 2024 budget, for example, directed more than $160 million toward fossil fuel management on public lands and waters. The amount earmarked for oil and gas management on public lands alone jumped by almost 90% from 2016 to 2023, from $59.7 million to $112.9 million.
Despite calling the climate crisis an "existential threat," U.S. President Joe Biden has approved almost 10,000 permits for oil and gas drilling on public lands in three years, a similar rate to his predecessors and more in his first two years than former President Donald Trump. Under Biden's watch, the U.S. became the leading producer of oil both in the world and in human history. The groups who signed the letter attributed this in part to Congress' "status quo funding" of fossil fuel programs on public lands.
The letter comes as humanity just sweltered through its hottest year on record, atmospheric carbon dioxide levels made a record jump, and a vast majority of top climate scientists recently surveyed said they predicted 2.5°C of warming by 2100, largely because of a lack of "political will" to phase out fossil fuels and embrace the renewable energy transition.
Indeed, the latest Production Gap analysis concludes that governments' plans through 2030 would produce more than twice the amount of fossil fuels that would be compatible with limiting global heating to 1.5°C above preindustrial levels.
"Climate scientists around the world are pleading for change, but Congress continues to let fossil fuel polluters run wild on our public lands," Nunes said. "Every year that Congress keeps supporting status quo drilling on public lands and offshore waters is a missed opportunity that locks us into a hotter and more dangerous future."
In particular, the green groups made the following recommendations for FY2025:
Ending Bureau of Land Management (BLM) funding for new oil and gas approvals;
Ending BLM funding for new coal leases and permits;
Ending Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) funding for all new oil and gas exploration, production, and drilling leases;
Ending the provision of the Inflation Reduction Act that requires Interior to put up at least 2 million acres of land and 60 million of water annually for oil and gas leasing before it can install any new wind and solar;
Putting $80 million toward BLM renewable energy programs; and
Putting $80 million toward BOEM renewable energy programs.
"Congress must end business as usual funding of fossil fuel extraction on public lands and waters," the letter concludes. "If Congress fails to change course, it will simply be impossible to limit warming to below 1.5°C and ensure a livable planet for future generations."

At least four senior House Democrats told House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Sunday that they are calling on President Joe Biden to step down from the presidential race, according to several sources with knowledge of the discussion on the private call.
Reps. Jerry Nadler, Mark Takano, Joe Morelle and Adam Smith stated Biden should step aside and no longer continue his campaign, sources told ABC News.
This is notable — it means the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, the ranking member of Veteran Affairs, the highest Democrat on the Administration Committee and the ranking member of the Armed Services Committee have privately conveyed Biden should step aside.
Rep. Don Beyer of Virginia, whose wife was a major Biden fundraiser in 2020, expressed some concerns about the president’s path forward, according to multiple sources. A spokesman posted on X that Beyer "supports President Biden and said so on this call and any reporting to the contrary is a misunderstanding of what he said and what he believes."
Jeffries did not express a position, according to one person on the call. That person tells ABC News the Democratic Leader said that he would engage with the caucus throughout the week, starting with these senior Democrats to solicit views on the path forward.
ABC News has reached out to reps for Beyer, Nadler, Takano, Morelle and Smith for comment.
When reached on Sunday, a Biden campaign adviser said the "simple math" shows that the vast majority of the caucus, including House Minority Leader Jeffries and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, is on Biden's side.
The campaign says they aren't backing down and they are "ready to fight."
On Sunday evening, Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. Susan Wild said in a statement that she "expressed the same concerns that Americans across the country are grappling with, about President Biden’s electability at the top of the ticket" on the House leadership call.
In her statement, she said, "In the coming days and weeks, I will operate as I always have, continuing to have these important conversations while keeping the best interests of my constituents at the forefront of every decision and statement I make."
Wild, facing a difficult reelection test, has avoided discussing Biden’s debate performance previously, declining multiple times since then to answer ABC News’ questions about the President’s future.

