The Vintage Legacy Challenge By: Simsationelle

This legacy challenge is for people who love cozy,collective,arkacademia,cottagecore,gardening ,fishing Aesthetic. There are tonnes of challenges that exist but none that actually fit my vibe and aesthetic.This is why I decided to create a challenge that encourages me to play in ways I wouldn’t normally play. There are certain specifications for each generation that must be followed and rules to the challenge to keep it fun. This challenge requires you to think.. I don’t give you the entire story, You must create a story from the facts that I present . This way, every one that tries the challenge can tell their own story with a guideline but the player gets to create their own outcome.

You may start in any world you please but you starting funds will be 1,500. Cheats are allowed to get the very first house but the house must be within the 18k-120k simoleon range. After u have selected a house u must set your funds to 1500 simoleons. After this, no money cheats are allowed.

You are allowed cheats that help with the story line, example , if your sim dies unexpectedly by no fault of yours or to fix game breaking bugs, or to immerse storytelling (to turn your first sim into a witch if you choose the route of them not knowing) However you choose to play is totally up to you but it is recommended no cheating so that you can have th most fu while playing!

Gen 1 - The Quirky Introvert

Theme of dress: comfortably chic

Career:freelancer (any freelance)

-sim will be very shy, introverted and prefers penpals over physical friends

-collects postcards, fossils , gems and frogs.

-Sim must be a witch ( she/he can either know they are a witch or not know.. totally up to you how you tell the story. There is a reason behind why she is a witch.. you create that story)

-wears glasses

Loves the indoors, reading, and creating crafts via knitting or cross stitch

-must have the loner tait

Your sim must meet, date and marry the first penpal sh meets, male,female, alien vampire werewolf , doesn’t matter

-you can either adopt or have 1 child only.. That child becomes the gen 2 heir

Prompts to help with backstory: it was forbidden to be a witch in her mothers time. She was abandoned at the doorstep of an orphanage before the witch trials began.

I’m also an enthusiast of board games. Some recent favorites: Azul, Ascension (all the Ascension!), Gloom, Riftforce, Ticket to Ride, Lanterns, Qwirkle, Horrified, Forbidden Island. When I married my husband, I really leveled up in the games department. You should see our game hoard!

In terms of music, I have a teenager, and I let them choose what we listen to a lot of the time. Thanks to the kiddo, I’ve been getting into Will Wood (Dr. Sunshine is Dead). His music is sort of punk-klezmer. I’ve also been enjoying Penelope Scott (Lotta True Crime), and The Stupendium (The Fine Print). I’ve been revisiting Dolly Parton here lately, too. She’s still amazing. We could all do well by asking ourselves What Would Dolly do?

As for reading, I help run the classics book club at my library, so I read one classic novel a month. Recent choices were David Copperfield, Anna Karenina, and Sense and Sensibility. Otherwise, I try to keep up with some new releases, both on the indie and the mainstream front. Recent great reads: The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish, The Beautiful Ones by Sylvia Moreno Garcia, Akata Woman by Nnedi Okorafor, The Princess and the Peonies by Lucy Blue, and The Half Life of Ruby Fielding by Lydia Kang. ____________________ Is there anything you'd like to share with our social media followers that isn't included above? - I’m a nature enthusiast. How do you recommend VA to your customers?

oh my god i love this ask, i have multiple approaches & just a warning this is gonna be a long response bc i love talking about my job and thinking that i’m a great salesperson (when i’m actually really probably not)

so first of all i’m the store manager, and i’m going to be honest here and admit that i’ve convinced most of my team that it’s a key part of their job to recommend vampire academy. a few of them have called bullshit but play along, and a few of the younger team members fully believe it, so we make some sales from that 😅 not all of the team have read it (they don’t all read — we always keep a few people on staff because they’re good salespeople and can promo memberships, book of the month etc.) but they all trust that it’s a good series because i don’t shut up about it, and those on the team who have read it all liked it too, so everyone knows that it’s a safe bet for recs

