Would it be too much trouble to ask for a pluck x reader? Where Pluck has a little bit of an anxious moment and ends up hiding behind his friend (crush *cough cough*) and they just gotta help calm the bird boy down cause he's freaking out a lil bit? So vauge I know but I'm tired homie and the thinker ain't rolling too fast rn I just really love your writing style is all. (Also headcannon that Plucks feathers poof up when suprised lol)

At first...he thought he was fine. The quest had gone well, and everyone made it out with little to no injuries. It was only when he got back into town that he started to panic. 

Walking into the bar, you didn’t notice Pluck’s breathing began to quicken. But you felt a tug at the back of your shirt, and turned to see Pluck there, holding onto your shirt like it was a lifeline. 

The first thing you noticed about his appearance was that his feathers had bulked up, a sure sign that he was scared or anxious. Rather it be from the fight, or another reason you knew you had to act quickly so it wouldn’t turn into a full-blown panic attack.

Without second thought, you grabbed his hand and went to your room. You would go to his, but the babies were there sleeping. Besides...you’re more worried about your feathered friend than his adopted offspring. They would be fine while you calmed down their dad. 

“I-I’m sorry...I’m sorry.” The tone of his voice made your heart ache. 

“You have no reason to be sorry...was it the fight? Or...something else?” You figured knowing the reason may help resolve the symptoms that could quickly turn into a panic attack. 

“I don’t know...I’m really sorry.” You patted his head, pushing his feathers down in the process. 

“It’s okay. You don’t have to know.” You continued to pat his head with your free hand, the other secured tightly in his own hand. Chances are he won’t be letting go anytime soon, so you’ll have to make do with one hand for now. 

You used your free hand to brush his feathers back, rubbing his shoulders and arms before returning to rubbing his head in soothing circles. He seemed to respond well to your physical touch, something you noticed early on in your friendship. 

“Can you do some deep breaths with me? It doesn’t have to be perfect, just do your best.” You gave him a reassuring smile and began to do deep breathing exercises. 

Initially he had short, shallow breaths, but after some time of doing the exercises he began following your instructions and successfully managed to breathe slower and heavier. 

After a while of doing deep breaths together Pluck broke the silence, “You don’t have to stay with me...I can get by on my own. I don’t want to burden you.” 

You gave him a smile, “I know you don’t need my help. But I want to help in any way I can. I won’t be able to rest easily knowing you’re anxious.” You placed your other hand on his, now holding both of his hands. “You’re strong, but you don’t have to be. You can be weak with me. I won’t judge you.” 

He let out a small noise and you saw his feathers bulk up again, before he rushed forward, putting his beak under your chin. 

“Why do you gotta be so nice to me...it’s unfair.” You didn’t have a clue what he meant, but you smiled down at him though he couldn’t see with his eyes buried under your chin. 

“I’m only showing you the kindness you deserve...besides, you’re always nice to me. Why wouldn’t I be nice to you?” You chuckled and pulled your hands out of his to pull him into a proper hug. 

He sighed and leaned into your embrace, “you’re nicer to me than anyone ever has been to me before. I want you to know I appreciate it.” He pulled back, and you let him. “I...never mind.” 

You tilted your head, “it’s okay...you can tell me. But if you don’t want to, I respect that too.” 

He looked conflicted, “I...maybe soon. I can’t tell you right now. The words just aren’t coming out.” You smiled and placed a hand on his chest, feeling his heartbeat, and he did the same. 

It was a comforting action you both did when trying to get your feelings across but didn’t know how to put it into words. 

“I’ll be ready to listen when you think you can tell me.” He made an affirmative noise and sighed, all his anxieties seeming to melt away. 

“Thank you...for helping me and just being you.” That made you laugh. 

“I’ll always be me. So I’m glad ‘me’ is someone who can comfort and be close to you.” You meant every word. As long as you could help him, nothing else mattered. Even if it meant just staying friends. 

“I have to get the little ones...will you be downstairs for dinner?” He placed his feathered hand over yours, sitting on his chest. 

“Of course! I’ll see you soon.” You hesitated before placing a soft kiss on the top of his head. 

He made an alarmed noise, like he wasn’t expecting it and you were pretty sure he was blushing. You couldn’t tell because of the feathers...but he very well could be blushing. 

