oomf (hi @dangantism) and i cooked up this theory where damon dies at around chapter 4/5 and kai takes up his role of protag..

spoilers for chapter 1 and yapfest below the cut about this theory/au if it doesnt become true

i also happen to really like the idea that kai wears damon's jacket for safekeeping/memory to keep damon close to him.. and the small sprout things on his head.. one of them is gonna be the ahoge.. it also kinda parallels diana and wolfgang with how diana decided to take up wg's mantle..

my personal (albeit insane) prediction is that eloise would kill damon for being the reason desmond got executed the previous chapter.. desmond killed someone to protect eloise and eloise helped cover it up.. but since damon found out, plus being an absolute asshole to eloise sometimes (her ftes for example), eloise hit her breaking point and killed damon. it also would be very interesting to see a partially hidden sequence of events of how damon dies.. like the viewer watches as damon slowly dies from an unknown culprit, as in the cg shows the grey man, theres no voicelines from the culprit, no sprite, nothing to indicate whodunnit until damon decides to bolt it out of the room and goes to kai, where we could have a cg of damon slowly dying and kai unable to help, with damon unable to give out clues since he's delirious from like blood loss or smth, then it would be a bda and then a smooth transition to kai's perspective and new role as the protag..

and my personal hc is that kai, before the trial, would wear one of damon's blazer as a memory so he could still keep damon close.. its also really interesting since kai doesnt seem to have many friends outside of his online persona, and the one from highschool he spoke about seems to be no longer in his life (either dead or cut him off we arent sure) since he acted melancholic about her, so i think this would give kai the determination to avenge damon since he was kai's closest friend ever since he became an influencer (if thing keep going positive between the two, which i think so since i believe kai's gonna be the next support after the red herring that is eva)

sure kai is gonna be absolutely heart-broken and distraught over damon's death but i believe that kai would recognise the gravity of the situation and focus on investigating for damon's sake even when he doesnt want to (as shown in ch0+1 he doesnt like investigating) because he understands the dangers of the killing game (as shown in his cautious nature, like for ex: the drugs in the pharmacy) so he would stomach it and do his best to find damon's killer

📚A Retelling/Modern Work You Like

Hmm what can I mention that I haven't a million times already? If people are interested a 4 book romance series that isn't Lavinia Collins, I liked Sarah Zettel's 4 books. My favorites are book 1 Ragnelle/Gawain and book 4 Laurel/Agravaine. Surprising no one. But the Lynet/Gareth installment is also solid, I used a quote from that in my Kay and kids webweave. Iirc, @wandrenowle read it in one sitting after my recommendation and loved it. So that's two endorsements. The biggest sin of this series is replacing Gaheris with Geraint. Yeah. He's their brother. I really detest him as a romance protag there's no salvaging it I'm afraid. That said, Sarah Zettel does a way better job than Gwen Rowley, much as it pains me to say. And that's because I do understand the need to write out the brother who kills Morgause, for this allows the author to replace that murder with a more woman-centric the resolution which is brought about by Laurel! Yay! Instead of dying over a fling, Morgause leaves Lot to fight Morgaine (her sister, the antagonist who hates Arthur) but she fails to return. Lot is so grieved and haunted without his beloved wifey that he goes mad, but he's still king until one of his sons takes over.... therefore the last book has a lot of political intrigue with Laurel and Agravaine working to not only care for ailing Lot but basically solve the mystery of Morgause's disappearance and defeat Morgaine so they can rule in peace. Magical power couple but make it introverted. Candy to me. I'll list the books here they're SO underrated.

Oh Lionel, 100%. Actually aside from Galahad, he's the only one I've drawn! I just like a character who goes berserk and commits murder sometimes. Also interesting he seems to never have a lady. Which could mean nothing. His whole weird enchanted birthmark thing in the Vulgate is trippy. Love that for him.

