LINKS
Story Part 1: Ages of Faerie Story Part 2: Ardri’s Tale
ASK GUIDELINES AND CATEGORIES
KO-FI WHAT IS A FAIRY What is a Fairy? Well here’s a LINK to an explanation of the basics, its a little lengthy, but it covers the essentials.
Is this blog really run by the Fae? Sorry, no.
Are the Fae real? I don’t know. I don’t believe in them, but there are people who do believe and who claim to work with them. I think the world is filled with many wondrous things, so I like to keep an open mind.
If you’re not Fae, who are you? I’m just a really well researched writer with a rather vivid imagination. You can call me River if you want.
Are Dozmjir and Quoth real? No, but they’re a way for me to practice other writing personas. And they’re fun.
Pronouns? He/Him/Them/They is fine if you must use something.
Is your blog Safe For Work? Yes, mostly. There will be no sexually explicit material. Occasionally there will be rare nudity mentions (some Fae don’t do clothes). Some descriptions of graphic scenes may occur, such as violent battles or blood mentions, or even disturbing monsters. There might be romance. I will tag what I can think of.
Can you tag a trigger for me? Yes. Just send an Ask. I’ll try to remember to tag it in the future.
You said you were going to publish a book? Working on it. If there’s any news, I’ll let you know.
Do you accept artwork? Absolutely. I LOVE getting artwork based on my writing. It means I’m doing something right. I don’t care if you think your art isn’t good, I love it. I might actually cry.
Is there a story going on in your blog? Yes! It sort of evolved on its own. Part 1, which is the older fragmented writings, poems, and backstories can be found here at Ages of Faerie. Part 2, which is the tale of Ardri’s journey up till the current point, can be found here at Ardri’s Tale.
Do you accept Asks? Yes! I love getting Asks. They’re helpful in keeping the blog active. Here’s a link to the ASK GUIDELINES AND CATEGORIES
Do you have a Patreon? No. But I have a KO-FI.  If you like my work, consider leaving a small tip! The extra income helps me have time to write more.
Am I Fae? Probably not. But who knows? You could be. Send an Ask explaining why you think you might be. Then I’ll let you know ways you can check and what you could or should do about it.
Can I repost your writing? No. But you can reblog it all you like here on Tumblr, though. In fact, I’ll be very happy if you reblog it.
Did you read my comment (Ask, tags, reblog comment)? Yes. I read EVERYTHING people put. I love it when people comment. I might not always respond if it doesn’t seem to need a response, but I’ve read it.

Freedom Fighters - An Unceremonious Death
For the love of god let them die
Look, I like the Freedom Fighters. More the reboot than the preboot, they have less baggage, but still, I respect what they did. But if you’ve read my other dumb things you also know I think Red Dwarf USA had a real chance of working, so maybe I’m just insane.
Either way, this whole Rally For Sally business has been going around and disturbing the usual culprits from their dens and I feel I should say something.
“The American Canon“
This is a stupid sentence and yet thrown around as you like. There is no American canon, there is just “The Canon” and “Non-canon.” Believe it or not, the people who make the product get to decide what’s done with it and what is canon.
If you made something and then in France they made an entirely different story with concepts and themes you didn’t want to explore, you’d be hesitant about including or acknowledging it. Same with Sega of Japan.
But then why did Sega allow this to be made?
Well, I think this needs a tad bit of history behind it.
We’re going to the 90′s
Tumblr media
Denim was in, the future was here, everything in 2000′s would be chrome and the Y2k bug was on the horizon.
Ohno
But Sega of Japan had an issue. Their arcade machines were selling like nobody’s business but they wanted that sweet console piece of the pie, but had no winning mascot. Alex Kidd, unfortunately, wasn’t moving as many consoles as they had hoped, god knows not enough to rival Mario.
They needed something cool, something different, somethi- It’s Sonic. You know it is, I know it is, I ain’t dragging this on.
Tumblr media
It did well enough in Japan, but Sega was focusing on international markets with this game. It had a somewhat universal design, helped by the basis being Felix and Mickey Mouse which were popular around the world, with catchy songs based on both Japanese and American releases from the past.
