Good week of training with the boys. Here’s some staples that should be in every lifter’s repertoire... Vid 1: Seated bent forward cable rows - My fav exercise for really feeling your lats. Vid 2: High cable rear delt flys - I’ve been doing these since I started lifting. Flair the elbows, don’t go to far back, keep the tension. Vid 3: Dead press off chest - Better to use pins but I was too thick. Build strength off the chest (my weakness). Vid 4: Bamboo bar bench - Every 4th max effort upper day we deload, so we had fun. 250lbs was no joke. Vid 6: Speed Pulls with doubled reds, 60 seconds rest between sets. You go, next guy goes, repeat. Vid 7: Standing abs - Make sure to brace hard. Brace here, brace when you eat, brace when you shower, always be bracing. #ReverseHyper is another great #glute exercise and great for everyone from the beginner to the advanced lifter. The key with Reverse Hypers is to make sure you hold at the top. Do not rush through this move. 🚶‍♂ To do the Reverse Hyper, lie face down on a table, bench or box. You want your hips close to the edge. The more your hips are on the box or bench, the easier it will be to keep your #core tight and not let the move go into your back. The further off the bench your hips are, the more the move will require your abs to stay engaged to protect your low back. Hold on to something in front of you if you want. Keep your upper body relaxed. Squeeze your legs together and point your toes out a bit if you are having trouble activating your glutes. Lift your legs to basically parallel to the ground, keeping your legs straight. Do not hyperextend your back and lift way higher than parallel. You do not want to feel this in your low back. Hold for 2-5 seconds and then lower down. Reverse hypers with resistance bands are no joke. These are easy to do the wrong way. But if you want to work on your core, tighten the abs, stabilise you pelvis in a post pelvic tilt and hold it here. Now extend your legs. If U want the benefits for planche and back lever this is the sequence U need to develop the core control. Made the modification with "chain" for arm in 2000. Louie had one at original Westside that had a chain for the weight arm. In 2000, I went there for a few days and saw it. Chuck Vogelphol was the only one using it so I knew it must be better. I modified mine when I got home to be like Lou's. Never looked back. The instability of the chain forces the lifter to control it. This leads to more recruitment from lowerback muscles. Especially the QUADRATUS LUMBORUM!