selling it to parents who are buying for their kids is the easiest to be honest — “it’s about two best friends who would literally die for each other, repeatedly trying to save each other’s lives while managing and trying to overcome a power imbalance due to their social statuses. there’s a bit of romance, and yeah it’s a vampire book so there’s a bit of slaying and drinking blood, but it’s really about the friendships”. am i giving a fully accurate description? absolutely not but some parents treat their nearly-adult kids like babies so i play it safe. lately parents have also really been eating up the fact that it’s going to be turned into a tv show by the people who did vampire diaries — they’re always like “oh my kid loves that show! i know nothing about it but if it’s being adapted by the same people i’m sure they’ll love it!!” so that’s made my job easier

teens are harder, because they’re sometimes judgy and don’t want to listen to a twenty-three year old recommend something because apparently we’re old and boring 😅 this isn’t all teens though, some are cool and love books and are happy to take suggestions from the slightly-unhinged bookseller with winged eyeliner and mcr pins on their lanyard (thank you to these teens, you make my day 🙌). twilight has also been making a comeback lately (i think this is thanks to tik tok? idk but it’s been super popular in our store lately with younger teens), so chiming in with a “yeah twilight is great BUT you should read this series which is what everyone was actually into as a teen in the 00s/10s” seems to sell it because apparently everything i loved as a kid is now retro??? (sometimes these kids got me feeling like a grandma lmao but no complaints bc i love their enthusiasm)

as for people in their 20s/30s i just go hard with the enthusiasm and talk up all the parts of the series that they’d seem to be into (for example them: “oh i’m after something romantic” me: “OKAY LET ME TELL YOU ALL ABOUT ROMITRI”; them: “i’m just looking for something easy and maybe a bit trashy” me: “HERE’S SOME TEEN VAMPIRE ANGST”). the forbidden romance aspect is also a huuuuuge upsell for this age bracket, though everyone who comes back for book two is like “PLEASE TELL ME THERE’S MORE SPICE THIS TIME” so @ richelle mead if you ever re-release heads up we all want more smut. nostalgia also sometimes helps with this age bracket — lots of customers remember reading the first book or seeing it advertised or whatever so they usually give it a go just from that alone

sadly i have been unsuccessful at getting anyone in the 40+ age bracket to read it yet except for one customer who had actually read bloodlines already and didn’t realise that vampire academy existed 💀

also for bloodlines (and sometimes i try it with VA but to less success) the enemies-to-lovers thing makes it an easy sell with everyone, but i always try to get them to read VA first because i’m one of those people who have to read/watch things chronologically

if this is my regional manager you saw none of this and i promise i’m telling my team to sell the book of the month and not vampire academy 🤭👀

Decided to try and answer these using Gifs and Images of My characters (aka who or what reminds me of My character)

Doing this for My AHS Witch Helena. Michael Langdon’s Soulmate and Dandy Mott’s Ex.

A: Aptitude 1. what are your oc’s natural abilities, things they’ve been doing since young?  Her witchy abilities have always been apart of Helena,she was also good at group activities where she could be in charge. 

2. what activities have they participated in? is ritual magic an activity? lol I’d say writing in her book of shadows and creating new spells is her favorite solo activity. She only participated in group activities in school and at the orphanage.

3. what abilities do they have? Shadow work,Blood Magic,Sex Magic. Dark Magic in general.

4. what things are they bad at? I don’t think Helena would admit to being bad at anything. But inside she is bad at letting go of her past and letting herself be as powerful as she truly is. Michael and Lucifer are helping her with that. 

5. what is their most impressive talent? Coming back from the dead multiple times lol Astral Projection. (Although she isn’t good at controlling the latter) Allowing the living to see and touch her in spirit form.

B: Basics 1. what is their hair color? It changes every reincarnation or rebirth. Auburn when she was born,more red after she died. Bleached it blond for awhile when she was in the coven,then back to her more natural color,then black when she was in Hell/came back.

2. what is their eye color?  

3. how tall are they? All My female characters are under 6′0″ (unless they’re supernatural)

4. how old are they? 25 (when she died) 

5. how much do they weigh?

C: Comfort 1. how do they sit in a chair?

2. in what position do they sleep? like the dead. If she does sleep.

3. what is their ideal comfort day? Being with Michael.  Helena rarely likes being alone as she was alone for far too long as a Ghost. But when she does need her down time she prefers practicing her Spells in The Woods alone at night or in her Darkened room with a glass of Wine while reading an Erotic or Historical Romance Series,or taking a blood bath.