I cant believe ive progressed from "im gonna buy this slightly updated rerelease of a game i already own because science grandpa" to "im gonna reenter the kingdom hearts fandom and catch up on all the games i missed because science grandpa" to "im gonna get into an entirely new fandom literally just for science grandpa i mean dad"

Its probably best i start with the first game in the series tho, rite? Theyre all in continuity with the same protag and stuff unlike pokemon, apparantly. But still i worry that it wont be able to hold my interest in the first game cos apparantly THE FABLED SADDAD is only a late game boss with barely one single scene compared to his more fleshed out appearances in the sequels. I can only hope that everything else lives up to the power of he cuteness and every other yokai is equally monstery huggables! And im totally unspoiled for LITERALLY EVERYTHING IN THE GAME EXCEPT FOR MADDIMAN so lol for all i know it could be exactly my ultra fave and i just never knew it! I can at least give credit to the wiki makers for having it be easier to learn about one sad dad's plot without spoiling the rest of the game for yourself, thats better than pokemon and kh!

Oh but the one thing i do know is that everyone in the fandom is universally sad that they removed the female character option in the third game. Apparantly its cos now you have a second scenario with a new female character but it sucks that this means they canonized the male character as the "real" one for the first two games. Really sucks cos he's also the canon protagonist in the anime too and already gets 100% of the screentime in all promotional materials so i didnt even friggin know there was a girl option until years after i first heard of the game! JUSTICE FOR KATIE YO!!! Her design is infinately better than the ultra generic one for the dude. Like if their excuse for removibg her is "but theres a different female character who's nate's new friend and they both exist simultaneously" like why not have it so that if you play as katie you get a male version of that same character? Or if the excuse is to save cartridge space then literally just replace the new girl with "katie moves to america and has this separate adventure". Or even mix both and have it so that you can pick which protagonist is the one that moves and which stays? And have a prologue segmebt where the one who wasnt already the hero comes along and somehow something gets a yokai watch too and then new scenario, the end. Cos what ive heard is that both nate and katie are characters anyway, even if you dont pick them? The leftover one becomes your non yokai powered friend/love interest. Or is that just in the anime? But like if thats how katie is left canonically in the final game in the trilogy REGARDLESS OF YOUR GODDAMN CHOICES then yo it could be cool if the love interest got powers and joined you on a super double adventure! Thatd actually get me invested in your love plot! You could have loads of sweetness of them being long distance pals and maybe getting closer to confessing now theyre spending time apart. Cos a friend moving away is always super stressful and keeping in touch makes you worried theyre gonna forget you and all. Maybe have Katie finding her own yokai watch and entourage of spooky monsters while she's off in her new home and then nate is half AAAAA THIS IS SO COOL I CAN FINALLY TELL YOU MY SECRET and half OH GOD SHES GOT NEW BETTER FRIENDS SHES GONNA FORGET ABOUT ME. And katie maybe is worried that nate doesnt trust her as much as she thought he did, if he kept the yokai secret from her. And they could have awkwardness due to miscommunication and anxiety and RELATE THAT TO MADDIMAN'S FAMILY TROUBLES AND HAVE HIM BE A BIG ROLE IN THE PLOT RESOLVING IT BECAUSE MADDIMAN IS THE GODDAMN BEST! Also honestly the new girl character they replaced katie with DOES seem cool, im just mad that she replaced katie. So maybe keep her as an npc and she could be a cool new friend katie makes in america? Or yknow if they felt like ditching the "katie only exists for love interest uwu shes not the canon protagonist and never will be" crap then HEY MAYBE NEW GIRL COULD BE KATIE'S LOVE INTEREST?

ALSO maybe add a button to hug my yokai and have them follow behind you and also make custom rooms for them and decorate them and also give them snacks. Note: bunni has not played this game and does not know if any of these things have already happened and if they have then FUCK YEAH IM EVEN MORE EXCITED YO!!!!

