Personal recap Skate Canada 2022 - Women SP

I think this SP was much better than that at Skate America, more clean skates! This is quite an open GP on who will win because many skater have good chances. It's still anyone's win here somehow...

I kept the starting order...

Yuhana Yokoi ❤️ is quite a special personality - full of energy and iconically funny (I had seen her react closeup to her fellow skaters a few years ago and she was just as much fun off ice than on ice) I really have no clue what makes her struggle on her jumps so much. It wasn't a particularly bad program for her, but still she used to lack in PCS not TES when she turned senior and now? I really want her to shine!

I missed Rika Kihira's skating so much. Like Brian Orser said after her program: "It's a start" She jumped 3-3 which is already a success on its own considering her injury and how she is still not fully recovered. I love the program and am glad to see it again. ❤️ Let's stick to the positive here! (I hope she can fully recover and return to her old arsenal of jumps without pain!🙏🙏🙏) (why were there 4 coaches listed? One of them still Mie Hamada? So is she still coached also by Hamada? 🤔)

Gabby Daleman - the most pleasant surprise of the day (night for me) So happy for her! Clean program and I have hardly ever seen her so joyous after a program! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Rinka Watanabe did really well! 👏👏👏 I think she lacks a bit of fire for that program (I mean I compare it to Yuna Kim's from 2007 what probably isn't really fair bc she slayed back then) Poor Rinka waited an eternity for her score 😭 Though I think she has some work to do on her components, the score seemed quite low. I mean Rika with two mistakes and easy jump layout got only 3 points less than her, the TES being only 4 points apart. (I haven't seen the protocol but this seems iffy)

Ava Marie Ziegler - clean program, lovely but generic the program but suits her. I liked her hairpiece to the costume.

Eliska Brezinova - quite the opposite of generic program for Eliska and a cartwheel that looked implemented into the program done effortlessly, that's how I like a cartwheel! Love the program for her. Mistakes on the jumps but still I think it's not too bad for her. Good job! 👏

Starr Andrews - love love love that costume on her ❤️🔥 Superb skate for her! 👏👏👏

Lindsay Van Zundert - I like how she skates and performs her programs, but this program is a bit boring. Good SP for her! Yes there was an UR on the combo but she only started doing 3-3 in competition a while ago. It's amazing how far she has come! 👏

Niina Petronkina - it's a program I like, but the custume I don't. I like the concept, the music and the idea of the arm movements. It's standing out. If she now can show a bit more expression that would turn into one of my fav SPs of the season. And finally a clean skate at her 3rd competition of the season. They have been really harsh on her in the scores. I dunno why her TES dropped that much, the jumps looked rotated. She deserved better. 😤

Madeline Schizas - Swan lake is overused but I love the music so I don't mind it that much. Expression on point for the program and cleanly executed too! 👏👏👏

Linsay Thorngren - the pop was very costly especially in a field were most delivered optical clean programs. She is a lovely skater but I kind of have the same problem with the program as with Isabeau Levito's last week, she can't sell such a difficult music yet. The movements fit but the expression doesn't. I mean in her case it's also the mistakes that made her performance fall flat, but I dunno if this is a good choice for such a young girl. She seemed really sad already during the program.

I would have considered Young You the heavy favorite but with a SP like that she couldn't lead like she could have. I like the attitude in her program and the step sequence was really 🔥 🔥 🔥 I would still consider her the one to beat because she has the highest difficulty with Rinka for the free skate, but she can't afford more mistakes like here.

I am really interested in the protocol, I don't understand how some scores were so low with the same jump layout as some who had higher scores. The close standings make it all the more exciting but it doesn't seem that equally fair to everyone tbh.

How hateful do you have to be to harass someone on anon over liking a character. Rika fans are NEVER in my inbox about me liking V and saying I think she got off scott free for the shit she’s done. I change my icon to Rika to show my appreciation for her despite all the discourse and a V fan comes to me with hate and wishing I get abused? Damn it’s either one or the other wth this fandom and even if I did hate Rika, it’s not okay to send those kinds of asks to someone just because they do. I don’t care if you like a character I hate, never in my life would I wish the worst upon someone I don’t know over that shit.

The kpop idol who reminds me of a Mystic Messenger character

Introduction

Before I start with this blog, let me give a short disclaimer:- this blog is based on the fans' perspective on a famous person.

The Mystic Messenger character I would be mentioning here is Kim Yoosung

Kim Yoosung is one of the protagonists of the widely known Korean otome game, Mystic Messenger and is available in the Casual Story along with Zen and Kang Jaehee. A twenty year old sophomore college student who is addicted to a game called LOLOL due to which he neglects his studies. Yoosung is also the cousin of Rika and has a hard time coping up with her "demise".

The kpop idol I would be mentioning here is Kim Wonpil

Kim Wonpil is the vocalist, keyboardist, synthesizer and songwriter of the South Korean rock band named Day6 which debuted in the year 2015 under JYP entertainment. He was born on 28 April 1994 in Incheon.

Similarities between them

In this section I would discuss why Yoosung reminded me of Wonpil when I was playing Mystic Messenger

Openly affectionate and caring

Wonpil is described as an extremely kind bandmate who cares a lot for the rest of the members, in one of the interviews Wonpil has talked about his desire to take care of his bandmates, Wonpil also has a habit of complimenting his bandmates which he had done on several occasions such as complimenting Sungjin's voice and his leadership.

In Mystic Messenger Yoosung is one of the most kind hearted out of all the other characters, in one of the DLCs he goes out of his way to help a lost puppy get back to it's owner, in that DLC, he had prepared bento boxes for MC and himself to show his affection towards her. He also showed his concern towards Jaehee's eating habits and Zen's nonchalant attitude towards his leg injury. After finding out about V's blindness, he tried to persuade him and later Jumin (to persuade V on his behalf) to get his eyes treated, despite having hated V for most of the part.