It was going to be a hit.
Or... was it?
Did they need to do more?
Well, Sega doesn’t just have Sega of Japan. It had SOE and SOA as well. Europe and America respectively. Others too I’m sure but my memory’s off.
SoA and SoJ had a somewhat shaky relationship with each other, but then again, so did other companies back then. It was a new foray into public relations. Japan built the consoles that actually sold, America had to sell them, but there was a big gap between the countries, how things were interpreted, different values, and let’s not forget, American pride and greed.
AMERICA in the 90′s
SOJ needed this thing to sell big. Sonic was going to be a global success if they could help it. And let’s be honest, it was.
America had it’s own plans on what Sonic should be, and SOJ actually listened to some of them. Madeline Schroeder, product manager at the time for Sega in the US, actually went to Japan to say what she thought Sonic would be. As of this, they removed Madonna and Sonic’s tie-in with a band, as well as changing certain design traits in the US because “Sonic looked too Japanese.“
And then had the gall to call herself the “Mother Of Sonic”
Again, in a world where shitting on other people’s culture is a big no-no, and for good reason, how that managed to be fine is insane.
It’s a Japanese fucking product, Madeline.
Alongside this, as SOA hadn’t had much access to the Japanese backstories (although, the manuals should have been fine enough), when it came to marketing the games as an ongoing story (and ready in time for the cartoons they wanted to push) SOA made their own Sonic Bible, for use outside of non-Japanese territories.
This would have the seeds of what most people know, Freedom Fighters, Eggman once being good, Sonic being part of the good fight, etc.
[Astoundingly, when they made the cartoons and everything, Fleetway would be the one to actually stick closer to this than Archie/Satam/Underground/Aosth ever did so who’s talking about canon now huh]
Tumblr media
Japan didn’t really notice nor take heed. One could make a good case for their complete obliviousness to what SOA was doing. You can tell because absolutely nothing from the bible/comics/magazine ever appeared in a Japanese Sonic game. Spinball was Sega Technical Institute, an American Division. Not Sega of Japan.
On top of this, as I see a bunch of people who go “Sega is disrespecting the American canon”, interesting fact. In Europe and Japan, the manual for Sonic CD clearly states Amy Rose is in the game. Sega of America actually edited this to say Sally, despite not going through and changing the sprites. If that’s not disrespect towards the creators of the games I don’t know what is.
The Canon
The problem I find with this is that, let’s be honest, if we had to look at this from an objective viewpoint:
Japan released a game.
America sought to profit off it, but didn’t like it was very much Japanese, not American.
They changed the story to be more American themed, changed the art design to look more American drawn, and ignored the Japanese additions to the games by editing out the Japanese characters in the manuals.
Because they wanted to profit off a different culture’s work by changing it wholesale so it didn’t resemble the culture it came from.
Nothing about SatAm’s premise or creation says anything about the original material it came from, just heavily adapted without any input from it’s creators to resemble a more American product.
You know how Japan saw Sonic?
Tumblr media
This cute lad who acted more like a cartoon Felix the Cat type figure.
Now I get it, especially in the 90′s, everyone was localising. The markets weren’t as much the same, god knows they gave Ratchet attack eyebrows to be appealing etc.
But this was so anti-Japanese that the fact they were profiting at all from a Japanese product is insane.
Adventure
Ha
Back in Japan in the 90′s, they didn’t really have much of an idea what they were doing with the canon. They had plans but they seemed to be not as stable as they would have liked. The amount of games they were pumping out with different Eggman attacks and characters and if the GG games fit in with the MD games-
They needed something a bit more stable.
So when it was their time for their biggest game yet, they started to reign things in. In Japan. In Europe.
In America.
Sonic Adventure would be the basis for the stories for the next decade or so, with some revisions on what came before, what was mainline, what have you.
At this point, SOA’s cartoons had all died and the only thing remaining in the Sonic canon from that time was the Archie comic, still ongoing. But yet America still pulled this stuff off.
In the original script, Eggman is still Eggman. None of this “I AM DOCTOR ROBOTNIK, GENIUS OF THE WORLD” schtick.