Oh also i was checking up the version exclusives for the second game cos huh thats weird that only YW2 has two versions and both thw first and third game dont. I think i might go with bony spirits cos i had a good giggle at "herbiboy and carniboy" and i wanna throw my money at whoever made that pun. Like i kinda like how nonsensical it is in english where the pun doesnt exist? Its equally great either way! Why on earth does eating fried chicken make you a casanova! Well in japan its a pun but a dude holding a fried chicken bouquet is even funnier with absolutely no context. I honestly think his herbiboy form looks cuter tho and im sad that cos of his outfit people in the west will probably make jokes about him being an incel even tho his concept is meant to be "socially anxious dude who has no interest in dating women" rather than "those shallow fake shy dudes who whine about women not letting them smash". Since he turns into Carniboy by fusing with another male yokai i'd rather interpret it as "he was gay all along and only becomes a confident casanova when he embraces his true self". Also yo did u know theres a fuckin crank-a-kai?? Aka a gachapon machine of the damned?? Created by a punny gas(c)hadoro yokai whose giant towering skeletal scaryness is all wasted on being addicted to gacha games?? I love this. I especially love it cos gacha machines were the original inspiration for pokeballs so its like a fun callback to the franchise's bigger brother! But im also glad that the gacha thing is just one of many different minigames to catch yokai, cos i really dont like games thatre 100% random chance with no choices at all. THO STILL WHERE IS MY CHOICE TO HUG MADDIMAN....

The original story is a seven part epic by Hans Christian Andersen (also of Little Mermaid, Ugly Duckling, Emperor's New Clothes, Little Match Girl, and so many more), and his longest and one of his most highly acclaimed stories, with many major female characters (why replace the Finn Woman with a male troll?). Half of CS Lewis's The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is lifted from Snow Queen. There are six different theatrical film adaptations of the original story (both animated and live action), 12 TV adaptations, and operas, musicals, plays, ballets, and many other adaptions of the original story, in addition to alterations like Frozen and Narnia. Even Sailor Moon adapted it. The Frozen Heart in Snow Queen isn't about literally freezing, it's about becoming unempathetic, cruel, and uncaring about the people who care for you (The actual frozen heart in Frozen you are told to beware in the overture is Hans, but the movie isn't super clear about it - I'm betting Beware The Frozen Heart is a remnant of original Snow Queen development). That's the point of Kai being uncaring toward Gerta until her tears melt the ice in his heart. Its a pretty good metaphor for supporting people with mental health issues, who often lash out at their loved ones.

It's obviously not that poor/convoluted a story if it's been adapted almost as frequently as Cendrillion/Cinderella.

There's this undercurrent that classic tales are outdated (see also: alterations to Rapunzel and Princess and the Frog, Emperor's New Clothes Groove, etc), and thus they only take inspiration and do their own thing, profiting of the work of Hans Christian Andersen and others like him while pushing the original story out of public consciousness. It's kind of sad. Disney's Little Mermaid (again, also a HCA work) is also an adaption (in that the sea witch tries to steal the prince, the mermaid marries the prince instead of dissolving into sea foam, and she doesn't feel like she's walking on knives in her human form, and there's no religious element), but the core story remains the same, unlike the more recent fairy tale adaptations.

I'm not expecting Disney to take on Perrault's Donkeyskin (Robin McKinley's Deerskin is a wonderful adult adaptation, though), but asking for a more faithful rendition of a childhood story or being sad it never happened isn't criminal.

I'm just hoping Disney never touches The Six Swans/The Wild Swans (Aarne-Thompson 451). It's close to my heart as a story of sibling love and I cringe how it would get altered.

And I will say that while I love Glen Keane, that Disney decided to make every single female protag styled a la Glen Keane is getting boring. Seeing how angular Alva in Klaus was (as well as Klaus being 2D animated with 3D lighting effects) was incredibly refreshing and Margu (Shout out to Sergio Pablos for actively including Sami people and their language instead of Disney's half-hearted effort in Frozen) is too adorable for words. We're all missing the strong stylization of the Disney Renaissance and golden years (remember how Art Noveau Sleeping Beauty was, or the Greek elements and sharp angles in Hercules?) as compared to modern films. Hopefully Klaus reinvigorates 2D animation to a re-renaissance.
