i hate the idea of luke being manipulated by ares/kronos SO MUCH. that boy has lost hope in humanity and the gods. his sword is a double-edged weapon that kills in both worlds. his father is deadbeat. his fate is pre-ordained and it drove his mom crazy. he fended for himself for years. he watched his best friend turned into a tree. HE WAS NOT TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BY KRONOS. resurrecting kronos, starting a war, rebuilding the world are LUKE'S IDEAS. thats why annabeth understood it. thats why people followed him. hes a powerful antagonist because his ideals and his story resonates NOT BECAUSE HE WAS ON THE SIDE OF THE TITAN.

taking away luke's agency in making these decisions takes away his motivations, his character, and ultimately cheapens the narrative of him being the "hero of the prophecy." if kronos told him to be evil all along, then him making the decision to kill himself is less compelling than one where he recognized how far he strayed and became a hero by making the right choice that saves the day.

i hate that the show implied kronos was the big bad guy appearing in dreams manipulating gods and demigods. hes just a device to further percy and luke's parallel narratives. the real villain of the series is luke. give my boy some credit.

there’s something strangely gutwrenching about the solstice having already passed. there have been minor changes in the “side adventures” of the trio.

they know they’re entering medusa’s house. they go to the arch for sanctuary against echidna and chimera. they go to waterland to help ares and convince hephaestus to stop being like his family. they go to the lotus hotel to get help from hermes.

in the books they’re getting tricked and distracted and losing all of that time on their quest was an accident. but they still made it in the end.

but in the show? they did everything right. they were aware of where they were at all times. but then they go and ask for help.

they try to ask for athena’s help and she lets monsters into her temple because they “embarrassed her.” they try to ask for hermes’ help but he doesn’t tell them until it’s too late that the lotus hotel messes with time.

they basically did everything right on their quest only for their biggest failures to occur because of the gods.

but poseidon gives him four pearls. four, instead of three. one for sally too. but we already know that she gets left behind.

they tried so hard only for the deadline to lapse.

The only reason percy wasn’t like luke was because luke existed.

percy saw what luke did to everyone around him and immediately knew that it was wrong. he agreed with him, but not with the way he was doing it. that’s the whole point. then, after luke had betrayed his friends, percy was done with him, because loyalty, right? it’s his thing. but was he? i reread the last olympian recently and every interaction with “luke” consisted of percy feeling conflicted about fighting his friend.

it only made sense for a character like luke to be in this story. what would percy be without him?

the problem with all these white authors like rick riordan who are revealing their stances on the israel-palestine apartheid is that they barely do anything but virtue signal when they claim “i’m on the side against war” “i’m anti-violence” “i abhor terrorism.” zero people are going to disagree with you. zero people believe what hamas did is justified. zero people think israel shouldn’t have a right to defend itself against terrorism. but that isn’t what israel is doing when they collectively punish all of palestine, who doesn’t even have an official army. when rick riordan says some wishy-washy bullshit about the violence suffered on both sides of the conflict, and words his whole dumbass blog post like it’s violence that is in any way equal, that literally helps no one. in fact, it’s so damn negligent of the 75 years of violence that palestine has suffered and been oppressed for. yes, there are innocent civilians in israel who are suffering, no one is disagreeing with you. that doesn’t erase the fact that israel is a disgusting state that has used state-sanctioned violence on a systemic scale since its conception, and the oppressed people have responded to that in violent retaliation (because OBVIOUSLY they would). israel is built on the subjugation of palestine, there is no equal suffering between the two.

I had hopes he’d do Ares justice in the PJO show, just like he did Medusa (though she could’ve been nicer towards the kids, i do get her, i’d love to kill Percy too) BUT FOR SOME REASON RICK MADE ARES EVEN WORSE! Wdym he hates his kids?? Brother didn’t win father of the year for that misinterpretation! percy cutting luke and then immediately apologizing because his fatal flaw is loyalty. then luke immediately turning around and cutting him on purpose. He was tired of asking percy to join him, he was ready to get rid of percy. the fact that percy was losing that fight was not because luke was better at fighting than him. it was because percy was incapable of hurting a friend like that, whether they are fighting him or not. the fact that he fought ares and luke in the same episode but luke was the one that percy was losing to is his fatal flaw being absolutely fatal.

but can we talk about luke’s progression during this scene? the hurt on his face up until percy rejects his plan and especially when he cuts him. the whole conversation looked like he didn’t want to hurt percy. when percy was slowly figuring it out, his eyes showed no aggression but rather sadness that he knows percy won’t accept his offer. when percy brought up the shoes, the line “I didn’t think you’d give them to grover to wear.” actually hurt me, the pain in his eyes because he cares about grover, one of his first friends.

(Side note: can someone PLEASE update me on those luke simping tiktok girlies cause i don’t have tiktok but after that last episode?? they’re probably sobbing-)
