The problem. The FUCKING problem with renovations. Is that they always start off small, you know? I once tried to replace the fan in my bathroom and ended by ripping the entire bathroom down to bare studs and replacing literally everything in it.
Take my washing machine, for instance. I want to move it twenty feet over to create a little laundry area in the basement. I'll have to reroute some plumbing, nothing too onerous. Except.
The concrete floor in the new area is a disaster. Last guy painted it with the wrong paint, it's scratched and marred and stained, it has to go. No problem! You can rent concrete grinders from Home Depot, grinding and repainting should take less than a week if I'm being lazy about it. Except . . .
Now that everything is moved out of the way for the grinding, I'm thinking about the lally pole that supports the main beam of the house. It's right in front of the basement door and makes it really hard to move things in and out of the basement. If I could move it over just three feet that problem would be solved. But even if a structural engineer signs off on that, I'll have to cut up the floor to remove it, which of course will delay the grinding and painting. No problem! I can spend that time painting the ceiling (it's too low to put in a drop ceiling, but if you paint the ceiling and everything in it one color it has a great effect). Except . . .
If I'm going to paint the ceiling I need to pull down all the gross, mouse-infested insulation from the rim joists and replace it with foam board insulation, which will also hopefully help with the severe pillbug infestation we have down there.
Except, as I'm up there pulling down the insulation, I can't help but notice how awful the romex wiring is. Just wires absolutely everywhere, they look like shit in a way that a coat of paint won't hide. Not to mention that my electrical panel is overflowing with romex. Surely, surely it would be easier and neater to just put up a few runs of nice clean conduit, and re-wire that half of the house while I'm at it so the breakers in the kitchen quit tripping.
And that's how moving a washing machine twenty feet ends up taking three years and thousands of dollars.

State of Grace
Chapter XIV
Tumblr media
Excerpt:
Shoupe moved down the hall to his office as Plumb picked up the phone. Taking a seat behind his desk, Shoupe logged back into his computer and quickly pulled up the GPS website they used to track all of the station issued vehicles and equipment. He flipped through a laminated binder to get the cruiser’s plate before entering the letters and numbers into the search bar. Shoupe was hoping for confirmation that the cruiser was at the Chateau or even patrolling around, but instead he found the car parked outside an apartment complex.
Sighing, he reached for the phone and dialed a number of one of the officers he dispatched after reviewing the security footage, the phone ringing twice, “hey—it’s Shoupe. Look, I need you to reroute to 5912 Lynwood…yeah, the apartment complex, apartment number…twelve thirty-three. See if you see the cruiser. Thanks.”
Shouple tossed the phone back into its cradle, moving to press his hand to his forehead when a knock sounded on his door. Straightening up, he watched Plumb poke her head in, “no answer—do you want me to keep trying?”
“No,” Shoupe shook his head, “no—let’s just let it be for now.”

I get the want to complain, but I will never understand people who make complaints to low level employees
Like sir, your local McDonald's employee in a mall food court has no say in the layout of the parking lot. I don't have any imput in how people get rerouted around construction.
I legitimately just had a man bitch at me and ask me to do something about the building I work in. If the building were an apartment complex, the city would be the landlord, and my employer would be on the lease.
I am the equivalent of a neglected step child and this man just asked me to fix the plumbing issue for the whole complex. Low level service workers have no say in absolutely anything. Why is that so hard to understand?

There are some enormous bird poops on my deck. Bad enough that I’m nauseated after seeing them, which is atypical for me.
I wish the back hose spigot worked.
I keep thinking I need to just be brave and start cutting into drywall until I find the shut off valve in the wall but, knowing me, I would manage to find it but then never repair the damage it took to do so.
Also, if the plumber is right (which I say “if” not because I don’t trust the plumber’s knowledge and experience but because I don’t trust McMansion builders to do things the right way), then the shut off valve should theoretically be in the basement right below the spigot.
Which..... that seems to be beyond where the wall is by at good foot so....
Somewhere behind the bathroom sink???
And I still don’t know whether it’s even plumbed at all anymore, they could have rerouted the water from the spigot to the sink, toilet, or shower. I have no idea.
Whole basement needs torn out and redone. I can’t do it myself. That Guy doesn’t want to pay thousands of dollars to have a crew do it for us. So I have no backyard water.

