Ringgit To Continue Facing Volatility Amid Global Trade Concerns
KUALA LUMPUR, April 12, 2025 — The Malaysian ringgit weakened slightly to 4.4320 per US dollar this week, after hitting a two-month low of 4.500, reflecting cautious market sentiment. Analysts attribute the dip to escalating US-China trade tensions, with China’s 125% tariffs on US goods raising fears of economic slowdown impacting Malaysia’s trade-reliant economy. Volatility Despite this, some…

i would buy games on gog if they actually have regional pricing because that's like the only thing that steam has got over them
like the ringgit is not very powerful and a lot of things priced in us dollars online end up being priced out of my budget

I become a Mamo merch enthusiast since one of my IG follower introduced me to Buyee, sort of hahaha😅. But it doesn't mean that I will spend too much on it. Because sometimes there is a product that is between pricey or cheap. Hence I only use my student metric card which is a bank card and the amount inside my acc wasn't that very big. I'm still waiting for my regular bank card to be made since the older one cannot be used again.
So I'll be careful when choosing the merch and before I made a purchase I had change the currency from dollars into Malaysian Ringgit to make it easier to read the price. When I made a purchase I will change it into dollars back since I pay via PayPal. The remaining balance inside my student bank acc will use for my e-hailing since this is the only transport when I go to campus for class (I'm still scared to drive on the road🥲)
Sorry for the long blabbering, I just need to pour out what's on my mind today.

彡✎ Unpacking Politics, One Meme at a Time
(Do memes (as it is popular in Malaysian politics) provide a useful way of understanding politics?)
Politics: the only arena where you'll find more plot twists, backstabbing, and unexpected surprises than a season finale of your favorite TV show.

We get it – politics can sometimes feel like a maze of jargon and complex issues. However, with the rise of meme culture and its integration into politics, could memes be used to further understand politics and its complexity? (probably).
Behind the Laughs
Before answering the main question, let me hit y'all with some nerd facts about how memes came about. A meme is a cultural informational unit that spreads by imitation. The term, which comes from the Greek word mimema (meaning "imitated"), was coined by a British biologist named Richard Dawkins in 1976 from his work titled "The Selfish Gene" (Rogers 2023). Memes come in a variety of format that ranges from videos to still images.
From LOL to Legislation
In today's day and age of the Internet, memes can be found on all sorts of social media platforms that we use on a daily basis. Whether it be viral videos or yet another funny cat or dog picture like the doge meme. Nowadays, there seems to be an ongoing trend of memes being used in politics. I'm not particularly sure how it is being used, but most of the memes I see about politics are just to poke fun at a specific person or political party.
Now for the million-dollar (or in this case ringgit) question, how did memes suddenly become a thing in the political world? The earliest instance of memes and politics I could find is from the year 2000 during a presidential debate in the United States about then-candidate George W. Bush where he mispronounced the word "internet" as "internets." Four years later, he made the same mistake during a debate with John Kerry when he said, "I hear here’s rumors on the, uh, internets that we’re going to have a draft". After the whole conundrum, the response from netizens was eventful. Thus, making Bush one of the first few political internet memes (Klein 2019).

It seems that after George W. Bush became a trending meme in politics in the United States, I guess you could say he sort of paved the way for birthing memes in politics as we know it today. As far as I know, there are a lot of memes about our politics here in Malaysia that I've come across and it gets pretty entertaining considering how our politics here are.
Meme-laysia
As someone that currently lives in Malaysia, I would say that there are a handful of memes that circulates throughout social media when it is nearing elections or when someone that is part of a political party (or one of our ministers) screws up yet again. The political scene here is quite eventful, to say the least, but that does not mean we cannot laugh about it.
One of the most popular political memes in Malaysia is during 2021 when our then Prime Minister of Malaysia, Muhyiddin Yassin suddenly resigned from his position after only being the Prime Minister for one-and-a-half years. As good of a plot twist as this is, Malaysians took to social media to express their confusion and reaction to this news (Lee 2021).
Here is one of the example:
Upon resigning as Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin will assume the role of interim Prime Minister until a new leader, who commands the majority, is identified (Lee 2021).
Humor and Power
Phew. We're finally getting to the most anticipated part. Do memes provide a useful way of understanding politics? My answer to that is, definitely. Based on research conducted by Kasirye (2019), it is found that political memes do have an effect on providing information about politics.
The study also reveals that political parties employ memes to promote, oppose, and criticize various political issues among the populace. Since the majority of messages are created by political parties and actors to further their objectives, memes are spread through social media to reach the targeted political groups.
Due to memes having a visual nature and their ability to grab people's attention, memes are a good foundation to start understanding politics. Thus, memes are a great method for political engagement that appeals to people's cognitive and extrasensory faculties in order to interact with them and shape their opinions. Humor and sarcasm, on the other hand, are used as persuasive strategies in this awareness-raising technique (Kasirye 2019, p. 51).
Final Thoughts and Prayers
Overall, I do think that memes play a part in politics in terms of understanding what is going on or providing useful information. Memes are funny and people like memes due to the fact that they can be on different social media platforms, whether it be in video or picture format.

