I love that one of THE most consistent elements of Kirk's character is that he is a nerd who will read any book he can get his hands on.

From being called a "stack of books with legs" when teaching(?) at the Academy, to understanding obscure references to Milton (in Space Seed) to quoting ancient poetry from both Human and Orion novelists at the drop of a hat (The Ultimate Computer and City on the Edge of Forever, respectively), to being gifted antique books for his birthday (TWOK) - Jim Kirk is somebody with a deep love an appreciation for reading, and he reads everything he can get his hands on.