He leaned up and pressed his beak to your forehead to return the kiss. 

“Right! Um...bye!” He turned quickly and ran out of the room. 

What a strange bird. But maybe soon he could be your strange bird. He probably didn’t feel the same...right? Or maybe he did like you…

You groaned and flopped onto your bed. Feelings were difficult. He did kiss you...in his own way. Maybe there was a chance. You won’t deny your feelings for the Kenku...you’d been harboring feelings for him for months...maybe soon you could confess. What’s the worst that could happen? He could say no...but then you’d resume being friends. 

It’s a shame friends weren't enough...hopefully he returns those feelings. Only time would tell. Maybe you could ask the party how to ask Pluck out...maybe not Anya. 

You weren’t sure Anya would be able to give solid relationship advice...but maybe Kovacs or Werblund would know? They’ve known him longer...yeah...you’ll try asking them. What could go wrong?

Do you write fluff/angst/crack/general/smut, combo, etc? Why? i don’t really much write fluff since i don’t have any idea how to write a good fluff!! :( this has been an issue every time i write some au’s. so im always ending up writing and focusing more on angst. it’s the genre i know best. well, crack… it’s hard to make the readers laugh when you can’t even make their tooth ache from sweetness with your fluffy writings. :( smut… i don’t write smut explicitly any more. i’m more on the suggestive side rn. 

Do you write OCs, X Readers, Ships...etc  i write OC’s especially when im writing a series!! to diversify my writing. but i usually am on the x reader side. ships? not that much. 

Why did you decide to write for Tumblr? uhm, back in 2017, i was searching for some website where i could publish my works. ive always been a tumblr-girl since i am that wanna-be-aesthetic kinda person :D then i had found that i could write and publish on tumblr so yeah that’s pretty much why i am on this app rn

What inspires you to write?  ooh, music has been a great help for sure!! whenever i don’t feel like writing something, i always listen to music and the idea would flow like a river. classic poems helps, too. :)

What genres/AUs do you enjoy writing the most?  supernatural!au’s, fantasy!au, medieval!au. i feel like it’s easier to write something out of pure fantasy. i have a hard time writing modern!au’s since i lack the humor and the knowledge for modern slangs. 

What do you hope your readers take away from your work?  ooh, i always always always am careful with the way that i craft all my works. i try to feel what my characters feel to give them a certain validation. i put my shoes on the scenarios i have in mind even though i haven’t yet experienced everything ive written. and i do love writing strong female characters, whether it’s oc’s or female readers. that’s my main priority whenever i write. and i want them to know that girls could do just as much everything boys could. women are powerful. 

What do you do when you hit a rough spot creatively?  i read a lot to get back on my foot. i also try to re-read my past works so i’d be inspired to better my writing on my current draft.

What is your favorite work and why? Your most successful?  my favorite work is the one i’m still writing rn, which is entitled 505. it’s a hendery fic in which he is a bandit and the female reader is a sacristan. it’s my fave since i relate myself so much to the female reader. :) my most successful one is the childhood best friends!au taeyong x female reader. it’s about to reach 600+ notes i guess? and im so grateful of all the feedbacks i got from it. 

Who is your favorite person to write about?  it’s jaehyun and hendery :) 

Do you think there’s a difference between writing fanfiction vs. completely original prose?  character wise, perhaps. since you already have a face value in fanfiction, but in an original prose, you would have to craft everything from 0. 

What do you think makes a good story?  a good story is something that doesn’t romanticize the bad things going on in the world. a good story is something that is emphatic to the hardships of others. a good story is something that gives comfort to those who are in the dark. a good story is something that boosts the hearts of the readers and makes them feel things!! 

What is your writing process like?  first, i think of a plot! (this happens oftentimes when im washing the dishes) when i have the plot, i think of the ending. when i have the ending, it’s time for me to device a fitting title. and the plot would develop from then on. 

Would you ever repurpose a fic into a completely original story?  i don’t think so… this is scary. since some people think of fanfics as delusional works from delusional authors. it’s kinda sad. 

What tropes do you love, and what tropes can’t you stand?  i love love love enemies-to-lovers trope!! one that i couldn’t stand and do my best to not read is probably… hmm… no, i love all tropes!! i just love e-t-l most!