4. what is their major comfort food? Wine and Steak now that she can eat again.

5. who is the best at comforting them when down? Michael and Ms Mead. Constance used to be.

D: Decoration 1. how would they decorate a house if they had one under their name?  Somewhere Regal like a Mansion,A Castle or a Sanctuary.

2. how would they decorate their child’s room? Very unconventional think of The Addams Family or Munsters.

3. how do they decorate their own?  Anything Retro or Vintage (like from The 1920′s to 80′s) Classical with a Dark Ambiance.

4. what type of clothes and accessories do they wear? 

5. do they like makeup/nail/beauty trends? She likes to look good yes.

E: External Personality 1. does the way they do things portray their internal personality? I suppose she shows of her Leadership personality more in public though.

F: Fun 1. what do they do for fun? Stay at home watching TV.  After discovering TV again Helena recently fell in love with The Craft,Interview With a Vampire, (because Lestat reminds her of Michael),Dusk Till Dawn and AMC’s Freakshow (it reminds her of simpler times) She also has a weakness for Slasher Films. She also likes writing,reading and when she was with Dandy going to Disney World. 

2. what is their ideal party? When she has to go to a party it usually involves death. But she loves a good murder mystery.

3. who would they have the most fun with? Michael,Violet and Tate.

4. can they have fun while conforming to rules? lol Nope

5. do they go out a lot? Not really

4. do they have a favorite summer activity? Spending it with Michael.  Just alone in there room,the two of them,or taking a stroll talking about anything & everything,including The end of the world. Michael is very curious. Followed by Ritualistic Sex that evening.

I hope anime counts? Both anime I list are available for free screening on crunchyroll, if anyone’s interested.

In no particular order, then.

1. BOFURI: I don’t like getting hurt, so I’ll max out my defense

This is just so much fun. Lots of jokes (including puns and sight gags), and lead character Maple constantly wandering around the game, accidentally doing things that make the devs tear out their hair in frustration. Equal parts heartwarming, funny and awesome. Based on a simple but enchanting premise: playing video games is fun! And it’s even more fun with friends!

2. Full Metal Panic!

Still my fave anime of all time. If I’m in the mood for serious action and drama I watch season 1, second raid, or invisible victory. If I’m in the mood to fall out of my chair laughing, I’ll watch Fumoffu? And now the original books are finally ALL being published in english hopefully they’ll release the short story collections as well, which is where the comedy’s concentrated.

3. Leverage

Now becoming relevant again with the new global financial crisis due to the plague... so relevant they’re doing a revival. I’m full of hope for it as it not only has the original show runners returning, but 90% of the original cast (even if Aldiss Hodge is only recurring because of his other job). I have a not-so-secret love for heist movies, and this has a new one every week. A whole crew of Robin Hoods, taking down rich people who have escaped justice, getting payback and some cash for the people they screwed over (plus a healthy commission for themselves). Plus everyone they go after is so richly deserving of getting taken down. If you manage to get it with the commentary, I highly recommend it, it’s stuffed full of interesting behind the scenes tales, and even some very scary ones on how they came up with the Ripped From The Headlines 

4. Forever Knight

Ah, the tv show I set the VCR for every week, because it only played at 4am when originally broadcast. Thanks to my viewing this show, at one point I could rattle off the names, if not the actual phone numbers, of six phone sex hotlines, four ‘introductions for single’ hotlines, and three fortune teller hotlines (one psychic, two tarot), due to how frequently they showed up in the commercials. Anyway, take a wonderfully angsty vampire with several centuries of been there shaped history who happens to work as a police detective, his wacky/oddly wholesome partner (depending on the season) his ex and still found family, his equally found family vampire father who happens to be unabashedly evil and immensely charismatic (honestly, Lacroix was what early Damon Salvatore wanted to be when he grew up), the lovely and brainy best friend who he had buckets of Unresolved Sexual Tension with... during it’s short run, FK covered almost every genre in tv - crime, horror, high fantasy, low sci fi (if only once or twice), romance, history, several different types of ethical dilemma and family dramas. I think the only ones they didn’t hit were outright comedy (though there were plenty of funny moments and lines) high concept scifi ala Trek and the musical episode.