Oh, God!!!! You're from Malaysia!!??? OMG, This is my first time seeing an if-author from my home country's and I can't be anymore exciting!!! Say, is there anyway to support you though? I can't use Ko-fi given it needs US dollars😅😅
AYOOO - FELLOW MALAYSIANN!!! 🎊🎊🎊
I've been trying to find a SEA-friendly donation platform tbh. 😢 So far, there's Gank and Patreon - the issue with Patreon is they don't take MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) but they take SGD (Singapore Dollar).
Then I tried out Gank but...Honestly, I've been thinking of making it the platform where I sell collection bundles - but for now, I'm still on debate about it T_T
If you have any recommendations, I'd be happy to hear it. OTL I'm not too well-versed in this sort of thing.
NICE TO SEE ANOTHER MALAYSIAN IN THIS COMMUNITY THO 👀

U.S. Palm Oil Prices 2025, Size, Trend, Graph, Chart and Forecast
Throughout Q4 2024, the U.S. palm oil market exhibited mixed trends, influenced by global factors and domestic challenges. Early in the quarter, strong international demand and rising Malaysian palm oil prices provided upward momentum. However, the appreciation of the U.S. dollar against the Malaysian ringgit increased import costs, pressuring profitability for U.S. traders. Additionally, tightening global supply due to production declines in Southeast Asia contributed to escalating prices.

The weakening of crude oil futures raised concerns, as it reduced palm oil’s attractiveness as a biodiesel feedstock. Despite these headwinds, steady demand in competing edible oil markets, such as soybean oil, helped sustain overall consumption, particularly in the food and biodiesel sectors. The U.S. palm oil market remained resilient, supported by robust global vegetable oil demand, though higher import costs could dampen consumption in the near term.
In Q4 2024, Malaysia's palm oil market followed an upward trajectory, driven by tight supply and strong global demand. In early October, prices increased by 1%, fueled by a 13.6% surge in exports compared to September. The depreciation of the Malaysian ringgit enhanced competitiveness, although weak crude oil futures and geopolitical tensions posed challenges for the biodiesel sector.
By November, reduced production forecasts and continued strong demand pushed prices higher, with the benchmark price maintaining an upward trend. Anticipation of Indonesia raising its export taxes in December further bolstered optimism for Malaysian palm oil, as buyers sought alternative sources. While overall exports saw a slight decline, strong demand from key markets like Bangladesh helped balance regional losses.
By December, global supply constraints and diminishing production forecasts across Southeast Asia sustained high palm oil prices. Although elevated prices curbed consumption, persistent demand kept the market buoyant, signaling a positive near-term outlook. Moving forward, the market will remain highly responsive to global supply-demand shifts, geopolitical developments, and policy changes.
Germany’s palm oil market in Q4 2024 mirrored global trends, with rising prices driven by supply constraints and geopolitical factors. Reduced production in key exporting nations like Malaysia and Indonesia led to higher global prices, impacting imports. The appreciation of the euro against the U.S. dollar helped maintain palm oil’s competitiveness in European markets.
However, fluctuating crude oil prices and uncertainties in biodiesel demand introduced market volatility. Additionally, Germany’s push for more sustainable palm oil sourcing introduced further complexities, as stricter regulations and certification requirements increased import costs. Despite these challenges, strong demand from the food and cosmetics industries supported palm oil consumption. The market remains sensitive to Southeast Asian production forecasts and potential policy shifts in Indonesia, which could further influence Germany’s palm oil trade in the coming months.