How much would you say audience feedback/engagement means to you?  it means a ton. since it could really boosts me up. heavy sigh. it’s the best thing when you write something— the feedbacks. even though it’s a simple reblog with the ‘#ATKSHSKSHSKAHAKSGAHGEGSJA’ or ‘#myfave’. i would smile like an idiot whenever i read it.

Dream job (whether you have a job or not)? i want to be a successful writer someday!

Do you think fanfic writers get unfairly judged?  yes!! ugh, there’s this recent issue wherein stan twt called fanfic writers as freaks. and it broke my heart. i mean, most fanfic writers get inspirations from their idols and that shouldn’t be a bad thing. we aren’t delusionals as one might think. we are simply doing our craft. 

Do you think art can be a medium for change?  yes!! our country’s hero ‘jose rizal’ had somehow stirred the nationality of the people back in the old days because of his writings. i do believe that art changes things!! it has the ability to pierce the heart of the people.  

Do you ever feel there are times when you’re writing for others, rather than yourself?  yes. i feel this whenever im writing smut. i mean, let’s be real, your works would do better once you’ve included some steamy smut scenes in it. when i was writing my first fanfic after three years, i didn’t think that i’d ever include smut. but the fear of not getting feedbacks crept up in me, so i forced myself to write some sexy scenes. i know that’s like… weird. but i’m trying not to dwell on feedbacks any longer. and i also have decided not to write explicit smut anymore. honestly, i feel better now that i don’t force myself to do something that i think would please others rather than me.

Do you ever feel like people have misunderstood you or your writing at times?  uhm, as far as i can remember, nope— still hasn’t felt that way. :)

Do your offline friends/loved ones know you write for Tumblr?  yes!! my best friends irl knows about it. my sister knows. my parents are also aware of my passion in writing, and they do know that i write. but where and what, that remains obscured from them :D 

What is one thing you wish you could tell your followers?  that it’s okay to be vulnerable. it’s okay to make mistakes. it’s okay to fail sometimes. it’s okay to feel things. because like a good book, there is always a character development and you have the pen to write your own version of happy endings. 

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers who might be too scared to put themselves out there?  i’ve been there: the scared and conscious part. but one thing i would say is, you have to dare yourself!! you won’t know how your writing would have impacted so many lives and touch the hearts of people if you won’t grab your pen or your gadget and start your draft. 

Are there any times when you regret joining Tumblr?  nope, there aren’t. the community has been lovely to me ever since i started writing. :,)

Hi, so sorry it took me forever to respond to you! Funnily enough, I’m visiting my own parents rn, and it’s very hard to find time for myself without them interrupting.

I definitely understand your pain. So often, brown parents go absolutely ballistic and cite “concern” as the reason they’re holding you hostage. I’m so sorry you’re in this situation, having to deal with not only with the obstacles that come with an LDR but also your parents being unreasonable.

Followers, if you have any advice or comfort you could offer, please feel free to share, whether via replying to this post, sending an ask, reblogging with advice, etc! And anon, if you’d like to talk about this more with me, you’re welcome to IM me; all messages and info will be kept private.

Having been in similar situations, I would offer you the following advice. Placing this under a readmore cut to avoid clogging dashboards:

First and most importantly, work to become independent from your parents. If you’re 18, you should be to close your account without needing your parents to sign off on it. Meaning, go to the bank, open a new account where you’re the sole owner, transfer all your money from your joint account to the new one, then close the old one. And then, don’t give your parents the new bank account info at any cost. They might threaten you, or tell you you’re irresponsible, or shout at you, or say all kinds of hurtful things. It will hurt a lot, but you need to say “I won’t give you access to my account.” Don’t try to explain or justify; just say that and nothing more. If the money in your account is technically theirs and you aren’t comfortable cutting off their access to it, open a new account anyway, and start directing as much of your own money into it as you can. Can you pick up a job or side hustle, like tutoring or freelance writing/editing/drawing? If you’re in college/university, can you get a work/study job without telling your parents? 