!!!!!! 🥰🥰🥰 I think my cat Daisy finally doesn’t have fleas!!! It’s been so long, oh my god.
I’m so happy I finally found a flea medicine that worked!!! (It was PetArmor, and I am suggesting it, which means it was really good, because I do not like to advertise for capitalism lol.)
She just got her third monthly dose about a week ago, so there’s potentially still some unhatched fleas, thanks to their awful 90 day life cycle, but it’s been days since I’ve seen one!
I was getting worried that the local strays were managing to get fleas into the house, but I really think the problem is solved! I might keep treating her for fleas forever though, because this neighborhood just has fleas, and because those goddamn goofy bugs dislodged some O-rings in the plumbing before I learned “do not rinse fleas down the sink, they will find their way back, even if you close the drain. They will forge their own path, right under the O-rings.”
I got out the Good Brush for daisy finally! It’s really hard to get the fur out of it, so I haven’t been using it while she has fleas (I’ve been using a flea brush, so I can grab the fleas and dispose of them as I find them). She really likes the big brush! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 I kinda just held it while she walked back and forth and brushed herself from cheek to tail, over and over, before it was too much sensory and she decided to bite bite kill the brush :3 I always let her attack the brush when she’s had enough. It is a very acceptable alternative to biting me lol.
I’m so happy!! Meow meow meow meow!!!! Kitty is better!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 I fixed it!!!! I finally found a way to fix it!!! I’m so happy for her!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I have learned some valuable data regarding pests and the food web and the magnificent capacity of fleas to reroute nutrition from the top of the food chain to the bottom of the food chain!! I don’t want to learn any more through this experience, the experience is over, I’ll keep brushing her for fleas and using flea meds forever if I have to, as long as she doesn’t become host to a very large flea population again!!

hi hello tonight we're thinking abt astoria & magic!
her magic is almost always water-based. nearly everything she can do is largely reliant upon finding and manipulating water in something.
healing hurts! the tips of her index finger, middle finger, and thumb on both hands are all numb due to accidents and errors when she was first learning how to heal with her magic.
because she can regulate her own body temperature fairly easily, often without really thinking about it, she's able to wear pretty much whatever she wants without being subject to the whims of the weather. the flip side is that she's very cold when she sleeps. she clings in her sleep in all verses but it's worst when she has magic.
when she's using magic, her pupils dilate, and she loses a lot of color in her face. this isn't always immediately visible, because she's fairly pale anyway, and she's usually wearing lipstick.
using her magic for too long or for spells that are too intense will leave her hands shaky and she'll be pale, and she'll almost definitely have a nasty headache. when it's particularly bad, she cries, often without realizing it, and the tears are tinged with blood.
"ani why does she have haemolacria" look it has about as much scientific basis as magical nosebleeds but i think crying blood looks cooler so that's what i'm doing.
when she's using her magic regularly, she needs to eat a lot more than usual, and she needs a lot of protein. she also needs to hydrate.
her reliance on water for her magic means she's fucking useless with fire. she can't light a flame magically. she can't even light a match. she only manages to keep a lighter lit if she's deliberately rerouting magic from her hands. when her cigarette burns too low it fizzles out before it's finished. if she's left to tend a fire alone, she will accidentally kill the flame.
it's rare that astoria experiences emotions that are really completely out of her control, but when she does, her magic goes haywire. she has rib fractures from when she was under her godparents' care, and which she healed with magic, and her magic will re-break those ribs and then heal them again, all without her intending to do so. she'll accidentally influence the temperature and pressure of the water around her, be it a natural body or indoor plumbing.
she can control someone's body with a lot of focus and energy, but she can't control their mind.

Detailed Information about Steel Fittings
Pipe fittings involve rerouting the water supply via tees, elbows, and other pipe components. Reducing tees, reducers, and similar pipe fittings are used to modify pipe sizes. In addition to the countless variations of coupling, there are
ASME B16.9 bend
Schedule 40 ASME B16.9 bend Producer Steel Tubing Curves It is usual to have the pipe's diameter, wall thickness, and pressure contained within its program. The ASME B16.9 standard, for instance, applies to pipe and fitting diameters between 1/2 inch and 48 inches.
Steel Hollow Section
Tubular sections made from steel that have had their interiors hollowed down are called hollow steel. In addition to "structural steel tubes" and "Hollow Structural Sections," these terms can also be used interchangeably (HSS). steel hollow section suppliers are often used as beams in welded frames and columns because of their many advantages in building and mechanical applications.
Pipe Clamps
Pipe clamps, also known as pipe clips or saddle clamps, are standard, straightforward fixtures used in various do-it-yourself and professional installation scenarios. pipe clamps suppliers are channel support systems frequently used in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical installations.
Forged Fittings
Pipe fittings constructed from forged carbon steel, stainless steel, or high nickel alloys are known as "forged steel fittings." That's why Forged Fittings suppliers in uaeproductsso helpful to have a method of making sturdy fittings that forges steel.
Branch Fittings
Pipes that cross each other can be joined with branch fittings. T-fittings and 45- and 60-degree wyes are the two most common types of pipe produced by Branch Fittings suppliers. Considering the necessary sweep when choosing a branch suited for a specific sector is essential.
Heat Exchanger Tubes
One common type of tube produced by Heat exchanger tubes suppliers in UAE is the shell-and-tube type. It is the standard heat exchanger used in oil refineries and other large-scale chemical processes because it can withstand greater pressure.
Steel Angle
In most cases, hot-rolled carbon steel or high-strength low-alloy steel is used to create steel angle, also known as angle iron or Steel Angle supplier’sbar. It has an L-shaped section with two legs that can be the same length or different lengths, and the angle would be 90 degrees.
Sanitary Fittings
Cleanable tubing connections, known as Sanitary Fittings, are fitted in process piping systems to provide a germ-free environment. Sanitary Fittings suppliers in UAE like regular fittings, are used to regulate the flow of fluid by connecting different sections of piping systems.
Welding Electrode
Electrical arc welding requires electrodes and lengths of wire linked to a welding machine. A high amount of heat is generated by the arc created when current flows through this wire to melt and fuse metal for welding electrode suppliers in uae.
Fasteners
A mechanical tool or element, a Fasteners suppliers in UAE, firmly binds multiple items together. The pins can take apart or reassemble the parts without any problems. But they can also serve as fixed connections.
Conclusion
Tube fittings connect tubing segments to one another or to other tubes, pipes, hoses, or other components in various configurations, including in-line, offset, multi-port, and mounting. The straight components of a system are joined together by fittings, which are couplings and joints made from specialised materials.