Can you recommend any contemporary romance novels? Thank you!
For sure!
One of my favorite contemporary series I read this year was Kylie Scott's Stage Dive series, which I recommend reading in full and in order. It's about a rock band and the women who fall in love with the members of the band, basically.
Lick--hero is the guitarist/songwriter, heroine wakes up with no memory of the previous night in Vegas and oops they're married
Play--hero is the wacky drummer, begins fake dating the level-headed heroine For Reasons
Lead--hero is the lead singer, had biiig addiction issues and is the older brother of the hero of Lick; heroine is his sober companion/assistant, and the professional lines are.... blurred, to say the least
Deep--hero is the bass player, has been tempted by the little sister of book 2's heroine for a while even though there's an 8-year age gap and he's been instructed to... not touch her; one night later and whoops, she's pregnant
American Royalty by Tracey Livesay--pitched as "what if Prince Harry fell for Megan Thee Stallion", and it is, delightfully, hilariously, very heatedly that
The Brown Sisters Trilogy by Talia Hibbert--Very fun, very soft, very hot. Book 1 has chronic pain rep with the heroine and book 3 both leads on the spectrum. I believe the hero of book 2 has anxiety.
Heated Rivalry and The Long Game by Rachel Reid--Must be read in order, TLG is the direct sequel to HR and about the same couple. Ilya and Shane are super-hyped up arch rival hockey players, the best of the best. What nobody knows is that they've been hooking up in secret since their rookie season. It's basically charting their relationship going from pure sex to love. Heated Rivalry is easily one of my favorite reads this year, and TLG is a great followup. Super hot, super romantic, Shane and Ilya are PERFECT leads--very uptight meets wild, very carefree slutty one has a secret emotional side and reserved one has a secret risky side.
A Merry Little Meet Cute by Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone--A porn star is brought in last minute to star in a Christmas Hallmark-type movie, with the knowledge that her porn career must stay a secret. But oops, the male lead of the movie is a former boy bander she used to have a crush on, and he's been subscribed to her OnlyFans for YEARS. Very fun, hot, and Christmassy.
Kiss An Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips--A wild 90s-era contemporary. The heroine (spoiled little rich girl) and hero (surly alpha) are pushed into an arranged marriage by the heroine's father, and plan on getting it annulled in six months. But lol turns out he is part of a TRAVELING CIRCUS and she has to spend those six months working the circus with him. Truly wacky and fun, great grovel.
Nobody's Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips--Another insane 90s contemporary. Heroine is extremely smart (graduated college at 14 smart) and always felt alienated due to her brain and lack of social skills. She wants a baby, but she wants the baby to be kinda mid intelligence-wise, and figures she should get knocked up by a stupid man in order to have an average baby. She targets a dumbass NFL quarterback, and after some maneuvering, ends up pregnant with no intention of ever telling him. Except, oops, turns out he is actually VERY smart, and he finds out and forces her to marry him because no kid of his will be a bastard!!! Truly insane, and TW because she does poke holes in the condom the first go (which doesn't take). The second go, he's just like "what the fuck ever let's just do this" and foregoes the condom by choice.
The Billionaire's Wake-up-call Girl by Annika Martin--Heroine is desperate to make it through a trial period at her new job because she needs the signing bonus to pay off a loan shark her ex got into trouble with (yes). Her boss instructs her to arrange a wake-up-call service for the company's billionaire CEO, but she puts it off and fucks up, which leads her to pretend to be the service and call him herself. He loves her abrasive attitude, and eventually they start talking... and phone sex happens... And it goes on from there.
The Roommate by Rosie Danan--Uptight heroine moves to take a chance on living with the guy she's always been into, but he flakes out and goes on tour with his band, leaving her with a replacement roommate. Except, whoops, turns out the new roommate is a rather successful porn star, and she can't quite look away from his work.
Priest by Sierra Simone--Tyler Bell is a Catholic priest, and is happy with his lot in life until Poppy shows up at confession. She begins confessing her rather interesting past, leading to him getting hot and bothered and the two of them eventually connecting emotionally. This is an erotic romance, with unique uses of holy oil and altars. Also, it does discuss the sexual abuse of a character off-page--not either of the leads, but it's plot important.
Queen Move by Kennedy Ryan--Heroine and hero were childhood sweethearts until conflict between their parents drove them apart. Years later, heroine is a successful political consultant, and hero is a father getting out of a messy relationship. They swing back into each other's lives and begin to discover the secrets in their families' pasts together.
The Kiss Quotient Trilogy by Helen Hoang--Kicks off with The Kiss Quotient, which is about a heroine on the spectrum hiring a male escort to teach her how to be good at sex, as she feels her stiffness in bed is keeping her from getting a lasting relationship (which is what she feels her family wants for her). Each book features a hero or heroine on the spectrum, and a hero or heroine (or both) of Vietnamese descent. The author is both, to be clear.
From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata--Hero and heroine are figure skaters who hate each other. Heroine's career is on a downward trajectory, and she's given a surprising opportunity to team up with the hero.

The House Ethics Committee said Thursday it has opened an investigation into Rep. George Santos, the New York Republican who has acknowledged lying about his background and whose finances are the subject of multiple law enforcement probes.
In a statement, the committee said it will "determine whether Representative George Santos may have: engaged in unlawful activity with respect to his 2022 congressional campaign; failed to properly disclose required information on statements filed with the House; violated federal conflict of interest laws in connection with his role in a firm providing fiduciary services; and/or engaged in sexual misconduct towards an individual seeking employment in his congressional office."
The announcement noted that "the mere fact of establishing an Investigative Subcommittee does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred."
In a tweet, Santos' office said he's "fully cooperating" with the investigation. "There will be no further comment made at this time,” the tweet said.
Tumblr media
Santos has acknowledged fabricating some aspects of his background, including his education and work experience, but has denied any criminal wrongdoing. He has maintained his campaign finances, including hefty loans he made to himself, were above board.
The investigative subcommittee will be chaired by Rep. David Joyce, R-Ohio with Rep. Susan Wild, D-Pa., as the panel's ranking member. The other members of the subcommittee are Reps. John Rutherford, R-Fl., and Glenn Ivey, D-Md.