5. Miss Fisher’s murder mysteries / Poirot

Cheating here, yes - but basically I love both these shows equally, and for pretty much the same reasons. They’re both mysteries, in which the detective wins and everything is solved, always reassuring. The mystery genre is one of my absolute faves, both watching and reading.  They’re both period pieces, meaning gorgeous retro sets and costumes. MFMM has the edge in costumes -  they’re so fabulous three travelling exhibitions have come out of the show - and a wonderful UST filled partnership with Phryne and Jack. AND it’s 100% true blue Australian! However, Poirot has David Suchet in one of the greatest performances in audio-visual history; not just in talent but in dedication - it took him twenty four years, but he filmed every single appearance of Hercule Poirot as written by Dame Christie. Speaking of, yes, Agatha Christie, my favourite authour of possibly all time.

Actually, you know what? I’m going to cheat some more.

6. The Whedonverse - Buffy, Angel, and Firefly

I know that Joss might be controversial these days - though I have certain opinions on that, (ie at least 90% of this seems to be people who believe he’s not ‘woke’ enough to be deserving of success anymore) let’s leave it for another argument. I believe time will nonetheless prove him to be one of the greatest storytellers in tv history.  His rich, fully rounded characters, (that were allowed to be flawed, as well as awesome!) and intricate storylines that allowed a whole ensemble cast to grow and change and brought up all sorts of issues in ways that not only resonated but made you think.

7. Farscape

The show that did Muppets in Space before anyone even thought of The Mandolorian. The puppets and makeup still hold up strong, even compared to anything on Disney+ and Star Wars. Farscape made me laugh, sigh, bite my nails, anguish in sympathy, and when a certain writer/director combination showed up I sought out my old teddy bear in advance because I knew I’d fucking need it. Funny note: even though it was filmed in Sydney, I had to import the first two seasons on video tape from fucking UK!!!  It was worth it. The DVDs on the other hand were much easier.

8. Highlander: the series

Yes, I know pretty much every movie except the first one sucked - except the second, which outright Does Not Exist. But the concept really hit it’s stride as a tv show. Which has all the been there shaped history moments of Forever Knight, and in some places has outfits as fabulous as MFMM. Plus, my other not-so-secret-love... sword fights! Honestly, every single season had at least two or three sword fights that Inigo Montoya would have been proud to fight.

9. My Babysitter is a Vampire

A beautifully sweet lead couple, one of the most endearing nerd crews around, a love of the ridiculous, (at least three times, cosplay turned out to be the answer!) and running gag about an awesome Twilight parody.

10. Star Trek: Lower Decks

Just as a note, while I never got around to watching TOS for some reason, the first three sequels - TNG, DS9, and VOY - will always hold a special place in my tv watching heart. Which, oddly enough, might be why I love LD so much. Mel Brooks once said that you can only make a true parody of something you really love. The creators of LD must adore Star Trek. Not just rampantly funny but stuffed to bursting with mythology gags and shout outs.

Risotto’s not one for out and out sexy costumes. What really gets him going is someone who knows what they’re doing; he’s a goth at heart, so if you try something like a classic Morticia or an Elvira his throat is bobbing when he swallows as he tries to avert his gaze. Really, he wants his big hands resting on you where your dress is clinging to your hips--. Example here. Of course, if you’re more fond of your legs but still want Risotto to be looking at you, he’s a sucker for something cute as well as something sexy - especially if it appeals to his darker side. Try this. 

Formaggio likes a fun costume! Oh, he loves the sexy, don’t get him wrong - but he loves those silly costumes that are sexy versions of something quirky. A sexy sandwich. A sexy hot dog seller. Formaggio likes his crush to have a sense of humour, and to be able to stare at their body at the same time. Example here. 

Illuso’s a fan of something spooky. He likes sexy too, but he doesn’t want things to be too sexy. He’s a fan of those Victorian gown costumes cut low in the chest (even moreso if you’re wearing a corset underneath). Chances are, he’s peeking on you getting undressed . . . so anything with a lot of layers that he gets to watch you peel off one by one is good in his books. Example here. 