I forget if I posted about the results of the emergency plumbing thing: It was my water filter system, the plumber thinks a mouse chewed on things. I had no idea I even had mice in this house. Things have been rerouted/fixed temporarily and were done in short order so HOPEFULLY the bill wasn’t too frightful. Monday I will be calling to make an appt for a free estimate session to see how much it will cost to fix/install a new filter setup and so on.
An AMAZING friend has ordered me a filtered water bottle bc I apparently no longer have my old filter pitcher from when I was living in the hotel, bc we have no idea how long it will be before a scheduled repair/replacement can happen and I cannot tolerate unfiltered water due to mineral taste issues. So I won’t be having to buy gallon jugs of water to get by and stay hydrated until the fix can happen.
I am, meanwhile, trying VERY HARD to stay hydrated with a glass of unfiltered water but it just is going to have to all be tea and soda and juice until I get the filter bottle because UUUUGGGGHHHHHH. The weird aftertaste/feeling the unfiltered water leaves in my mouth is driving me absolutely up the wall and turning my stomach.

What To Look After Slab Leak Repair in San Diego
San Diego is a city in California, to the southeast of Los Angeles which has currently been facing the problem of Slab Leak Repair in San Diego. It is known for its surf beaches and experiences a footfall of thousands of tourists all throughout the year. It also hosts several lush green spots in the form of fields, gardens, and sprawling centers for tourists to visit along with lakes and water bodies. However, for the people of San Diego, slab leaks are becoming a major issue of concern. Slab Leak is a problem that arises in situations where the soil of the land is unstable. Houses are built on slabs made of concrete since there is a risk of basements cracking or breaking due to the shifting of soil underneath. Since there is a flow of water below the houses, the soil upon which the house is built gets eroded over time. Due to its erosion, the soil keeps shifting, or rather reducing from underneath the construction which is also called as instability of the soil.
Tumblr media
How can ineffective plumbing contribute to slab leaks?
Plumbing lines usually run beneath the slabs, where sometimes disaster may ensue. Sometimes, the plumbing pipes or lines may break due to poor quality material which gets corroded quite easily or they may crack from the pressure of construction over which they are built. When plumbing pipes burst or crack, it does not take long for slabs to show signs of leakage. Slab leak is not an uncommon problem these days as most houses experience slab leakage due to which there is inflow of water in the house. Depending on the amount of this water coming in, there are a lot of potential damages that can be done to a house. Appliances, furniture and flooring may also have to be completely replaced and consequently a quick assessment of slab leak and Slab Leak Repair in San Diego is essential in order to pursue the most cost effective course with least damages.
How can one detect a slab leak from the naked eye?
A slow slab leak manages to fill the ground beneath a house with more and more water which takes the form of a slow and quiet process and comes into sight only when the damages are done. They create even more soil expansion that ultimately can lead to substantial damage. The pressure that is created in the upward direction can eventually make the slab crack and burst.. Below are certain signs which may help you recognize that slab leakage repair is required.
Higher water bills without increased personal usage
Foundation develops a crack
Discolored or damp floor coverings
Warm or damp places on floors
Bad smell from floors or walls
Uneven growth in lawn or foundation plants
Methods of Slab Leak Repair in San Diego.
Two most famous methods of remedy to fixing a slab leak are given below which can prove to be great references for people who are looking for slab leak specialist. Pipe Rerouting/Repiping sometimes makes sense to avoid the lengthy process of digging, which takes up quite a chunk of time in our schedules and resort to rerouting the plumbing system above the ground instead. In cases where it is observed that the plumbing lines of a house cannot be reached without destruction of the slab, it is considered best to repipe the whole house. It is the job of the slab leak specialist to know where and how the new pipes can be installed, such as in walls, through the attic, closets, and other structures that may conceal and protect it. Another method which one may resort to is tunneling beneath the slab which apparently offers a number of benefits for homeowners like staying inside the house while the repairing or repiping work is still underway in the house, the inconvenience caused to the residents is minimal since it takes place outside the house and is generally inexpensive. Most homeowners prefer this kind of solution because of the aforementioned advantages this method entails.
To figure your way around Slab Leak Repair in San Diego one has to make serious decisions about the age, materials, and condition of a home’s plumbing system. These factors will prove to be helpful in indicating whether there is requirement of slab leakage repair or the replacement of an entire section of the plumbing system. Under extreme circumstances, there is also a need for complete re-arrangement or re-piping it may further leads to water damage also of the entire plumbing system of a house if the damages are done to a great degree