It is possible to replace your passport and any other documents your parents have stolen. If you’re in the United States, this website offers instructions on how to replace all your vital documents, including birth certificate, passport, SSN card, etc. (If you’re in a different country, let me know, and I’ll do my best to see if there are similar resources for you). It will take some digging to figure out all places you need to call or make appointments with. And it will unfortunately cost money, but you may be able to call your local passport facility or vital records office to ask if they have fee waivers or payment plans you could qualify for. I know it’s scary for your parents to hold your documents hostage, but unless you’re traveling internationally in the next month, this isn’t as big of a threat as they want it to be.

Unfortunately, you may have to accept that your parents just won’t support you meeting or dating your bf. Maybe they think you’re too young, or he doesn’t meet their standards, or they don’t trust the internet; regardless of the reason, it is deep-rooted, and they’re unlikely to change their minds no matter how much you reason or plead with them. This is really hard pill to swallow! It is so incredibly painful to realize that your parents’ love is conditional, and your happiness often isn’t a good enough reason for them to challenge their own beliefs. But you can’t control their reactions, nor can you force them to change their minds. Living your best life means determining what is and isn’t under your control, focusing on changing what you can, and not blaming yourself for the things you can’t change.

If you want to meet up with your bf, it will have to be on your own dime and your own time. This may mean you can’t meet up until you’re able to extricate yourself from your parents’ toxicity. You have to put your own safety and well-being first. This also means you need to have a difficult conversation with your bf: Are the two of you willing to wait until you’re able to meet him without your parents punishing you? Is he okay with you lying to your parents about him if you need to in order to avoid punishment? If he has fewer restrictions than you, is he okay with doing more of the legwork for meeting up (whether financially or by accommodating your restrictions) right now?

Though this is probably the furthest thing from what you want to hear, patience is your best friend right now. I promise there will come a time when you won’t have to worry about how your parents will react and how their reactions will limit your own happiness. I promise eventually you’ll be able to meet your bf whenever you want (global pandemics permitting). But that time is not right now, and you have still have some hurdles in your way. So be patient, and work toward clearing those hurdles. I hope you’re able to meet up with your bf sooner rather than later, and that you find a way to distance yourself from your parents’ toxicity. You deserve to seek happiness without first having to seek their approval and permission.

oh isaak is absolutely not a slytherin. he regret his actions before, during, and after they happened. i’d say he isn’t a gryffindor, mostly because of his own insistence that he was a coward for what happened, but he still could be if he went through a redemption arc? i’d definitely settle with hufflepuff. after jack’s death, he did his best to atone for what he did, and he used his awareness during the loops to monitor these unstable invaders and defend june with his life.

paloma, my angel grandma, can definitely be ravenclaw. honestly, i don’t see any traits that strongly push her in another direction? her whole character is pursuing and dispensing prophecy.

This is what’s most disruptive about the page: it lets burgeoning designers to crowdsource their designs rather than coming up with designs in isolation, investing the money, then plopping them on the web in hopes of finding an audience for the work.The process by which the clothing is made is different, but the resulting products have a lot in common with brands we’re familiar with. In the world of streetwear, the difference between what we consider hot and not oftentimes has a lot to do with the name behind it, rather than the strict aesthetic appeal of whatever’s on the front. The reasons we lose our collective shit over a white tee with a red box on it isn’t because of its unprecedented design quality; it’s because of everything that red box signifies. Anomaly recently featured paintings that were criticized for looking too similar to those used by popular streetwear brand Heron Preston. The factor that makes one cool and another unoriginal can often come down to the name. There’s nothing inherently uncool about the brands on the streetwear subreddit except maybe that they’re just not cool yet.Sorting out all the signals is why the streetwear startup can be so helpful. “I needed a place to gauge the response a larger audience would have to the collection and I wanted to know if it would stand out the way I wanted it to,” Slade explains. “What better way to test that than post in a community of people who look at or create streetwear designs all day, and see what they think?” You can feel out a customer base before needing, you know, a customer base.And because these are people who also have brands, it makes them the perfect target market. “If the majority of them like it, it will mostly likely at least sell a few pieces,” says Mallari. Streetwear Startup offers people a testing ground for items and designs before they ever put real monetary investment into anything. And you can keep taking the community’s advice until you’ve smoothed out the edges enough that someone—probably a number of someones on Streetwear Startup, who have now all helped you make a garment closer to their tastes—might actually buy your product. Fashion isn’t a science, but in Streetwear Startup you can play a game of addition and subtraction based on feedback until you’ve got something at least one person will wear.And you can keep adding and subtracting until someone like Jarvis Landry wears your clothes on ESPN. Matt Nicholas, a 30-years-old supplement store manager in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada and the designer behind Rude Vogue, says that the subreddit vaulted him in front of a larger audience, but the Landry placement is on a different level. “It was a pretty amazing feeling, just growing up always watching ESPN daily and then to see your brand you've worked so hard for making a cameo on SportsCenter,” Nicholas says. Ask D'Mine: How Marriage and Cinnamon Affect Diabetes

