Classical Music Suites Bracket

Hi everyone! After the success that the symphony bracket has been so far I thought I'd keep the fun going by hosting the suites bracket that was initially discussed on that blog. The format will remain quite similar, but I'll clarify this when the tournament starts which will likely be sometime in December. There is only the one mod, so please be patient with me (oh also she/they pronouns please).

I'm accepting submissions, so here's some guidelines for that:

Please make submissions to the ask box.

You can include propaganda if you would like to but you don't have to.

If there is a specific recording that you would like me to use please specify it in your submission.

For the purposes of this bracket suite is fairly broad, though it will be restricted to suites with at least 2 movements. Please don't submit works that are other forms (eg. symphony, concerto, opera etc). If the mod determines that a submission is not clearly a suite then a poll will be created to determine general consensus.

The number of suites to make it into the bracket is yet to be determined, but it will be either 16, 32, or 64, depending on the number of submissions.

As submissions come in, I will add them to the bottom of this post every so often.

Also as an extra little novelty, feel free to guess the suite, movement, and instrument of the sheet music in the header image :)

i went back to the cd store. again. and i have discovered something wonderful.

the clearance section.

they had so much music on clearance and every thing was $1.99. no matter how many discs it contained. there were sets of 3 or 4 discs that would have costed $20-30 new and they were $1.99

Shostakovich Symphonies #1 and 7 played by Leonard Bernstein and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. this recording has some of the best brass playing i've ever heard.

Shostakovich Piano Trio #2, Tchaikovsky Piano Trio (+ an encore i don't remember it) recorded at a live concert by Martha Argerich, Gidon Kremer, and Mischa Maisky

Shostakovich Symphony #14 and Seven Romances on Poems of Alexander Blok recorded by Mstislav Rostropovich, Galina Vishnevskaya, Mark Reshetkin, David Oistrakh, Mieczyslaw Weinberg, and the Chamber Orchestra of Moscow.

Aaron Copland Appalachian Spring, Tender Land Suite, Billy the Kid Suite played by Eugene Ormandy, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra

English and American concert band works by some people recorded by Frederick Fennell and the Eastman Wind Ensemble. was very happy to get some wind band music on cd

Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade and Borodin Polovstian Dances played by Thomas Beecham and the (i think) Royal Philharmonic

(also the guy at the cash register forgot to ring up one of the clearance things and he sold it all to me for $18 instead of $20 like he should have so that was nice)

Vanessa Pham and Jonathan Rogers skating to Scheherazade for their free dance at the 2023 Junior US Nationals, 2022 Junior Grand Prix Courchevel and 2022 Junior Lake Placid Ice Dance International and 2022 Junior Dallas Classic. I think Pham has two slightly different dresses.