Susan Wild (D-PA) applauded the publication of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) address during the partial government shutdown in 2019, according to comments reviewed by Breitbart News that she made under a Facebook post revealing his residence. The worrying remarks from Wild, who is in a tight race for reelection against Republican Ryan Mackenzie in Pennsylvania’s Seventh Congressional District, came in response to a January 16, 2019, post from a Facebook account belonging to a man named Paul Lichty.screenshotIn the post, which Breitbart News has archived but will not link to for McConnell’s safety and security, Lichty published his address.“Someone should take out a billboard,” Wild wrote from her personal Facebook account under the post.“Indeed!” responded Lichty.“In the suburbs of DC where many of those workers live,” Wild wrote back, seemingly musing about where such a billboard featuring his address should be placed. “They’re close enough to come ‘visit’ him.”Lichty said he hoped “a few (thousand/s) would show-up for a chat!”At the time, McConnell was under immense pressure as he refused to advance legislation to reopen the government unless then-President Donald Trump supported it. Trump had been clear that he would not sign legislation to reopen the government unless it included border funding. On January 15, 2016, a day before the address doxxing and Wild’s comment, McConnell had blocked two pieces of legislation to reopen the government that Sens. Trump had been clear that he would not sign legislation to reopen the government unless it included border funding. On January 15, 2016, a day before the address doxxing and Wild’s comment, McConnell had blocked two pieces of legislation to reopen the government that Sens. Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) sought consent on, as the Hill noted.McConnell said the Senate would not “participate in something that doesn’t lead to an outcome.”“The solution to this is a negotiation between the one person in the country who can sign something into law, the president of the United States, and our Democratic colleagues,” he added.President Donald J. (Official White House Photo by Shealah Craighead)Video from the Associated Press shows that federal workers also protested outside of McConnell’s on January 16, 2019, the day Wild called for his address to be plastered on a billboard.Ultimately, on January 25, 2019, Trump signed a three-week stopgap to end the partial shutdown.Revelations of Wild’s comments come on the heels of the near assassination of Trump in her home state of Pennsylvania after years of vitriolic rhetoric against Trump and MAGA voices from leading voices on the left, including President Joe Biden.Breitbart News reached out to Wild’s office on Friday and again on Sunday for comment regarding her 2019 Facebook comments, but did not receive a response.Protesters have shown up at McConnell’s doorstep multiple times in the past, both at his homes in Louisville and in Washington, DC.In September 2020, after McConnell said he would work to fill late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat, over 100 protesters went to his Louisville home, as the Louisville Courier Journal reported at the time.In November 2021, demonstrators with ShutDownDC went to his home in the nation’s capitol to protest his filibustering of Democrat bills, WDRB noted.“Rep. Resurfaced screenshots show the Dem congresswoman cheered on the publication of then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s address during the federal government shutdown in January 2019.
Then a first term rep, Wild made two comments under Facebook user Paul Lichty’s post sharing McConnell’s home address in Washington, D.C., suggesting it be emblazoned on a billboard, presumably to direct protesters to McConnell’s home.

House Democrats Call on Biden to Drop Out of Race
youtube
As the Democrats' pressure on Joe Biden to step aside continues following the first presidential debate on June 27, several ranking lawmakers on Sunday told House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries that the president needs to step aside, CNN reported.
During an almost two-hour call Jeffries held to discern how ranking members feel before lawmakers return to Congress, the number of Democrats calling for the president to rescind his bid for the nomination surpassed the number of those clamoring for him to stay.
Sources said Reps. Mark Takano of California, ranking member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee; Adam Smith of Washington, ranking member of the Armed Services Committee; Jim Himes of Connecticut, ranking member of the Intelligence Committee; Joe Morelle of New York, ranking member of the House Administration Committee; Susan Wild of Pennsylvania, ranking member of the Ethics Committee; and Jerry Nadler of New York, ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, were among those who opposed Biden as the nominee.
The number of members calling for Biden to step aside was greater than the number who said during the call that he should remain the nominee, CNN reported, citing one of its sources to the private call.
Central to the Democrat faction calling for Biden to resign from the race are those who fear they may lose the opportunity to take back the House in November if he is the party's nominee.
One source familiar with the call said it was generally accepted that Vice President Kamala Harris should be the party's nominee.
"It was pretty brutal," a senior Democratic aide familiar with the call told CNN.
The situation, developed out of Biden's debate performance, has spurred a schism in the Democrat Party, with those on one side making calls for Biden to step aside and the president stating as recently as Friday that it would take a sign from the "Lord Almighty" for him to drop out.
As Biden maintains he is resilient enough to continue running, Republicans continue to pressure the president and those around him.
On Sunday, House Oversight Chair James Comer, R-Ky., posted on X: "I'm calling on President Joe Biden's physician, Dr. Kevin O'Connor, to appear for a @GOPoversight transcribed interview regarding his medical assessments of Joe Biden & involvement in the Biden family's business schemes. Dr. O'Connor's medical assessments have been potentially influenced by his business pursuits with the Biden family."