Hello, Curious PWD Friends. Doesn't it just seem like everything affects your diabetes? Yup — and today we're addressing two of them, marital relationships and the much-hyped idea that cinnamon can control your blood sugars.

Phyllis from Vermont, type 2, asks: How can stress in a marriage affect blood sugars?

Wil@Ask D'Mine answers: As it turns out, in two distinct and very different ways. Now, for background, for many years I had assumed that any kind of stress messes up blood sugars for all of us. That's because I was a believer in the Caveman Effect (not to be confused with a Caveman Low). The Caveman Effect (or Cavewoman Effect) goes like this: in the old days if you were just wandering around the Pleistocene minding your own businesses, and a saber tooth tiger jumped out of the reeds, you'd scream, throw your spear into the air, and run for your frickin' life. To do that, your adrenal glands helpfully filled your blood stream with a sugary hormone called adrenaline to give you an extra little boost of speed.

If you are a caveperson running for your life this is no problem. You'll run off the sugar.

Now fast-forward 40,000 years. Instead of being in a real cave, you're in your husband's man-cave. And instead of a saber tooth tiger, your adrenaline comes from too many bills, too little money, and too little healthy conversation. You can't run away from that kind of stress. Oh, and you're not a healthy cavewoman either. You're a person with diabetes.

So this unusable adrenaline was thought to pile up and increase blood sugar across the board. The fancy word for it is "hormonal mediation," but I still prefer Caveman Effect.

However, a recent conversation with our best brain-and-diabetes guy, Dr. William Polonsky, set me straight. Dr. P tells me that "physical stress, like undergoing surgery, reliably raises blood sugars. And, for some people, emotional or mental stress seems to raise blood sugars, but not for everyone. For other people, mental stress seems to have no effect, or even lowers blood sugars!"

Wow. Who knew? Fighting with your spouse is good medication for some people with diabetes! I feel a book coming on...

Dr. P goes on to explain the conundrum of stress and diabetes: "stress does seem to reliably worsen long-term blood glucose control for most people, but not due to hormonal mediation. Instead, it is just behavior. 'I am stressed, so I don't give my diabetes the close attention it deserves,' and presto — A1C's rise. Also, it may only be certain kinds of stress and the actual timing of when the stress occurs that determines whether and how it affects blood sugars."

So the Caveman Effect still comes into play with some people some of the time, but not all people all of the time. And it looks like we need a new label for the long-term effects of stress on diabetes, which I'm going to label the Eff-it Effect. (Sorry, Dr. P).

So we now know that marriage stress can affect diabetes in two ways. The Caveman Effect might (or might not) raise your blood sugar at the time of stress, like during an argument; and the Eff-it Effect will almost certainly raise your blood sugar over time because you've taken your eye off the ball.

I guess knowing the two likely causes is a help. But neither are easily fixed. If your blood sugars are affected by the Eff-it Effect ya' just gotta slap yourself across the face and get focused on the basics of diabetes control again. If you're one of those people who suffers from the Caveman Effect, then you need to develop some new tricks to reduce your immediate stress when it hits during those 'charged' moments.

Maybe aroma therapy candles...? Maybe a massage? Or maybe you need to pick up your spear and work off some energy at the gym. Hey, it worked for our ancestors.

Brenda from Colorado, type 2, asks: Have you done any research on cinnamon? They have it in so many diabetic products and herbals nowadays. Does it really work?

Wil@Ask D'Mine answers: Cinnamon alternately generates a lot of excitement and a lot of disappointment among PWDs. When I first read that cinnamon might be the cure for diabetes, the first thing I did was run down to the nearest Cinnabon to get some of this new medicine.