No changing the manuals this time at least, so they’re getting better.
Over time, the only surviving things to come out of the canon, which Sega was nice enough to do considering, was
- Chilli-dogs - I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG - Robotnik being Maria’s surname
Didn’t you have something to say about the Freedom Fighters?
Why yes I do.
So, the Freedom Fighters for me, as much as I like them as , represent an American centrism. Not only was America not a Sega dominated market, for Nintendo did better and Europe was buying Sega consoles like candy, but the characters and show weren’t that popular outside the country anyway.
Ask someone in Europe in the 90′s who Sally Acorn was and unless they had access to a specific channel they wouldn’t have the first idea. Amy Rose, for sure, she was in the games.
I didn’t know who Sally was until Mega Collection Plus came out, and the UK STILL manages to get Sonic games in the top of the charts when they come out.
Aosth was shown more abroad with more appeal, the comics weren’t sold internationally, let alone in Japan.
To be all “But these characters cemented the Western fanbase” is mental.
The comics sold somewhere in the tens of thousands in their hey-day. At the same time, Sonic games were selling millions. The comic and show are so old that unless you were part of the 20,000 buying the comics recently or pirated them, you don’t even know who they are.
Fleetway was the only Sonic comic we got in the UK, and there’s more fans that have grown up with Sonic Adventure being the basis which had absolutely no inspiration from the Western products.
These characters are relics of America taking the mick out of a Japanese product in order to make more money and produce shows.
To say they’ve made a big impact on Sonic in the world is really stretching it.
F.A.Q
But you said you liked the FF’s!
I do, but in the same way I like AU’s. It was interesting, of it’s time and it said a lot about the culture it was made in. Like, comparable to Tails gets Trolled or Fleetway
B-but I really like the FF’s!
Good for you, don’t let me stop you. Again, I like a bunch of the stories.
Are you a Japanese purist?
Fleetway is cool and I liked the Boom show, and I liked Robotnik better than Eggman as a name.
I heard that some Japanese fans actually liked the FF’s though...
And more power to them. Again, Red Dwarf USA does a lot to shit on what made the UK version so good but I respect what it tried to do. Again, even I like the FF’s to an extent.
Why did you write this all out?
Seeing all this Rally for Sally has brought out all the insane people who shout at SOJ for being gits for not respecting the American canon despite the American canon being born from a disrespect to the Japanese creators.
What about IDW?
Ironically I actually liked Reboot more but also I was younger when I read them.
What do you think of Tangle and Whisper getting in?
I need to read more of IDW but they’re good enough. As for getting in the games, these designs were vetted and passed through SOJ first and the comic is overseen by them. On top of this, T+W don’t come from a place of SOA taking the mick.
But Sega has used these characters before and ESTABLISHED this as canon why are they changing it now-
I see this a lot, usually with certain people. Dobson’s a good example of why this is stupid. When the Japanese revert changes made to characters like Mario/Zelda/Samus by the West, they didn’t radically change their personalities, they just reset them to what Japan intended.
Japan never intended for the FF’s, the three heavily contrasting cartoons and Knuckles is Jesus Christ Superstar.
They just reverted him back to the sole guy on Angel Island.
Do you think Sally should get in to Sonic Dash?
No more than I think Tekno or Sonia does. They’re old, irrelevant, gone. If they do get brought in for a cameo I’d be happy enough, I like dumb nods to non-canon things.
However, there are crazy people out there and you give them an inch and they’ll take a mile. Best to leave it.

How do I submit a card for the contest?
If you’re on desktop, follow this link (X). If you’re on mobile, go to the main blog, then click the mail icon and submit through there.
When are new contests announced?
Each Sunday, a new contest will be posted to this blog and to the #announcements channel on the Inventor’s Fair Discord. Here’s a link to the Discord server! (X)
How do I make cards? Do they have to be submitted as pictures?
On desktop, we highly recommend downloading the program Magic Set Editor (X) and creating cards through there. Other card creation websites are available through searching, such as MTG Cardsmith and MTG.design, but they are not recommended. If you have no access to any image creation, you may submit through text, but all your text will be copied verbatim.