Firdaus Razak.
I met him from Tinder during 2023 when i was studying software engineering in Uitm Jasin. After we matched on Tinder he straight away asking my number and i gave him anyway ( i was so naive back then ). After texting for few days, i asked him , can i call him ? because i was so depressed. When he called me, i just being honest how hard it was the programming test and i felt like i couldn’t do it anymore and he listened carefully of my rants. He said please don’t ever give up, just kept putting effort, don’t ever think about the results because as long as i was putting effort, the good outcome would come. Then he asked my qr and i was kinda confused but i gave him anyway. He gave me 1k myr and asked me to release my stress and have fun. I was shocked at first but he insisted to. I booked the resort in Melaka, and ate some good food and bought the chocolate.
The next morning he videocalled me and how i was doing and i just being honest i kinda felt lonely. The first time i saw his face , yeah he was old. I have no impression to him. But he was caring. I asked him i felt like i wanna meet him in KL and he gave me another 300myr before the plan was cancelled because he need to go to Kuantan for standby. I have no idea what was his profession at that time but he seemed so busy.
We meet finally on September 2023, and he booked Aloft Hotel for 3 days. When i met him for the first time , he was very simple and had a unique aura. Introverted and very busy person. He kissed me on my cheeks and said “ finally jumpa pun “ and i just giggled 🤭. We didn’t do any sexual but instead he hugged and cuddled and i was sleeping on his chest. He has such deep kinda swollen mark all over his chest he said that was due to acid chemical incident when he was working. He asked , “ You selesa ke dengan i “ and i just nodded.
We went to good sushi restaurant and i was touched by his persona. He mixed the soy sauce and wasabi for me and when i struggled to use chopsticks he straight away asked waiter for fork and spoon. He said he just landed from the airport from the work trip in Singapore, and yes his wallet was full in Ringgit and Singapore Dollar.
We went to shop the clothes because he looking for shirts , pants and boxer and he said just take whatever I wanted , don’t look at the price but i just ended up buying one long green sace shirt. He asked me to shop more but I had no idea what should i buy , he said could be anything. I really wanted to buy books and we went to mph and i bought around 5 books ; self -help, financial niche area. I was extremely happy and we went to watson to buy stuff more and i bought minyak angin for him too. When we heading to the hotel he tapau me lots of bread and drinks for the other 3 days staying at the hotel. He said “ nanti i bagi duit belanja untuk you , kalau i takde you boleh shopping “ and i just be in silence.
When we heading to the hotel he said he paid for the breakfast too and don’t be lazy to go downstairs for the breakfast. The hotel has the bar and i naively asked is the bar serve alcohol and he just laughed. Yeah i was so innocent back then. We spent very quality time for few hours before he need to go back to offshore after that. He even had 2 phone for works. He gave me 2k something myr and hugged and kissed me on my forehead before leaving.
I spent most of my time alone at the hotel enjoying my stay reading book and watching movies. I was curious about him and i found his LinkedIn and he is working with Petronas maritime as a maintenance engineer. He served 2 companies at the same time Petronas and MISC and no wonder he is extremely rich.
He against me to be naughty instead he gave me lots of advices that i have huge potential in successful career. One of the advice that really lingering in my mind was “ Even though we did the wrong the decision, as long as we kept putting hard work and persistence, we still could be successful and the wrong decision won’t feel wrong after all “.
He was real definition of person action speaks louder than words because he didn’t talk much and his actions was loud.
When i started exposing Mel on my social media, he asked me who was that guy in details. I just being honest to him. He was actually always checking up on me on my social media and i knew he care about me a lot.
When i got the offer from Apple he congratulated me and he was actually came to Apple Store during my working hours.
We reconnected again back in the first Ramadhan when he wished me Ramadhan Al Mubarak.
He is my role model. To be able having financial stability like him is one of my bucket list.
Firdaus, i know you are busy but i hope we can meet again.