That didn't work out so well for me.

One of the problems with the whole cinnamon thing is that the original study was done on six political prisoners in a maximum security lockup in Shi Lanka. OK, OK, OK. I exaggerate. But the truth is almost as bad. The first published cinnamon study back in 2003 was done in Pakistan on 60 type 2s, only half of which took the cinnamon, and the study ran just 40 days and 40 nights. No kidding. And the researchers demonstrated a respectable glucose drop. Or did they? More on that in a minute. But this was the face that launched a thousand ships. Or at least a thousand over-the-counter diabetes "supplements" with cinnamon in them.

Over the next several years following this first study, a number of other small (sometimes smaller!) studies looked at cinnamon with varying results — mainly unable to duplicate the original results.

Now, I need to interject my thoughts on clinical trials here. Well, more correctly, on the SIZE of clinical trials. I get suspicious when I read results from a small pool of participants, as very small trials are subject to errors because one or two people who have unusual reactions can throw the average results way off. I don't think it's a good idea to make sweeping statements about everyone who has diabetes if you only look at 20 of us. (Read the DiabetesMine Research Primer here for more insights on that.)

But back to cinnamon. As I said, most of the trails were very small, a fact that the mainstream media ignored or glossed over. Some were badly designed. Oh, right, and some were on rats.

Finally, in 2008, William Baker and his colleagues killed cinnamon once and for all in a meta-analysis (the same statistical torpedo that sunk Avandia) of all the assorted cinnamon trials, finding that cinnamon had only one scientifically demonstrable effect: it makes cinnamon rolls taste better. It doesn't improve A1C, it doesn't improve fasting blood glucose, and it doesn't improve lipids in either type 1s or type 2s—all claims of previous "research."

Now science aside, all you have to do is look at the comments sections of any blog posts on the cinnamon issue and you'll find lots of folks who would bet the farm on cinnamon, and who sing its praises. So what to make of that?

Well some might be "plants" from the folks making all those cinnamon supplements, but there's a whole class of people who don't want to take their medicine, but rather want to do things "naturally." (I find this silly, as most medicines are natural in the first place. Metformin is just French Lilac, aspirin is willow bark, and statins are red rice yeast.) But I think sometimes these folks have a problem with perspective. It can be hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. Sometimes when you start something new to help your diabetes, you do other things at the same time that you aren't even aware of. Maybe, in addition to taking cinnamon they're now more physically active. Or maybe they're eating a little better. Or maybe they lost some weight. Or maybe they're just kidding themselves.

When it comes to blood sugar numbers, I find that even my smartest, most focused patients are horrible historians. Just yesterday, one of my type 1s was telling me how he was "always" having lows around 3am, over the last few weeks. Alarmed, I started looking at his pump's basal rates. But then I looked at his CGM data. In his case, "always" turned out to be twice. In two weeks. Still, those two times made a big impression. In a similar fashion, sometimes the data we want to see makes a bigger impression than it deserves.

I know when I download my CGM it paints a worse picture on my control than I expect. Huh? I could'a sworn I was "flat-lining" my blood sugar...

A number of my type 2 patients have tried cinnamon. Some felt it didn't help. Some thought it helped a little. Some felt it made a huge difference in their diabetes control. But I couldn't see any change at all when I studied their meter downloads.

One woman I work with thought that cinnamon was doing such a great job she stopped all her prescription meds in favor of cinnamon.

Her A1C tripled.

Of course, for the most part, cinnamon is harmless. So if you want to try it, go for it. Just don't stop your other meds. Study your meter data carefully. Try to be honest with yourself on other changes in your life.

Oh...

And remember that I said the cinnamon was harmless for the most part? One last warning: while cinnamon can't be scientifically shown to lower blood sugar, it has been proven to be effective as a mild blood thinner. So if you are on Coumadin (a.k.a. Warfarin) or a similar medication for heart problems, be alert for easy bruising, etc.

The cinnamon can super-size the effects of your blood thinner.

So if you want to play with cinnamon, that's OK with me. Just play it smart. Play it safe. Keep your mind clear and focused on the facts, and remember you mileage may vary from 30 Pakistani PWDs who tried cinnamon back in 2003.
