Hiiiii I recently started rewatching Green Lantern The Animated Series and it's made me really want to read Green Lantern comics but I am paralyzed by choice. There's so many and I don't know where to start. Do you have / know of a good rec list or some recommended reading?

So I answered a similar question a while back, but that was more geared towards "what comics are best for getting to know the Green Lanterns of Earth?" For someone who really enjoyed GLTAS and is looking to get into the comics... honestly it depends on what you liked about the show.

Like if it's primarily the Emotional Spectrum stuff and all the different color Lanterns that you're interested in, Geoff Johns's run on Green Lantern (2005) is the comic run where all of that lore originated from. It's also what I'd recommend if you like GLTAS Hal Jordan, though I'd say that version of him is a more lighthearted than most modern comics let him be.

If you liked Kilowog, I recommend Green Lantern Corps Recharge and Green Lantern Corps (2006). The latter was written concurrently with the aforementioned Geoff Johns run, and both are essential for the major events like the Sinestro Corps War and Blackest Night storylines.

If you liked Razer and Aya... they basically didn't exist in the main continuity of comics until the current run by Jeremy Adams retconned them in. That one is still ongoing but it has yet to really do anything with Razer and has only mentioned Aya by name. So I wouldn't recommend it as a starting point, but I figured it was worth mentioning since they're major characters in GLTAS.

There's also the Green Lantern: The Animated Series comic that's a direct spinoff of the show but that does mean it's not part of the main continuity.

Cartoon Network would not renew LoSH 2006 for a second season unless they made Superman edgier like Batman as Batmans cartoons were very popular at the time.

LoSH 2006 gave season two Kell-El as response.

Clarks joke about Kell reminding him of a friend was because Kell is a Batman spawned Superman (because of company requests but not literally although hes very Bruce like) and I wish more than anything that the Clark clone made to be "a Superman edgy and dark like Batman" existed in canon again. I would take the crumb of a backround appearance at this point.

If I can be a sad GLTAS fan and grieve (but not give up) over Razer not being canon again until recently then I absolutely refuse to lose hope on Kell being canon again.

He could go the Razer route and be comic canon like come ooooon he'd be perfect for current superfam.

Its like on my top ten list of dc related wishes.

I need him to be canon again so bad. I cant keep rewatching season two of LoSH 2006.

I think it's really telling that while I've rewatched gltas on-and-off for the last several years, I've probably only seen the finale three or four times. if I think about the finale too much I start crying, god forbid if I actually watched it again

Me stating basic comprehension of level 1 subtext in GLTAS that everyone ever agrees on including myself as a young child when i watched the show: Razer had to watch someone he loves die twice so he becomes scared to love again and tells Aya he doesnt love her when hes actually just afraid to love again... but Aya thinks he really doesnt love her which turns her evil 😭😭😭

My father wholeheartedly in response with 0 evidence: Actually 😁 I think when Aya fake out dies she died for real and the evil Aya isnt the real Aya

there's actually been at least three other "continuations" of gltas, albeit they're all... well, not full revivals or anything. mostly cameos. Aya was in Justice League Action (more or less), Razer was in an episode of Young Justice and I think he's been canonized into the current GL comic run? I don't know much about it but I hear the events of the series don't exactly mesh with it... and Aya was just in the trailer for the third Crisis of Infinite Earths movie and Razer's VA is listed in the credits... so that's something?

so, no season 2. but you can always just rewatch the series for over a decade like the rest of us <55

IT WAS SOOO GOOD A,,,,

they made the themes so interesting and the writing was so good. i got super attached to the original characters and even more attached to the characters i already knew, like hal

there were some things i didn't like, sure (the voice acting at some points, the animation -- but i got used to them, so it's all good) but overall ??? super good series, definitely recommend it

i love the way they were building up to things that would happen later on from SOO early in the series. i love the little details, like aya's first memory of someone speaking to her, directly, being hal calling her beautiful or razer's mouth curling up and him immediatly scowling again. i loved the scene of hal putting carol's hand on his chest, allowing her to kill him. i absolutely loved iolande, her design was so fucking cool it's my fave thing EVERRR

it's also just like,,, the type of series i like. found family trope. people being silly. soul crushing angst. hope and rage coexisting. someone falling into the pits of despair only for their love for their family saving them. self sacrifice. tragic love story. etc etc etc

i just... love it. sm. sometimes when things get too serious, too solemn, they get boring --- like, for example, ahsoka's character in her series. sometimes i just need the filler episodes that allow me to see what the characters's dynamics are (that's also why i love sw rebels sm lol)