I don’t know how to design a card at all! What do I do?
Don’t panic! Making cards can often be a daunting task. Mark Rosewater, head of MTG R&D, wrote an article in 2003 called “Design 101″ (X) that helps identify basic design errors and what edges a card back towards a good center. Mant things have changed from that article’s printing, but many things stay the same. Additionally, the #workshop portion of the Discord is where you can ask questions about your designs for the week and get community support. The subreddit r/custommagic (X) is another place to ask for feedback.
To get yourself off the ground, though, is all up to you. Start with a base. What name? What cost? What do you want the card to do? Look into other cards from Magic’s rich history. This game is dense and full of support from the past. There’s no shame in being inspired by older cards, other custom cards, etc. As long as it’s from the heart.
Do my cards need art?
No. In fact, art can often detract from a card’s mechanical value. If you DO want to use art for your cards, there’s no issue with that — as long as the cards have proper artist credit. If your cards lack artist credit, you will be contacted by a moderator and asked to revise or resubmit. Failure to do so will result in your submission being deleted and a possible ban. There is no excuse for uncredited art.
How do you judge which cards are the winners?
That’s a great question! Based on the judge, there are various criteria. Does the card utilize proper design philosophy? Does it fit the contest? How does it push boundaries? Does it match the formats in which it wants to be played? In short, we have to keep open minds for judging, but we try our best to pick cards which most properly reflect both what Magic is and what Magic could be.
I don’t like the card I submitted. Can I submit another one?
Yes, up until the deadline, as much as you’d like. The most recent submission will take precedent.
When are winners announced? When’s the last opportunity to submit?
On Thursday, there will be a “Last Call” post reblogged to signify that there are approximately 24 hours until winners will be announced. After the winners are posted on Friday, no more submissions will be taken into consideration for commentary. Judge @abelzumi operates on GMT-4 (EST), and Judge @follower-of-liliana operates on GMT+2 (E.EST).

Qi Vampire Eradication: Qi Vampire (see the insta stories / site f.a.q’s for MY description of this term) management is a topic that often recurs in the Horoscopes – alerts when they are particularly active or when you might be more vulnerable to them than usual. But lets take a quick moment to revise the main methods of Qi Vampire eradication. Magical Method Number One: Salt. Toss it over your left shoulder. Sit in a circle of it and meditate upon your own strengths and accomplishments. Put a line of it across the front door. Bathe in it. There is a reason why it is one of the most magical substances of all. No ritual needed, just a silent prayer of “fuq off” to the Qi Vampire. Practical Method Number One: Firm boundaries and clearly delineated negatives. “No but…” is an invitation for a Qi Vampire to suck you dry. Rarely has “never complain, never explain” been so apt as when you are dealing with a Qi Vampire. Qi Vampire Precautions: keeping your own energy high and bright actually attracts them – sorry. So the more powerful and light of frequency you get, the more you will need to develop tools to deflect them and to also handle the negative barbs of jealousy and resentment. Sage smudging helps keep them at bay but if you do it before you leave the house, you will smell like an old pothead – no insult intended to users of the Dream Weed. So ideally, a quick spritz with a basil + citrus essential oil infused salt water spray and a smudge all over your etheric field when you arrive home. Listening to House Witchery Mp3 (free to Mega Mystic members) will help with all the home energy suggestions but if you’re out and about mixing it up with them, you need the protective spray and the smudge upon returning home. If they’re digital, block and delete. Two little known symptoms that a Qi Vampire is lurking around: You irrationally crave junk food (like the weirdest sort of low-vibe food) and you feel guilty for no reason, like you owe them something and you are not even sure why. Thoughts? What your Qi Vampire Eradication tips? https://www.instagram.com/p/BoJ9czlAKoB/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1il3uimjemkt0

Literature F.A.Q.
Q: What are the primary books that explain Satanism?
