We’re just a couple of days out from our big year end belt test... for students this means nerves and excitement are likely starting to set in! That’s why mental preparation over the coming days will be so important! You’ve put in the time to prepare physically, honing the skills you’ll perform on test day, which means now is the time to taper down physically and turn inward and ensure you are mentally on task as well. Here are a few tips to consider in the days leading up to test day: - hydrate and fuel your body well; this means a balanced diet of nutrient dense foods that will provide your body with the energy it needs on test day! - do very light and modified training leading up to testing; this slower more methodical and technical practice. Move through the movements of your basic kicks and poomse at 1/2-3/4 speed and power, aiming to focus on the technical components of each movement - visualization: sit with eyes closed and in your mind go through the various components of your curriculum, envisioning what it will look and feel like on testing day - stretch! Note to self, Taekwondo is not the type of sport where one can take 2 weeks off at the end of the year (galavanting through #fortlauderdale, #keywest and #havana and then just come back and test for a 2nd degree black belt pre test with no problems. Ouch. I passed my second pre test, but my right hip, knee and ankle are killing me. It’s not fair that my kids make it look so easy. They are truly an inspiration to me.