Both of them are also well known to be extremely supportive of their group members. In other routes we often find Yoosung being extremely supportive of the other members' relationship with MC which reminds me of how when Jaehyung releases his songs on Youtube, Wonpil often plays those songs in the background during his VLIVEs and talks about how much he loves those songs.

Emotionally sensitive

Among all the Day6 members, Wonpil happens to be the most emotionally sensitive one, due to which he often ends up crying easily. He ends up crying when the song they are performing happens to be an emotional one or when he sees other members tearing up also, he had once teared up when he saw a fan crying during a fan sign. It was also revealed that he often felt sad about Youngk (Day6's bassist) overworking himself.

Yoosung is well known to be the most emotional character of the game, and just like Wonpil he is quite prone to crying. His actions are mostly driven by his emotions. The main reason why V had kept information about Rika hidden from him because he is well aware of Yoosung's soft hearted nature and didn't want to see him break down after knowing the truth (since Yoosung had already went through a lot after Rika's "death").

Childlike and slightly naive

At times Wonpil can be quite naive which makes him look somewhat childlike, this is one of the reasons why the rest of his bandmates sometimes tease him. In an interview Sungjin had once narrated about an incident when they were on a plane. It was the first time Wonpil had been on a plane, the members had tricked him into believing that the plane's window can open and he could touch the the clouds and Wonpil had fallen into the trap. Wonpil is also known for forgetting the lyrics during performances which has become a running joke among the fans. They also often tease Wonpil for wearing his iconic bright pink sweater. Because of all this fans often call him "Wonpilie pabo" (pabo means stupid in Korean).

Being the youngest character in the game, Yoosung is quite naive and childlike. The above mentioned incident reminds me of that time when Seven had tricked Yoosung into believing that he is going to pass out after drinking coffee and then had encouraged him to drink a lot of chocolate milk. Just like Wonpil, Yoosung too had fallen into Seven's prank and is often teased around by Seven. The other RFA members also tease him for his addiction to LOLOL.

Are secretly intelligent

Despite initially appearing to be "naive and stupid" both Wonpil and Yoosung are actually quite intelligent in their own way, Wonpil has contributed to majority of the songs written along with the main songwriter Youngk. Besides playing the keyboard and the synthesizer, he can also play the guitar and the drums really well. And one needs to be quite intelligent and talented enough to play multiple instruments and write good songs.

Despite initially failing in his studies (due to grieving)Yoosung is actually quite good in academics and is said to have ranked very high during his school years. In his route, when MC shows him support and helps him to gain confidence Yoosung starts to do well in his studies like he used to. In the Good ending, it was partly due to his efforts and his quick decision to hold onto to Saeran that the party was a success, since he had managed to catch hold of Saeran it was possible for Seven to take control of the situation, lest Saeran wouldn't have allowed him to do so.

A ray of Sunshine

One of the most prominent aspect of both Wonpil and Yoosung is their warm, cheerful and friendly nature. They also share a common desire to make others happy and hate making others worry about them which makes them look like a ball of sunshine. Back in May, when Day6 had announced that they would go on a period of hiatus for the benefit of their own mental health, they had also released letters for the fans. Among all the letters, Wonpil's one stood out the most to me because how cheerful he sounded in that letter, despite the crisis that time since he didn't want the fans to worry about him.

Yoosung's personality is highly influenced by that of Rika's who too was a cheerful and a friendly person. Initially he appears very cheerful and happy to others because of which many players end up being too nice to him and eventually get into his route despite the fact that they were probably trying to get into another character's route. He later gradually opens up about his struggles and how hard it had been for him since Rika's death. He even acts cheerful towards MC when he was badly injured by Saeran because he didn't want her to worry about him.

Other characteristics

Other characteristics which I find similar between them is their voice, both of them possess a distinctively soft, high pitched voice and to me sometimes, their voices sound quite identical to each other. Another similarity between them is that both of them are the shortest in their respective places, Wonpil is the shortest members in Day6. Yoosung on the other hand is the shortest male character in the game (because the female characters are shorter than him). Yoosung's desparate attempts to act "manly" takes me back to the very early years of Day6 when Wonpil was trying to act like a serious, manly guy which continued until 2017 when he had probably decided to let go of it. Both Wonpil and Yoosung are naturally optimistic. Wonpil is well known among the fans for his optimism. Due to his depression, Yoosung had become really hopeless but as you progress in his route towards his good ending, he slowly starts to turn into his old, optimistic self which he used to be when Rika was "alive". Finally, for some odd reason, all the Day6 songs which reminds me of Yoosung, happens to be co written by Wonpil himself. Zombie, Letting Go, I Smile, I'll Try are such songs.

Miscellaneous

Because I got big Wonpil vibes from Yoosung while playing the game I had decided to draw him in Wonpil's iconic ugly pink sweater

Conclusion

I initially used to think that Yoosung is more like their drummer Yoon Dowoon because both of them are gamers, love animals, are often compared to puppies (Dowoon's denimalz mascot is a puppy while Wonpil's mascot is a bunny) and finally both Dowoon and Yoosung are the youngest members of their respective groups (Wonpil being the second youngest).

but after playing the game, I realized that he is more like Wonpil, its because Yoosung is very expressive and bubbly like Wonpil (while being occasionally shy at times) while Dowoon is more reserved and rarely cries (unlike Yoosung and Wonpil). I also found out that Wonpil likes gaming as well. Besides, before Denimalz had existed I can recall several occasions where Wonpil too was compared to puppies.
