Pretty please may I have some music recs for heavy drums and a choir? *puppy eyes you*

Okay so I don't have a really long list, it's actually a pretty rare kind of music that I have in mind when I think of "heavy drums and choir". Usually I just want something that makes me feel Feral, and that generally includes wailing vocals if not a choir. As Joey Batey puts it: this here, it's not singing, it's screaming in tune. But I'll give you a few things that I put on when I need something to give me goosebumps.

This is my French playlist. It’s one that I am very proud of. It took me several months of researching, listening, finding, playing records to gather over 400 songs. But, France. What a country! This playlist could go as far as 500 songs.

Today’s mix:

Shut The F*** Up and Dance by Richard “Humpty” Vission 2000 House / Hard House

So, pretty much everything I wrote about the Richard "Humpty" Vission mix I posted yesterday applies to this one, too. A bulky and absurd megamix up front and something that's way, way, way more on my wavelength for the final two-thirds. Vission cycles through half of the mix's tracks in its first 20 minutes, going hard, heavy, and ravey (too ravey, in my opinion. Not much of a hard house guy), and then dives into this utterly insane jungle remix of N.W.A.'s "Dopeman," which also comes with a vocal sample of dead prez's "Hip Hop". Just a really incredible, totally unexpected tune. And then after that track, it's pretty much just a barrage of expertly mixed and mostly irresistible funk, disco, and soul-type house tracks. The run of 21 songs between Paul Johnson's "Get Get Down" and H.O.G. Presents Grooveliness' "Got To Dance Disco (Navigator Mix)" makes for one of the greatest sections of a house mix I've ever come across, period. Like, I'm sitting here, writing this, eyes wide open, and just totally flummoxed at what the fuck I just heard during that part. Good. God. Almighty. Richard "Humpty" Vission is an absolute wildman.

As we all know, the casting on Roswell, New Mexico is absolute gold. I have a theory™ that the creative forces behind the show followed the Boy Band Method of Casting in which all the male leads fill certain important superficial, archetypal roles. This is a rare feat & we should all be eternally grateful. There’s someone for everyone, just like there was in *NSYNC or BSB. (woooo late 90s/early 2000s)

In my opinion, this method demands 1 of each category: Handsome, Hot, Sexy, Beautiful & Cute. This is not an exact science, as there are common types in boy bands like the older brother or the quiet one that I have not included here. This is because I would argue that my categories represent the Platonic ideal of this, and also exactly what I would like to see on a CW show. (Yes, don’t worry, I know I’m going crazy without a new episode).

For brief reference: Handsome=the soulful one, classically goodlooking, the heartthrob, often cries about love whilst a single tear runs down his perfect cheek (think a JC or Kevin). Hot=he’s fit and he probably does know it. Likely wears basketball shorts as a regular person wears actual pants (a Justin or Nick). Sexy=the bad boy, magnetic, and hot, as Maria aptly put it, “in a sex in a truck, smells like a river, never introduce him to your mama kind of way” (see an AJ). Beautiful=the ethereal one who is an aesthetic dream, he’s also the one who may wonder what he’s doing in a boy band at all (consider a Brian or Lance). Cute=he’s got the boyish charm & your Mom will also approve (think a Joey or QT).

Anyway, I digress, this is obviously condensed from a brief, but intense period of study in the late 1990s & early 2000s, and I shall apply the method to Roswell, New Mexico NOW.

"As 2018 draws to a close, I’m continuing a favorite tradition of mine and sharing my year-end lists. It gives me a moment to pause and reflect on the year through the books, movies, and music that I found most thought-provoking, inspiring, or just plain loved. It also gives me a chance to highlight talented authors, artists, and storytellers – some who are household names and others who you may not have heard of before. Joey Stylez 'Finally' Features Lancelot Knight In Latest Single Joey Stylez is a well-known name not just among Indigenous communities but also among the general public all over Canada and beyond. Joey Stylez was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. He has worked with some of the most well-known figures in the business, and his music was used in the film Wind River, which examines the problem of missing and murdered Indigenous women. His work has also been used in other notable films. This 16-track album by Horsethieves & Bootleggers will win your heart because it tackles head-on the many problems that Native North Americans face.