[ad_1] By Anjali Sharma NEW YORK – Indian Rupee on Monday has been tracking losses in Asian currencies after US President Donald Trump said he will introduce more tariffs. The rupee slipped 49 paise to open at an all-time low of 87.92 against the US dollar as against its Friday’s close of 87.43 per USD. The dollar index measures the US currency against six other units, was higher at 108.3. The interbank foreign exchange, the rupee touched an all-time intraday low of 87.95 against the American currency during the session. Rupee pared the initial losses and finally settled on a flat note at 87.50 (provisional), unchanged over its previous close. A Bloomberg report said that the rupee’s fall is expected to get worse as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may continue to build up its foreign exchange reserves. “With the RBI maintaining its FX stance, we see a risk of rupee underperformance, as the central bank may continue to favor building a substantial FX reserves buffer,” the report quoted Nomura as stated. It noted that not only the Indian Rupee, but all the Asian currencies slipped after the US President Donald Trump said he will impose new 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports, along with reciprocal tariffs on all countries this week to match the rates levied by each country. The Chinese Yuan dropped past 7.31 to the US dollar, while the Korean won, the Indonesian rupiah and the Malaysian ringgit were down 0.4% to 0.7%. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra had said the market forces decide the value of rupee with respect to the U.S. dollar and the central bank is not worried about day-to-day movement of the currency value. Malhotra said the central bank focuses on the value of the rupee in the medium to long term. Indian rupee is trading with a negative bias as foreign banks went on a dollar-buying spree and importers scrambled to secure dollars, as they feared further depreciation amidst global uncertainty, media reports added. The farfetched tax campaign for reducing the corporate tax could be deemed as another unrealistic bluffing policy to omit the ruinous conditions of infrastructure for which nearly 50% of the tainted bridges and roads are waiting for urgent repairs according to the assessment of the civil engineering institution of America. The refinance leverage of new corporate tax rate raised by Democrats to renovate the collapsed infrastructure seems inevitable for the heavily indebted new administration in the upcoming election. The projected tax revenue of 5 Trillion from the new corporate tax rate should help settle the massive funding for the pending renovation of infrastructure across the country. Like it or not, the financial insolvency of the Whitehouse remains the insurmountable constraint of ruining the new administration without treasury's surplus. Raising full import duty for the import commodities valued at USD3 Trillion may be good for boosting the demand for US Dollar and industrial protection but it does not good for the GDP valued at USD 24 Trillion waiting for export to other countries where retaliatory tariff may be imposed on the US commodities under the looming Dedollarisation. Instead of relying on the borrowing money from the public, the exaltation of corporate tax rate is the prime revenue available for the new administration of America amid its monetary implosion this year. This is evinced at the rebounding value of Malaysian Ringgit where the listed Government Linked Investment Companies are requested to purchase government bonds and inflow the foreign investments of Malaysia to boost the monetary value of Ringgit after joining BRICS for Dedollarisation at this time.

REAL THOUGH LIKE theres 3 japanese people in into1 AND THATS NOT COUNTING THE OTHER 2 THAT GOT RIGGED OUT,,, cfans dont seem to hold the ww2 atrocities against individual japanese people, more of the government and certain places (ie that shrine in japan that commemorates their ww2 soldiers. a chinese actor took a selfie there once and instantly got blacklisted)

SACRIFICES MUST BE MADE i'm pretty sure all of the currencies are weaker than the main western powers like the british pound and american dollar so sea keeps getting a bunch of weird tourists who think they can exploit the people there. but i think theyre fighting back by putting a tourist tax of double price LOL. kind of unrelated but i keep getting malay singapore beef on my insta fyp. it's so funny and i'm not even a citizen of either country. sometimes you just need to bring up the ringgit to inflict ultimate damage

🌟 Singapore Dollar Hits New 2024 High Amid Tighter Monetary Policy Expectations 💰
The Singapore dollar reached a new peak for 2024 against the US dollar, driven by expectations that the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) will maintain a tighter monetary policy than the US Federal Reserve. This outlook has strengthened confidence in the Asian currency. 📈
The Singapore dollar began its ascent in August, positioning itself as the third-best performing currency in Asia for 2024, trailing only the Malaysian ringgit and the Hong Kong dollar. On August 14, it climbed 0.1 per cent from its previous close to 1.3163 per US dollar, its highest level since December 28, reflecting a 3.6 per cent gain from its April 30 low of 1.3655. By 8pm local time, the currency was trading at 1.3152. 💵
MAS is expected to maintain its policy stance until 2025, while the US Federal Reserve may start cutting interest rates as early as September, reducing the US dollar's appeal. This has led to a boost in Asian currencies, with a regional currency index reaching its highest point since March. 📊
According to Dr Alvin Tan of the Royal Bank of Canada, the Singapore dollar will likely remain supported by MAS's current policy, barring a US recession. However, the currency's strong performance in 2022 and 2023 might be harder to sustain in 2024, especially if Fed rate cuts encourage risk-taking, as the Singapore dollar typically underperforms when the US dollar weakens. Analysts predict the currency may weaken to around 1.35 per US dollar by year-end. 📉