Anton Szandor LaVey founded the Church of Satan in 1966. With the release of his book The Satanic Bible in 1969, he began to define and codify Satanism to the world. His subsequent books present his thinking on many topics and should be read if you expect to understand Satanism. They are The Satanic Witch (originally titled The Compleat Witch), The Satanic Rituals, The Devil’s Notebook, and Satan Speaks. Blanche Barton’s biography The Secret Life of A Satanist and her history The Church of Satan (currently being revised and expanded) contain significant information. Peter H. Gilmore’s The Satanic Scriptures builds upon the foundation set by LaVey presenting philosophical essays as well as several rites and ceremonies important to Satanic theory and practice.
Q: Can I get a free copy of The Satanic Bible? Where can I download it? Is there a hardcover version?
No, we don’t proselytize so we don’t send out free books or pamphlets as do other religions. The publisher of this book, HarperCollins/Avon, has not released an eBook version, so if you do find an electronic file of this book it is not authorized and is violating the copyright. Years ago University Books released a hardcover version which was not well rendered. These copies appear on auction websites for a great deal of money. HarperCollins/Avon may release another hardcover edition.
Q: Can I get a copy of Blanche Barton’s book The Church of Satan?
The Church of Satan by Blanche Barton which is a detailed history of the organization, with photos, lists of Satanic films, music, and books is now being revised and expanded. You might find copies on auction websites for high amounts of money but we suggest that you avoid these and wait for the expanded edition. It is still being written so a publication date is not set.
Q: Can I get some free tracts or pamphlets to put out so as to counter the propaganda that I see from other religious organizations?
We do not produce tracts or pamphlets as we are against the practice of proselytizing. We expect people to come to Satanism of their own free will, so shoving literature at them is a rude imposition and contrary to Satanic behavior. We do not think that other religions should be allowed to do this, and we will not engage in such tactics nor endorse anyone who employs them.
Q: Isn’t The Necronomicon a part of Satanism?
No, since it really does not exist. It was simply a mythical book which horror author H.P. Lovecraft used as part of his stories. Read our Necronomicon FAQ for a detailed discussion of this topic.

[Continuing on with our Year In Review.]
Q: How do I ACTUALLY start writing.
Short answer: Establish writing as a habit instead of a single creative endeavor, learn to trust that the process is messy and involves lots of rewriting and revision instead of trying to get it right on the first shot, take whatever logistical steps you need to help you, and if all else fails, kick-start your writing with someone else's writing.

Hey, peeps. The Arceus package and comparative anatomy human / horse set is coming along. It is slow goings with revisions.
Once the package is done I would like to upload a F.A.Q. of sorts regarding anatomical study in art and some small mechanical aspects of human anatomy for the purpose of education / understanding for growing artists + some minor science (EG: what allows wrist rotation; if muscles can only contract, what is ‘push’; study vs. understanding in drawing bones / muscle; what are ‘landmarks’). Since moving forward I will not making any further posts along this vein whether here, on dA, or my personal site / blog, I’d like to hear from you guys if there are any points you’d like me to talk about along this subject. Asks will be temporarily enabled for folks to use.
Please bear in mind that I won’t be answering questions regarding design (EX: how would I approach designing a dragon), that’s a whole other bucket that is entirely subjective, and all I’m aiming to do here is impart some answers to common questions and pass on some things I have learned during my studies that I feel would help any artists struggling with the puzzle that is the human machine.
Thank you for your attention!
Askbox is here!

Plushie Manufacturing
Since we’re on the subject of getting plush manufactured, here’s a handy F.A.Q. of sorts to help get you started!
So, you have an idea for a plushie. Or perhaps you make an adorable character that everyone wants and you can’t keep up with demand! Maybe it’s time to get your adorable character factory made into a ton of plushies! How do you make that happen..?
1. Choosing a company/factory:
There are several options to choose from here. Two companies come to mind that artists have worked with when deciding who to go with to create your plushie.
Shinedown Productions (http://www.shinedownproductions.com/) Shinedown is often recommended by artists who have worked with Tonya Tart and have had great experiences. You can also ask her for a packet that includes pricing, including a special price tier for a 100 piece test run. The price of the prototype sample includes unlimited revisions which many artists find very helpful in making their plush perfect! The minimum quantity that Shinedown requires for your order is 500 pieces.
