Good boy Giggle has been in my life for a year and my love for him has no limits. He is full of sass and disapproval for me whenever I am not actively feeding him, purposely tries to ruin my photos of him by refusing to pose unless I bribe him with snacks, and throws his food bowl at me when it is empty. He also has a very poofy bum and round belly, has little ears that flap when he chews (see last video), and occasionally falls asleep on my lap. So my important journey earlier today was to collect the newest addition to the #Porkette herd! This little lady is named Bella and I have adopted her from a friend of a friend who due to personal issues could no longer keep her. Bella is about 2 years old and is incredibly friendly when handled. #Repost from my great friends at @yesahcansanctuary @download.ins --- 🚨 New Rescue 🚨 Meet Renata. This poor baby was found locally in a cemetery last week. The sheriff’s office dropped her off at @animalarkofarcadia and she appeared to be close to death. Animal Ark and one of the state veterinarians have been treating her due to her initial condition. Today, we were given the green light by the state to take her into our care. Renata is currently being seen by the specialist team at @bluepearlvet in Sarasota to see if a clear diagnosis can be made. Currently, we are treating her with a variety of medications. This little lady has a long road to recovery, but we are cautiously optimistic. Renata is eating well and has relatively normal stool, which is a really good sign! 🙏 I chose the name Renata because it means “born again”. Renata was left for dead in a cemetery, but was saved and treated by a handful of caring people. We hope this is just the beginning of her story. I know this is a challenging time for everyone, but if you are able to donate to Renata’s medical care, it would mean so much! No amount is too small. #Repost @steampunkfarms (with @report.for.insta) ... I've tried to avoid this. I know everyone is scared: health, loved ones, employment and income, and the overall frenzy. So many sanctuaries I've seen are asking for help at the same time, and I didn't want to be one of them. But, it's unavoidable. We tried to not panic, but with everything shutting down, our food and hay suppliers aren't able to guarantee they'll be able to keep up with our demand week to week. We feed 350 lbs of grain and over 100 lbs of hay every day, as well as chicken food, and specialty horse and cow food. Stocking up for a month would cost $4000 that we don't have at one time. Even getting 2 weeks of basic necessities for the animals will be difficult. We typically buy by the week, and that requires a large amount out of our (Erick's, really) own pockets. As an independent contractor, there are no guaranteed unemployment benefits. . . We must strive to get a month of grain and hay on our property ASAP. Six months ago, Owen unexpectedly entered our lives. Owen was found on the side of busy road here in town after a couple stopped when they thought a puppy had been hit by a car. Owen was only hours, with his umbilical cord still attached. We believe Owen’s mother was trapped, gave birth to him while being transported, and he fell off of the trailer. The first 2 1/2 months was filled with nonstop visits to the vet, around the clock care, and very little sleep. Owen’s health conditions are chronic and we do not know how much time he has with us. What we do know is that he is one very special pig! Owen’s birthday wish is that everyone will leave pigs and other animals off of their plates today and every day. Will you help Owen’s wish come true??
