So Dang Dark is my favorite out of all the songs from season 1! I love how they went all in for the music video with the glow in the dark face paint and costumes.

I remember you saying that you didn't really enjoy Buddy System season 1, and that you didn't have time to watch season 2. I felt the same way about season 1, but I ended up liking season 2 a lot more! It's not perfect, but I like the little universe they made, and I think it's less awkward when they don't just have to act like themselves exactly. There is also a lot of interesting moments that I think might catch your attention, but I also understand you may be too busy... This isn't supposed to be a demand for you to watch it and analyze it, I just wanted to tell you that I personally found it interesting!

While I'm here, I may as well point out some things of interest. First of all, there is a pretty clear allegory for Rhett's spiritual journey with the Kenneth Kenneth teachings. If we are to take this allegory literally, it would mean that Link wouldn't be as religious if it weren't for Rhett, which I believe to be 100% true. It also implies that Rhett may have never deconstructed if he had never met Link.

Another thing I found compelling was just the music video for their song "Pour Some Coffee On Me". It seems like another silly song, but the visuals are very colorful and, honestly, sensual at times. Even the title phrase itself, which is also the chorus, is vaguely suggestive. Rhett repeatedly asks (in song form) for Link to pour coffee on him. When Link starts to do this, Rhett stops him , clarifying that it is only an expression. Every time. This goes until the very end of the song, where Rhett tells Link to just put the coffee away, saying he is "no longer in the mood."

This all feels random, and I might have believed that, if it weren't for the small details outside of the music video. First of all, the coffee machine that kickstarts the whole thing is called the GrinderXXX. They chose to name it that. Additionally, after the song is over, Link says "Yeah, I don't like coffee." Rhett then asks if he likes the smell, to which Link says of course he does. Then, Rhett says, "Right, and smell is 80% of taste, and if you round up, you're gonna enjoy this coffee maker just as much as me. Probably more, 'cause smelling is easier than tasting." This makes me think that there is more significance to this than just coffee, because Link is the one who actually loves coffee in reality, and I don't know why they would change this for the show. I'm not quite sure what this could mean exactly (I'm not that good at analyzing things lol), but my best guess is that it has something to do with Link not enjoying the sex they were having as much as Rhett was in the beginning. There is also an interesting factor that is Link being very eager to "pour coffee" on Rhett, but Rhett always denying him before he could do it. I think this just supports the theory of Link initializing the whole thing.

I got a little carried away, but I hope you enjoyed my very juvenile analysis of this little song. Btw, I am a huge fan of your theories!

I loved reading your thoughts and I think you're onto something with the points you make. Just a clarification, I had watched both seasons of Buddy System when they were first released but I didn't like them much on a surface level and therefore didn't bother with them again for the longest time. Shortly before Wonderhole, I decided to give BS1 a second chance and then it's when I realised this too was a One Story project I had unfairly disdained. So then I intended to rewatch BS2 so that I could check it for One Story clues too but Wonderhole caught up with me and then I never did it. I will at some point, I assume. I still have the GME and the last Wonderhole episode to analyse first XD

Without rewatching it, I can tell you must be exactly right for the coffee song scene. There are two things that are clear parallels to it; a) the eggs song in the Chicken Crossing the Road video, in which Rhett tries to guide a hesitant Link through appreciating the various ways you can have your eggs but also b) a simple GMM episode about new ways to grind coffee that however seemed SO VERY SPECIFIC that I ended up making a proper One Story post about it. You're definitely right, and furthermore the coffee song must be conceptually associated to these two others! Great catch! It is one story after all...

Every one of these songs in this show are such bangers. They KILLED it with each and every song as well as the music video scenes. I'm very, very proud of how this fan art series turned out. And I even did two drawings that feature Link without his glasses (BFF and Kings of Bellevue Estates) just cause he looks so cute without his glasses!

Hi I wanted to add that in your S1 Buddy System One story analysis there was a character called Peder ( who was a lot about the metaphor for Rhett and Link being gay) and in some Balkan languages peder is actually a rude way to call a male gay person; f-slur if you will lol. I don't know if they meant it since it is so vulgar but it's such a coincidence I wanted to tell you

Warning this is going to be a little weird but me being Greek I had this concern that Peder sounded too close to -pedo- pederastes etc etc and I didn’t entirely reject the possibility because Peder is indeed a very creepy character and he is also supposed to be older than Rhett. And then I looked the Slavic slur you said and found out that it does come etymologically from the Greek pederastes. So I guess we landed on the same conclusion from different paths 👀👀👀

Then again Peder is the Scandinavian variant of Peter and let’s hope this is what they meant, however Link’s Peder character is creepy enough that perhaps they did mean it as a dark adult wordplay there….