Gann Memorials (http://www.gannmemorials.com/Welcome-to-Gann-Memorials/) Gann boasts many years in service and big-name clients. However, artists who have worked with Chris Gann say that the experience was less than stellar. Chris can be very aggressive and unprofessional. His samples are lower-quality and he won’t easily refund you if you aren’t satisfied. Gann has their own U.S.A. factory if you don’t want to have your plush made overseas. There doesn’t seem to be a minimum order quantity required.
**GANN REVIEWS** (Please read if considering Gann)
http://quietnova.tumblr.com/post/157374408593/dragons
There’s also the option to avoid the middle-man and work directly with a factory which could be cheaper overall. This method is not recommended if it’s your first foray into mass-producing plush as there are things you’ll need to take care of yourself that may be too challenging such as getting your plush shipped to your home country. A factory might also treat you like little fish in a big pond and take care of their larger clients before you, making you wait forever.
2. Getting Your Prototype Sample:
To make your sample, the factory will need clear images of your character. You can make a reference sheet of your character showing the back, side and front view. Also add things like an aerial view and any extra notes (like beans in the feet etc.). It’s even better if you can make the plush and send it to the factory so they can work off your pattern and re-produce it how you want. The factory will send you a photo of your first sample! You will have a certain amount of revisions you can make (or in the case of Shinedown you’ll have unlimited revisions). It’s best to try and get the plush perfect with less revisions, so try to make all of the changes as clear as possible. Red-line over the image, write notes and possibly find images of plush similar to what you want. You’ll keep going back and forth with the factory until your sample is perfect.
3. Having the Plush Made!
Your sample will be sent to you so you can show prospective buyers. This is great for taking pre-orders, running a kickstarter, or pitching to stores. Once you’re ready to go into production, you might have to pay the full price or at least half up front which is the cost per piece. Then you will also need to pay for the shipping from the factory to your home. You can choose between air and sea, air is faster and more expensive. Sea is cheaper but slower. Also be aware that when your plush arrive to your home country you may have to pay customs fees so be prepared for the worst.
4. Checking the Final Plush
When you finally receive your plush in the mail, check over all the boxes and make sure everything is how it should be. It’s practically guaranteed that at least 10% of your plush will be defective somehow, or generally not as good as the others. If you get 500 plush made, there will probably be about 50 “odd-looking” ones, so be prepared for that as well.
5. Selling your Plushies!
Now you finally have your plush in hand, it’s time to sell sell sell! If you sold any pre-orders or did a kickstarter, make sure to send out those packages as soon as you can. You can sell your new product at conventions and shows, or list them online! And you can also breath a little better now that your plush are safely in your hands :D

Though sidetracked for a couple of days, we are back on track with our "admin fortnight," and have updated our ENTIRE F.A.Q. (for the blog, not the Facebook one) for 2021. This took nearly a week of behind-the-scenes revision and editing, so please enjoy.
Of course, this is a copy/paste of the tab at the top where our FAQ lives, so that I could make an article of it for everyone who gets posting notifications or emails.
Q- Question: Do You Really Have to Write Every Day to Be A Writer?
Q-Why do you/How can you hate NaNoWriMo?
Q-Why won't you answer my question for the Mailbox?
Q- Will you do freelance writing/editing for me?
Q-How can I get your kind of numbers on MY blog?
Q-Is talent important to a writer?
Q-How do you ACTUALLY start writing?
Q-I want to write a book and not be told that I needed to have been writing every day for the last ten years. Is there advice that ISN'T "Write every day." And more!

Hi everyone,
We had some "interesting times" in our country, and as is always the case when that happens I put aside the pre-planned schedule and did some impromptu political writing about that.
That took most of Thursday and Friday to write, and put us behind on our admin-fortnight.  Tomorrow you will get a full revision of the entire F.A.Q., which I have been working on for days (with obvious interruption), so the wait should be worth it as those questions tend to be popular and....um....you know.....frequent.
Thank you for your patience.