Prosciutto likes something classic. Though he’s not going to be disappointed by a sexy costume, he much prefers the thrill of the chase and the romance of what might be. Think about him as enjoying those retro costumes; a neat little diner waitress with a frilly apron tied around her waist and a dress cut just a little too deeply to be decent. An air hostess with her skirt just short enough to show the top of her stockings and the dark garters keeping them up. He won’t be able to keep his eyes off her. Try something like this, or even this.

Pesci’s easy to please. He gets nervous if you’re wearing anything too sexy! He already has a hard enough time talking to you without having your chest so close to his line of sight! He likes classic costumes that are leaning more towards ‘pretty’ than ‘sexy’, and he doesn’t like a lot of blood - try a princess costume, or an angel costume, if you really want Pesci to blush at you and spend the night working up the courage to confess. Example here - or, if you really want to be spooky, try something cutesy like this instead.

Melone likes his crush to go all out. He’s a big fan of those traditional sexy costumes; a Playboy bunny in stockings and a cute little tail. A French maid. A vinyl dress and fangs. It’s not hard to get Melone going, of course, but those kind of things get him going even quicker than anything else. The idea of a sexy nurse really gets him going. Try this, or this. 

Ghiaccio’s hard to get right. He gets easily angered by little things that are wrong in a costume - a breastplate in armour that wouldn’t be practical, something that’s out of period when you’re in a historical costume. The best way to distract him is to do something simple. If you’re wearing a sexy cat costume . . . well, he won’t be able to voice his disdain, because he’ll have gone too red and tongue tied. How about this? Or, if you’re not quite brave enough for that, something like this.

Sorbet and Gelato are difficult to read. They like seeing the vulnerabilities of someone, so they can exploit them - those kind of “damsels in distress” costumes really get them. If you’re a Gothic heroine in a flowing white nightgown stained with blood, too much of your chest on show, candelabra clutched in your hand . . . oh, yeah, they’re both into that. Time your vampire victim costume with their matching vampire costumes, or their werewolf costumes with your Red Riding Hood costumes. They’ll have a hard time keeping their hands off you.

since today is apparently Lindy Day, here’s some Quick Factz about her house. first, some Overarching Lindyisms and Introductory Info.

lindy lives in a townhouse or something adjacent, like one of these. i really feel like its exterior is rusty-red or light brown.

she feels nervous living in big houses, so her #Pad is probably pretty small ; or at least feels smaller than it is. the living room and her bedroom are probably the biggest rooms in the entire house. it’s not cramped, obv, but i know parties and gatherings at her place probably feel Intimate as a result.

i’m sure you saw this coming, but her house is VERY ~Eclectically~ decorated. 

she seems to be very Into antiquing and collecting art and Interesting stuff like brighid and margot, but hers tends to skew towards the Luxurious or Exotique-- and very often both. the artworks of tamara de lempicka ( !!!!!! ), hilma af klint, milena pavlović-barili and louise bourgeois are all De Rigeur in lindy’s Art Collection. 

she’s also really into strange and / or antique advertisements, like these ones. this one every dc hipster is obsessed with is her favourite. 

and unlike brighid, who tends to like Functional Beautiful stuff she could potentially use if she needed to, or margot, who likes Cutesy stuff with 700 bows, lindy’s Antiques collection skews ‘superficial and decorative.’ she tends to like stuff without any Practical Purpose, whether from being outdated, super weird, or too delicate. 

basically the range for all her decor is either ‘Chic And / Or Retro’ or ‘auctioned at christie’s and the str8 people there were too chicken to bid on it’ with some in between.

this is also a given, but her house is focking FULL of books. especially her living room and ‘’’’home’’’’ ‘’’’office.’’’’ there are tons of books EVERYWHERE. 

most of them ancient texts For Obvious reasons, but also LOTS of poetry, probably a good bit of shakespeare and uh. anne rice Tittie Vampire Erotica or some shite. sorry.

i think she jus plain collects Esoteric Lesbian Erotica. like ancient, antique, rare, banned or otherwise One-of-a-Kind lesbian romance books.

the most Present Colours are warmer, autumnal jewel tones-- darker purples, carrot-y oranges, olive green, most browns, deep red, gold and bronze / copper.
